You've lived your whole life (presumably) amongst Nigerians. You don't need to start looking for Nigerians in Canada.
I'm not saying stay away from them but i'd advise you to remove that Naija click thingy from your mind.
Go to most schools in the US and you see our Nigerian students stick to themselves like glue. It is okay to a certain extent but it can be very -ve as well.
You will tend to stick closer to Nigerians rather than mixing with people from all ethnicities. The best thing you could do is to be very open and diverse.
That white dude/girl that you ignored all in the name of looking for naija friends might be the son of a potential employer!! Think about it.
If you miss Naija so much, there is always summer hols na.

Did u pay your fees earlier? cos i havn't.my agency asked me to wait until d embassy for a receipt of payment b4 i pay.they also had issues wit the school i earlier applied for n d spaces reserved for all der students was given out including mine(i hv d option of stil payin der fees and gettin on a waiting list). jst last wk they reapplied to 2 oda schools (schools dey represent).they assured me i'll definitly get the admission bt now i'm wondering if dt isn't affecting the visa(dey said it wont).i dont kno wat to do anymore. if i had known d process even took dis long,i wouldn't hav started anythin.i'm already out frm d uk school i was going for wen i decided to do canada.ANYONE WITH USEFUL ADVICE PLS?

Tnx Dear,sad to hear u are stil on d wait list since our medicals was jus a day apart. I must confess dat dis hole waitin game is not funny @ all. Hav u tried paying dem a visit since den? I suggest u do if u havent, instead of waitin 4 dem agents to do evrytin 4 u. I feel they(d agents) might jus be a bit laid-back about d hole issue since it dosent directly affect dem. GOOD LUCK

I'll be moving over to Saskatoon,SK soon on a student visa. I'll like to get in in touch wit any Nigerian staying there or anywhere around, say, Regina, Calgary, Edmonton etc. I can imagine how boring life in a strange land can be especially in the first few weeks or months. so I jus nid people to be in touch wit and at least feel at home.

@ Delta, tnx 4 d contact. I called Moji dis mornin but she said she was not at the ofice, so I'll call her up again later today. My final destination is Saskatoon. I will like to know the cheapest route to get there. I called KLM resevation dis mornin n they said I was going to pay abt 420 k ( to me dats an outrageous amount) for Lagos - montreal - Saskatoon route, but i'm tinking of comin in tru Toronto, Halifax or better still Calgary since its closer Saskatoon(and then use an alternative transportation from there).

Congrats. Make sure you go buy your ticket real fast. Flights out of LAgos to Canada are usually booked solid in August. BA, KLM, AirFrance, etc are valid airlines. I have a good travel agent I could recommend but there are lots in Lagos. Make sure you are booked thru Europe, not thru the US otherwise you'd need a US visa. Again, congrats and best wishes in your future waka.

Its been 2 weeks and 4 days since I had my medicals and there's still no visa in sight. Not dat I'm so anxious abt it but its just dat I got a better job recently and they nid to see my original documents b4 I resume which r all with CDHC. I have a 1 month period to write an acceptance letter and show my credentials. Funny enuf the 1 month acceptance period expires next week. It will be soo painful if they send back my docs back late(causing me to loose d job) only to tel me one sad story. I'm sooo confused rite nw. just dunno wat to do

i finally went to the embassy again today though it was a tug of war but i made sure i summitted it after delays for several hours. i even met hamzatafee at the embassy whose application has been delayed for close to five months. we discuss at length and helped ourselves out. this forum is connecting lives, kudos to dat
to sophy09. if the agent paid any money to the school you have to send the school a debit reference or telex to confirm your payment thru an email address as an evidence of payment. please verify and act accordingly. the Lord will help you and be careful next time.

@ globalpaul, were u the guy wit some sort of semi-afro hairstyle I met 'raking' the security guards at CDHC on monday. If YES, den bravo. There was a tall lady I also met @ d gate signin in 2 probably go lodge a complaint, I'm beginning to guess dat was hamzatafee ( I wonder y i fink she's a lady? ? ?)

I finally did my medicals today, called the clinic to confirm my appiontment n learnt i was booked for monday , not tuesday.

@ ofueby n wonderbud, D 3 weeks wait btw medicals and interview/visa is jus an estimate. Sometimes it could be shorter or much longer. Since school is resuming sept i guess u shld jus chill a little to see if they'll get back 2 u. By next week, u may then pay dem a visit (my tots tho)

I think the CDHC are bunch of thieves collecting huge sum of money from agencies that submit student visa application on behalf of their clients

This is because applicant that had gone through these agents fall into the 95% of category being asked to go for medicals and subsequently being given VISA thus neglecting other genuine students who dont have "ghana must go" kind of money to offer agencies

@fidelo and toni, imagine i went to embassy to update my application with sales invoice and receipt, statement of account ending june but i was advised not to drop it. the security told me that if they need them, they will contact me cos there is no way they could merge my previous application with the new one because they av more than 5thousand application at head, so they get to by turn-viewing my previous application which i sent on june 1st but could not include the invoice and receipt and the bank statement ended march 24 cos my sponsor was not around and i had to meet up with the deadline.
should i just wait still the consulate's response or go post it by courier?
i am so happy for the gudnews we are receiving this days from the Almighty CDHC, i know i will be called for medicals too.

