For the first one - unless you pick a keeper then yes. Defenders are outfield players so they can technically score or get an assist or MOTM.
You make a good point re point deduction (for a yellow or red card) but you do realise that would be extra work for me.

But yeah I may incorporate that hoping it doesn't take too much of my time.
