1. If you are easily moved by what people say or think, you will never make it in business no matter how hard you try because so many people will always see something bad about you or your product no matter how good the quality is especially when you are just starting. Most of them expect you to convince them and until you do, they will never buy from you because people don’t just buy product, they buy conviction. So it is your convincing power that determines who you sell to. And the first person to convince about your product is yourself. Once you are convinced, others will SOON start buying into it. Remember SOON. Not AUTOMATIC as most people might expect.

2. Give quality products and services: In as much as people don’t just buy quality but conviction at first time, it’s your quality of products and services that will keep them coming back to patronize you. If you succeed in convincing someone to buy your bad product at first time, I promise you that you have lost that customer forever which will make you lose more future customers. Your best advertiser is your satisfied customer. When one customer is satisfied, be rest assured he will connect you to other customers who will connect you to other customers who goes on to connect you to other customers. The chain keeps going until you start offering bad products and services. But as far as you keep improving in your product and services, you will never lack customers.

3. Don’t expect everybody to buy your product at your first meeting with them but believe that they will buy eventually: Rejection has its way of discouraging people but for entrepreneurs, rejection fires up your passion to persist. They understand that persistence will always wear out resistance. When your product is rejected, that doesn’t mean it is a bad product, it simply means that they have not seen enough reason why they should buy from you. You have to understand that, people don’t buy things logically; they buy emotionally and justify it logically. When you succeed to penetrate into their emotions, they will buy more than you ever expected.

4. Outside selling your product, establish a relationship with your prospect: The first thing to do as a salesman is to establish a relationship with your prospect whether he buys from you at first meeting or not. It’s your relationship that will always open the door for you. Most salespeople make the mistake of trying hard to sell their products while neglecting their relationship with the person. If you don’t establish a relationship with the person, he will always give you an excuse while he can’t see you nor buy your product.

5. Work Hard on developing yourself and your sales skills: Marketing is a skill that you must learn if you really want to succeed. No matter how small scale you think your business is, you still need a marketing skill to succeed. Like I earlier said, People don’t just buy product, they buy conviction. They won’t just buy from you because you are nice or have a good product, they will buy from you if you are able to convince them. And to convince someone to keep buying your product, you need a marketing skill. It is one thing you must keep working on if you really what to succeed as a businessperson. Brian Tracy told a young Author who wanted him to help him improve in writing, he said, “I will teach you to be the best-selling Author, not the best writing Author”. It’s the selling that determines your take home. So invest time in learning how to be a good marketer.

6. Don’t expect it to be easy: If it is easy, then it is children’s game which has no prize attached to it. Anything of good prize has a price you most pay. Don’t expect too soon success, rather expect constant growth. It requires growth to attain permanent success. The more you go to the field and practice, the more you perfect your skill, and the more you perfect your skills, the more increase you experience in your business. There are stages of learning;
i. Stage of “UNCONSCIOUS INCOMPETENT’: at this stage, you don’t know that you don’t know. You operate on assumption. This is the stage where most should-have-been-Entrepreneurs fail. When you assumed that people will buy your product because it’s a nice product but they didn’t buy, that betrayed conviction is enough to throw you out of business because since you are living in assumption, you might be forced to assume that you are doing the wrong business, whereas your limitation is your unconscious incompetent; what you don’t know that you don’t know. If at this time, you discovered that there’s something you don’t know, that will take you to the next level called ‘CONSCIOUS INCOMPETENT”
ii. At the stage of “CONSCIOUS INCOMPETENT”, you now know that you don’t know, so at this stage, you are no longer living on assumption. Since you can’t just assume that people will buy your product because it’s a nice one, you then start searching for what makes people buy, as you are doing so, you start discovering the things which will make people buy your product. As you start to know those things, you need to be reminded of them from time to time so you start being conscious of them. At this level, you are said to be “CONSCIOUS COMPETENT.
iii. Now that you know those skills, but you have not mastered them, you keep working on them every day. You see yourself, failing it once in a while, but you can’t quit because you can see some improvement. If you keep improving without quitting, a day will come that your mastery of the skill will be so automatic that you don’t need to think of what to say to a prospect to market anything.
iv. This stage of mastery is called “UNCONSCIOUS COMPETENT”: At this stage, you can sell any product to anybody. It is a stage by stage process. Until you go through one stage, you can never move to the next stage.
People want to be rich, but they do not want to start small. If you really want to be rich, you must be comfortable with starting small. And the best way to be rich is starting your own business and even if you already have a business, don’t limit yourself to one line of business. I want to introduce you to one lucrative business.