@ globalpaul, i cant believe u're just submitting dat stuff, i remember a bunch of us on dis thread telling u to go submit the docs as soon as u gat dem some weeks ago.
Secondly, a security guard has noo right watsoever to tell u wat to submit or not. Dont forget u paid a processing fee so its ur right for them to see watever document u feel should help to decide ur case positively.
Remember telling u guys dat I got a scholarship letter from my school recently, I was there early dis week to submit dat to them and all they asked for was my tracking no (which I gave dem) b4 collecting the letter so ur docs can ALWAYS be merged. Even if they have 1 million applications,all dose people paid application fees.
Dont just wait for the consulate's response because u can guess wat it will be with outdated account statements. Courier it to dem or better still, take a trip down there, its only a stone throw away from Ibadan

@hamzatafee, we've previously advised u to pay those guys a visit, have u done dat? I remember even suggesting weekly visits til they tel u sth definite. Ur story is very similar to Aydewale's, take time to go thru dis thread and u'll surely get some tips. Good Luck.

Hi All, I have a story very similar to wonderbud's.

I was on way out of town yesterday when my mum called that a DHL postman brought a mail meant for me to her office(cos i decided to use her address for easy reach). I immediately made a U-turn and sped straight to her office to discover it was from CDHC instructing me to go for medicals, I was awed , because i just submitted my application like 15 working days ago.
I've been making out theories why the almighty CDHC is suddenly tryin to be 'nice' to me , and 'Na God' is all I can imagine.
I booked an appointment wit the V/I clinic same yday for sometime next week

@Those who have already gone for their medicals, i'll be glad if u post anythin u think I should know before goin for the medicals

Get in to North America first, defer your admission,work for some years and re enroll to any school of your choice but make certain that you enter through student visa.

Ah! 4 months is a long time o. about 80 working days I think. For dem to hold it for dat long means u have a gud chance(i guess). Wen is ur school starting? Probably Fall (sept). Dats may also be anoda reason y they are taking their time. But if the wait continues keep payin them a visit - like once a week - till they give u a definite reply.

I just received a scholarship letter from my school this afternoon. Couldnt believe my luck. Taught I deserved one but it wasn't approved as at the time I was admitted. I think my personal statement and PRAYERS worked the magic (or  better still miracle)

Pls do not misconstrue me . The guys in CDHC are not angels . They look at some parameters before taking their decision, You need not have N5m in your bank account before you convince them even though having such amount is not a bad idea.the most important thing is for you to prove the source of your funding to be genuine

We are both saying the same thing. My point is even if u have N100m in ur account make sure its genuine and not some sort of 'window-dresssing' (i'm in luv with this word)

I want to assume you must have applied to one of the school racist schools in Canada.e.g Mcgill university. This is because i see no reason why embassy why CHDC should say you are not a bonafide student having been given admission letter and letter of acceptance

Moreso, part of the mistake you this-You shouldnt have left N300,000 in your own personal bank account. You dad could have transferrred some funds say N5m out of his account to you bank account for window dressing, at least to convince embassy


You claimed that you intend to come back to manage you dad`s business. Is your proposed course of study directly related to your father`s business?

All these and many more ought to be been looked into before applying

Also, transferring funds to his accont for 'window dressing'( funny term,wer did u coin dat from?) is not a gud idea,it breeds suspicion. Would he be able to prove the source. Ahh! If u ever did dat,prepare for a barrage of questions,oh!.

If he has 5m in his account, i wonder wat his sponsor would then have?

Ur best bet is be straightforard and pray 4 the best.

CDHC just refused me. reasons, i dont hav enuf funds, i wont return 2 naija n nt a bonafide student. even wit about N3.5million and other readily available funds. and a leave letter 4m my employer. honestly i dont knw wat dey want again

I'm beginin to assume wat CDHC means by not a bonafide student is dat u jus want to use a student visa as an avenue to run away frm 9ja. apart from dat I see no reason while someone with an authentic addmission letter wouuld be labelled as not being bonafide.
Like someone mentioned
1. is wat u're goin 2 study related to ur popsy's poultry bizness
2. How much is the amt 4 ur course(tiution + other expenses) and how mny other dependents does ur dad have. Dependin on wat these are 3.5m may not have been enuf 4 dem
And its a pity decisios cant be appealed.
