A man is currently standing trial at Sabo Magistrate’s Court, for allegedly beating up his landlord and attacking a policeman, tearing his singlet which the prosecution said cost N90, 000.

The defendant, Mr. Akinsola Ajayi, 32, was arraigned on five counts of assault and malicious damage.

When the case was called up in court, the prosecution could not read the charge sheet clearly and after several failed attempts, the Magistrate, Mrs. Bola Folarin-Williams, halted the proceeding in anger.

She said, “Who are you reading the charge sheet to? Is it to the court or the accused person? Are you strange to this court? You don’t know how to read the charge sheet or what?”

Folarin-Williams subsequently adjourned the case until April 23 and Ajayi was returned to detention.

The charge sheet, which our correspondent obtained, reads in part, “That you, Akinsola Ajayi on the December 5, 2012 at about 10.30pm at 13 Adebolu Street Bariga in the Lagos Magisterial district, did conduct yourself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by unlawfully disorganising the peaceful environment o fthe Street and throwing out bucket, property of one Ibrahim Olusesi and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 166 (d) of criminal law of Lagos State.”

Two gunmen in Akwa Ibom State shot a middle-aged woman, Mrs. Elizabeth Obio, and abducted her two-year-old son.

The incident occurred around 6:07pm on Thursday along Ikot Obio Nko in Ibesikpo/Asutan Local Government.






Obo, who is presently hospitalised in the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, is seeking the assistance of security operatives and public-spirited individuals to help rescue her son.

She told source that the little boy, who was her third child, would be three years in September.

She said the men who attacked her came on a motorbike and began dragging the boy with her and because she refused to let go of the boy, one of the men brought out a gun and shot her at the back.

She said, “We came back from the farm on Thursday evening and wanted to go to the stream with my husband. My third child (the boy) insisted he must come with us.

Initially, I was reluctant to let her follow us, but because he was crying seriously, the father said we should take him.

“When we got to a hilly area where the motorcycle we were riding could not continue, my husband dropped us and asked us to move towards the stream where he would meet us.

The operatives, acting on a tip off, were said to have raced to the area around 4am and intercepted a Volkswagen Golf, primed with explosives, which some terrorists had wanted to use and wreck havoc during the Easter celebration in the city.

Residents of the area said the soldiers thereafter invaded a compound housing the suspected terrorists but were greeted with explosions.They added that the operatives who were not deterred exchanged gunfire with the terrorists for about four hours.

The spokesperson of JTF in Kano, Ikedi Iweha, was quoted as saying that the task force killed 14 Boko Haram suspects in the raid.

One of the residents said it was unclear if most of the terrorists were killed by the Improvised Explosive Devices detonated by them or by the operatives.
