Jite Okoloko’s Company dragged to Court for Violation of Human Rights

Sadly, ten staffers of Standard Alliance Assurance Company have instituted a case against notable indigenous Oil and Gas Company, Midwestern Oil and Gas, before the Federal High Court, Lagos Division alleging threat to life and illegal deployment of the Nigerian Police for debt recovery assignment. Joined as co-respondents in the fundamental right enforcement suit are the Inspector General of Police and Commissioner of Police, Police Special Fraud Unit.

The affected staff are Kadiri Oladele, Dare Shoende, Austin Enajemo-Isire, Olorogun G.O.Emerhor, Chika Onwuchekwa, Olaogun Olushina Moses, Blessing Iyayi Ana, Bode Akinboye, Kadiri Ijerembe Emmanuel and Johnson Eguchukwu,

In an affidavit deposed to by Chief Financial Officer of Standard Alliance Assurance Company, Mr. Dare Shoende and filed before the court by a Lagos lawyer, Barrister Olushola Felix Abidakun, the deponents averred that unless the respondents are restrained by the court , they would continue to harass and violate the fundamental Rights of the applicants to freedom of movement, personal liberty and dignity of human person through their unlawful and unconstitutional invitation, questioning and threatening arrest and detention thereby subjecting them to mental torture.

The applicants, while demanding for compensation of N5million for wrongful violation of their fundamental right to date by the respondents, urged the court to declare that the Police action of embarking on debt recovery for Midwestern Oil and Gas limited is totally outside the Force’s scope of duties as provided for under section 4 of the Police Act and therefore, illegal, unconstitutional and tantamount to gross misconduct.

The applicants are also seeking the order of the court restraining the respondents from further intimidation.

Tracing the genesis of their ordeal in the hands of the respondents, the deponents averred that sometimes in February 2012, Standard Alliance Assurance Company introduced a staff Gratuity scheme for the establishment of fund for the provision of benefits for Midwestern Oil and Gas permanent employees for which a Policy document was issued in favour of Midwestern Oil & Gas Company dated 25th of September, 2012 for an initial period of one year but renewable every year.

They averred further that on 25th of September, 2017, Standard Alliance Assurance Company received a letter from the Oil Company of notice of discontinuance of the said policy with effect from 30th of September, 2017 and demanded for a refund of all monies accrued to it. They said as at 25th September, 2017 when the policy was discontinued, the total money accrued to the company was N719, 234, 114.84.

A settlement meeting was held where the Insurance company was given proposed settlement schedule on how to refund all the monies due and payable to the Oil company, consequent upon which the Standard Alliance paid a total sum of N139,904,639.36, to date; leaving an outstanding balance in the sum of N579,329,475.51

However, contrary to the policy document signed by the parties and settlement arrangement, the Oil company and the Commissioner of Police Special Fraud Unit have been harassing, intimidating and threatening the ten staff of the Insurance company on a purely civil and contractual obligation between two companies.

In particular, the deponents averred that the Commissioner of Police Special Fraud Unit has written several invitation letters to the applicants as well as threatening further arrest and detention if they failed to settle the outstanding indebtedness to the Oil Company.

However in a counter affidavit sworn to by a legal officer of Midwestern Oil and Gas limited, Rotimi Adejoorin, the company, while denying almost all the depositions of the applicants, alleged that the total money outstanding in the scheme was N730, 514,791.60 and all entreaties and demand of the company with respect to payment of the money were not responded to.

He averred that sequel to this development, Midwestern Oil and Gas limited lodged a petition against Standard Alliance Plc on the Gratuity scheme fraud perpetuated against it in the sum of N730,514,791.60 to the Commissioner of Police, Special Fraud Unit to investigate the fraudulent activities of the Standard Alliance as it relates to its intention to defraud.

Adejoorin averred further that Police has power and authority under the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to invite the applicants while considering the merit or otherwise of the petition of the company.

The Midwestern Oil and Gas legal representative then urged the court in the interest of justice not to grant the applicants' reliefs.

The presiding judge, Justice Saliu Saidu, has adjourned for the hearing of the case.

Politics / Sir Adebutu Kensington Distances Self From Son's APM Move by femioyewale: 12:45pm On Mar 08, 2019

Sir Adebutu Kensington distances self from son's APM move

The father of Ladi Adebutu, Sir Adebutu Kensington has distanced himself from the recent move of his son to the Allied People's Movement APM to team up with Governor Ibikunle Amosun's candidate Hon Adekunle Akinlade.

This came up as a result of when Ladi Adebutu's PDP faction lost its final battle at the Supreme Court which affirmed Senator Buruji Kashamu as the authentic candidate of the PDP in Ogun state.

While speaking with Sir Adebutu Kensington on phone, he revealed that he has nothing to do with his son's alliance with the APM in Ogun state and that his son took the decision based on his personal interest.

