Obassnjo said he made the discovery while conducting a research for his degree in Christian Theology.
He spoke while delivering the 2017 Foundation Day Public Lecture entitled: ‘Corruption and the Challenges of the African Child’, to mark the 14th anniversary of Dorcas Oke Hope Alive Initiative (DOHAL) held at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan
The former military Head of State pointed out that abject poverty arising from Nigeria’s corrupt system led to the “formation of kick against western education otherwise known as Boko Haram.”
He added, “One of the reasons that members of the extremist group – Boko Haram, gave for their insurrection is that they became disillusioned when they saw how corrupt that Western educated leaders were.
“According to them, if those who occupied government offices by virtue of their Western education would corruptly enrich themselves and deprive others of the basic things of life, then that education is ‘haram’ which means forbidden.
“I am told that when Mohammed Yusuf, the original leader of Boko Haram and his early followers first started, they all gathered and tore their certificates because they said a certificate, which could not fetch them a source of livelihood is useless to them. Similarly, they saw Western education as corrupting the individuals.
“We may not agree with their position, but the disappointment and disillusionment of citizens over the inadequacy or poor performance of their leaders is real

The Lagos State Government has concluded plans to
acquire 2,000 multimedia interactive solutions for all
secondary schools and tertiary institutions in the state
to replace the traditional chalkboards.
The state will also host the first Cambridge-Hitachi
Virtual Teaching and Learning Centre in Nigeria.
The state Governor, Babatunde Fashola, stated that the
government would be partnering with Cambridge-
Hitachi to make the dream a reality.
A statement on Tuesday by the Director, Local
Organising Committee, Cambridge-Hitachi Virtual
Teaching and Learning, Ms Adebukola Oluderu, quoted
Fashola as saying the move was to upgrade the
educational sector in the state.
Fashola said, “All tertiary institutions and secondary
schools, totalling about 10,000 in Lagos State, will have
the multimedia interactive solutions in each of their
classrooms to replace the traditional chalkboards which
will allow for world-class teaching and learning.”
Oluderu said the state’s partnership with the company
was a result of a roundtable meeting on education in
Africa held in October, 2014.
According to Oluderu, the decision of the state
government was indicated in a bid forwarded to the
Hitachi Group for tertiary and the secondary schools in
the state.
She added that the meeting was yielding result with the
Lagos State Government pioneering the hosting of the
centre.
Oluderu said a team of delegates from the state would
meet with the Cambridge-Hitachi team at the University
of Cambridge in the United Kingdom to sign the
Memorandum of Understanding for the commencement
of the centre.
“The multimedia solution is vital and important to
teaching and learning as it is the hub in which the
gains of the Cambridge-Hitachi International Virtual
Teaching and Learning Centre will be transferred and
transmitted to all schools,” she added.
The Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Olayinka
Oladunjoye, said the approval given to Lagos State to
host the centre was based on outstanding
performances, availability of infrastructure, and the
determination of the state government to improve
teaching and learning quality in the educational sector.

Wonderful! Jonathan was a failed Governor in Bayelsa and a failed President. The Niger Deltans and Ijaw nation are not blinded by ethnicity. Come february the people shall issue strong poilitical statement to the PDP through their votes.

Before president GEJ assumed office as elected president, the east-west road was like a death trap for commuters. But i can tell you authoritatively today that the situation has changed from bad to good. His transformation agenda is really working and it is very clear like HDTV in the eyes of nigerians with fair judgment and perhaps even the diasporians.
I have traversed almost the entire EAST-WEST road and i can tell you that roughly 80‰ of the job has been achieved.
The entire delta state axis has been fully completed and currently in use.(dual carriage). The second patani bridge (A 850m long bridge along east-west road crossing forcados river linking delta state-bayelsa state is almost completed(9∅‰ completion) Rivers Axis............Between okogbe and ahoada(river state sections) are done and others in constant construction. From rivers state to akwa ibom is almost completed.
