Politics2019 Election : " It’s Redemption Time"- Chief Kenny Martins Unveils New Group by femioyewale(op): 1:07pm On Aug 02, 2018
2019 Election : " It’s redemption time"- Chief Kenny Martins Unveils New Group

Chief Kenny Martins has challenged Nigerians to shun money politics and allow God to intervene in the political imbroglio plaguing the country and by choosing credible leaders in the forthcoming election based on merits. "There’s something missing in our equation,” he said. “Why don’t we bring God into our equation? It’s redemption time.”

Chief Martins along with eminent Nigerians raised concerns over issues of insecurity in Nigeria as they unveiled an initiative to unite religious groups and ensure peaceful coexistence in the country.

Addressing its maiden world press conference on Wednesday, August 1at, 2018 at the Lagos Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja, the Legacy Initiative International led by the Grand Patron, Chief Kenny Martins and the President, Dr Bolaji Akinyemi, along with other members of its executive unveiled the vision and mission of the group that is out to prepare Nigerians for responsible citizenship and credible leadership, as well as instituting a legacy of responsible citizenship for good governance through public enlightenment.

While delivering his speech, Chief Martins said, “Legacy is an Organisation that has been long in coming. Many well-meaning Patriotic Nigerians have been meeting for nearly one year now and searching for solutions to some of the most divisive issues in Nigeria as a Country, namely: Ethnicity and Religious intolerance. They have spent sleepless nights, travelled long distances for consultations and spent their meagre income on logistics for a cause which is for the common good of all our people in Nigeria. I am very proud to have been associated with them all the way,” Martins said while addressing the conference.

He added: “These consultations have been costly in terms of time and resources to the organisation, but they have given us a great insight on the enormity of the challenges presently facing our Country and the need for all hands to be on deck towards repositioning our Country on the right trajectory to even development and less acrimony.

Martins made it clear that the organisation “is neither a religious organisation nor a partisan political organisation”. He described the group as a social organisation attempting to tackle a social problem through the building of concessions among National Elites.

Wondering why Nigeria is such a dysfunctional society, even with all the natural, human and spiritual resources, Martins drew the audience’s attention to developments in neighbouring Ghana as he compared the state of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport opened in 1979 by the then Head of State, Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo and the Airport opened in Ghana three months ago.

He also rated hospitals in Ghana above those in Nigeria in healthcare delivery.

“There’s something missing in our equation,” he said. “Why don’t we bring God into our equation? It’s redemption time.”

According to him, the Leadership of the organization had met with religious and opinion leaders including: Prophet TB Joshua of Synagogue Church of All Nations, The Arch Bishop of The Catholic Arch Diocese of Lagos; the Arch Bishop of The Catholic Arch Diocese of Abuja; the Sultan of Sokoto; the Etsu Nupe (Emir of Bida), the Prelate of The Methodist Church, Nigeria; the Primate of the Church Of Nigeria, Anglican Communion; the Leader of the Christ Apostolic Church; the Leader of Living Faith Church a.k.a Winners Chapel; the Leader Of NASFAT; the President Of CAN; the Vice President Of CAN; the President Of the National Christian Elders Council; the President of the Christian Counsel of Nigeria; the Leader Cherubim and Seraphim Church; the Leader of the Celestial Church of Christ; the Leader of the Trinity Church; the Leader of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministry; the Leader of Goodnews Miracle Church; the Leader of The Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM); the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity; three former Presidents; many former Governors; many serving Governors, and many senior Legislators.

He revealed that members of the group included seasoned professionals from different illustrious backgrounds, great women of substance and very vibrant youths from all parts of the country.

“We also have members who are Nigerians living in the diaspora. Our diaspora members contribute to our debates through the social media. We also have functional offices in the United Kingdom and other European Countries, while the United States and Canadian wings are fast coming up,” he said. “Apart from peaceful co-existence among Nigerians in the diaspora, our diaspora members have asked us to advocate they should be allowed to vote during elections as many other countries allow their citizens in the diaspora to vote during general elections. In the case of the Nigerian diaspora vote, we understand that there is, in fact, a subsisting judgement of a Nigerian High Court directing the appropriate agency to allow diaspora voting, which judgement is yet to be executed or complied with.

“The twin issues that Legacy has decided to focus its advocacy upon are not in the least exotic. These are hard-core issues that have prevented our Country from developing as fast as it could have developed over the years. The good news is that with the work of Legacy and the organisations that have pledged their support to it, the twin evils of Ethnicity and Religious intolerance will be drastically defeated and degraded in Nigeria, if l may use that contemporary terminology.”

Our Population of Muslims in Nigeria is more than the Population of any other country in Africa. Also, Our Population of Christians in Nigeria is more than the Population of any other country in Africa. Only Nigeria has the capacity to feed 200,000,000 people per year and still remain the largest economy in our continent.

“It is, therefore, a thing of regret that often times the narratives that we see and hear, even from very prominent Nigerians are issues that relate to hate speech and the proclamation of artificial fault lines like Ethnicity and Religious Intolerance.

“We recognize the place of evangelism in every religion and the rights of believers to seek converts to their own sect or mission. What causes odium is not the genuine acts of winning converts but the deliberate denigration of a people or the use of vile language to describe their faith.

“At interpersonal levels, Nigerians of all Faith and Ethnicity love each other. We intermarry with each other, work in each other’s Company and belong to similar social organisations. Nobody buys stuff from the market from only his faith group or ethnic group. Nobody goes to check the faith or ethnic Origin of 3 bus driver before we hop into the bus.

“However, from time to time especially during the period of general elections, the colours of our fault lines become more prominent than ever. Mr Chairman, distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen, it is the problem of these fault lines and the hardships that they have brought to our Country Nigeria, that Legacy is determined with your support to address in a comprehensive manner, once and for all.

“We are not naive to think that what we are undertaking is a simple task that could be solved overnight, but in the words of the Former American President, Barak Obama, we have the “Audacity of Hope” that we shall soon overcome the problem with the support of all that are gathered here today and the millions of Nigerians who are sick and tired of these unnecessary stumbling blocks to National development.

“We must here salute the industry of our Religious and Opinion Leaders in Nigeria for their Leadership and service in the area of opening and running some of the best schools and Tertiary institutions in Nigeria, Housing Estates and Medical facilities of distinction.

“We call on them to turn their attention with the same grace and vigour to the election process in Nigeria in a coordinated effort by the Leaders of the two faith groups in Nigeria, the Christians and the Muslims. There is a saying in some parts of Nigeria that when two persons urinate together, they generate a larger foam. We believe that if our Religious Leaders can quickly overcome their interdenominational and interfaith differences, they will emerge as the most potent force for the choice of Political Leaders in our Country and ultimately bring about the rise of ethical governance in Nigeria without turning the Country into a Theocracy, which is an entirely different form of government from our system of democracy which we cherish.

