How did some of the congregation listen to this pastor for so many years? |
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – After listening to his sermons for 24 years, parishioners of the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church probably thought they knew the Rev. Juan D. McFarland. But from the very pulpit where he preached about God's love and service to the community, he delivered some stunning revelations: He had had affairs with women in the parish — and neglected to tell them he had AIDS. Perhaps because McFarland was so well-regarded, the church's deacons initially had sympathy. "It was surprise, shock, but I think the leadership team did not react wanting to get him out. We wanted to get him help," said James Long, vice chairman of the board of trustees. McFarland refused — and in a later sermon dropped another bombshell: He had been abusing drugs. That was enough. The deacons voted 80-1 to fire him on Oct. 5, but McFarland refused to leave, going so far as to change the building's locks and the numbers of the church's bank account before returning to the pulpit on Oct. 12, Long said. On Tuesday, the first business day following his last appearance, the deacons announced that they had filed a lawsuit to force McFarland out.The church's website portrays the pastor as a man of passion, prayer and purpose "whose life is centered in Jesus Christ." The suit describes McFarland as a man practicing "debauchery, sinfulness, hedonism, sexual misconduct, dishonesty, thievery and rejection of the Ten Commandments." It asks a judge to block him from serving as minister and give them control of the church complex, its bank accounts and a Mercedes Benz furnished for the pastor's use."We are just trying to minister to the flock and get the church back in order," Long said. McFarland remained unfazed by the news. "I will command the pulpit from this day forward," he said in a brief telephone interview Tuesday. He declined further comment, saying he and his attorney needed more time to review the suit. He would not disclose his attorney's name. In a related development, Wells Fargo Bank filed court papers Tuesday saying that because McFarland sought to change control of the church's bank account, it can't determine who has the rightful claim to $56,211 in the account. It sent the court a check for the full amount and asked to be relieved of responsibility. Nathan Williams, chairman of the board of deacons, said the church normally has about 170 members show up each Sunday.Only about 50 heard McFarland's most recent sermon. Williams and other church leaders said they went elsewhere to avoid any confrontation. In the sermon, McFarland recounted stories from the books of Matthew and Luke about Jesus healing people. "Sometimes the worst times in our lives is when we have a midnight situation — and we are in a midnight situation," he said. "When you pray, you've got to forgive. You can't go down on your knees hating somebody, or wishing something bad will happen to somebody." An attorney for the church leaders said the sermons need to end. "He needs to get the message that he needs to be gone," attorney Julian McPhillips said. McFarland, 47, has not been charged with any wrongdoing. Knowingly spreading a sexually transmitted disease is a misdemeanor in Alabama punishable by up to a year in jail. Court records show McFarland had two marriages end in divorce after wives filed suit to end the unions. Neither complaint mentioned allegations of adultery or other wrongdoing. Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church was founded in 1919. McFarland became pastor in 1990, and the church built a new complex near Alabama State University in 1993. The question that still begs answering to is, why do most of these 'prosperity preachers' get declared bankrupt in their ministry? Why aren't they practicing what they preach to their members? |
WinsomeX:The Bishop Clarence McClendon again apparently divorced from his 2nd marriage to Priscilla Delgado in 2002, due to financial scandal. Yet he still continues to preach on TBN. "In a heated scene on “Preachers of LA” with Gospel recording artist and former pastor Deitrick Haddon" - even Deitrick Haddon is a divorcee according to the article below: Deitrick Haddon, who is working hard to rebuild his brand, is slowly fighting his way back after a cloud of controversy surrounding his divorce from fellow gospel singer, and former wife of 15 years, Damita Haddon, overshadowed his longtime successful career. Haddon, who accused “In the Middle” singer, Isaac Carree, of sleeping with his ex and causing the irreparable rift that led to the once strong couple’s permanent split, is now engaged to marry the mother of his out-of-wedlock daughter, Angel Destin Monet. http://www.gospelredefined.com/2013/05/pastors-in-reality-tv-show-based-on.html |
