You can mention you were volunteering, interning, developing yourselves in other area (taking online courses, learning other skills). As long as you portray yourself as someone that was actively developing, you should be fine.

I got a conditional offer stating I need to explain the study gap between 2009 when I finished sec shld and 2013 when I got admission. I used those periods to hustle
