the difference is that Minato doesn't have large chakra reserve so he found it difficult just like the way Kakashi was finding it difficult after say 3 uses of the MS but since he was given the kyuubi's chakra by Naruto, he started transporting large things as seen in the case of hachibi....so it's logical to assume he can at least transport a large part of the body of the juubi. . . .