“It is not difficult to imagine what will be the outcome if the top hierarchy of our Christian and Muslim leaders, with all their wisdom and spiritual disposal, will narrow their choice to a single candidate in a Presidential or gubernatorial election. Such candidate will win easily without having to break any Bank, and when he or she is in office there will be no doubt that the person will be the appropriate agency to allow diaspora voting, constantly conscious of the divine route through which he or she got into office and the consequences of not governing in the best way possible. With time such a practice can become the norm and apply to both the local Government and other elections. We have the audacity to hope that this will come to pass.

“Some of the best sermons in the world are preached on the Nigerian soil on Church altars and different Mosques. Although the Muslim elite faithful tend to listen more to their own clerics, the rate of influence the Christian Clergy have on their own faithful in public offices is to say the least abysmally low, and will continue to be so unless the Christian politicians know that they will pay a political price unless they listen to their resurgent clergy as they galvanise themselves with their current trend of assertiveness.

“Apart from the divisive twin issues of ethnicity and Religious intolerance, there are other equally pressing issues in Nigerian politics that must be addressed urgently and objectively. The first in my own opinion is the Security problems around the country with different brand names ranging from; Farmer-Herdsmen clashes to Bandits-Citizens clashes; Militancy, and deliberate destruction of our economic infrastructure in some regions of the Country.

“With the gallantry of our Armed Forces, the Boko Haram insurgency have now been defeated and degraded. However, from time to time we hear the news of the sizeable numbers of insurgents that have been neutralised. Unfortunately, the Boko Haram insurgency in whatever shape or fashion that they currently exist, still consist a major security threat that must be addressed by the Federal Government. We hear of current changes in the chains of command at the operation theatres. We hope that the changes will bring the much needed succour for the long suffering citizens of Nigeria in the North East zone of our Country.

“Also worthy of mention is the issue of official corruption. Our current score card in the corruption index is nothing for anybody to be happy about. Whether corruption is fighting back or not, we urge the Federal Government to double its effort to make sure that our Country is not overwhelmed by the evil of official corruption.

“The resurgence of kidnapping and other violent crimes like armed robbery along our major highways are very serious security issues the Law Enforcement agencies must quickly address. We know about their constraints in manpower and budgetary issues, but we urge them to maximise their response to these violent crimes with the current resources available to them.

“This is an election year and the election fever is on. We urge all the players to play by the rules and the umpire to acquit itself creditably. The eyes of the whole world are now on Nigeria and will be so until the elections are concluded early next year. We believe that by this time next year after the elections have come and gone that our Country will be even stronger and our economy even more robust.

“The aim of our organisation is to sustain this campaign for peaceful coexistence among our people in every part of the country. As such, we plan to establish viable local wings in all states of the Federation and even in Local Government Areas where we have members. Currently we have functional offices in Lagos and Abuja and many more will come on stream in the near future.

“The task of funding the organisation is enormous. Our funding for now has been through the contributions of our members. This is not sustainable in the long run. We therefore call for the support for our organisation as it struggles to meet these lofty aims and objectives in the interest of peace and development of our Country with very lean resources at its disposal. We welcome donations from well-meaning Nigerians and assure all of you that all such donations will be well utilised and very well accounted for.

In his own speech, the president of the initiative, Dr. Akinyemi revealed that Christianity teaches love and Islam teaches peace, yet both ideals are elusive in Nigeria.

Harping on the need to cross the dividing line and forge agreement towards nation building, Dr Akinyemi said, “Legacy International Initiative is much concerned about high scale of insecurity and lawlessness in the nation, which has led to wanton bloodletting and huge number of internally displaced persons.

“It is saddenning and disheartening that with the global reputation of the Nigerian nation as a highly religious country, the great percentage of our citizens alluded to the Islam and Christian faiths, yet the expected effect of the teachings of these religions is far-fetched.”

CrimeRoyal Shame In America: Prince Of Nigeria’s Benin Kingdom, Osmond Eweka Allegedl by femioyewale(op): 2:03pm On Jul 29, 2018
ROYAL SHAME IN AMERICA:
PRINCE of Nigeria’s Benin Kingdom, OSMOND EWEKA allegedly Defrauded Americans of $54,000 in New York…Scam job seekers out of thousands of dollars promising non-existent offers, dragged before Manhattan Supreme Court
*31 year old created bogus employment agency firms, advertised on Indeed.com
* Interview victims, have them pay a fee ranging between $300 to $700 for uniforms, training, background checks and job placement
*Married attorney Imade Igbinedion in an elaborate wedding in Nigeria in 2016
* ‘Relative, Royal Families, Great Descendants of late Aiguobasinwin Ovonramwe, Eweka II summon emergency meeting’-INVESTIGATION

BY GEORGE ELIJAH OTUMU/AMERICAN Foreign Bureau Chief in New York of Naija Standard Newspaper

HE WAS ONE OF THE great grand children and descendants of late Aiguobasinwin Ovonramwe, Eweka II, Oba of Benin who reigned from 1914 – 1933. The shameful attitude of OSMOND EWEKA, a Prince of Nigeria’s Benin Kingdom in United States of America has brought opprobrium to some of the acclaimed achievements of his great ancestral source been the son of Ovonramwen Nogbaisi (Overami ruled 1888–1897) deposed by the British and exiled to Calabar following the British punitive expedition in Benin City in 1897.

The extortion and stealing of $54,000 from New Yorkers seeking job opportunities by Osmond last week has certainly erode the memory and accomplishment of Eweka II who rebuilt the royal compound earlier destroyed, looted by the British in 1897, and re-established the traditional structure of the kingdom.

Rebuked, rejected and rubbished as ‘The Prince and Fraudster’ in the Western press, Osmond was arrested few days ago for ‘scamming hundreds of job seekers out of thousands by promising them high-paying gigs in New York, which had been found to be hoax.’ This 31 year old married Royal prince, an American citizen living in New Jersey desperate to live large, created fake employment agency firms to defraud innocent Americans through advert placement on Indeed.com to find their victims.

Confirming this development, prosecutors said Osmond and his friend, Kamel McKay, created bogus employment agency firms and used Indeed.com to find their victims. They would interview their victims and have them pay a fee, ranging between $300 and $700. Osmond and McKay would then send the job seekers to businesses where they were turned away because the employer was not expecting them.

According to prosecutors, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office said Osmond Eweka, 31, and his friend Kamel McKay, 27, pretended to run two consulting firms in Manhattan telling clients that if they paid a fee they would be placed at various jobs across New York City.

