The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has raised concerns over an outbreak of the Anthrax disease in the neighbouring Niger Republic.

In a statement on Friday by the Chief Veterinary Officer of the Federation, Oniya Alabi described anthrax as a deadly zoonotic disease with high rate of mortality in human and livestock.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana (SAN) on Wednesday revealed that the appointment of Edward Adamu as the new Chairman of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) cannot take effect until Muiz Banire has served his full term.

According to him, it will be illegal for Adamu to take charge unless Banire himself decides to resign before the expiration of his 5-year tenure.

President Muhammadu Buhari has said Nigeria will collaborate with and support Hyundai Engineering Company Limited to set up a car plant, and also rehabilitate petroleum refineries.

Mary Chiwenga, the wife of Zimbabwe’s Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, has been charged in Harare court for the attempted murder of her husband.

Mary, a former beauty queen and model, was initially arrested on Saturday by the Zimbabwe Anti Corruption Commission (ZACC) for alleged $1million fraud.

Also, she is battling with a $700 000 lawsuit, instituted by her ex-husband, a former footballer, Shingi Kawondera for forging his signature on the divorce consent papers.

Arraigned today (Monday), her case took another turn after the Vice President who had suspected her for poisoning him, which led to long medical care in South Africa and China, made startling complaints in court documents today, that she actually tried to kill him while in hospital.

Management of The Sun Newspaper has distanced itself from the legal battle between the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and former Abia State governor, Orji Uzor Kalu.

This is coming after the EFCC on Saturday marked the convicted Senator’s properties; Sun newspaper and Slok Nigeria Ltd. to ensure that the properties were not dissipated, following the December 5 order by Justice Muhammed Idris of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos.

In a statement titled: ‘EFCC visit to The Sun office with armed policemen: Our Stand’ on Saturday, The Sun newspaper called on the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Minister of Justice to stop the anti-graft agency from sealing the company’s corporate headquarters.

“The recent Judgment against Senator Orji Uzor Kalu should not be used to disturb the operations of the company and the proprietary rights of its innocent shareholders.”

The UK’s Charity Commission is investigating SPAC Nation, a church headed by a 39-year-old Nigerian, Tobi Adegboyega over allegations that young members are pressurized to sell their blood and also take loans from banks to donate to the church.

The investigation follows HuffPost UK’s report earlier this week, that alleged that some members of the church had been taking teenagers to donate blood for medical trials in a practice known as ‘bleeding for seed’.
