I lived in the UK, my income (salary) tax plus Council tax was over 40% of my salary every month.

So, if I went to a hospital that was free in the UK, it meant the government was subsidising the hospital?. Absolutely not. It simply meant I had paid for the 'free' hospital through the very high tax I was paying.

You say people pay taxes in Nigeria, hence the government should provide subsidised services. Which tax really.

My tax in Nigeria is ...erm, less than 2% of my income (tax people please no come harass me o - you people don't demand for tax ). Yet, you want the government to wave a magic wand and provide Nigerian citizens with a fabulous subsidised lifestyle.

Some of the richest countries in the world have some of the highest income taxes in the world.

Personal income tax in Japan, Finland, Austria etc are around 50%. In Sweden, it is 52%. In Ivory Coast, the most organised country in West Africa, personal income tax is over 60%, the highest in the world. So you can see there is some correlation between high government tax revenue and development. Will Nigerians agree to pay 40% of their total monthly income in tax?

And remember many of those developed countries have been collecting taxes from their citizens for over 200 years which they have used to build their country.

Yet, in 2025, the vast majority of Nigerians still pay zero tax, yet you want to compare Nigeria to those countries.

As for electricity, I get up to 22 hours a day consistently, and I am not even in Zone A, or whatever they call it. While it is safe to say my experience is not replicated across the country, there clearly appears to be manifest improvement in many areas, and I hope with time, every part of the country will share in that experience.

how much is minimum wage as relative to those countries mentioned? Nigerian has the lowest minimum wage in the world and there is a reason for that because of subsidy and low cost of doing business things.

If we look at the negative impact on subsidy removal compared that to zero benefits any right thinking leader would have retraced it steps.