The Nigerian prince and his accomplice are accused of bamboozling hundreds of job seekers out of thousands of dollars by promising them high-paying gigs in New York. Prosecutors said they pocketed $54,000 and never provided a single job to their victims. Prosecutors said some of the jobs Osmond and McKay promised their victims were for hotel housekeeping and front desk receptionists. The men used the popular job-seeking website Indeed.com to find their victims.

Court document showed that Osmond and McKay used office space in the Empire State Building and another building on fifth avenue to run two bogus employment agency firms, Stamford Consulting Firm and Howard Consulting Group. To deceive their unsuspecting victims, the duo used fake names to avoid easy detection. Osmond went by the name Sean Jackson and McKay reportedly used the name Tyrone Hayes.

Their Method of Operation:
Prosecutors said they would invite their victims to their office for an interview and then have them pay a fee, ranging between $300 and $700. Prosecutor Catherine McCaw said they told victims the fee would cover the cost of uniforms, training and background checks. They also said that paying the high fee would result in higher-paying jobs. ‘But in reality, there was no such job,’ she said at Osmond’s arraignment on Thursday in Manhattan Supreme Court.

After they had used ‘sweet-mouth’ to collect the money, the men would then send the job seekers to different businesses they had no relationship, where the victims were turned away by employers who weren’t expecting them.

The victims then found that they could no longer get in contact with the alleged fraudsters or the consulting firm, as their phone numbers was no longer accessible and office no longer operational.
For the authorities, Osmond and McKay duped 250 people and pocketed more than $54,000. Prosecutors said they never provided a single job. They ran the alleged scam from January to June 2018.

As said, Osmond is a prince from the Benin royal family in Nigeria and McKay is from the Bronx. Both men were indicted on charges of larceny and scheme to defraud. McKay was arraigned last week and released on $200,000 bail. Osmond was in court on Thursday and pleaded not guilty to the charges. He was released without bail.

In 2016, Osmond married attorney Imade Igbinedion in an elaborate wedding ceremony in Nigeria. Though some representatives from the Benin family reportedly said they could not confirm whether Osmond was a family member because the ‘it is a very large family’, but a source in the Eweka family in Benin confirmed that due to the shameful behaviour of Prince Osmond, relatives and great descendants of Eweka II royal family will be meeting to investigate this royal shame.

His words: “Since we heard that Prince Osmond Eweka, a direct descendant of late Aiguobasinwin Ovonramwe, Eweka II was arrested and prosecuted for larceny, stealing and fraud to the tune of $54,000, the royal family had been making contacts so we may have a meeting to investigate this damaging allegation to the reputation, image of Benin Kingdom. Be rest assured, we will brief you on the outcome.”

Eweka appeared in a Manhattan court on Thursday where he pleaded not guilty to charges of larceny and scheme to defraud.

HUMILITY DOES IT --MEET CHARITY BASSEY AND HER $6000 STORY

By Gloria Okezie-OKAFOR

You may have heard the news when it made the rounds early this year --April to be precise. Yes, blogs and print media flashed them on their pages. It was the story of Charity Bassey, the cleaner who worked for Lakewood Development Company --a janitorial company perched with the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria at the Murtala Muhammed International Air Port Ikeja Lagos.

The story had it that young Charity, a native of Akwa Ibom State, and the fourth child in her family, picked a whooping $6000 (approximately #2 000 000) tucked inside a nylon bag, from the floor of the rest room area after her attention was called to it by a passenger who had come to use the facility.

Further revelations showed that Charity took the money to the customer care unit of her company, and she was given hand gloves and asked to count it as the others appeared apprehensive to do so. The money which was in $100 bill was 60 pieces. From then onward, the story just wouldn't die within the walls of Lakewood or even the departure wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Air Port. All thanks to the company's receptionist who spewed the good news for all to hear. The owner of the money --it was gathered --later came for it.

Since that eventful day, humble Charity with a maximum of secondary school certificate, may just be on her way to stardom. Integrity pays, you would agree. Charity's show of character and discipline had started to pay off through recognitions. The first of which was the FAAN AWARDS. And recently, miss Bassey was a recipient of Integrity awards at the just held PINK AWARDS in Lagos.

Simple and very humble, Charity shared the reactions which trailed her goodwill: ''there were mixed feelings from my colleagues. A lot of people think I was stupid, and even called me names. But from home, I was taught the value of integrity and honesty'', she says. On how her family felt after her courageous feat, she admitted that they were happy for her and have remained unwavering in their moral supports.

As an award recipient at the recently held PINK Awards which took place at Mimaya Event Centre in Lagos, miss Bassey who came wearing a pink jacket over a T-shirt and black pair of pants, got monetary gift of #50 000 in cheque from the wife of Ogun State governor, Dr. Mrs. Olufunso Amosun.

Speaking in lieu of this courageous feat, legendary human right activist, Dr. Joe Okei-Odumakin, said Nigeria needs more of Charity Bassey, especially at a time like this when people were going through tough times, and seeing such money, would amount to assuming it was an act of the divine, with the individual feeling compelled to keep the money for himself, thereby hiding any proof of it --afterall no one may get to find out.

This is not the first time Charity is said to have returned lost items in the range of cash, phones, or other valuables. On whether she did this for any form of rewards, she says:''no. I just feel that they should be returned. My happiness is for the returned items to reach their rightful owners''.

PoliticsCall Your Members To Order - Lagos CP Warns PDP Leadership In The State by femioyewale(op): 1:05pm On Jul 22, 2018
CALL YOUR MEMBERS TO ORDER----CP LAGOS WARNS PDP LEADERSHIP IN THE STATE.

What supposed to be a peaceful political meeting of Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) members, in Lagos state, regrettably ended in unnecessary bloodletting.

The incident took place on Saturday, July 21, 2018, at about 1800hrs, during Lagos State PDP Visitation meeting at Igbosuku village, Eti-Osa LGA, attended by Lagos State and Local Government PDP Chairmen.

However, towards the end of the meeting, fracas broke out between contending factions of the party; one faction for the State Chairman, Hon. Moshood Adegoke Sabadon and the other for the Eti-Osa LG Chapter Chairman, Engr Kehinde Fasasi.

In the melee, one Hon. Borishade Adeniyi, the Apapa LG PDP Chapter Chairman, recognised also as the Doyen of PDP LG Chapter Chairmen in Lagos State, was allegedly shot and injured on the leg.

He was rushed to First Consultant Hospital, Obalende, Lagos, where he was treated but eventually died. Corpse of the deceased is deposited in the hospital mortuary. Two other persons allegedly injured during the clash, are also receiving treatment in a hospital in Ajah.