"Yes Ladi told me about his negotiation with Amosun and APM few weeks ago and I made it very clear to him that I won't be supporting such move both morally and financially. PDP is the party I know and since the party has lost its presidential election to APC, I have congratulated President Buhari and wished him well as he steers the country for another four years.

Otunba Gbenga Daniel who is the backbone of the Ladi movement has told me his plans to support the APC in Ogun state and i have given my blessing to it. A better Ogun state has always been what I crave for" Sir Kensington said.

Meanwhile notable politicians of the Ladi Adebutu movement like Hon Salimot Badru, Hon Waliu Taiwo (DG campaign Ladi for Governor), Iyabode Apampa, Pastor Bisiriyu Popoola, Chief Kola Ogunjobi, Engr Semiu Ayorinde and host of others have since pulled out of the group and threw their weight behind the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress APC, Prince Dapo Abiodun who is also from Ikenne LGA with the Adebutus.

Details of the MOU signed between Hon Akinlade of APM and Ladi Adebutu at Governor Amosun's house has emerged. Federal and state appointments have been penciled down for the Adebutu caucus which include appointment into FHA, MINT, BOI etc. Other details involving the sharing of N1billion given to Ladi Adebutu remains sketchy at the time of filling this report.

Politics / Incessant Attacks On APC Members And Leaders: Nobody Has Monopoly To Violence by femioyewale: 9:51pm On Feb 18, 2019
*Incessant Attacks on APC Members and Leaders: Nobody has Monopoly to Violence*

I have watched severally how the leaders of our party the APC and members are attacked by thugs of the PDP at will and without consequences. The leadership of our party in the state has always called for caution and encouraged us to tow the path of peace as we prepare for the elections.

I must express my dismay at the following recent developments.
1. The coordinated attacks on APC leaders in Ijesa land

2. Our candidate for Osun East Senatorial (Hon. Ajibola Famurewa) raised a legitimate alarm that the candidate of the PDP has raised an army of thugs and have also brought in guns to attack our people, across the senatorial zone.

3. Coordinated attacks on Hon. Adesola Adewumi (The Project Coordinator ORAMP) and Hon. Olubunmi Obeisun (The Chairman Oriade LGA) on the eve of the postponed election. We thought this event will never repeat itself as we reached out to the leadership of security apparatuses in the state and also expressed our displeasures to the leaders of the opposition and asked them to call their boys to order to avoid further deterioration of the matter. The unprovoked attack on the house of Hon. Obeisun again on Sunday morning was a clear signal that our opposition is not ready for peaceful elections or are already scared of their defeat which is certain.
4. Information available at my disposal clearly indicates that the police leadership in Ijesa North is no more in charge. This belief is further reinforced by the fact that PDP thugs invaded the police station, while Hon. Obeisun and some APC Stewarts were there to report the Sunday's incident. A member of our party; Mr. Ojo had his Camera seized/stolen by the PDP members, he was also beaten. Another member of our party popularly known as Dammy Best (A PA to Hon. Bumi Obeisun) was also beaten and his clothes thorn. All this happened in the full glare of the leadership of the police and inside Ijebu-jesa police station.

I want to use this opportunity to put our people on notice, that the APC will no longer tolerate such actions. We shall continue to be law-abiding but will no longer sleep on our rights. We shall be more vigilant and shall meet any act of violence with solid preparations for self-defence.

Recent events reminds one of our sordid past in 2007 while the PDP was in power that they used federal might to frustrate our party out the election because they controlled the levers of government. They (PDP) used the Army, Police, and DSS to chase leaders and members of the then ACN out of the election by arbitrary arrest and wanton killings. I understand that killing and compromising of security is the regular signpost of the PDP, but they should be reminded that the APC is now in power at all levels and their reminding us of their brutal past might leave us with no option but use every tool available at our disposal to protect our members and leaders.

Our party remains a congregation of law-abiding people, we shall continue with the legitimate pursuit of our political quest. We urge members and leaders of the opposition to learn to play politics without bloodshed. If they push us further, they can rest assured that henceforth, there will be repercussions and every action will surely be met with reactions.

Thanks

Signed
Engr. Akinbola Fatiregun

‘’ For Nigeria, we are going to still see what is coming, I’m not a propget of doom but the darkness I see, I pray it clears, I prayed last year and God said we will come out of it but didn’t tell me that we will not see it. The signs are not pleasant , I pray the election will not be postponed and I pray the government of the day will not have couple of protest’.

Young politician, Hammed Solomon Olamijuwon to Nigeria youths: Vote wisely, shun violence, and don’t sell your vote

Young and dynamic Hammed Solomon Olamijuwon has urged youths across the country to vote massively for young and vibrant candidates into respective position that would represent their interest in different level of government in the forthcoming general elections.

Olamijuwon in a statement issued at the weekend, implored Nigerian youths to be an active participants in the February 16 and March 2 elections.

His words: “In few days to this time, we shall be taking a major decision concerning our nation by electing leaders that will steer the affairs of this country. Our decision in the next few days will determine our next four years. The people we decide to elect to the position of power will determine a lot concerning you and I.

