A fatal accident which occurred between a tipper driver and a bike man today left at least three people dead in Akwa Ibom state. According to reports, the accident led to the deaths of students and traders that were going to Aba along Aba road, close to the school gate. May their souls rest in peace.

The Abia State Police Command has embarked on numerous proactive measures to ensure that crimes are nipped in the bud and perpetrators of heinous and violent crimes put on check. The Command has recorded various achievements through the implementation of its identified crime fighting strategies.

On Friday 07/07/2017 at about 1600hrs, responding to information received that suspected cultists lodged in one Grand Lotto Hotel Aba, detectives attached to Ndiegoro Division swooped on the trio of Obike Stanley, Favour Michael and Kingsley Uchenna both males of Ken-Saro Wiwa Polytechnic, Bori and Rivers State Polytechnic, Ogoni respectively. The following items were recovered from them namely: one axe, cultist regalia, tramadol tablets and weeds suspected to be Indian-hemp. Suspects confessed being members of New Black Movement of Africa (NBM).Investigation is in progress.

There is uneasy calm in Umudioga Community in Emohua local government area of Rivers State. According to reports, not fewer than five persons have been beheaded in a rival cult gang clash. Police, army and other security operatives have reportedly taken over the area.

In furtherance of its clearance operations, on 2 July 2017, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Component of Operation LAFIYA DOLE conducted an Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) mission of the Sambisa general area, the former spiritual headquarters of the Boko Haram Terrorists (BHT). During the ISR mission, a gradual convergence of BHT elements at some buildings in Alagarno Camp 1 was noticed.

The sight of several solar panels on the rooftops of the buildings, and the obvious attempt to conceal the buildings, gave out the plans of the terrorists. A confirmatory ISR mission indicated that the structures were most likely a budding Command and Control facility, which could also house High Value Targets.

Accordingly, on 3 July 2017, the Air Component detailed 3 aircraft namely, 2 Alpha Jet and one F-7Ni aircraft, to conduct Air Interdiction strikes on the buildings in succession. Subsequent Battle Damage Assessment revealed that the structures with the solar panels as well as other adjoining BHT structures were damaged.

Furthermore, a suspected BHT technical vehicle, which was attempting to make a run from the vicinity, was struck by subsequent waves of attack.