In a swift reaction, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Imohimi Edgal, directed the Area Commander in-charge of Area 'J' Elemoro, to ensure the arrests of all those with hands in the crime. Pursuant to the directive, five (5) of the principal suspects had been arrested; viz:
1. Engr Kehinde Fasasi, chapter chairman, Eti-Osa LG,
2. Hon. Rotimi Kujore, PDP chapter chairman, Lagos Island LG
3. Alhaji Fatai Adele, PDP chapter chairman, Mushin LG,
4. Mr. Ismail Abiola, PDP chapter chairman, Amuwo Odofin LG and
5. Dr. Amos Alabi Fawole, PDP chapter chairman, Surulere LG. ..

The five suspects have been transferred to SCIID, Panti, for further investigation.

The CP is completely disappointed with PDP Leadership in the state for their penchant for violence. It will be recalled that on the 12/07/2018, two male thugs, Wale Oye, 37 and Ganiyu Ajiboluwa, 47, were arrested at Festac Extention by Apple Junction, Amuwo Odofin with two pump action rifles given to them by their hirer, one Hon. Dipo Olorunrinu, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in Lagos State House of Assembly, to escort him to a political rally. Meanwhile, Hon. Dipo Olorunrinu is warned to report at the Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja, on Monday, at 0900hrs for the continuation of his case.

He is reminded that he is only on administrative bail and not acquittal.

CP warns that no political party will be allowed to truncate the peace in the state. He therefore calls on all political parties to disarm their members as nobody or group would be allowed to threaten anybody with firearms.

HealthGTB 8th Annual Autism Conference Raises Hope For Children With Autism by femioyewale(op): 8:55am On Jul 19, 2018
Interestingly, the 8th edition of the GT Bank Annual autism Conference which kicked off yesterday ended well with expectations of stakeholders met when they converge at Muson Centre, Onikan, Lagos on Wednesday, July 18th,2018.

Several health care and medical experts, care givers, teachers, proprietors of special need centers, parents and even children living with autism exchanged information about what autism is all about and the role of the family and the community.

how it can be managed as well as the role play of everyone directly or indirectly affected by the health disorder. And to say that many left fulfilled having gained loads of information would be simply putting it mildly.

Starting off the conference which began on Tuesday July 17th was the representative of the Lagos State government, Joyce Onafowokan, an Early Intervention Expert and a Special Adviser to Governor Ambode on Social Development, who in her address reiterated the fact the Lagos State was the only state out of the 36 states of Nigeria, taking the issue of Autism serious. According to her, not only has the government issued a directive for Lagos State University Teaching Hospital to carry out extensive research on autism and collate data on children with special needs in the state, she disclosed that the state government was already concluding plans to provide centers for children with special needs. In addition, knowing how difficult it is for people with special needs to become gainfully employed, the state government, Onafowokan said, is already blazing the trail in the aspect by providing employment opportunities for them.

peaking on the strength of collaboration in raising a child was the director of Patrick Speech and languages Center, Dotun Akandewho is also an Advance Certified Autism Specialist. She broke down the different roles of everyone in the society (directly or indirectly) involved in the life of a child living with ASD and how everyone should work hand-in-hand to achieve a common goal of ensuring that children living with autism are given the necessary support needed to thrive in the society. While outlining how the collaboration should be done; through education, autism conferences and consultation, autism outreach, research among educators and health practitioners, researches conducted in hospitals, she didn’t fail to mention that collaborations would come with challenges as with everything one sets out to achieve. However, with the vision at the back of everyone’s mind, a greater good will be achieved.

In her presentation, United States based Camille Proctor, an executive director of The Coloyr of Autism Foundation, chose to use her situation to drive home her point. With an autistic child who was diagnosed with autism at 18 months, she was forced to learn about self advocacy as a way to create awareness about the disorder starting with her immediate environment. She encouraged parents to be their special needs children’s best advocates as well as seeking out ways to make a life a more pleasurable experience for their children.

Most often, many mistake autism for mental illness with even medical practitioners, in some cases giving wrong assessment and diagnosis. This Dr Maymunah Kadir, a psychiatrist and the medical director of Pinnacle Medical Services attempted to clarify in her presentation while speaking on the role of mental health in the community. While not ruling out the fact that some autistic children do come down with some symptoms of mental health challenge, she pointed out that experts in mental health should be open to collaborating with each other when making assessments on patients rather than assuming they know it all when in actual fact they may not. She advised medical practitioners in various fields to stick to their calling and not try to dabble into areas that are not their areas of core competence.

There was a panel discussion among health providers on dealing with seizure and other health challenges associated with autism. Among the panelists were a speech therapist, a nutritionist, a pediatrician, a child and adolescent psychiatrist, all of who took turns to highlight on these challenges associated with autism and how well to manage them. To round off the first day of the conference was a session where parents spoke about the challenges of raising a child living with autism.

In all, the GT Bank sponsored 8th Annual Autism Conference was as enlightening as it was emotional. It is instructive to note that Annual Autism Programme was born out of the Orange Ribbon Initiative, an initiative created by GT bank in 2009 to support people with developmental disabilities and special needs. Autism was chosen to be their area of focus due to their concern for people who suffer stigmatization and get very little support in the society.

Christianity EtcEkiti 2018: Why We Should Not Joke With Tb Joshua's Prophetic Warning by femioyewale(op): 10:49pm On Jul 16, 2018
EKITI 2018: WHY WE SHOULD NOT JOKE WITH TB JOSHUA'S PROPHETIC WARNING

The messy controversy over alleged falsification of result and public display of powers between the leading gladiators in the just concluded Ekiti gubernatorial election on Saturday, July 14th,2018 is a sharp reminder of the prophetic Voice of Pro. TB Joshua where he warned Nigerians to pray in order to avert interruption of our democracy.
The unfortunate incident in Ekiti is a litmus test of what to expect in 2019 nationally unless there is urgent intervention.
That Fayemi won the election is no longer news but if his emergence truly reflect the wish of Ekiti indigenes is the major bone of contention.
Sadly, Coalition of observer groups and Civil Society Organisations that observed and monitored the Saturday July 14th Governorship elections in Ekiti State have condemned the announcement of the All Progressives Congress APC candidate John Kayode Fayemi as the winner of the elections.
In a press statement, the group said the election does not reflect what they saw on ground and it will open up on the true findings coming Wednesday 18th July 2018 with details of the malpractices that greeted the election.
The Coalition in a press statement signed by its contact persons Comrade Haruna Farouk and Nze Adachi Okoro said it was regrettable that the Independent national Electoral Commission as well as the security agencies could be used to short change the people of the state the way they did on the day of the elections.
The Coalition said it has gathered evidence that will show how the election was massively rigged describing the situation as a sad moment for democracy in the country. “We have evidences of election malpractices where a particular party in connivance with security personnel went about inducing electorates with cash and coercing them to snap the ballot papers in order to receive cash gifts from the agents of the party in question.
“The level of intimidation that occurred during the elections on Saturday was disheartening and shouldn’t be allowed to stand in modern day Nigeria. We witnessed a situation where loyalists of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP and its agents were harassed and intimidated so as to make it difficult for them to participate in the elections. “Other incidence that we recorded will be made open in our findings which will definitely shock Nigerians and expose the conspiracy of INEC, Security and the APC to deprive the people of Ekiti from expressing their constitutional rights.”
The Coalition called on the international community to condemn what it called the ‘political terrorism’ that took place against the people of Ekiti state on Saturday stressing that their voice against the actions of the Federal Government, INEC and Security agents will help put pressure on the government to do the right thing.
Another teaser being shared on social media states :
. Ekiti2018
So the loser with only 4 LGAs produced 178,121;
Then the winner with 12 LGAs managed to rack up only 197,459 votes?
INTERESTING…
In Lenin’s mathematics: It is not those who vote that count, but those who count the votes that decide the outcome.

