Till students are taught that going to school isn't meant for you to graduate and get a good paying job but to find your inner self and create opportunity for yourself in an economy like Nigeria then most graduate will always be lost after graduation. Graduate and get a job is a borrowed maxim from advanced planned economies like the Western countries where in a place like US with 50 states, you have an average of at least 100 companies worth a billion dollar per state but in a place like Nigeria with two thirds of US population we don't even have up to a total of 20 companies worth a billion dollars nationwide with just few mid scale companies but hundreds of thousands of graduates are produced every year with mindset of getting jobs after graduation. From where?
Gen Z is the most connected generation yet spiritually, many feel disconnected. More and more young people are saying: "I’m not religious." But why?
Let’s unpack it ;
1. Church Hurt & Hypocrisy Gen Z questions what doesn’t align. When leaders preach love but practice judgment, they bounce. They're not leaving God,they're leaving the noise.
2. Information Overload Gen Z grew up Googling everything. They’ve seen different beliefs side-by-side and they ask deeper questions. Blind faith doesn’t work for a generation raised to research.
3. Mental Health Matters They care about emotional safety. If a religious space triggers shame more than healing, they won’t stay. They want faith that listens, not just lectures.
4. Authenticity Over Tradition Gen Z doesn’t care about appearances,they crave realness. If faith feels scripted or outdated, they’d rather pass.
5. Spiritual but Not Religious Many aren’t atheist,they just don’t vibe with the labels. They pray. They believe. But they want a personal relationship, not just performance.
So is Gen Z faithless? No. They’re just tired of performative religion. They’re seeking real connection with God, with meaning, with truth.
Maybe the church doesn’t need to be louder. Maybe it needs to be more honest. More human. More healing.
What’s your take? Is Gen Z really unreligious or just reshaping what faith looks like?
Nothing but easily available information woke up a Generation, you can't easily psychologically brainwash children from toddler to teenage years as it used to be in other generations, you tell them, they Google it immediately and come up with a contrary opinion, they ask why, how, you started being confused, talking from both sides of the mouth, now they know you are shitting them. That privilege wasn't available in other generations

lamentor78: Honestly I can see that Nigerians have lost their sanity especially those on Nairaland. Just come to think of it, Tinubu is out of government does it change anything, will Atiku or Obi reversed the pump price and pay subsidy and reduce state allocations, will they give naira muscle to fight dollars, will they increase our external reserves, will they stop banditry and insurgent, we dey revamp the economy on 4 years to attract foreign direct investments.
I wonder why we Nigerians are mentally disabled. Thinking that Tinubu is our enemy
You are just not informed at all. For saying all these confirms you don't know anything at all about economics especially economics of a Nation. The credibility , the trust and the faith your citizens and the international community have of your country's Leadership is the biggest influencer of the direction your country's economy is moving before anything else but Tinubu doesn't have any of that
