PoliticsDimeji Bankole: Really Highhanded? by femy001(op): 6:07pm On Jun 16, 2010
A case of finesse in the face of chaos. Bankole's eloquence seems alien in a House where chaos always rules proceedings; such that a group in the House labeled him corrupt and highhanded. But video history has shown the man's manner of approach to hot issues, and his reactions to his colleagues when things could have gone out of hand

HealthRe: Free Tuberculosis Drugs Diverted To Other Nations Because Of Tax by femy001: 11:31am On Aug 04, 2009
This is one of the stories that flies all around in an attempt to malign the personality of the Minister and the administration of President Yar'Adua. THe first question is; did you confirm this allegation before writing it? Where is the source of the information. I think we should be careful about what we write because we are looking for relevance or popularity in this country. We should write things that will portray us in the right perspective before the international community.
HealthRe: Swine Flue Re-surfaces by femy001: 1:08pm On Jul 14, 2009
I think the writer of this piece in misinformed about the capacity and facilities that Nigerian government has put in place to checkmate the Swine flu through the Ministry of Health headed by a technocrat this time around. It may interest you to know that the WHO rated Nigeria as one of the countries with adequate facility to tackle the scourge. The Laboratory facility at the Asokoro General Hospital was adjudged recently by WHO as meeting the standard and we have qualified personnel to handle the disease in the case eventuality. So, there is no need to entertain any fear, since we thank God we don't have any reported cases yet. Let us all ensure that we live a clean and healthy life that will prevent contamination with Swine flu. Nigeria will survive
HealthRe: Why Doctors Go On Strike by femy001: 1:50pm On Jun 24, 2009
Hello MacM, I read your comment on the above subject very funny. Your tone seem like someone who has an axe to grind with the Minister of Health. I agree that the doctors deserves a better pay. I also want you to know that all Nigeria's problem including that of the health sector would not be solved in one day. It need patience and understanding from all Nigerians. They way you cast aspersions on the persons of the Minister is not fair. It is borne out of sentiments and hatred. All the allegations you raised cannot substantiated. And you forget that all these money you mention didn't come directly to the NACA. They were grant and the granting agency or body is the one that disburses such funds. He performed well to the extent that he won an award. I want you to know that he has the pedigree to be a health minister that is why he was appointed and he has so far performed beyond average. Mr MacM, lets face the main issue and avoid character assassination which will not help us. The problem in the health sector today was not the creation of the minister. He has at different fora stated the preparedness of the government to address the decay in the health sector including wages and allowance for the personnel. The government is a process and so, the NMA should exercise patients after all, the expiration of the deadline for implementation of the agreement reached is still July 15th, 2009. The minister is a man of integrity, charisma and noble character who if given the chance would make his mark in the health sector.
HealthRe: Beware! Swine Flu Is The Latest Health Problem by femy001: 2:49pm On Apr 29, 2009
Horus, let me allay your fear now that we don,t have it already in Nigeria. And I want to believe that authorities in Nigeria are on top of the situation. So, we can at least for now heave a sigh of relief. More so, we all need to take all precautionary measures against it as it has been released by the Health Ministry. Prevention is better than cure! Lovers of imported pork meat BEWARE!
HealthRe: Beware! Swine Flu Is The Latest Health Problem by femy001: 10:35am On Apr 29, 2009
Oge4real, I don't agree with you that the health ministry will not be able to challenge the scourge if it enters Nigeria. This time around we have technocrat who knows his onion heading the ministry and he has at different fora stated the modalities put in place to tackle the problem Enough of this pessimism and mentality of negativity and let's support him. We as citizens too have a lot to do by being careful of our lifestyles. The health issue is the concern of all Nigerians. We the add the steps preventive measures taken already we are hopeful that it will definitely be challenged and tackled.

Though, thank God that it has not reached Nigeria yet. What should be the news and the concern of Nigerians about the outbreak is whether our government is prepared to curtail the spread of the epidemic to Nigeria. I can categorically say yes. The Minister of Health in collaboration with all major stakeholders has risen to the challenges by putting all modalities in motion to arrest the situation. The following have been put in place:
*adequate qualified health personnel to diagnose and screen any suspecting patient of the disease
* Provision of necessary diagnostic equipments
*Establishment of world -class diagnostic laboratory with sophisticated equipment at Asokoro Hospital to tackle the problem
*Effective collaboration with agencies like WHO, UNDP, UNICEF, DFID, USAID, FAO, and other NGOs to map out plan for arresting outbreak in Nigeria
*All seaports and airports are to be on the alert against immigrants from Mexico where the disease broke out.
*All land borders are also to be manned with the eagle of the security agencies against illegal immigrants to avoid transmission of the disease to Nigeria
*Establishment of inter-ministerial committee to collaborate on the epidemic-Ministries of Health, Agric, and Aviation.
*Establishment of special crisis centre to manage the problem

All these are steps in the right direction. We also should adhere to the alert on the mode of transmission and prevention of the disease. Let’s be on the alert and warn ourselves this time around.
