The refusal of Atiku Abubakar, to cut off his Presidential ambition midstream resulted in his political Nunc dimittis, which was delivered by the Nigerian electorates in February 2019 and recently upheld by the Supreme Court.

From the onset, Atiku’s greed and lack of integrity made him a flawed and weak contender to the Nigerian Presidency. Whether in 2019 or 2023, the truth remains that an opposition built around Atiku is like a structure built on sinking sand. Anyone, who has constructed a building knows how crucial the foundation is. If the base of the building is not straight and solid, the entire structure is in jeopardy. A crooked Atiku was never a solid political ground to erect a structure, hence the fall.

If while climbing a tree you insist on going beyond the top, the earth will be waiting for you. This was the summary of Atiku’s checkered political history. Even the best dancer on the stage must retire sometime. However much it rains on you, no wild banana tree will grow on your head. No matter how many times Atiku runs for Nigerian President, he is bound to fail.

Atiku has been knocked down and pushed to the ground. I was, however, shocked to see Nigerians, who for years kicked and called fellow citizens unprintable names like "Fulani slaves" at ease with a possible bid for 2023 presidency by Atiku Abubakar, a Fulani. What these Nigerians don’t understand is that they are the real slaves who are happy to sell their birthright.

If a blind man says he will throw a stone at you, he probably has his foot on one. Apparently, Atiku is still nursing the ambition to run for president in 2023 because he sees Igbos as a vanquished people and believes that they will be too scared to present a credible presidential candidate for the 2023 elections under the PDP.

There are no shortcuts to the top of the palm tree. Atiku was a shortcut, a terribly-crooked-short shortcut that could not take Igbos and Nigeria to the top of the palm tree. The cries of marginalization by Igbos will not end if they sell their birthright to Atiku in 2023. And to imagine that Atiku will run for Nigerian Presidency again? Tufiakwa!

If one has access to a professional wine-tapper, one should not use water as breakfast. We have professional wine-tappers across Nigerian and in Igbo land that we should say Tufiakwa to the suggestion that we should use contaminated-dirty water for breakfast come 2023.

If you think you have someone eating out of your hands, it is a good idea to count your fingers. I strongly believe that PDP is eating out of the fingers of the electorate in the southeast that presently constitutes its base. The Igbos in the PDP whose fingers were bitten off should be courageous and say Tufiakwa to Atiku’s candidacy in 2023. He is a fool whose sheep run away twice.

Atiku Abubakar is a broken nail. If you are building a house and a nail breaks, do you stop building or do you change the nail?

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be attained only by someone who is detached. For Igbos in the PDP to take their rightful place at the top of the ticket in the 2023 Presidential election, they must start detaching themselves from the spell of Atiku Abubakar. The nail for the 2023 reconstruction project for PDP should be selected from the southeast.

I may not be a political heavyweight or a leader of any of the apolitical social-cultural Igbo group but I have words of wisdom that I hope will liberate Igbo people from the Atikulated political cocoon: you have been cheated once, don’t be used again.

Per Rose Wynters, no woman could love a cheater and not pay the price for it. The plot to present Atiku again in 2023 in the price the Igbos in PDP may pay for not vehemently rejecting the neglect of the entire rank of the party leaders in the selection of the vice-presidential candidate in 2019.

Igbos should not be that beautiful lady who gave her heart to a man who loved her, who wanted to be with her, but, who ultimately was afraid of all she offered. The PDP should never be afraid of what a presidential candidate of Igbo extraction could offer Nigerians under their platform.

Should the PDP fail to zone their 2023 presidential candidate to the South-East, the Igbos should simply quit the party. No crying. The cheating should be seen simply as the key left in the mailbox. Should the PDP fail to zone the 2023 Presidential ticket to the Igbos, they should just move on to a new home, a new political platform, preferably the All Progressive Congress. There, they should build and nurture a political platform that will cater to the economic and infrastructural needs of Igbos.

