S'up with software engineering. I was thinking of doing something to help myself and it sounded attractive to me, given the rate at which we are going digital. What d'ya all think?

I think we all misunderstand you in this thread. Most of your posts are factual. I look forward to your contributions.

You've really been around the block. I was never really a fan of auto cad. I used to think it was just for other engineering fields. But seeing your work has given me a re think. Thanks for the sharing. I think i speak for the house.

I just finished my exams. I've not visited this thread for some time now. @ajanlekoko I'm always inspired with your words. Your willingness to share your experience is truly amazing. Thanks for making this thread a success.

I think everybody on this thread will agree with you that the Nigerian educational system is in shambles, but haba! How can EE not be relevant?
PS: No allow your child open TV o! Ever heard of residual magnetism. Enough to kill a man

@ajanlekoko
NSE is so full of crap. They came to my school offering student membership with an annual due of over 1k. I wonder what a student stands to gain. Probably another one of the revenue generation tactics you talked about.

@netotse
I admire your resolve for power. Most people are not fans of power but your morale is unaffected i hope. My very best wishes.
EducationRe: F.U.T MINNA STUDENTS: How Far? by FiremanJr(op): 10:29pm On Apr 15, 2009
That depends on the level you're opting for. 200 or 300. Which course. Are you coming in with Ijmb or diploma?

EducationRe: When Afrihub Came Into Fut Minna, They Promised Heaven And Earth. They Promised To Provide The Schoo by FiremanJr(m): 2:01am On Apr 14, 2009
Afrihub is just a project that made a select few millionaires and left us with insufficient and half dead systems. My phone is 10 times faster than afrihub,
The 60 hours they issue is just a facade. Most student dont even use up to 5 hours. Since this semester begun I've never gone their and found a free system. They are always occupied. How do they expect just a little above 50 systems to serve the multitude of students. Afrihub is a failed project.
PS, I've started a thread on fut minna students. Care to join in?

I agree totally with you that there is a huge gap btw what is taught in schools and what is required. Are you a HR personel?
CareerRe: Electrical Engineering: Aspirants and Practitioners by FiremanJr(op): 7:42pm On Apr 11, 2009
Hey everybody! What do you guys think about going abroad for masters. I was thinking of going under the PTDF scholarship. But I was going through their lists of courses and i didn't really find much under electrical engr. Let the house know what you think. Adiose

how's it hanging at shiroro? Did u ask after the guy oyb talked about?
CareerRe: Engineers And Prospective Engineers, Some information Needed About This Field by FiremanJr(m): 6:04pm On Apr 10, 2009
Biological engineering. Oh boy! I can only help with electrical engr. View my thread. There's a lot there
CareerRe: Electrical Engineering: Aspirants and Practitioners by FiremanJr(op): 1:37pm On Apr 10, 2009
@oyb
wow! that's a whole lot of experience with power. The stuff about the CTs exploding is scary.
CareerRe: Electrical Engineering: Aspirants and Practitioners by FiremanJr(op): 4:57pm On Apr 09, 2009
I still believe power is an attractive field. Just like accountants are needed almost everywhere, power engrs are also needed. It's just not as sexy as telecoms.
CareerRe: Electrical Engineering: Aspirants and Practitioners by FiremanJr(op): 7:36am On Apr 09, 2009
@venturesc
Elect engr is not about fixing radios. Though i admit that an elect student should know about trouble shooting. But this is 9ja my guy. Only those who seek for that Kind of knowledge outside the school environment get it.
@netotse
I think you're the only person on this thread that loves power. If i may ask the house, what is it that scares people off power?
CareerRe: Electrical Engineering: Aspirants and Practitioners by FiremanJr(op): 5:05pm On Apr 08, 2009
@ajanlekoko
The fact that elect engr is lucrative was one of the motivating factors. But i've always been amazed as to how much can be achieved with very little components. Back then my dad wanted me study medicine. I've not decided what field i'd like to go into but there's still time. I'll probably decide next year during my IT.

CareerRe: Electrical Engineering: Aspirants and Practitioners by FiremanJr(op): 10:00am On Apr 08, 2009
This feud between oyb and becomrrich is getting out of hand. Lets focus on the topic. We should start ignoring irrelevant comments.
CareerRe: Electrical Engineering: Aspirants and Practitioners by FiremanJr(op): 4:03am On Apr 08, 2009
@becomrrich
Why are you so pessimistic about everything?
CareerRe: Electrical Engineering: Aspirants and Practitioners by FiremanJr(op): 3:25pm On Apr 06, 2009
@oyb
It seems ajanlekoko has some competition now. I'm glad you're here. From what i read, you're specialised in electrical networks and power. One thing that still bothers me though. I wonder if any of the things we study in school will be relevant in the workplace. Everybody is going into ICT certifications and i wonder which of them is best of elect/comp students.

i must say that u've become a full fledged career doctor. it seems you never run out of advice.
CareerRe: Electrical Engineering: Aspirants and Practitioners by FiremanJr(op): 2:47pm On Mar 31, 2009
@ ajanle. You're really the kind of person i had in mind when i started this thread. Your bank of experience can change lives. Keep up the good work. To my fellow nairalanders with 2.2 grades and below: I personally do not believe in the hiring rule most companies adopt. I believe companies that ask for nothing less than 2.1 are limiting themselves. My elder brother graduated with a 2.2 and he is better than most of the 2.1 and 1 holders i've known. Am not saying a 2.1 is worthless cuz if you think of it, how else can companies screen the multitude of job seekers. I am presently in first class and i know a few first class holders. They all strike me as very boring people who neglect a lot of extra curricular activities that aid personality development. So all you need is a chance to prove to people what you are made of, just like our humble career doctor did. Lol