“I argue youths to go out and vote during the general election. If we all sit in our homes claiming that our votes won’t count, remember that some persons go out on that day and vote. If they vote-in the wrong people; we will have no choice than to be bound by their decisions over this nation for the next few years to come.

“If you have your PVC, kindly makes sure you go out to vote. Vote wisely. Vote credible and responsible candidates. Do not sell your vote. We must ensure that the right people are elected this time.”

Olamijuwon, a Real Estate developer and Managing Director of HSO Global Limited, while stressing the need for Nigerian youths to play active roles in the forthcoming elections, said the youth votes has the potential to be extremely influential in Nigeria.

“I believe the youth vote has the potential to be extremely influential in this country. Young voters notoriously neglect the importance of voting, but their voice is an important one on both sides of the aisle. Key issues in every election increasingly relate to the concerns of students and professionals between the ages of 18 and 35, making it essential for members within that age group to educate themselves on political issues and take to the polls,” he said.

On his political ambition; the Ijesha man who hail from Ilesa East Local Government Area of Osun State and founder of a Non-Governmental Organisation, HSO Foundation whose youthful political pedigree has endeared him to young and old in the town especially those in the grassroots, disclosed that: “I am taking my time and consulting political stakeholders across the country and my state to know the next step regarding my ambition of serving my people. By 2023 I believe the youth is taken over full time and I can assure my people I am ready to serve them.”

Religion / 2019 Election: If Anything Happens To Nigeria, That Is The End Of Africa--tb Jos by femioyewale: 10:48am On Feb 11, 2019

Founder and senior pastor of the Synagogue Church of All Nations, (SCOAN), Prophet Temitope Balogun Joshua, has warned that should anything go wrong with Nigeria during and after the forthcoming 2019 general election, it would mark the end of Africa.

The foremost cleric in a globally televised broadcast during yesterday's Sunday service gave the warning just as he insisted that Nigeria enjoys a bond with the Almighty God.

He, however, told Nigerians to remain calm, noting that there was no cause for alarm regarding the general poll which commences on Saturday with the presidential election.

According to him, "be calm, there is no cause for alarm." Taking his message further he clearly warned that those who were bent on causing violence during the election should be ready to face trouble, just as he added that Nigeria would remain intact after the election.

"Those who will cause trouble will see trouble. Those who want peace will see peace. There is no need to stock food. After the election, there will be a lot of situations. When it is about to rain, the cloud will gather and it will become dark. But after the darkness comes light. But you will respect God more after the election, " he said.

Speaking on the place of Nigeria in Africa and in the scheme of things, he held strongly that "Nigeria is the giant of Africa.
After the election, you will say God is great.
When you come out to cause panic, you will see panic. If anything happens to Nigeria, it will be the end of Africa."

He therefore allayed the palpable fear across the country when he added that "God will not allow anything to happen to Nigeria. It is just a cloud that is hovering. Be calm. This nation has a strong bond with God. Nigeria will stand. Those who want to cause trouble will see trouble but the nation Nigeria will stand."

How Shepherd Bushiri, Wife’s Arrest Confirmed Prophet Akinbodunse’s Prophecy!

News making rounds has it that popular prophet, Shepherd Bushiri and his wife has been arrested for fraud and money laundering today, Friday, 1st of February 2019.

The Enlightened Christian Gathering Church leader Shepherd Bushiri and his wife was arrested on fraud and money laundering charges involving more than R15m.

The Hawks confirmed the arrest on Friday, but did not name the couple. The church, however, issued a statement confirming that Bushiri and his wife, Mary, were taken into custody on fraud and money laundering charges.

Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said on Friday that the arrest took place at a “lavish hotel in Rustenburg”.

“The Hawks’ case against the pair concerns alleged offences of fraud, money laundering and contravention of the Prevention of Organised Crime Act (POCA). The crimes were committed from 2015 in relation to Exchange Control Regulations related to foreign currency in an amount of $1,147,200 (about R15.3m).

“The couple who run several business enterprises in South Africa and abroad are expected to appear before the Pretoria Commercial Crime Court on Monday,” he said.

The church statement said that, at about 7am on Friday, armed members of the police stormed the Sparkling Waters Hotel in Rustenburg.

“We were later made aware that they were members of the Hawks. They took the prophet and our mother, Prophetess Mary Bushiri, in handcuffs to Pretoria,” the statement said.

“As you will remember, from last year, we have struggled with reports that our father [Bushiri] was guilty. He has been detained and is being questioned by the Hawks in Silverton, Pretoria

It will be recalled that the general overseer of Freedom for All Nations Outreach (FANO), Prophet Samuel Akinbodunse had earlier predicted that there will be a lot of trouble for fake ministries in 2019 during his 2019 prophecies

In his words

“The Lord said to me more than 9 times that in 2019, he will open judgement on fake ministries, pastors, preachers of the world, starting from January”

Police Arrest female gang threatening Nollywood Actress,Matilda with Nude Pictures

The police have arrested one of the female gang of hardened criminals who have been threatening Nollywood actress, Matilda Lambert with a Computer-Generated nude pictures.