The point must be made. What happened in Ekiti is a total falsification of the results.
Despite the widespread cases of vote buying, PDP still won the election but INEC, political thugs and security agents colluded to change the verdict of Ekiti people and the mandate of PDP.

Elections can never be free nor fair, that of Ekiti is the worst robbery in elections.
(c) Mike O.
Truth be told, if what played out in Ekiti is a reflection of what to expect in 2019, then the words of TB Joshua should not be taken lightly that the Future of this country is crying for help.

It would be recalled that prophet T.B. Joshua of The Synagogue Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) in Lagos called for urgent prayers for Nigeria against “interruption of the democratic practice” in the nation.

Speaking to congregants days ago in a service beamed live via the Christian television network Emmanuel TV, the cleric stated he had received a revelation concerning Nigeria on three different occasions, prompting him to make it public.

“I was in my vision and God told me to tell the nation and leaders to pray against the interruption of the democratic practice,” he revealed.

“The president’s heart is like a stream of water in the hands of God and He can control it whenever He wants,” he continued in his customary parabolic fashion.

Joshua then reminded congregants of the ‘prophecy’ he gave in 2016 where he candidly stated Nigeria’s future was“crying for help”.

“You must join me in prayer for the nation because two believers are better than one,” he stressed before enjoining congregants to rise and pray.

Worshippers then joined Joshua in asking for God to give President Muhammadu Buhari and Nigeria’s leaders “a greater understanding of God’s heart, discretion to guide their hearts, understanding that will protect them and wisdom that will rescue them

Governor Ambode Arrives Russia, Pledges To Send Stranded Nigerians Home

Governor Ambode of Lagos State arrived Russia last night for the World Cup finals between France and Croatia, and one of highlights of his arrival was that he pledged to help send Nigerians stuck in the country home.

Recall that we reported that a Russian NGO alleged that approximately 200 Nigerians are stranded in Moscow and 400 all over Russia. They came during the World Cup games in hopes to find jobs to Moscow, but got disappointed.

Instagram user @iampndgreat who disclosed the promise made by Governor Ambode in his post, wrote;

Not a Political Campaign but just appreciating a good and kind gesture by one of our noble Politicians in Nigeria.

The story goes thus:
I had a pick up arrangement today at the airport in Moscow and had a rare privilege of meeting his excellency, the governor of Lagos State; the most populous and commercial Hub of Nigeria. I quickly introduced myself while I waited for my pick up arrangement to come out. We had a small chat and exchanged knowledge and wisdom while I waited.
He bade me farewell as his pick up arrangement had arrived.
After a few minutes, my pick up arrived as well so we set out to the car park.
As soon as we came out of the airport, I saw a crowd of over 50 Nigerians who had been stranded at the airport for almost 10-15 days now. And in their middle was this same man, His excellency , Governor Ambode. As soon as he sighted me, he quickly called my attention to assist.

It was a pathetic state and a lot of words both pleasant and unpleasant were being exchanged. (Not apportioning blames on anyone )
Then his Excellency did something that amazed me. He showed solidarity and quickly pledged to send all 50 Stranded Nigerians home and assigned me to oversea the transfers and procurement of new tickets to send them home.
As I type this, 19 out of this 50 are already on air to Lagos Nigeria, the remaining 31 are leaving this evening.

His excellency also fed them all as he gave them cash to eat while they waited for their tickets to fly home.
I am only writing this to express my gratitude to a man that has shown that not all politicians are the same.
I am well aware that NFF Officials and some other Senior Government or well to do Nigerians are aware of the situation on ground but are yet to be of help.
Kindly help as much as you can.
Nigeria will only be built or destroyed by Nigerians.
The integrity of our Nation is at stake.
Follow this same example; If you have the well withal.

Prophet Joshua Iginla Exposes plan to Assassinate Him

Nigeria’s leading Prophet, Joshua Iginla has exposed plans of the men of the underworld to kill him over his cry against barbaric killings. He made this known in a live service at his church, Champions Royal Assembly, Abuja. He disclosed that he isn’t the only one pin-pointed but some influential men of God and it includes the General Overseer Of Faith Tabernacle, Bishop Oyedepo, The General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries, Apostle Johnson Suleman, and others. In his word ‘ For some weeks now, some terrible men in the underworld have been trailing me, I feel led to share this with the church, they have been pursuing me, trailing me, and looking for ways to kill themselves, though I have reported to security authorities and some of the reports that came to me revealed that some of these men from the underworld have pen down some important men of God in this country, they attend this service, they come every time, either to look for way to blackmail, kill men of God. I’m crying out because when you begin to touch the men of God in your nation, you want to boil the nation. There are some people that want to discredit the Government of Muhammadu Buhari, they just want to cause religious war, they have pin-pointed some sensitive men of God of which I am one of them and I have received calls, messages , threats, and that is why I’m crying out that this is the best time men of God should unite. The reason we can’t unite as a church is because we are divided as church, my concern is that the government of the day should be sensitive, there are people that want to spoil the credibility of the government. We know there are pastors who don’t like other pastors, who want to claim the lives of other pastors and in case you think we don’t know you are here, you come around, record us , you are looking for a way to eliminate yourself, you will die your own death Furthermore, he refuted that the cry of some of the men of God isn’t against the government but against the killings. ‘There are great men of God in this country, people like Bishop Oyedepo, Dr. Paul Eneche, Apostle Suleman, Myself, Prophet L. Buba, our cry isn’t against the government but against killings of Christians and that is our constituency, we don’t belong to any political party, our mindset is that there should be peace in the country but when you begin to pin-point sensitive people in a nation and some people just want to do it so that there will be uproar and before you know link to another thing’ He also stated that their plan is to touch clergies, kill them so they can make it look like religious war. He however led his members to pray against such attacks

