A campaign spreading across France has garnered support with ,000 people putting their signature on a petition to have Obama run for the French presidency.
Organizers of the unofficial Obama17 campaign have spread posters across Paris with the slogan "Oui on peut" which translates in English to mean "Yes we can ".
The organizers of the campaign revealed that they are aiming to get a million signatures by May 15th. Though aware that it will be impossible for a foreign national to contest for the seat of the president, the organizers revealed that the current election campaign in France is a failure and that the current situation of their country called for radical choices. Suspected vandals on Thursday attacked the regional head office of telecommunication giant, MTN in Abuja stealing phones, cash and also destroying vehicle and office equipment.

The vandals invaded the premises at 4 Madeira Street, Maitama armed with sticks and rods in retaliation for the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa.

An MTN worker said the staff ran to safety when the vandals invaded the premises. Police men in the area were said to have mobilized and stopped the attack shortly afterwards.
Also, Nigerian students have threatened to take action against MTN and DSTV if the attacks of her people are allowed to continue as usual.

A four-month-old baby boy has been recovered from the Oshodi under bridge shortly after he was dumped by his mother, Timileyin Adesina.

The lady was arrested by operatives of the Lagos State Task Force on Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit, who recovered the baby from a sack under the bridge.

It was learnt that the men were on a raid to dislodge commercial buses causing obstruction on the highways in the area when one of them saw Timileyin dumping her baby.

The official was said to have walked down to the spot and found the baby naked in the bag while the mother had fled.

“The streetlights around the bridge exposed her. The officer spotted from distance that someone dropped a bag and started running. He quickly moved towards the bag and when he saw that it was a baby that was packaged inside it, he chased the woman and arrested her.” a source said.

On the 27th of January, a trailer for a Nollywood movie 'Daudu' was released online and it attracted a lot of interest. Why? Because of the role played by popular versatile actor, Odunlade Adekola. In the clip, he's seen playing the role of a young, unmarried gay man whose parents are not in any way pleased with his sexuality.

Now, while some Nigerians laughed at the role, a few others criticized the supposed promotion of homosexuality.

Asked how he felt playing the role of a feminine gay man, Odunlade said:

"I am not the one that produced the movie but it was directed by me. As a matter of fact, I played the lead role.. As a director, If you get any script, you just have to study/digest the script, understand what the demands are and know where to contribute. That is what I did."

Asked about his response to those criticizing his role after watching just the trailer, Odunlade said:

"I haven't really seen the criticisms from people and you know a movie is make believe. It is also done to correct a lot of impressions and make people understand more about certain topics. I haven't seen anyone criticize me or any of my jobs (roles). Critics should take time to watch the movie, study it very well and understand what we are trying to say in the movie. We are preaching that what happened in the movie that made the lead actor (Odunlade Adekola) to be a gay man is not good. That's the real message."

"I love Nigerians and all who have supported the industry. I am not against anybody or trying to tackle or fight anyone," Odunlade said.

Citizens Action to Take Back Nigeria (CATBAN), a civil society organisation, has warned Abiola Ajimobi, governor of Oyo state, to reopen Ladoke Akintola University (LAUTECH) or they will "occupy and shut down the state".

A video clip of an altercation between Ajimobi and LAUTECH students has since gone viral. The students were protesting the closure of the university for the past eight months.

"In a statement on Thursday, Ibrahim Garba Wala, convener of the group, said the governor should also withdraw his “insulting remarks” and apologise to the students.

He said that Ajimobi displayed “rascality by saying all sorts of provocative things, including calling on the students to start a riot” instead of behaving in a “dignified manner as the leader and constituted authority.”

"Therefore, we are giving Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo state seven days to withdraw his insulting remarks and apologise to LAUTECH students for treating them with such disdain. We are also demanding that LAUTECH be reopened in the next seven days, failure to which we would be forced to #OCCUPY and shut down Oyo state," the statement read.

The recession is biting harder into Nigeria in 2017 as the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the price of kerosene has increased by 60 per cent in Kaduna, from N1,100 a gallon in December, 2016 to N1,600 in January 2017.

Mrs Joyful Adeyemi, one of the dealers told NAN, that she bought kerosene in December, 2016 at N47,000 a drum and sells a gallon between N1,100 and N1,200.

“Only for the price to increase to N72, 000 a drum as at yesterday. This change forced me to increase the price to N1,600 a gallon; otherwise, I will be running at a loss.