The suspect, one Adepoju Tola Ife who works as a child care support/matron in a Church in Ajegunle area of Lagos has been arraigned on miscellaneous offences including blackmail, threat to life among others.

According to sources, the suspect is part of a team of blackmail syndicate that contacted the fast rising thespian, Matilda Lambert on whatsapp threatening to publish her nude pictures on all Nigerian blogs or pay them the sum of Two Million Naira (N2m).

Unperturbed, the beautiful actress, with the agreement of her management consulted the police and she was promptly advised to deal and negotiate with the fraudsters with a view to nabbing them.

Gullible as they were, the fraudsters gave a First Bank account number 3117532921 belonging to Adepoju Tola Ife who has now been charged at the Ikeja magistrate court 1 from where she's been transferred to Kirikiri prison as an awaiting trial suspect.

On interrogation, the lady who's in her 40s told the police that she's actually working for her fiance, one Adewusi Adesina, a convicted ex police officer serving a 14 years jail term for recklessly shooting an innocent man.

Adetola Ife confided in the police that, she and her husband ventured into the business with the hope of raising enough money to plan their wedding which is billed to hold immediately her fiance completed his jail term.

Her confessional statement had led the police to Kirikiri Maximum prison to interrogate the trigger happy ex cop, Adewusi Adesina, who's the real actor behind the blackmail trade. We gathered efforts to join him along with his mistress in the suit are ongoing.

Despite all these disturbing discoveries, the convict, we're told is still threatening to release the said fake nude pictures to the public, an effrontery police see as a welcome idea that'll further ease investigation activities.

The police are saying his new threat to release the fake nude pictures will definitely help detectives to further trace and apprehend his retinue of gangs because cyber bullying is a serious crime right now, "it'll help us make more arrest, this is one case we'll follow to the letter, we will be interested to know the meeting point between a blogger or anyone at all who receive such nude pictures from a convicted criminal".

Nigerian youth need to be actively involved in politics -Hammed Solomon Olamijuwon

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of HSO Global Limited, Hammed Solomon Olamijuwon have urged political leaders to involve more youth in their activities towards peaceful general elections.

He was speaking to TheMomentNG in an exclusive interview while he also decried what he described as neglecting of youths and canvassed greater participation of the Nigerian youth in politics.

Olamijuwon regretted that for the greater part of Nigeria’s political life, the Youths had been completely sidelined, he said the error has denied the nation the necessary energy that should drive the country’s development.

The youthful entrepreneur cum-Politician who was recently listed among 2018 top 60 Most Influential Personalities in Ibadan, Oyo State said the Nigerian youths needed to be groom towards good governance.

“The educated youths need to come back together to influence others. It is on this vision that I want us to come together. Politics is not just for experienced people. We also have our role in ensuring that normalcy is restored in our grassroots,” he said.

Olamijuwon whose youthful political pedigree has endeared him to young and old in his Oyo State especially those in the grassroot says the youth have a role to play in political leadership and other responsibilities to the community. To play this role, he enjoined them to be actively involved in the political processes.

“Leadership is key to direction and it is time we start highlighting the problem of our leaders. We have leaders who don’t have experience and it is time we all come in.

“To perfect change in this part all the world, we all need to get involved and our orientation that politics is meant for some people must change.”

Mr Olamijuwon said the solution to the myriads of problems bedevilling the country is not increment in workers’ salaries but the failure of the government to properly manage our resources.

He said that if our resources are well managed, everyone at the grassroots would find a good job and provide for his or her family.

“To have effective and efficient political leadership, we must start from the bottom to the top. We must all be involved. It is not right to say politics is meant for some people. It is for all of us,” he added.

Revered clergyman, Prophet Israel Oladele Ogundipe of Genesis Global Church, has raised an alarm over over an impostor swindling unsuspecting members of the public in his name.

The impersonator runs an account with the name "Dele Ogundipe" at EcoBank, and has equally opened many Facebook accounts in the name of the popular prophet, where he scams ignorant Nigerians of their hard earned money.

The fraudster's account details with EcoBank are: Isreal Oladele foudation

Meanwhile, Prophet Ogundipe, said he doesn't have any EcoBank account, and has urged his followers home and abroad to disregard the fake account, adding that at no point would he solicit for money from anybody on social media.

"As a matter of fact, every donation that people make goes straight to the church's account, which I'm not even a signatory to. We have administrative people who sign our cheques, not me," Ogundipe asserted.

SYNAGOGUE CHURCH TAKES FULL CARE OF THE BEREAVED FAMILIES OF THE COLLAPSED GUESTS HOUSE

A survivor in the collapsed Synagogue Church of All Nations SCOAN, guest building, Mr Taiwo Taiwo has admitted before a Lagos High Court sitting in Igbosere that the Church has been responsible financially in looking after all the dependants of all the deceased persons from the day of incident till now.

