Change ur air filter
Check tyre pressures, make sure they're properly guaged.
Check ur driving pattern.
Use the right fluid and get 4seasons tyres.

Good post, a lot of people don't realize how one drives or even not filling their tires fully can change their fuel consumption.
My mom complained to me about the fuel consumption in her car. It was a 2 year old car. I watched her drive and wasn't surprised. She would speed up just to get to the red light. Told her to not accelerate and brake so much, keep a constant speed and coast into the light instead of speeding up to it then hitting the brakes. She did that and her gas lasted around 2x the time.

Do the simple things. Watch how you drive, don't accelerate just to brake, make sure your tires are filled, change your air filter and your mileage should improve.

Most of the time budgetbis always the problem. If you have a good budget and don't know which car to buy its bcomes a major problem to address. This is why I place budget to 2nd to last port.

The example you used, 20m can buy you a tokunbo toyota Highlander 2013 either limited or le or Se its a 7 seater and you can as well use it for your business. You can as well get a tokunbo Honda Pilot like you mentioned and still have a lot money left over for you business. You can also get a Ford Explorer, 7 seaters, you can also get a toyota tacoma 2 doors (ie 4doors) 5 seaters with lot of space at the back for ur business, F150 Ford is also an option.

But some people don't even have an idea which car to even buy, that's where the problem is

In my years of being car dealer I've come across different classes of people, in the top, middle and lower class strata. One thing is common and perculiar about all of them.

Satisfaction.

Every customer wants a good run for their money. This is why I go the extra mile to satisfy every of my customers, no matter how slim or deep their pocket maybe.

Another thing is also common, most of them don't have an idea of exactly what they want or the kind of car should fit them as a person.

This is why I am doing this to help guide propective car buyers to decide before approaching a car lot or car dealer.

Now, before you decide on which car to buy, especially for those planning to get their forst car you must first consider these few things.

1. Purpose: you must ask yourself what do you really need this car for.
Questions like these should be addressesd first.
Do I need this car daily running, home to office and office to home, weekends hangouts, religious gathering.

Do I travel a lot or just for school runs for dropping and picking up kids?

Or I work remotely, so car will only be used maybe 2 or 3 times weekly.

For wife or as 2nd or 3rd car?

Is it for business and also for office in combine.

The purpose has to be well defined


2. Marital Status; Alot of customers don't consider this when making decisions to buy a new car.
You can't be married and you're buying a 1 door car. You can't be married with 4 kids and you're buying a 5 seater sedan, you can't be single or a student and you're considering to buy a 7 seat car. What exactly do.you need it for?
Marital status and family size should play a vital role in your decision making.

3. Budge: Every customer has a budget to spend no matter how big or small they may appear.
After consdiering and deciding on No.1 and No.2, you then look at how much you have to spend.
Mind you, there is no car you'll ever buy, be it a brand new, tokunbo or local use that you wont have to spend on... pls put that in mind.
So as you have a budget for purchase, you must also have a budget to make it your car because the care was never yours until you finaly pay for it, so you've to bring it to your own taste. because it's your 2nd wife, and your 2nd home. Know that so you must set aside some money to carry out some things.

We car dealers will say, buy and drive, nothing to fix. Yes, to those that are honest, it's doesn't totally eliminated the fact that you wont buy fuel, do servicing, buy one or two to make it fit your taste. So you must have money set aside for expenses after purchase.

4. The the or Make/Brand of car: all the above trickles down to this last point. Until you've carried out all.of the above before you will now know the type of car to buy, otherwise you're still a window shopper.

In conclusions, I will share an experience of what tra spiked yeaterday btw myself and a contact of my. I can be very blunt, I some times don't care how you may feel but I'll alway tell you the truth.
Now, yesterday this my friend sent me a request which he later deleted...lol.
In that request he said a client is serious and ready to buy a car this week. Now among his list of cars are any car from 2018 to 2020 and he listed about 6 brands of cars, lexus, MB, Acura, Honda Accord, Toyota and BMW... I read the request I didn't have to have a rethink before I gave him a reply.

Thank you for your submission. I am not a Benz fan or German cars fan. But your explanation is tempting. The normal stereotypes about Benz is that they are costly to maintain, no matter the model. These Benz models you highlighted here, how cheap are their parts? Cheaper in Toyota class or slightly pricey? And these Benz(es), are their automatic gears good or they are better bought as manual tranny? What is the cost of replacing an automatic tranny for the Benz models you highlighted above?

I am asking this because I still remember that the backlight of a Benz that was bashed from behind earlier this year was around 170k (it is a more recent year , model C300). I don't know if the 170k is for both rear lights because I learned somewhere that spare part dealers prefer to sell both lights at once due to low patronage; i don't know how true.

Yes, the stereotype about MB is very true... butbthe truth us not all benz are difficult.or expensive to maintain.
Yes, benz is a classic and expensive car but not all. The once that are very expensive are the newer models, like the C300 2015 up, GLE class, in fact most benz from 2015 upwards are quite expensive to maintain, but when you compare their cost of maintenence with other manufacturers in the space of two year, trust me, you'll.be shocked that the benz cost less. because mist of their fix can serve a life time.

But you see those old model, 2010 downwards, bro believe you me, their parts are very cheap.

Look, I am a car dealer, also, I do spare parts errands for clients as well. People call me from all walks of life to help help them source for spare parts. I've records I can show vai WhatsApp , I do waybill to Abuja, Ph, CrossRiver state, Mauduguru, and some west Africa Countries. So I can tell you, face by face, most benz parts are cheaper than the corolla.

Now, let's compare.
2006 corolla parts
The last time i bought Complete engine was in January, 2025 @800k
Then, C200K Complete engine was 400/500k

Shocks for corolla 2006 toks, is 30/35k for pair

For C200K 2003/05 2 pairs is 20k

The motor nondey use shaft so I can't compare

Tie rod for corolla brand new is 10k I supposed

Tue rid for c200K brand new is 6k

I use my break pads for 12k miles b4 changing, bit corolla 8k miles I'm changing it .

Gear box for corolla 06 is about 600/700k
The last time I bought for C180 for a client and se.t to Abuja it was 100k... that's was like 2yrs ago... then corolla gearbwas 250/300k

Suspension: lower arm are aluminium and iron, each legs has 3 bole joints, no shalft, because of its back axle, rear wheel drive, making balance to be excellent.
Same applies to the C180 and C200k, 2000 to 2003.
Note: have you heard of the Red top for the W203, ut is regarded as the bullet proof engine, the engine no dey die. Some ML350 dey use same engine. Very powerful engine.

Now, Accord 209/2010, i4 engine, leather seat, not all comes in full option, unlike the W203( C class).,
Suspension: shaft, after some months of usage shaft don dey make noise, kekeke when you're turning, you know how much for complete shaft? But benz no get shaft,
lower arm is only iron with just 1 bole joint, this why Accord easily pulls off the road.
