Driving against traffic is a very common trend from Mangoro to Dopemu under bridge every evening(Mon-Fri). Many drivers wouldn't want to be in traffic gridlock for hours when they can drive against traffic and get to their destination in minutes. Unfortunately, the police have turned this into everyday source of cash. They catch you, you pay and go. It's like paying toll every evening to some drivers. If you were driving from Ikeja towards Iyana Ipaja and you live on the other side of the road at Mangoro or Cement bus stop, it then means you would have to endure then traffic hold up every evening from Mangoro to Dopemu/Akowonjo roundabout before turning towards Ikeja and getting to your side of cement/mangoro busstops to get home. While iI'm not making a case for improper driving, if you can endure this kind of torture for a month, by the next month, the temptation to drive against traffic would grow more and more inside you. Someone above mentioned countries where things work. I agree with you. In such countries too, there would be provisions for people driving from Ikeja towards iyana ipaja but who live on the other side of the road from Mangoro to Cement bus stops. This stretch of the road is almost 2km and you must climb Dopemu bridge before you can turn around to get home. Believe me, driving home everyday in such circumstances will drive you nuts. |