The Lagos State Government had sued the Synagogue Church of All Nations over the collapsed building that killed 116 worshipers of the Church, on September 12, 2014.

The defendants are Oladele Ogundeji and Akinbela Fatiregun charged alongside their companies - Hardrock Construction and Engineering Company and Jandy Trust Ltd.

They are facing 110-count charge of involuntary manslaughter while the Registered Trustees of SCOAN were charged with one count of building without approval.

The Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions accused the defendants of violating Section 75 of the Urban and Regional Planning Law of Lagos State 2010 as well as Section 222 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011.

They were arraigned on April 19, 2016, but they pleaded ‘not guilty’.

The prosecution subsequently opened its case, called witnesses and tendered documents to prove the allegations against the defendants.

At the resumed hearing of the matter today Taiwo who is a volunteer guest worker in the Church, said that the Church has not failed at anytime to carry out this obligations, towards the dependants of the deceased.

The witness, led by Olalekan Ojo SAN, in his evidence in Chief, told Justice Lateef Lawal-Akapo, that he arrived at the collapsed building at about 12noon, before the incident occurred.

Narrating his experience on the day of the collapsed building, the witness who said his duties were to see to the feeding, accommodation and welfare said he was at the dinning on ground floor preparing for guests' lunch when he heard a thundering sound with a kind of horizontal light line moving across the walls.

He said he was unconcious and was only rescued a day after the incident, adding that he felt burning sensation on his back and when he opened his eyes, the environment was dark.

He also stated that he never saw any crack in any part of the building while attending to guests on the other floors

Consequently Justice Lawal-Akapo, adjourned the case till January 25, for continuation of trial.

Delta Deputy Speaker, Osanebi wins as Supreme Court nullifies lower court judgments

At last, Rt. Hon. Friday Osanebi has been vindicated as the Delta State Deputy Speaker.

Delivering the judgment today, the Supreme Court Panel led by the CJN, Justice Walter Onnoghen, jettisoned the position of the lower courts, saying that the Deputy Speaker, has no case whatsoever to answer as the court nullified the judgment of the other courts.

Speaking to news men in Abuja, immediately after the court session, lead counsel to the Deputy Speaker Mr. Joe Agi, SAN, said : “ the Supreme Court has just delivered judgement in favour of Rt. Hon. Friday Osanebi. Delta State Deputy Speaker.

The Apex court ruled that both the trial court judgment and the court of appeal judgment are all nulled in view of section 285 subsection 12, of the forth alteration to the constitution of the federation”.

“The implication of that is that there’s no judgment against the Deputy Speaker”, Abi added.

Reacting to the ruling, Osanebi said: “ I thank God for his love and faithfulness. Truly I can say without all contradiction that the judiciary is the last hope of the ordinary man. I thank the judiciary, and I am most grateful to the Ndokwa East people for their prayer, support and kind words, while this tussle lasted”

Osanebi added that by the grace of God, Ndokwa East is in safe hands, and there is no way darkness and lies can rule over truth.

“ I thank my Governor, Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa, our party, the PDP and my friends and associates for their kind support also“

“Ndokwa East is in safe hands, and the dominion of light over darkness is always instant and unquestionable. No matter the manipulation, truth can never be carpeted”; Osanebi added, in enthusiasm.

Politics / Fake Group Stage Protest At EFCC Against Senator Akpabio by femioyewale: 6:47pm On Jan 15, 2019
Fake group stage protest at EFCC against Senator Akpabio

