Its 2006 camry, 2AZ (2.4). How about changing these parts 'crankshaft and bearing', will that solve the problem? Because for now, the price of engine is too high to afford.

Oil light issue: after my engine knocked and crackshaft and metal, 4 x pisting and rings, 2 x camp shaft replaced. The oil light always come up whenever the engine is on. But when you truttle it, the oil light goes of. I have change the oil switch and the oil pump, but this problem persist.
I still notice some noise from the engine when the car is being tuttled.

Please what could be reponsible for these??

I think special equipment will also be required in addition to the OEM paint to make it perfect on the car. I think when you get that done, with time you will make a futune from it.

I have this issue that has been brodering me for some time now. That had made me to come up with this question 'when do you consider a car engine a Write Off'. Me as a person who has no deep knowledge about the workerbility of car engine and functions of most of the parts. I believe that when an engine go bad it won't be in its entirety, so the parts that goes bad can easily be change and the car come on road again. I have a car engine that got knocked some time last year, precisingly 2.4 Camry. Before it got knock, the red oil light came up but I didn't pay attention to it, when the car finally knock, I was asked to buy all the damaged parts which I did but after all said and done the oil light is still on. I took the car to another mechanic who strip the whole engine and still couple it back, the oil light still on. The block engine, I was told by both mechanic that its ok, the crackshaft, piston and rigs are all new. Now mechanics are telling me to buy a new engine but within me, I feel since the block engine and other major parts are ok, the error could just be from mechanics. Please, expert in the house advise me on the way to go.

Today makes it exactly a year that i had an overheating issue with my V4 2007 Camry.
I normally had checked all vitals a night before getting on the highway, did a double check of the water in the radiator same morning before cranking on the cold engine. Christmas chills in the air and i couldn't wait to enjoy a new mix i had just gotten fresh from the DJ who played at an Owambe i attended that same weekend. I was ready to take on the expressway and tear off the tracks with my 18" wheels .

Less than 1hr, 45mins into my trip, while speeding at about 130km on the Ile-ife, in Gbongan to be precise, i noticed a thick white smoke come out of the bonnet. Before i could scream J-E-S-U-S and park, the steering wheel went stiff on me. I simply just dragged and dragged on till i reached for help from a road side mechanic who helped to drag the car to his workshop some few meters ahead. Made a few calls and was told the engine and passed on into the afterlife of terrible Overheating. Poor me, i entirely forgot to check my temperature the entire time

2 nights passed in an unknown town, almost 100k spent on trying to get a new Gasket and all sorts, my ears filled with complaints of how crazy the 2AZ-FE engine was, how naive i was not to have filled the radiator with water before i traveled. Tears almost fell down my eyes.... a waiting boy and his mom hoping for me to get to back to Lagos on the 22nd as promised and have a Christmas blast. Alas, life had it own plans.

Guess roadside Kazeem's are the worst! After 2 nights of eating mai-shai(hausa's indomie, egg and tea), money thrown down the drain, bug-filled hotel, i summoned the courage to drag the lifeless cold vehicle down to Lagos with a towing van, it's entire engine laid out in the boot like a bowl of fresh meat, and dumped it at a mechanic close-by. Christmas plans went down the drain! I was just indoor and never saw the color of the sky till the 2nd of January '16. Through the year, i coped with no AC, loud sounds and vibrations from the Engine, engine smoking away 20w-50 total oil like it was weed and all sorts i have had to endure.

You literately could mix Akamu and milk by just pouring your milk on your Akamu in a bowl and placing it on the vehicle .
If only i had mustered the strength to change my engine before Change happened, but then work took me out of town for almost 6months.
Saved up spare cash and rang up Gazzuzz, about replacing the engine at all cost, the 0's i had come at me, sent shivers down my spine . With the wicked smile smacked across his face, baba, wouldn't even be moved by my pleas to reconsider and get a downward review on the cost of a solid engine and workmanship.

Thankfully, we reached a compromise, life had a good smile at me and last week Thursday, the vehicle was wheeled in into the bay....................Fast forward to yesterday, i kid you not, when the car was cleaned up and i drove out, i had never had any better drive on any other car before. The cold air from the AC slapping my face and my engine ready to Rev and blow out, i headed back to the office, packed my bags and headed straight for 3MB at around 11pm. Took my engine on a 140-160 (save minor alignment and balancing issues i have to sort out), i felt joy in my heart as i did a 3mins25secs on the bridge beating my personal best of 3:59 .


Not only is my car ALMOST silent..(like you would literally stand and hear nothing but the fan or the small leak from the exhaust), there are ZERO vibrations. I feel like moonwalking. Your competence is out of this world Gazzuzz. If only you could add Merc to your list of cars... so i can be guaranteed of not having to change my Technician as long as i live in Nigeria. Thank you for saving my troubles. Bae and Son can now sleep easy when they decide to drive with me in the car.

Yeah for people staying in ikorodu i would recomend Gbenga at Yeye Oge Auto center/Carwash along that ogijo road...Stopped there to wash my car and found out they do auto stuffs there...I complained to him on how my camry was behaving and he test drove it then told me what was wrong, after he fixed it he has since then being my mechanic cos it wasn't a guess work...You could give him a trial has what i feel makes his work easier is he is educated and a graduate.

I had a knocked engine some months back, the mechanic that fix it didn't get it right as the engine oil light keep show which was before the engine knock. Now another mechanic is telling me that he can fix it, that he is going to change the block engine and some other things in the engine. My doubt is that can he get it perfect, work normal and last long, without making me frequenting mechanic garage. The opinion of mechanics in the house and those that had same experience in the past will be appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

Had a 2007 Civic that crashed it's valves. Timing chain slipped. Pistons smashed into valves (you know, interference engine, bla bla bla).

Bent 8 out of 16 valves. Damaged piston rings. Would not even crank AT ALL (expectedly).

Engine was rebuilt and she moved again.

Just saying... You might want to try an engine rebuild. Find a very good Mech. Most Mechs are not capable of rebuilding an engine, hence they quickly suggest changing it once presented with the challenge.

Again, I don't know what's wrong with your engine, don't know its history, or what efforts you might have put in already up till this point.

Just saying its worth the try. They'll tell you it's NOT worth it - that you should replace it - mainly because they can't do it and get it right.

Google "Honda Accord 2008 V6 engine rebuild." Interesting info available to show you that it is, indeed, possible (and cheaper).

I am facing same problem, my camry has been down for some time now. The first mechanic that touched it got it very wrong. I am aware of possibility of rebuilding the engine but how do I find a mechanic that will get it right. Can you suggest a mechanic??

Those cars they ship to Africa are useless because it's has a salvaged rebuilt title and cars with salvaged title are damaged cars which was severely damaged and the insurance company pays off the owner, once the insurance company pays the owner, they dump those cars at the boneyard, the auction sites will go there and start selling those cars and shipping them out of the USA to Africa

No one in the USA will buy those cars, or even pay more than $300 to buy it

A salvaged title 2010 Range Rover will not be above $1000

Those cars are way cheaper on Craigslist too