If the chicken's egg cracks the palm kernel, the grinding stone is put to shame. The chicken’s eggs and the money bags that have been jumping around, buying presidential tickets should not be allowed to crack the palm kernel, again, in 2023. Igbos are the grinding stone in the PDP and should never be put to shame, again. Tufiakwa!

Finally, I want to remind the Igbos in PDP that it is only a medicine man that gets rich by sleeping and that the growing millet does not fear the sun. Ahmed Bola Tinubu is not sleeping. He has been moving around, flexing his political muscles, building political alliances, undaunted by the challenges he will face in his bid to secure the APC presidential ticket in 2023. The Igbos in PDP should, thus, stop sleeping. Igbos in the PDP should not out of fear of losing in 2023 go to sleep.

Igbos in the PDP cannot regain relevance by selling their birthright to Atiku or anyone else for that matter. So, now that Atiku’s ship has completely submerged, an Igbo giant should emerge and carry the flag of the People’s Democratic Party in the 2023 presidential race.

The Imo State Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Ladodo, on Thursday, paraded 14 pregnant teenagers, who were arrested in an illegal home in Abia State.

Parading the pregnant teenagers, the police chief said they were kept at the home for child trafficking.

Ladodo said the teenagers were being impregnated in the home and upon delivery, the babies were would be sold to waiting buyers.

He stated, “On November 5, 2019, based on a tip-off that one Blessing Sunday, a steward at the Mma Charity Home at Umumkpee village in the Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area of Abia State, had lured a pregnant mother of twins to Abia State, where a caesarean section was performed on her and her babies stolen and sold, the owner of the centre, Mrs Mma Achumba, hurriedly returned her to their village in Okwe-Owerre, Umueze 11 of the Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State while bleeding.

“This angered the youth of the community, who descended on Blessing and were about to set her and her family house ablaze when a team of police officers raced to the scene, rescued her from the youth and rushed her to hospital for treatment, while the victim, Grace Onuwa, was rushed to the Police Clinic, Owerri, where she was admitted for treatment.

“Days after her discharge from the clinic, the victim led the scorpion team to Umumkpee village in Isiala Ngwa South LGA, Abia State, in search of the babies and the owner of the centre, Mrs Mma Achumba, where a total of 14 pregnant teenagers and four children were rescued.

“A breakdown of the rescued teenagers shows that four are from Ngor Okpala LGA of Imo State; two from Mbiabong in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State; while the other eight are from Obingwa/Isiala Ngwa and Bende LGAs of Abia State.

“The victims were kept at the centre waiting for the time they would be deliver of their babies and the owner of the home would pay them money ranging from N300,000 to N350,000, depending on the sex.

“It is worthy to note that these teenagers are kept there without the knowledge and consent of their parents. The director of the centre, Mrs Achumba, and her staff are still at large, while efforts are on to trace and arrest members of the syndicate

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief Jackson Ojo, has advised the South to forget their dream of producing the President of Nigeria in 2023, saying at the expiration of his tenure, President Muhammadu Buhari would handover to another northerner.

Ojo stated this yesterday in Abuja in a chat with our correspondents. The APC chieftain while counselling the South to build a common front ahead of the next election cycle noted that South lacks the capacity to politically engage the North in a battle of supremacy.


In his words, politicians of South-West extraction currently agitating to replace President Buhari in 2023 lack the visibility and national acceptance to make good their dream saying, “who is there in the South that has the national clout? There are some people in the South-West that are making noise today, wanting to be President.

“The truth is that they cannot be President. That is it! Mark my word! APC Presidential candidate in 2023 will emerge from the north. The South-West will be given the Vice Presidential slot. And if the PDP takes its candidate from the South, then they have given the opportunity to the APC to win again. The south does not have the political capacity to fight the North.”