Following the sponsored protest staged last Monday by a civil right group at the zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Wuse 2, Abuja, against former Akwa-Ibom governor, Godswill Akpabio and demeaning allegations leveled against him were mere sabotage and sponsored a campaign of calumny.
It has been discovered that the mounting support from different quarters for Akpabio and his adopted APC candidate, Nisma Ekere is a strong defeatist approach by the sitting governor, Emmanuel Udom of PDP. This is coming on the hills of Akpabio changing camp from the PDP to APC with a strong and still growing numbers of supporters in his trail.
The protest and the allegation leveled against Senator Godswill Akpabio was described as blatant lies and a campaign of calumny orchestrated by the group to pull down the senator, so as to stop him from winning the state to the opposition party in the forthcoming general election.
Little wonder, Gov. Udom feeling jittery about an intending loss at the poll in a few months. Therefore, he has been using every strategy and orchestrated plans to truncate and demobilized Akpabio and party’s moving train. But the Senator remains undaunted and unshaken by the false and fallacious allegations by Gov. Udom and his cohorts under the aegis of these baseless and unfounded by this civil right group.
With information at our disposal, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is yet to take any plausible decision against Senate Akpabio purportedly believing that it shouldn’t be now that the election is fast approaching that they would now come up with these false allegations.
Even at the live broadcast interview with President Buhari, he declared that he had never interfered in the activities of the anti-graft agencies, EFCC or ICPC on probing anybody including Akpabio. With the civil right group listed properties in the petition as belonging to Akpabio, there are no concrete pieces of evidence to support their claim and allegation; even previous petitions had been withdrawn by their originators because of lack of evidence.
This is not the first time Senator Akpabio has been going to EFCC to respond to petitions against him since he left office as governor four years ago. The protest by the group and the petitioners were pursuing a ‘political vendetta’.
According to the senator in a recent interview stated that ‘I went to the EFCC personally to ensure that I answered to the petition and I answered them. I am the most investigated former governor in Nigeria. Go to anywhere in the world; I don’t have a single house that I could sell, whether in the United Kingdom or Dubai. I m one of the few Nigerians who doesn't operate any foreign account. And I challenge anyone from anywhere in Nigeria to prove me wrong. So, forget about the contrived negative story that you heard about Godswill Akpabio.’
It was gathered that at the end of the protest which was allegedly ignored by the anti-graft agency, was said to have ended with disagreement as protesters were spotted at the front of Wuse Central Mosque, fighting over money as the leader of the faceless group as he was said to have shortchanged other members of the group as against the agree sharing formula.
Even it was said the sponsored protest was hurriedly put together by a top member of federal executive council in person of minister of transportation Mr. Rotimi Amaechi who is believed to be scary of Akpabio growing popularity in the South-South and this might have an effect on Amaechi’s established leadership role and authority in the entire south-south region; such that this leadership role will not be consumed by Akpabio in the final analysis.

Politics / ATIKU ABUBAKAR And The Audacity Of Hope by femioyewale: 12:00pm On Jan 03, 2019
ATIKU ABUBAKAR and the audacity of Hope

‘’The trouble with Nigeria is simply and squarely a failure of leadership, there is nothing basically wrong with the Nigerian character, there is nothing wrong with Nigerian land or climate or water or air or anything else’’_
Prof. Chinua Achebe.

Nigeria’s near inchoate democracy in spite of almost nineteen years of the fourth republic typifies the piquant cliché “the sweet and sour.” Our chequered history is riveting, No gainsaying, the sour tastes of unfulfilled promises, failed governance and a defunct change agenda outstrips the expected “sweet” dividends of democracy. So far in our annals and at fifty-eight years of independence, our sign-post can best be described as a moribund ‘work in progress.” Ironically, our country’s pride of place amongst the comity of nations in Africa can never be over emphasized. The signification of Nigeria’s status within the African continent be it in her population, one out of every five African is a Nigerian. We are rich in abundant repository of natural resources as well as a relatively urbane and upwardly mobile intellectually capable citizenry with a mammoth global reach.
Painful as it is with the litany of our national inadequacies, one can best be pacified by the undeniable fact that we are expected as a nation to be a leading force in building strong states, veritable democratic institutions, enduring and modern economies. In the sight of our sorry impasse and persistent clamor for a national rebirth is the profound question, when will our leaders navigate our pathetic history out of the maelstrom? Is it the wrenching poverty besetting majority of the people, the primordial ethnic creeds that instigate dichotomy and finally the wracking vortex of corruption which has decimated the very fabric of our existence? Even the alternation from civilian to military rule and vice versa in our quest for a better Nigeria did not yield the anticipated beacon of light that ought to have illuminated our trajectory to greatness.
Perhaps the most tragic of issues bedeviling our nation is the consistent lethargy and failure to attain our full economic potentials, the attenuated democratic dividends and a nefarious political class. We have a nation which merely thrives on the brinks of our potentials rather than forging enduring monuments that will make Nigeria great. we breed a votary of recalcitrant ethnic sentiments and religious bigots that limit and enervate our capacity to build a great country. It is disconcerting to say the labyrinth we have descended showcases our self-deceits, greed and dissonance. The grand larceny, perfidy and trickle-down effect associated with our political leaders is such that voters for a morsel of cake and a mess of pottage sell their birthrights through the permanent voter’s card. Like Dele Giwa of blessed memory once wrote “Nigeria a nation where nothing works”- Newswatch magazine. 1985. The man will obviously die a second time given the opportunity to witness the level of our decadence thirty-three years after.
When you ponder at the indefensible agitations that our political leaders canvass in national discourses and the tapestry of our political life, they have inordinately intruded in our common senses by promoting their selfish whims and caprices to becloud any reasonable sense of patriotism. It is evident that in this guise our spirit of nationalism becomes seemingly distorted, we seek for things that divides us as against the unifiers. Our yardsticks of success and accomplishments as a nation is measured thereafter in warped antiquated indices mainly because the political class is consumed with an indefeasible satanic agenda to subjugate the rest of us right down to the fourth generation.
We seek for fluent and lucid paths in our trajectory to a better Nigeria because our confidences in the present A.P.C. led government has irredeemably waned. The social contract necessitated by the dubious political slogan “Change’’ merely created an anachronism in tune with the party’s name “Apathy Pandemonium Corruption.” President Barrack Obama did say “if the people cannot trust their government to do the job for which it exists, to protect them and to promote their common welfare, then all is lost” The 2019 elections will assuage our yearnings, a watershed and an opportunity for stock taking. It will be a time for veritable choices far removed from the diatribe and narcissist posturing of the ruling A.P.C. Late eminent author and critic Prof. Chinua Achebe captured it succinctly that “the Nigerian problem is the willingness or inability of its leaders to rise to the responsibility to challenge personal examples which are the hallmark of leadership” painfully begging issues ranging from unbridled penchant for sectional political appointees, the former SGF Babachir lawal debacle, the ikoyi gate $43m loot, the Ogoni clean-up and a host of others. Contrary to the much vaunted position of President Buhari’s anti-corruption mantra is a disingenuous attitude akin to what late Dim Emeka Ojukwu surmised as a case of “selective amnesia” in the mindset of the President such issues are mere figment of our imaginations.

