Despite the fact that the world around us is full of ungodliness & sin multiplying, you can still have a godly home built on the Rock.
It all begins with you as a person knowing the Lord through genuine repentance & faith in Christ's sacrifice at Calvary. That means you must be born anew to have Christ reign in your home. This should be followed by the evidence of the new life which is freedom from sin, presence of God in your life, love for God & man, obedience to God's word, love for spiritual things, & departure from anything that God does not approve of.
Your friends, neighbours & all those who knew you before will notice the difference that Christ makes in your life.

Having encountered Christ this way, you need to grow up in the faith by continually abiding in Christ, studying the bible, regular prayer life, fellowshipping with God's children always & sharing your faith with others.

If you've not been married before, you'll have to pray to God to lead you to the person He has chosen for you. If you're married, you will have to live the christian life to draw your spouse too to the Lord if he/she has not been saved yet.

The christian home is a place of love, peace, godliness, dependence on God & selflessness.
No nagging, no cheating on one another, no strife or disagreement because Jesus rules in every heart. Children are taught in the way of the Lord & they don't follow the path of waywardness.

Is your home a christian home? If yes, thank God for you. If not, you can invite Jesus into your heart & home today!

Materials needed are

1. Tapaulin used as backing
2. Fabric cut in 4" wide strips as long as possible
3. Matching thread
4. Sewing machine
5. Scissors

Fold the tapaulin into 4 & cut out circle as big as you want your rug to be

Mark circle lines on your tapaulin to guide you in stitching your pleated or gathered fabric to your backing material(tapaulin)

Sew your pleated & overlocked fabric onto the backing

You can use plain or patterned fabric or a combination.
All these steps are shown in the pictures above.

The first person to post the photo of his/her finished rug may get a surprise gift.

Alright. I quite understand you better. You can get your fiber for stuffing your pillow at Mushin if you stay in Lagos. Wherever you stay, just enquire for where to buy it so you can quickly complete that project & move forward. Thanks.

Pup, Bunny & Bear Cuddlers

Size: About 10“ from head to toe.

Materials:
* For each toy: 3/8 yard 45“ wide animal skin fabric.
* Scraps of pink velour for bunny's tummy
* Scraps of felt for eyes, nose, teeth(bunny) and tongue
* Matching sewing thread
* Embrodery floss(black) for mouth
* 1/2 yard satin ribbon
* Polyester fiberfill stuffing
* (Optiona)Small bell
* Fabric glue

Patterns:
Transfer patterns to tracing paper & cut out, adding 1/2” to all edges for seam allowance. Do not add to felt pieces.
For head, follow solid line for pup & bear & broken line for bunny.
Cut out fabric pieces. Also cut 3" diameter animal skin fabric circle for muzzle and for bear's & bunny tail.

Stitching
Turn under seam allowance and applique tummy to front.
Sew running stitches around bunny's & bear's tail pieces 1/4” from edge, draw up to form pouch, stuff, and sew to body back.
For pup's tail, stitch pieces together, right sides facing, leaving straight end to body back.
Turn under 1/4“ around muzzle & applique to face, stuffing as you go.
Stack & glue eye pieces together.
Embroider white French knot to centre. Glue eyes to face. Following photograph for placement, applique nose to muzzle and embroider mouth in outline stitch.
Glue tongue to bear & pup; cut two 1/2” square white felt teeth & glue to bunny.
For bear's & pup's ears, stitch matching ear pieces together, leaving edge X open. For bunny's ears stitch fronts to backs, leaving edge X open, then pleat edge X slightly on ear front. Turn all ears & pad lightly. Place ears on body front, matching raw edges to raw edges of head between dots for bear, X's for bunny, and Z's for pup & pin. Stitch body pieces together, ears sandwiched between, leaving opening on one side. Turn & stuff. Close opening. Tie bow around neck & sew on bell if desired.