Justifying his reason for rating the south so poorly, Ojo, who doubled as Coordinator, Yoruba Youth Alliance added that the north has since left the south behind in terms of togetherness and unity; factors he claimed would determine who gets the Presidency in 2023


He continued: “The people of the South are agitating to be President of Nigeria in 2023. Is it by mere verbal expression? The North has 19 states including the FCT. The South has 17. There is no political synergy between the South-East, South-South and South-West. Each of them is standing independently as a pillar that cannot be moved but when you go up north, you will always get the traditional bloc vote because there is a unifying factor among them.

“Religion can unify them and they have leaders that can unify them. In the north, you have the Northern Governors Forum, the Northern Senators Forum and all that. Do we have these unifiers in the South? South-South is standing on its own, same with South-East and South-West. In the South, there is a multi-dimensional dichotomy, politically that is. Such a dichotomy can never be found in the North.

“Let us not deceive ourselves. What is the voting capacity of the North? The voting capacity of the South-South and the South-East cannot withstand the voting capacity of Kano, Katsina and Kebbi states.”

There are agitation by Southern politicians, particularly from the South-West and South-East for the zoning of the APC Presidential ticket at the expiration of President Buhari’s second tenure in 2023, with the likes of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and Tunde Bakare being seen as likely aspirants.

The federal government has earmarked over N4 billion for total reconstruction of the dilapidated Kano-Gwarzo-Dayi road, which had been neglected for a long time.

The senator representing Kano North, Senator Barau Jibrin-Maliya, who disclosed this in an interview with The Nation in Kano on Sunday, expressed concerns over the deplorable condition of the road, which links Kano with Katsina, Sokoto, Zamfara and Kebbi states as well as the neighbouring Niger Republic.

Jibrin-Maliya, who is the chairman Senate committee on Appropriation, said all arrangements had been concluded for immediate take-off of the reconstruction of the 70km road with initial release of N2 billion.

According to him: “I have been engaging the Federal Government over the deteriorating condition of that important road adding that in the first quarter of 2020, the contract for the project will commence.”

He added the bill for the road project is before the National Assembly and as such N2 billion would be provided for the award of the contract.

He said the road, which suffered neglect for too long, when completed would boost social and economic activities of communities living along the the road and also the states that are linked to Kano state.

The road, which had not witnessed any major rehabilitation since it was constructed by the administration of former Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida, when completed, would reduce the number of accidents that are being recorded almost on daily basis.

The Imo Government has dissociated itself from an ultimatum from a group giving herdsmen in the state 24 hours to vacate the state.

In a press statement issued on Monday in Owerri, Mr Chibuike Onyeukwu, the Chief Press Secretary to Gov. Emeka Ihedioha, stated that the group, operating under the aegis of Coalition of South East Youth Leaders, lacked legitimacy to speak for the state.

The statement described the reported ultimatum as “an embarrassment to the government and people of the state” and urged members of the public to disregard it.

It further stated that the group gave the warning, following an alarm raised by the managemenet of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri over relorted damage to their farms by animals allegedly owned by herdsmen.

“The attention of the Government of Imo has been drawn to a report on some news media, credited to a group, which identified itself as Coalition of South East Youth Leaders, giving herdsmen in the state 24 hours to quit.

“The group, led by one Goodluck Ibem, relied on an alarm allegedly raised by the management of the university, accusing herdsmen of destroying their farm lands and crops, among other concerns.

“The government of Imo, under the leadership of Ihedioha, hereby dissociates itself and entire good people of the state from the said ultimatum.

“Imo government is embarrassed by the development and has taken steps to prevent a breakdown of law and order in the state,” the release stated.

Onyeukwu stated that while efforts were on to ensure that the concern raised by the management of the university was addressed, the state government “shall not tolerate a situation where individuals take the laws into their hands.

“For the avoidance of doubt, citizens of Imo are very peaceful, hospitable and have always enjoyed cordial relationship with neighbours and strangers in the state


He urged the general public to disregard the report and go about their normal businesses without fear of molestation.