We are mindful to the shenanigans of the A.P.C led government and the devious “change mantra” needless to say, the change we aspire for is ostensibly in the eradication of “the poverty of the mind” so that we can vote in a leader that understands the intersection of realistic policies and playing politics leveraged on well thought out economic blueprints and guided by social justice driven on a focused leadership with the ability and vision to harness men and women of similitude in enlightenment, integrity and uncommon patriotism . I daresay that our hopes are rekindled and I am persuaded to prognosticate that we are weary but not subdued neither will the pontifications of the A.P.C. hoodwink well-meaning Nigerians. Our expectations inclines to the inevitability of a new era that will ultimately dispel the raging storms of conflicts across the country from the brigandage of the Fulani herdsmen to the Boko haram insurgency, spates of kidnapping and abductions etc. Come February 2019, we will through the ballot box call forth a new leadership with clarity of purpose that will meet the lofty yearnings of the common man .Indeed, an Atiku Abubakar Presidency will birth an era of rising tides of prosperity and quicken the still waters of much desired peace which has eluded some parts of the country.
Nigerians assuredly recognizes the options before us come February 2019, obviously the right choice is an Atiku team[A-Team] at the helm of affairs. Every vote cast for Wazirin Adamawa will be an eloquent repudiation of the A.P.C. government, our votes will mark an epoch as well as monuments for us and generation yet unborn because through the ballot box we will challenge sense of lethargy ,hopelessness, resignations, frustrations and the hypocrisy of an oppressive capricious A.P.C led government . An Atiku Presidency will further defeat the militating factors that impede our journey to a deserved greatness amongst the comity of nations. In deference to President Obama and for our people in the intervening months leading up to the elections, Our votes will proclaim “an end to the petty grievances, lopsided corruption, insurgency, nepotism and false promises, the recriminations and worn out dogmas that for so long have strangled our politics” Alhaji Atiku Abubakar buoyed by the audacity of hope on your imminent emergence as the next civilian President of our beloved country. I make bold to write that your mandate to rule Nigeria come 2019 is a “divine call” merely vested on you in trust and as a caretaker for the masses of Nigeria. It is neither for any emerging cabal nor political mongers even the over patronized elites cannot appropriate undue benefits. It would be in recognition of the “unsung, uncelebrated and anonymous Nigerians. Men and women scattered across the nooks and crannies, from the creeks of the Niger-delta to the slums of Ajegunle, Ogbunabali,Okpoko as far as the hillsides of the mambila, chibok, bakkasi peninsula etc Obscured and unacknowledged in their daily enterprise of toiling to eke out a living, struggling against all odds with an unmatched resilience and ingenuity encouraged by individual industry for survival, in most cases just to put food on the table and merely meet the basic needs of the youth and children.
It is a clarion order and God will judge you harshly if you fail to meet the yearnings of the people, HE has been inestimably benevolent to you in your quantum accomplishments in life, it is payback time. Needless to point out the incumbent fact you will address in tandem with the National Assembly and stakeholders to the project Nigeria the clamor for a restructured federation, bring to an end such unwholesome and shameful enterprise of fuel importation, insecurity, dearth and decay of social infrastructure and most importantly economic degradation. The votes of the people will be a sacred charter, a social contract that will dismantle the pervading parochial interests, nepotism and mediocrity which has been the nemesis to a true egalitarian Nigeria. It is not a tentative inkling but an audacious hope that your emergence as the fifth Executive President in the fourth republic come May 2019 will engender policy thrusts which would erase stale political promises and practices that stagnates our economy, democracy and most times diminishes our stature before the international community. We hope for a vital reengineering which will consign to the dustbin of history those glaring bad habits of our political leaders and further promote realistic templates that will justify our common good . As well as encourage enduring convictions on the supremacy of our country as a “unifying vessel to our providential destinies as Nigerians.

