ADAMS COUNTY, PA - It's standard operating procedure for prom-goers to share dozens of photos following their big night.

A Pennsylvania High School is kicking up all kinds of controversy, however, in asking for photos of student long prom dresses 'before' the big dance.

Beginning this month Delone Catholic High School in Adams County began a new policy requiring female students to bring in a photo of their prom dress for pre-approval.

School administrators are defending the policy, saying it is necessary to uphold Catholic values and moral integrity.

Students have a different view of the photo requirement, saying it isn't fair for those who have already spend hundreds on dresses that either won't be approved, or will require expensive alterations to meet the dance dress code."They spend so much time picking out the dress of their dream a fantasy dress if you will," said dress shop owner Simone Hostetter, who is altering many of the dresses already purchased by female students.

That's precisely the point, says Delone Catholic principal Dr. Maureen Thiec, who says students have had plenty of notice and time to either buy or change a dress to meet the new standards. "That's a big expense to be turned away at the door and we are trying to eliminate that difficulty."

All the money from the wedding sale will help fund Goodwill's Workforce Service programs, which help people in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties get back to work.

Prom night is meant to be a fun night, but the bill can add up quickly.

One young woman took that into her own hands Saturday by hosting a free prom dress giveaway.

Amaris Hawkins started collecting gently used cheap petite prom dresses a few weeks ago.

The number of donations was up to about 150.

On Saturday, Hawkins says about 30 girls came to pick out a free dress at Covenant Life Cathedral.

She says paying for a dress, hair and makeup on top of college application fees and senior dues could rob girls out of their chance to attend prom.
"I wanted to create an opportunity for young girls to have one less worry their senior year, so we decided to do a dress drive to offset the cost for senior prom," Hawkins said.

Hawkins says no one walked out of the dress drive empty-handed.

She plans to schedule another dress drive in the near future to give away the leftover dresses.