The first picture is a display of some Bag accessories. The wine colour roll is 1” belt. On top of it is 1” plastic adjusters. The pink roll behind it is piping. The black 2“ accessory to the right of the piping is velcro. The pile of black & blue accessory next to it is zip cloth. We also have eyelet, rivets, zip heads, rings, buckle and decorative bag closures on the table.

The next picture is a display of various leather bag materials. Most of them are sold for N450/yd

The 3rd picture contains 2 colors of plain taffeta bag material. They're sold for N230/yd.

To answer your query, elsy5, though you didn't state which of the projects we've covered so far you need materials names & prices for, I'm assuming you're referring to the first one, which is our souvenir bag. I'm giving a list of some bag materials with their current prices. We normally buy bag materials here in Lagos at Mushin market.
I'll post some pictures too, showing some bag materials & accessories.

Bag Accessories.

Velcro- Used as closure for bags. Comes in different widths. 1“ width sold at N12/yard & N1200 for a roll of 100 yards. Black is cheaper. N10/yd & N800 or N900/roll.

Magnetic Snap- Used as closure. Around N150/dozen

Zip Head- used together with zip cloth as closure. Price per doz depends on the size you're buying. Size 5 is N50/doz

Zip Cloth- used together with zip head as closure. Price/yd depends on size. Size 5 is N12/yd

Adjuster- Used to adjust or vary the length of bag handles. Price/doz depends on size. 1” adjuster is sold for around N50/doz

Rings- used together with hooks to attach handles to bags

Belt- used as ready-made handles for bags especially souvenir bags. They come in different widths. 1” belt is N12/yd. Black is around N10/yd

Taping- used to bind raw edges of bags to neaten them. Around N10/yd.

Eyelet/Grommet- used to make neat/decorative holes on bags. They come in different sizes

Rivet- a short metal pin with a flat head used to fasten flat pieces of bag parts together.

Bag feet- attached to the bottom of bags so the bag doesn't sit directly on the floor.

Buckle- a metal or plastic attached to one end of a belt or strap to fasten it.

Piping- a plastic or other substance made in the shape of a pipe or tube & sewn around bags or bag parts to enhance the shape.

Key holder- attached to zip heads to be used as handles for small bags or purses.

Ready-made Handles- sewn directly on bags. No cutting & sewing necessary.

Hi, everyone. Hope you're trying your hands on the tutorials we've had so far? I'm yet to see any picture of your works here though.

Today, we're looking at how to make handmade centre rugs. Here are some examples of my personal works. Some of them I've sold out.

Let's look at how to make the Circle-pleated Rug. It's very simple to make & here we completed it with matching designer pillows. We used two colours here. Brown & Cream.

Materials
1. 1 or 2 yards tapaulin material for backing. It's also called flex.
2. 10 to 12 yards of any fabric of your choice.
3. Matching thread.

Procedure

1. Cut a circle as large as you want your rug to be from your tapaulin or flex material. You should fold your flex into four & mark an arch from the centre point & cut out your circle.
2. With a pencil, draw circles of lines on the circle backing. Your circles should be spaced 1 inch apart. These lines will guide you when stitching your fabric strips to your backing material later.
3. Cut your fabric into long strips 4 inches wide. Your strips can be as long as possible.
4. Fold your fabric strips into two length-wise and press.
5. Pleat or gather your fabric strips on your sewing machine.
6. Overlock or whip the raw edges of your pleated or gathered fabric strips to neaten them.
7. Hem or bind the edge of your circle backing material.
8. Beginning from the outermost circle pencil marking, stitch your pleated fabric strip to your backing material. Overlap fabric strips neatly on each other while stitching to hide the ends of the strips.
9. Sew your fabric strip to the innermost circle next & continue to alternate between outermost & innermost as you work until you've stitched the last circle.
10. Make a rossette & stitch to the centre to cover the innermost circle.
11. Your rug is done.

Enjoy your new rug in any room.

Make your rug & post the picture for us all to see & enjoy. You can use plain or patterned fabric & combine as you please.