Religion / SCOAN Building Collapse: Why Lagos Govt Must Emulate Akwa Ibom by femioyewale: 10:59am On Dec 17, 2018

Since the unfortunate collapse of the guest house of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) on September 12, 2014, the pain that followed for families of the deceased and senior prophet T.B. Joshua was unimaginable. In a moving tribute in remembrance of the departed martyrs of faith, Prophet Joshua earlier this year stated that “From eternity’s perspective, death is not a period; it is only a comma because of Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection.
"When a believer dies, he goes into glory, where there is no conflict. Heaven is our home. A man may die young yet be satisfied with living but a wicked man is not satisfied even with long life.” It has been four long years but the memory of the righteous is never forgotten.
Sadly, the Lagos State government has only been drawn in a legal battle against the prophet since the unfortunate incident. This should not be so. Prophet Joshua has been using his God-given resources to ensure that the memory of the deceased and the care of the families they left behind are duly catered to.
It will be recalled that a similar incident occurred in Akwa Ibom State following the building collapse of Reigners Bible Church in 2016, leading to many deaths. Despite the loss of human life, the Akwa Ibom State government has only been consistent in providing succour to the presiding pastor of the church and those affected.
The Akwa Ibom State governor, Emmanuel Udom, went a step further by absolving the pastor of the church of any blame. Aside this, the government stood against pressing legal proceedings and instead has been providing financial and moral support for those affected including the pastor.
But the case of Prophet TB Joshua has not been so. Despite his immense contributions to Lagos State and to Nigeria as a whole, he has only received vilifications which should not be. It will be recalled that security camera footage that indicated the orchestrated collapse of the SCOAN building has been admitted in court yet the Lagos State government has not stopped its legal battle. The Lagos government should take a cue from the Akwa Ibom government in being supportive and stop its prolonged fight. A fight against God’s prophet is a fight against the almighty creator himself.
The true Christian is encouraged to believe by the word of God that the journey of the believer only begins here but the goal is Heaven where God lives and has His throne.
In his message, while celebrating the memory of these departed Christians, Prophet Joshua calls for more trust and confidence in Jesus Christ. According to him, “Whether we die young or old, what matters is the grace to continue living hereafter. It is now four years since our beloved brothers and sisters slept in the Lord. We must realise that their death is an unavoidable call – a call to our Heavenly home that no one can disobey.
“Jesus said that if you do not take up your cross and deny yourself daily and perhaps even get killed for your belief in Him, you are not worthy of Him (Matthew 10:38, Matthew 16:24). The level at which satan attacks us seems to be equal to the level of our commitment to the Lord. I don’t think enough people understand this. If you are totally committed to God, He will take up satan’s challenge against you.
“As soon as we make a true conversion, a commitment asking Jesus to purchase us, we become Jesus’ property. Then satan hates us the same way he hates Jesus. That is why the moment we are truly saved, we are engaged in a phenomenal battle (John 15:18-22). We cannot separate warfare from salvation. True salvation is going to put you into direct conflict with satan.
"Many of us would say, “Why should I suffer or die? After all, Jesus won the victory on the Cross and suffered for me?” But the question we need to ask ourselves is, “What did Jesus say?” He said, “I have said unto you, the servant is not greater than his Master. If they have persecuted Me, they will also persecute you” (John 15:20).
“Anyone who claims that he does not have to suffer because Jesus did it for him is indirectly saying that he is greater than his Master. He is actually contradicting what Jesus said. Basically, we need to give up our lives here on earth and gain eternal life in Heaven. When we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour, we are accepting citizenship in Heaven and death here on earth.
“Once Christ purchases us, we become aliens here on earth and there is a barrier between us and everything here on earth. We are servants, we simply obey the command of our Master. We do not decide what suffering we must bear.
“Many people have been serving the Lord fervently and have come into difficult life situations because of being mistreated by either wicked men or carnal Christians. The truth is that they have been treated unjustly. But to become offended would only fulfil the enemy’s purpose of getting them out of the will of God. If you stay free from offence, you will stay in God’s will. If you become offended, you will be taken captive by the enemy to fulfil his own purpose and will.
“If we are Christ’s followers, we must follow His example. If He could forgive the people who were killing Him, we can certainly find a way to forgive those who hurt us. When we cannot forgive, we hurt ourselves more than anyone. Nursing a grudge damages our heart. Life is too short to waste our time on things that have no lasting value or significance.
“From eternity’s perspective, death is not a period; it is only a comma because of Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection. When a believer dies, he goes into glory, where there is no conflict. Heaven is our home. A man may die young yet be satisfied with living but a wicked man is not satisfied even with long life.
“Those who try to kill us are only helping us to go home and rest. But those who send us home will go into further conflict; they will have more questions to answer than when they were alive. The wicked seem to prosper now and live without a care but they will spend eternity in terror and despair.
“How can we honour the memory of the martyrs of faith? Endeavour by the grace of God to live for the Lord and give yourself to the needs of others. Romans 14:8 – “If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.” What a blessed memorial!”
The government and people of Akwa Ibom has shown a template of temperance which the Lagos State government should.