Politics of Rejected Candidates: Osun APC Beware by Engineer Akinbola Fatiregun

It is gradually becoming a norm for the PDP to wait for APC to pick it candidates during elections before exploring the loopholes in the candidates or adopting a candidate that failed popularity test at the APC primary election. Politics just like the law does not protect the indolent, it protects the vigilant. Our party in Osun in the recent past have been very vigilant. Our haste to conduct primary elections or political directions have been a bane on our political and electoral victories. As we approach another election we must be weary of such antics of the opposition. We must be vigilant to avoid a repeat of the Osun west political debacle.
We should not forget in a hurry how APC lost that election under questionable circumstances. Distinguished Senator Mudasiru Hussien was disqualified by the screening committee due to some minor infractions. The NWC which is the final say in such matters quashed the disqualification. Ademola Adeleke smelling defeat because of his unpopularity in the rank and file of the APC decided to jumped ship to the PDP. I have always maintained that APC did not lose the Osun West bye election because the election was APC against APC. This is so because turncoat APC members and leaders conspired to suffocate party supremacy worked for the victory of our party man and brother that was not fully integrated into the PDP. Ademola got the PDP ticket on a platter of malice and sentiments less than 72 hours after resigning from our party. He went ahead to win at the polls due to the grand conspiracy of our leaders. I am still hopeful that Senator Ademola Adeleke will return to the progressive hold which his family belongs.
The cloud for the primary elections are gathering again. we must avoid the a repeat of the Osun West scenario. We should not be in a haste to conduct to our primary elections. It will not be an overkill if our party postpone its primary election until we get a clear indication from the people on the other side. I believe PDP wants us to conduct primary elections so they can explore some loopholes that election will present for them for use it against us. We must be vigilant and approach this election with great caution. I humbly, suggest to our leaders that we postpone our primary election until it is safe and PDP has brought out its indication. This will put us in a vantage defensive position

From the gutter to Oxford : How Prophet TB Joshua sponsored Dr.Yinka Oduwole to Phd level in UK – ” I owe my success to the revered man of God”

From a humble home in Lagos, Nigeria to mingling with the greatest minds as a PhD graduate in the world’s most prestigious university, Oxford University, this is the incredible tale of Dr Yinka Oduwole.

Information available to us revealed that the story of Dr. Yinka Oduwole who just graduated from the University of Oxford with a PhD and now a doctor of Philosophy in Engineering Science at such a tender age has become a topic for discussion abroad.

We reliably gathered that the sensational academician was overwhelmed with joy as she shared her story. This is not unconnected to the fact that she came from a poor background without any hope of becoming a force to be reckoned with in life until she met internationally acclaimed prophet and philantropist, Prophet T. B. Joshua.

True to his character of influencing lives and Nations across the globe through his Emmanuel TV partners, he took her in and became a father to her and single handedly funded her education to university level abroad. And today, she has become a success story whose life has become a beacon of hope to the youths.

In her testimony she affirmed the truth that her success story was hinged on a man who never knew her before but picked her from the gutter and made her who she is today.

” when I was growing up in Lagos, I never imagined I would be an alumni of the most prestigious University in the world. I owe my success to Pro. T. B Joshua who took me from the gutter, nurtured me, inspired and sponsored me to greater heights. I can never have imagined I would be here nor attain such an height at such a time like this. He is a true father and my mentor. I am overwhelmed because he is a true example of unconditional love “.

While commending her exceptional testimony during the graduation, Professor Jeffrey Thomas who is the founder and first president of Kellogg College, Oxford said, ” it’s a great pleasure to see Yinka graduate to become one of the very unusual young ladies who has got a PhD from the University of Oxford. She has been an absolute star here”

It would be recalled that testimonies abound from all sectors of how the shepherd In charge of Synagogue Church of All Nations, Pro. TB Joshua has sponsored several children to best institutions in the world and has been influencing lives and Nations across the globe.

Mass Sack Looms At Heritage Bank As Bank Plunges Into Another Distress

indeed a difficult situation presently at Heritage Bank if information at our disposal is anything to go by as the bank is facing difficulties arising from insider abuse and self-dealing.

It should be recalled that the Bank
was listed as one of the financial institutions undergoing distress in 2016. This same situation is recurring and the bank has taken an unprecedented step against some of its senior staffs and directors, to go and recover loans they signed off on. Some powerful management staff we also gathered are abusing their positions, which has affected the bank so much.

A source from the bank revealed that some senior marketing and business development staffs and powerful bank management were abusing their positions and allegedly engaging in racket. But our very dependable source hinted us that in a matter of days, A Tsunami of mass sack might rock the bank, and nobody will be left out from the management staffs to the very lowest staff of the financial institution.

The bank management initially refused to touch the powerful executive directors, preferring to go after staff members suspected of revealing the bank’s problems, but right now mercy is no longer an option for anyone they suspect after the ongoing human auditing.

It would be recalled that sometimes in March 2017, an Abuja company petitioned the Federal High Court and the Central Bank of Nigeria to liquidate the bank on account of its inability to meet customers’ demands.

Geonel Integrated Services Limited, a security services company, cited its own experience, claiming it has over N1.8billion and another $85,859 trapped in various Heritage Bank accounts, and all promises made was never fruitful in transacting business. The matter was later swept under the ground till now.

An inside source who also spoke to us under the disguise of Anonymity told us that Auditing is going on at the moment in the bank, and many staffs are very terrified and don’t even know their fate after the auditors have concluded with their report.

Our findings however revealed that the bank is in distress right now, and some people might be sacked and relieved of their duties if they want anything good to happen to the bank, and for them to regain their customer’s confidence in doing business, the source hinted us.

Science/TechnologyMike Adenuga's Glo Swims In Multiple Crises Over Sack Of 100 Married Staffers. + by femioyewale(op): 2:25pm On Mar 15, 2018
Mike Adenuga's Glo swims in multiple crises over sack of 100 married staffers.
+ orders to pay N29m to sacked technician

Telecoms giant, Globacom, owned by billionaire businessman, Dr. Mike Adenuga is currently swimming in series of crises as it allegedly laid off about 100 married female staffers from its Globacom Friendly Centres and also being ordered by a court to pay one ex-staffer the sum of N29m over unlawful termination of appointment.

Reportedly, we gathered that during the International Women's Day, over 100 female staffers of the telecommunications company were laid off. One of the affected staff, (name withheld) spilled the beans.

According to her, the married female staff (some of whom have served the company for over 10 years) were axed. This is to create space for fresh and young recruits who are currently being employed by Glo.