What is it with Prosperity Preachers and getting divorce for no important reason? An article about Bishop Clarence McClendon - Luke 20:46 Beware of the scribes, which desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, and the highest seats in the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts; If you’ve watched much so called Christian television in this country you’ve probably seen Clarence McClendon stalking the stage in his Los Angeles church or perhaps you’ve seen him ordering viewers to the phones during a TBN beg-a-thon. Wearing long brightly colored robes, a catholic style clerical collar, a big gold cross swinging from his neck, McClendon is hard to miss. Like his colorful apparel the bishop is a conglomeration of preaching styles and beliefs. Part word of faith, part latter rain/dominionist, part ecumenist, Clarence McClendon seems to incorporate every faulty doctrine and man made tradition filling the religious market today. As with most of these apostates, money and how to get it plays a major role in McClendon’s preaching. He proclaims the “seed faith” message with the fervor of a Rod Parsley, adds some ecumenist “can’t we all just get along” pleading in the spirit of T.D. Jakes and throws in some positive thinking nuggets worthy of Tony Robbins. Something for everybody. No heresy left behind! According to his bio, Clarence E. McClendon is quite the busy man. He reportedly began preaching at the age of fifteen, assumed his first pastorate at the age of nineteen and today serves as Senior Pastor of Full Harvest International Church in Los Angeles Ca. In addition he has founded the Siloam Bible College and Clarence E McClendon Leadership Institute as well as the Full Harvest Network of Churches, Ministries, and Entrepreneurs. He is often introduced as Dr. Clarence McClendon and his P.H.D. is prominent throughout his website. A call to his office confirmed that his P.H.D. was acquired through Friends International Christian University, an unaccredited school based in Merced Ca. F.I.C.U specializes in degrees by correspondence and claims such religious notables as T.D. Jakes, Frederick K.C. Price, and Ira & Bridgett Hilliard among their doctoral alumni. F.I.C.U. offers students the opportunity to advance rapidly through a degree program with the application of “lifetime learning credits” This means that your life and work experience may be applied toward your degree in lieu of actual classroom work. Some might refer to this type of school as a diploma mill. I’ll allow the reader to make his own judgment. The ministry claims that currently over 160 million homes in North America, South America, the Middle East, Europe and Africa have access to C.E.M.M television broadcasts. On top of that, Bishop McClendon hosts Gathering Force Crusades in major cities across America drawing tens of thousands throughout the year. Sounds like he’s got all the bases covered. But wait, that’s not all! McClendon also serves on the Bishops Council of the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship, the College of Bishops of the International Communion of Charismatic Churches, is the California Regent for President Bush’s Faith Based Initiative Faith Center, and serves as a board member of the Do Something Foundation which advertises itself as a think tank of some of Americas top young leaders. Are you impressed yet? Well, if not there’s more! The Bishop is not only a preacher, broadcaster, administrator, educator, and entrepreneur par excellence he’s also an accomplished author and musician having three books and a Billboard top ten CD to his credit. How does this guy possibly find time for church and family? Well, that’s where he seems to have run into a little problem. 1Tim 3:2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach; Full Harvest International Church was affiliated with the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel (ICFG) when McClendon assumed the pastorate in 1991. In 2003 however he abruptly withdrew his church from that denomination citing “politics, real estate and systematic racism” as the reasons. ICFG officials denied the charges claiming that African Americans were represented in all levels of leadership within the denomination. The real story seems to be a little more sordid. After 16 years of marriage (and four children) “Bishop” Clarence McClendon announced his divorce from wife Tammera with the following statement to Charisma New Service ’McClendon said that he had married at 18 "for all the wrong reasons." He added: "The only reason [it] lasted as long as it did was because we both loved God. [Tammy] just made a decision about what she wanted to do with the rest of her life. I'm sad to say we are completely divorced."’ He added “"I have a calling to preach, not to be married. My calling is between my heavenly Father and myself. It doesn't affect my ministry." It seems that his calling to “preach, not to be married” changed however when he married Priscilla Delgado of Los Angeles only seven days after his divorce from Tammera was finalized. The ceremony was performed by Bishop Earl Paulk who was supposedly providing spiritual counseling to McClendon at the time. McClendons ex wife tells a different story. According to Tammera her husband had wanted out of the marriage for the last five years. "I didn't want a divorce," Tammera told Charisma. "When I finally said yes to Clarence, he asked me to file because it would look bad if he divorced me-which could hurt his ministry." She also denied that racism played a part in the split from ICFG. "Clarence shared everything with me before we had marital problems, and he never once said that Foursquare was racist toward him," she said. Apparently the Foursquare denomination has a policy requiring newly divorced ministers to step down from the pulpit for at least six months and to undergo a review by the denomination's Ethics Committee. McClendon of course claimed that this policy had nothing to do with his decision to withdraw. Does anyone else smell a rat here? I ask this question. Based on scripture, is Clarence McClendon qualified for the office of bishop? When a man is not qualified for an office yet refuses to relinquish that office, what does that say about this man’s true beliefs and character. What does it say about those who support him in his efforts to remain a pastor and bishop? Math 7:15-16 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Jesus said we shall know them by their fruits. Not only by what they say but by what their lives produce. Clarence McClendon is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. He wears a mask. He deceives gullible Christians with his smooth words. Attempting to hold on to all his accolades, all his exalted positions, all his acclaim within the Christian community this man jeopardizes not only his own immortal soul but others as well. He brings disrepute upon the Lord Jesus Christ and causes the world to hold the entire body of Christ in contempt. If we truly loved the Lord and his word we would not be deceived by such men. Our response should be the same as Paul ordered in 1Cor 5. We should remove this man from fellowship and turn him over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh in the hope that he might repent and his spirit be saved. Mark 8:36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? An article from 2004 about Jesse Duplantis: This week, Jesse stars in the new reality TV show “Keeping up with the Copelands!” A few weeks ago I revealed how Kenneth and Gloria Copeland are trying to manipulate their followers into buying them two new Cessna Citation X private jets. Well, not to be outdone by the Copeland's, Jesse has decided that he too must have a new Cessna Citation X in order to “preach the gospel to the world” According to Jesse’s website : ”God has given JDM a commission to, "Go ye into all the world, and preach the Gospel to every creature" (Mark 16:15). As these last days draw to a close, it's time to speed up the work and reach more nations with the Gospel. God will not be satisfied with a half-fulfilled assignment and neither should we”. In order to complete this assignment, God has told us to believe Him for a Citation X (10), an $18 million corporate jet with the speed and fuel capacity to fly anywhere in the world.” With apologies to Janis Joplin Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a Citation Ten I’ve been flying Delta, I must make amends Worked hard all my lifetime preaching about sin, So Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a Citation Ten Kenneth and Gloria are asking for two I know that’s greedy, for me just one will do I’m begging my partners to send their cash in, So oh Lord, won’t you buy me a Citation Ten! Here’s an interesting story from the book of Acts that you should consider if you’ve ever felt led to give to one of these covetous wolves. In Acts chapter 8 the story is told of Philip the evangelist who went to Samaria and preached Christ unto them (verse 5-13). After this the angel of the Lord tells Philip to go down to Gaza. (verse 26). As he was going he came upon a man in a chariot who was reading a scroll of the book of Isaiah. The Lord told Philip to go up to the man in the chariot. Philip explained the meaning of Isaiah’s prophecy. This particular passage is found in Isaiah chapter 53 which is the gospel. So Philip preached the gospel, the death, burial, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ to this man. Upon hearing and understanding the gospel, the man wished to be baptized which Philip did. Now check out this verse: Acts 8: 39-40 And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing. But