AN ANCIENT princess who lived around the same time as Christ has been found with a huge treasure trove of gold worth millions of pounds.The grave of the ancient Scythian woman was discovered by archaeologists in modern-day Crimea.
She lived in the First Century AD at the same time as Christ, Russian scientists say.In the grave was a stunning laurel wreath of eight gold leaves.
Russian politician Ruslan Balbek said: “Some decorations in the form of a laurel wreath, golden amphoras and rings are unique in their characteristics.
“They are fascinating in their novelty.”
For the afterlife, she was adorned with gold jewellery and nearby were found two gold rings, one with a glass gem.
Two gold eye plates were also found, but archaeologists are perplexed as they were found on her chest.
Normally Scythian burials include several human remains but the woman’s high status in the ancient society on the Black Peninsula is shown by the fact she was found alone.