"Very small girls have been recruited and are still being recruited. They are paying them about three to four times lower than what we earned and one of them I heard have been asked to sign to bonds not to get married for God know when."

Another shocker she dropped is that the sacked female staffers got the shocker of their life when all that they got from glo is a month salary in lieu, "Those who have leave days that have not been utilized, they converted it to monthly salaries. And that was it,for over 10, 11, 12, 13, even 15 years of service. And presently a senior Advocate of Nigeria has been contracted to handle the case!."

Aside that, information available to us revealed that the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN), Kaduna ordered Globacom Limited to pay $69, 212.38 to its former Installation Technician, Souleymane Thera over unlawful termination of his appointment.

Justice Lawal Mani in his judgment also ordered the telecom company to pay him the sum of $11,000 being his 11 years’ vacation allowances.
The court further ordered Globacom to pay interest of 10 percent per annum on the judgment sum from June 22, 2017 till final liquidation of it.
In his judgment, Justice Mani noted that hearing of the case commenced on May 2, 2017 when the claimant opened his case and testified as CW1, adopted his written statement as his evidence in chief and tendered eight exhibits

PoliticsUnderstanding The Ajimobi Administration By Bolaji Tunji by femioyewale(op): 1:39pm On Mar 14, 2018
Understanding the Ajimobi administration

By Bolaji Tunji

There is no doubt that when the political history of Oyo State is being written, the name of the incumbent governor, Senator Isiaka Abiola Ajimobi will feature prominently. There are many reasons for these. In the modern democratic history of Oyo state, Governor Ajimobi is the first civilian governor to enjoy two terms in office. But his tenure goes beyond such feat. Never in the history of the state have there been infrastructural developments that have been witnessed under the watch of this astute administrator. Indeed, his desire to turn Oyo state into a modern 21st century city has earned him different sobriquets, ’The Builder’, ‘ Game changer’, The pathfinder, among others . One would not be too far wrong to state that many are unaware of his giant strides in the development of Oyo state or how he is giving Oyo state a new look. It is also easy to underplay his achievements. But to the discerning and those who have keenly followed happenings in the state, never in the history of modern Oyo state has any governor achieved such feats in infrastructural development.

To understand Senator Ajimobi, it is important to know what motivates him. His words give a clue as to what drives his passion. “I want to be a noble. A noble is a man who serves God and has integrity. I do not want to be too rich or too poor. A poor man will not sleep because he would always think about how to meet his needs, while a rich man would equally not sleep because he would always worry about his wealth. I want to be remembered as a man who made a difference in the lives of people, in the state”.

He is a governor whose burning desire is to take Oyo state into modernity, a city of the 21st century. He is a governor who is convinced that Oyo state must retain its ‘pacesetter’ status in the political and developmental history of the South West, Nigeria and Africa.

Oyo state (Western Nigeria) had always set the pace. It was where the first television station in Africa was established. It was also the region that had the first radio station in the country and Africa, the first stadium and the first university - the University College, Ibadan now known as the University of Ibadan.

True to his words, when his administration was sworn in on May 29, 2011, he had a clear vision of what he wanted and where he was taking Oyo state- to reposition the state in terms of developments and retain its many firsts in developments. His desire to do this was anchored on three planks of Restoration, Transformation and Repositioning. To achieve his objectives of restoring the glories of time past and changing the face of the state into a modern one, he knew the appropriate foundation must be established. He realized that no development would take place without a secure environment. To this end; his first task was to re-launch and reinvigorate the state’s joint security task force, Operation Burst. He did this by making available 20 new patrol van through the efforts of the state's Security Trust Fund (OYSSTF) which he had earlier inaugurated. Close Circuit Television Cameras (CCTV) were also installed in black spots, under the Safe City Project, embarked on by the Governor Abiola Ajimobi-led administration. All these seem to have paid off with absolute peace and security of lives in the state. This fact was reemphasized recently by the state police chief, Mr. Abiodun Odude when he described Oyo state as the most peaceful in the country.

Taking off from there, Senator Ajimobi identified five crucial pillars for developmental purposes and achieving his agenda. For a 21st century state of his dream, education and technology are appropriate and complementary tools that must be properly situated in the development agenda. He realized that the strength of leading, developed and developing countries is in education and technology. “An appropriate, functional education tailor made to fit our environment”, was how he puts it. He quickly identified three things wrong with the current education, the education was not functional and not suited for the environment, two, and it lacks entrepreneurial mix which should make it result-oriented and lastly, it lacks character which is the building block that would turn out responsible and respectable citizens. Indeed, he was scandalized at the total lack of respect exhibited by students. He was of the view that character building is also part of the complete education package. Products of such education must be upright citizens, have respect for elders and be the epitome of good and proper behavior. The problem with the current education was forcefully brought home to him during his encounter with students of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology which led to the “constituted authority” scene. To him, as much as students should have the freedom to express themselves, it should be under the ambit of respect for elders, colleagues and acquaintances. He sees that as good breeding, complete education and the ‘complete man’. To Governor Ajimobi, education that is unable to imbue students with good breeding and character is incomplete. To achieve this concept of complete education, he set up the Schools Governing Board (SGB). Apart from the above stated reasons; the idea was also to ensure that parents are fully involved in the education of their children. Like all changes, this came with its opposition, but the governor was resolute about the way to go. With the inauguration of the board, education in Oyo state took a different turn. A stop was quickly put to the strange idea of promoting students to the next class or on trial, irrespective of performance. Today, Oyo state is reaping the result. In the last West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) result, Oyo state recorded the best result in 18 years. The state government ensured teachers’ salaries were paid, they were duly promoted and the teachers repaid the gesture with performance. A Technical University, different from the universities of technology, was established, to create manpower in the much needed technical areas. Graduates of the institution are expected to have at least three vocational skills, to ensure their independence and be self-employed after graduation instead of looking for ‘white-collar’ jobs. Indigent students were offered scholarship by the institution. Senator Ajimobi’s second pillar of development is in the area of agriculture. In the southern part of the country, Oyo state has the largest expanse of land suitable for agriculture. The state also has the highest number of research institutes in the country. The government has tapped into these advantages. The state has about 360,000 hectares of land, 250,000 hectares is now devoted to agriculture. Presently, Oyo state is the number one producer of cassava. Cassava alone has about 15 different value chains which the administration has tapped into. The governor is encouraging farmers to plant and he is creating buyers, even beyond the shores of the country, for the output. Cashew nut is gradually becoming a money spinner and there are several Indian nationals in the Ogbomoso axis of the state who have equally tapped into this money spinner. Governor Ajimobi’s next focus was on tradition and culture. With a state rich in culture- History of the old Oyo Empire, the use of the Oyo’s Yoruba in the WASSCE, establishment of first radio and television station, establishment of the first university in Ibadan, he decided to build on these legacies by making Oyo state the film capital of Nigeria. The groundwork for this had already been laid and work to this effect has already begun within the expansive premises of the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (because). The fourth pillar is provision of affordable health services. This led to the establishment of the state health insurance scheme. The last of the pillars is industrialization. To assure this, the government embarked on massive road construction with particular targets of roads leading into and out of the major cities in the state. Here, the government also established a first. It became the first administration to dualize roads in each of the zones in the state. Major towns and zones like Oyo, Ogbomoso, Iseyin, Ibarapa, Saki, etc have all become beneficiaries of these massive roads construction. No government has ever done this in the history of the state. The administration equally created a development corridor to achieve the objective of industrialization. To further give Industrialization a boost, the state went into partnership with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). Another first in the country. The aim is to establish an integrated agro industrial park and to support small and medium scale enterprises. China has also bought into the industrialization project with a planned injection of $5billion (N1.8trillion), at first instance, to develop the newly established Polaris-Pacesetter Free Trade Zone, along the Ibadan-Lagos expressway. As at today, close to 150 investors from Asian countries have signified interest in investing in the state’s free trade zone. These are some of the outcome of Gov Ajimobi’s trips outside the country. It was also what informed his recent trip to Denmark. The Denmark trip has started to yield results. Cattle farmers in that country would soon visit Oyo state with the aim of transferring knowledge in ranching and ultimately enhance local beef output in local and international markets. Also, Arla, a major international player in the diary business is in talks with the state government to enhance opportunities in the cattle rearing business and further encourage farmers in modern agriculture method. All these were embarked upon to fulfill the desire of Governor Ajimobi to make Oyo state the food basket of the country. But more importantly, Oyo state has the appropriate and conducive environment for doing business, indeed, it is ranked 4th in the ease of doing business in the country.