Philip was found at Azotus: and passing through he preached in all the cities, till he came to Caesarea. Philip was translated from the middle of the desert to Azotus, (Ashdod) and he didn’t need a $20 million dollar jet to get there! Do you realize that within a few years after the day of Pentecost the early church had preached the gospel in almost the entire known world. And it didn’t cost them billions and billions of dollars. And they didn’t need satellite TV and private jets to do it. What they did need was obedience to the Lord. What it cost them was their lives. When you finally decide to lay down your life, your will, your plans and take up the cross in obedience to the great commission, the Lord will make sure you get to wherever he wants you to go. On his website Duplantis talks about those who would give to this project being obedient to the leading of the Lord. Well Jesse let me tell you about obedience. Philip was obedient to the leading of the Lord. You should take a lesson from a real evangelist. Repent from the preaching of your false gospel! Repent of your covetous idolatry! You should sell everything you have, return the money to your partners and actually lay down your life for Christ. 2Cor 11: 13-15 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works. Steve Lumbley 2004 This article may be reproduced and distributed free of charge as long as it remains in its original form. http://www.apostasywatch.com/Wolves/WolfReports/JesseDuPlantis/tabid/92/Default.aspx No wonder our Nigerian Pastors don't want to be left out in having private jets for the work of the gospel. |

An indeed controversial high ranking Nigeria police officer, Joseph Mbu, has ordered the arrest and detention of a journalist for describing him as “controversial” on a TV programme. The journalist, Amaechi Anakwe, a reporter cum presenter for the African Independent Television, AIT, was detained Thursday morning after he reported at the Zone 7 police headquarters in Abuja, on the invitation of Mr. Mbu. Mr. Mbu had demanded to see the journalist shortly after he described him as controversial on a TV programme on his station, Matters Arising. Mr. Anakwe’s colleague told PREMIUM TIMES the police officer sent in the first call for the reporter last Friday. It was turned down on technicalities after the media house complained the letter inviting Mr. Anakwe was addressed to the reporter in his personal capacity. A subsequent invitation was served on the media house on Monday. Mr. Anakwe and the Chief security Officer of the AIT were subsequently dispatched to see Mr. Mbu on Tuesday. After a long wait for the police officer who was said to be in the presidential villa, both men were asked to report back the following day. Mr. Anakwe was seized on their second visit. “I think it has to do with the culture and level of impunity that Mbu has been allowed to exhibit right from his days as police commissioner in Rivers state to today,” Imoni Mac-Amarere, Executive Director, News and Current Affairs at AIT, said. Spokesperson of the Zone 7 police command, which Mr. Mbu now heads, could not be reached for comments. But the overall spokesperson for the Nigeria Police, Emmanuel Ojukwu, told PREMIUM TIMES the issue has been “resolved”. When asked if it is right for journalists to be arbitrarily detained by the police, he said: “I am saying we have resolved the issues. That’s all!” Mr. Mbu, recently promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General, was a former commissioner of police in the Niger Delta state of Rivers. He was pulled out of Rivers to head the Abuja police command – shorty before his promotion – after he had protracted face-off with that state’s governor who accused him of siding with the presidency and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party to undermine him. Both Mr. Mbu and the Rivers governor, Rotimi Amaechi, recently tore at each other publicly with the later accusing the the police officer of unpatriotic allegiance to the wife of the president, Patience Jonathan. That comment was in reaction to Mr. Mbu’s who described himself as a lion who tamed the governor, a leopard. “I cannot understand why an individual like Mbu is allowed to remain in the police to continue to tarnish the image of the force and its officers. It’s unbelievable!” Mr. Amarere told PREMIUM TIMES when asked of the implications of Mr. Mbu’s detention of his colleague. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/168969-controversial-police-aig-mbu-detains-ait-journalist-for-describing-him-as-controversial.html |