When you want to go into any business that will be enduring, the place to start is to do some introspection- look inwards for where your strength lies. Your strength is a combination of your talents, skills and experience. A business built on your strength makes you unbeatable because no two people are exactly alike. There's something unique to you that sets you apart. You will be difficult to compete with in your own territory.
Once you discover your strength, you should do some market research to see what the market wants & then package your strength into a product or service tallying with what the market wants.
The fact that someone is doing well in a business does not mean you too will if it is not your area.

I learnt this from personal experience.
In 2007, I went into a particular lucrative business where I also someone who was doing very well in.
After a little while, I discovered that the business did not match my personality. I was even ashamed to tell people the business I was into. I reduced my visits my business location & left my employee to it.
Needless to say, the business failed.
Today, the business I do tallies with my talents and personality & I'm not ashamed of it.
You don't have to learn from your own mistakes- learn from others'.

The bag we made in our last class has nothing to do with gum o! Some of you who have heard or had the experience of ankara bags, where they use gum should not confuse that with what we're doing here!
This is a sewing class and those of you who can't sew should go & learn how to sew & get a sewing machine immediately. Is that understood? Good!


Okay. To today's tutorial.

Today, we are going to make a very beautiful & special throw pillow called PETAL PILLOW.
We may still sew some more bags later but I need to get my pictures ready so you guys can see & understand the steps involved.

Here we go:

How To Make A Petal Pillow

Size: About 16" in diameter.
Materials: Scraps of printed cotton fabric(we used 8 different small floral print for petals and a solid colour in centre)
18" square cotton print for backing
Polyester fiberfill stuffing
1/2 yard 36" wide unbleached muslin for liner
Matching sewing thread.
Procedure
Enlarge patterns. Cut out, adding 1/2" seam allowance all around to both pieces. Following broken lines on petal pattern, cut a pattern for petal lining, adding 1/2" seam allowance. Cut two petals of each print if using 8 different prints, or cut 16 petals as desired. Cut a 5 3/4" diameter solid colour fabric circle for centre. From muslin cut 16 petal linings and one 5" diameter circle lining. From print cut backing piece.
Run a basting thread around a petal seam, drawing up thread until piece is same size as a lining piece. With wrong sides together stitch petal to lining, leaving 2" opening for stuffing. Stuff softly so that printed side puffs up and lining is flat. Stitch opening closed on all petals. Make 15 more petals and centre circle in same manner.
With right sides facing, stitch 2 petals together along adjacent long sides. Stitch 3rd petal to 2nd, then 4th to 3rd and so on until 16 petals are joined. Stitch remaining edge of 16th petal 1st to form ring. Stitch ring to centre circle. Trim seams.
With right sides facing, stitch backing to pillow front, leaving opening for turning. Turn and stuff. Blindstitch opening.

To make the blue souvenir bag, you'll need:

1. Any bag material of your choice
2. A patterned material for the middle panel
3. 21/2 yards 1“ Belt for handles
4. Matching thread

Procedure

There are different bag sizes so the measurements can be altered.
1. From your bag material, cut 2 rectangles measuring 14“x12“. One piece is for the front while the other is for the back. 14“ is the width while 12“ is the length

2. Cut one long strip measuring 5“ x 40“ from the patterned material. This will form the middle panel.

3. Cut 2 pieces of handles from your 1“ belt measuring 26“ each.

Making Of The Bag

1.Thread your machine with matching thread colour
2. Fold half inch in at the top of your front & back pieces & hem
3. Hem the two ends of your middle panel. Note that you are using only one panel strip for your bag.
4. Sew one handle each to the front & back pieces at a convenient positions on the front & back pieces.
5. With the remaining belt, cover the ends of the handles on the front & back pieces with another belt piece & sew on to the pieces.
6. Sew the front piece & middle panel together, using the middle panel to cover the raw edges of the front piece. The middle panel runs through the two sides & bottom of the front piece.
7. Sew the back piece to the other side of the middle panel just like you've done with the front piece.

Voila! You're done. You've just made a new sewing machine creation to use by yourself or sell.

So many clients are out there needing someone to make these bags in large numbers for their coming events or company promotions. You're in for a new money-making venture.