PoliticsHypocrites As Anti-tax Champions by femioyewale(op): 5:56pm On Mar 13, 2018
HYPOCRITES AS ANTI-TAX CHAMPIONS

In a rather shameless display of comedy of errors, a group of lawyers, under the aegis of the National Bar Association (NBA), Ikeja Branch, a.k.a. Tiger Branch marched from Ikeja Roundabout to the Lagos State House of Assembly to protest the review of the state’s Land Use Charge (LUC) on Tuesday 13th March 2018.

Interestingly and in a curious twist of events, these champions have been shown to be tax evaders, or at best have been grossly under-paying for their properties. This has been revealed in an exclusive document obtained from the Lagos Internal Revenue Service (LIRS). For instance, the Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Ikeja Branch, Barrister Adesina Ademola, Ogunlana, who led the protest pays a paltry pay-as-you-earn tax of N5,000 per annum. Same goes for the vice-chairman, Carol Ibharuneafe who also pays N5,000 annually as tax. More shocking is the revelation that the likes of the NBA Branch Secretary, Muna Esegine, the Treasurer, Coco-Bassey Thelma, the Social Secretary, Jemerigbe Eyinmofe and the Welfare Officer, Tanimowo Oluranti were not paying taxes as at 2009 as revealed by the same exclusive document! Others who paid taxes that cannot equate to liveable status are the Assistant Secretary, Adedokun Issa Akanji (N1,250), and the Publicity Secretary, Akinwale Ajibola (N15,000).

This sad and sordid scenario throws up some burning questions. Do these gentlemen of the bar stand on any high moral ground to hold protests against a government that means well for the good people of Lagos State? NO!

Truth be told, tax payment is an internationally agreed sustainable source of revenue generation. Anyone that does not support it certainly does not mean well for the state in particular, and Nigeria at large.

PoliticsThe Myths And Reality Of The Land Use Charge by femioyewale(op): 12:26pm On Mar 11, 2018
THE MYTHS AND REALITY OF THE LAND USE CHARGE

The recently introduced Land Use Charge in Lagos State has been generating a lot of hues and cries amongst residents of the state due to the over-exaggerated view that it would further significantly aggravate the worries spawned by the current economic depression and make life more brutish and shorter.

Like all new things, there is bound to be the initial furore. Generally, man’s initial response to change is that of resistance but the perception is bound to change if with emerging facts. This is why more concerted efforts are being made to enlighten the public on the features and characteristics of the new law which is being reviewed seventeen years after it was promulgated in 2001.

Though the current incipient efforts at propagating the essence of the Land Use Charge speaks to the issue in a proactive manner by addressing the Frequently Asked Questions, more robust cross-media response is needed to further educate  skeptical Lagosians by unveiling and unclothing the myths with facts.

According to a maxim “facts are sacred, comments are free”. One of the basic facts is that the Land Use Charge is a consolidation of all property and land based rates and charges payable under Land Rates, Neighbourhood Improvement Charge and Tenement Rate Laws of Lagos State. It derives its legitimacy from the Lags State Land Use Charge Law 2018. It was well thought out as it was comprehensively debated on the floor of the State House of Assembly before it was passed into law. The responsibility for payment of the Land Use Charge resides primarily with the property owner but there is a provision in the law establishing the charge for payment to be made by the occupier who is then empowered to get reimbursement of the payment made from the property owner.

As a boon, assessment of properties for the purpose of Land Use Charge is free and Property Owners are not expected to make any payment whatsoever for the service provided by the Lagos State Government. Owners of empty plots of land will also pay. Anyone who is disatisfied with the assessment can appeal to the Assessment Appeal Tribunal. Furthermore, those who pay within 15 days of the delivery of the Demand Notice will get a discount of 15 per cent.  All property owners are expected to pay their property tax on annual basis but whoever could not afford that can pay monthly. For any two similar properties, the physical appearance, aesthetic features and age will determine the property class rate whether high, medium and low.  The categories of properties include Commercial, Industrial, Educational and Residential.

Commercial properties attract a rate 0.761 per cent of the assessed Market Value. Industrial and Educational properties are assessed at the rate of 0.255 per cent. Investment property fully occupied by tenants or third party charged at 0.761 per cent. Instalmental payments are not allowed because of the 15 per cent discount which everybody enjoys.

A promotional video on the LUC has been released and it is a veritable strategy to enlighten the populace. Amiable Governor Ambode blazed the trail by being one of the first set of citizens to pay the Land Use Charge on his property. Inspirational comedian, Gbenga  Adeyinka, who has also paid encouraged others to do the same too. An archetypal resident, an elderly man extolled the achievements of the Ambode administration opining that the LUC will augment the funds for greater infrastructural development of the state of aquatic splendor and transformation to a fully fledged mega-city. It is a thing of regret that only a fraction of Lagosians are captured in the tax net. Payment of taxes is a civic responsibility which all and sundry must imbibe to take the state to the next level of governance.