Benny Hinn's Former Church to Be Sold in Foreclosure Auction Clint Brown, the pastor of Faith World Center in Florida, televangelist Benny Hinn's former church, is holding worship services at a school with a new name for his church, as its property is set for a multimillion-dollar foreclosure auction. The Faith World property in Central Florida, which Hinn sold to Brown, a Christian recording artist, in 2000, will be auction online next week, according to Orlando Sentinel. The Evangelical Christian Credit Union of California had filed a lawsuit last September after the church defaulted on its mortgage, on which it owed about $9.7 million, the newspaper says. Orange Circuit Judge Lisa Munyon ruled early last month that Faith World, which owed money to several other companies as well, be auctioned. Pastor Brown is now holding Sunday services at Wekiva High School's auditorium with a new name for his congregation, the Judah Church. About a decade ago, questions were raised about Pastor Brown's personal finances. His lifestyle included Rolex watches, Las Vegas shopping sprees and a 4,455-square-foot home in Alaqua Lakes, with a $7,000 monthly mortgage paid by Faith World, according to the Sentinel. In a recent sermon at the new location, Brown told the congregation that the church had been "abused." "Can I tell you this morning? We've been through some pain. We've been abused. … We have been lied to. We have been taken advantage of," he was quoted as telling the congregation. "The enemy, the enemy tried to stop us, tried to hurt us." Hinn's World Outreach Center was based out of Faith World Center until 1999, when he moved it to Texas. Brown then took over the Florida property and merged with the faith-healing evangelist's local congregation. Hinn has also been under debt. Last year, Hinn asked supporters of his ministry for $2.5 million in donations, which he said an anonymous donor will match dollar by dollar to help him get out of debt. "God wants your ministry to be completely out of debt, and I want to plant an anointed seed that will help you take a giant step toward becoming totally debt-free!" said the anonymous man, whom Hinn called a "long-time and beloved" friend. Although Hinn reports having several outreach ministries, including orphanages in Asia and Mexico, and relies on donations to finance his national and international "miracle crusades" and evangelistic meetings, the evangelist remains controversial among some in the Christian community for teaching a prosperity message. Hinn, who reportedly has a net worth of $42 million, also has been criticized and investigated by numerous news organizations for his purported faith healings. http://www.christianpost.com/news/benny-hinns-former-church-to-be-sold-in-foreclosure-auction-122794/ http://www.judah.cc/ http://www.tcpalm.com/lifestyle/nationally-known-pastor-drawing-thousands-to-st |

What has having beard to do with your faith? |
A lot have been discussed on this important topic with different views all good measures. I guess it all narrows down to personal views and experiences. In my humble case - it's a personal choice. I have been priviledged to visit other parts of the world, do business and presently involved in consulting. Things are organised and they value time-keeping very much, these two attributes are total alien to an average Nigerian. What we have in Nigeria is 'chaos raised to the power 10'. What still strike me is that an average Nigerian have got more passion about a better Nigeria, however our politicians have a total different view point. Most of their families are based all over Europe and US. They launder the country's resources on investments in other parts of the world (US, UK, Switzerland, South Africa and the latest happening city - Dubai). If they have common cold, they are on the next available flight to Europe, yet our hospitals are glorified dispensaries. Their children all schooled in private institutions and universities, yet our various educational establishments have been reduced to mere playgrounds. Every holiday period is spent in choice vacation hotspots around the world. Now, the question I have for the pro-camp is that, if our politicians themselves are not proud of Nigeria, how can they expect ordinary folks to be proud of the nation, where basic amenities are at a premium - light, water, efficient transportation links, security, affordable healthcare, guys these listed 5 things are not rocket science that can't be provided with the abundance of resources we have in Nigeria. Our politicians both past and present are just very wicked. At least they travel over the world and see how things are done, why can't they replicate just a fraction of these here in Nigeria. The truth is we Nigerians are the most cultured people in the world, we don't expect Nigeria to be El-dorado overnight, however all we just want is for a country that places 'high value' on its citizens. If the country can provide the 5 listed items in the preceding paragraph, I won't be surprised if 60% of Nigerians in diaspora relocating back to the country. |
