One more: if you're unsure about an item, ask the shipper before you seal the box, not after. Opening and repacking costs time.

Rates for shipping from Nigeria to the UK go as low as ₦9,000 per kg for larger shipments. Smaller boxes cost more per kg. That one fact explains most of the confusing quotes people get.

I run a shipping hub in Abuja. Every week someone asks the same questions in a WhatsApp group and gets five different answers. So here are straight ones.

1. Price per kg drops as the box gets bigger
A small box will never get the lowest rate. When you ask for a price, ask for the per kg rate at your actual weight, not "how much for a box".

2. One box is cheaper than three
Mum sends egusi this week, aunty sends fabric next week. That's two pickups and two packing costs. Agree a date and pack everything into one box.

3. Know what UK customs blocks before you pack
Fresh fish, unlabelled foodstuff, aerosols and perfume above the permitted limit, counterfeit designer items and cash. Pack any of these and the whole box can be held.

4. Dried and packaged food usually goes through
Garri, crayfish, dried fish and spices are usually fine, as long as they're properly packed.

5. Get the final price before the box leaves
A good shipper weighs, packs and confirms your final price before anything ships. If nobody can tell you the final price until the box lands, expect a surprise at the other end.

6. Ask when the clock starts
Our boxes land in the UK in 5 to 7 days from when we receive them, delivered to the door. Whoever you use, ask whether their timeline starts from pickup or from when the box leaves Nigeria.

7. Outside London is normal
Birmingham, Manchester, Leicester, Glasgow. You shouldn't need a London address to receive a box.

What the people who never have wahala do differently
- They send a photo of anything they're unsure about before packing
- They wait and send one bigger box instead of several small ones
- They get the final price in writing before the box ships

I put the full price guide, the can and can't send list and an FAQ here: https://deliverypage.africa/blog/how-to-save-big-when-shipping-goods-from-nigeria-to-the-uk?utm_source=nairaland&utm_medium=forum&utm_campaign=ng-uk-cost-guide&utm_content=travel-thread
It has a calculator that gives your exact cost in under a minute.

Question for those who have sent foodstuff to the UK before: which item gave you the most trouble?

Hello, Nnemuka.

That is really easy. You can compare shipping rates from various carriers such as DHL, Topship, GIG Logistics, FedEx, and others using Flit. It's a free tool for e-commerce merchants to utilize for evaluating and obtaining the cheapest shipping costs available. You can try the free shipping calculator at https://flit.ng/estimate to get an estimate.

I hope it is useful.

Hello, @Getsaved.

You would have most likely found an answer to your question, but I will go ahead and help since no one replied. Topship, Sendbox, or GIG Logistics are three companies I highly suggest.

However, in order to run a successful e-commerce business, you must have access to various shipping carriers. This will allow you to use a carrier that is strong in a specific route and package type, as well as get the best deals. You can try Flit (https://flit.ng) for that; it provides e-commerce sellers with access to multiple shipping carriers and allows you to compare costs to find the best deals.

19:45pm (GMT). Hazard has officially become Chelsea's latest player. He made the hugely anticipated announcement on twitter, and has joined the Stamford Bridge outfit. Now the question is, do you think that Juan Mata would relinquish his No. 10 shirt for Hazard? That was one of his demands.

Lets get your reaction...> http://fanrave..com

@Homar, it beats me that a lot of Chelsea critics have not changed their minds after their recent successes. Well, Eden made the right choice. in Chelsea, he will have more playing time and he already has a begging chance to lift the European Super Cup and the Club World Cup this season. Moreover, in the interest of Belgium, he will gel with Belgian team-mates in Chelsea such as Cortouis, Lukaku and De Bryune. But i wouldnt pretend his decision doesnt have a negative effect--->Chelsea midfield will loose its physicality, especially with the arrival of Marin, and the combo of Mata.

Lets slug it out on http://fanrave..com lets tweet @ejemtweets. it would enable me to have the chance to say 'I TOLD YOU SO'

Impatience... To make money online you need persistence, if you are not determined you won't make it. Another thing is information, lets not forget that information is wealth. With the right info, I'm sure people will start making good money online. It's quite unfortunate that there are lots of crabbed e-books out there, just saying one thing 'How to be a millionaire in weeks', but not telling people how to really do it...
