Gunmen have killed at least 20 persons in Adayi in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Nasarawa State over the weekend. The gunmen also killed 83 cows is suspected to be reprisals by gunmen who crossed over from Benue State. According to reports by The Nation security agencies have stepped up investigation but the Fulani leader of Adayi area of Loko, Mallam Bideri Ahmadu, alleged that suspected Agatu gunmen from Benue State might be behind the killings. Addressing newsmen, the Fulani community leader, Mallam Bideri Ahmadu, said: “rustle the cows in their boats across River Benue, but the cattle went berserk because of sporadic shootings.Upon realising they could not achieve their aim, the Agatu youth opened fire on the cows, killing 83. The injured ones are in the bush.” Police spokesman Ismaila Numan said the Nasarawa Division received a report of the killing of 83 cows by suspected hoodlums and investigation had started. But a security source quoted in the report said:“There has been tension in the area since the killing of more than 300 people in Agatu area of Benue State by suspected Fulani herdsmen. “We are suspecting reprisals by Agatu youths who do not want Fulani herdsmen in their area again. “The crisis between the Fulani and the Agatu is posing a threat to life and property in the two states. “Nasarawa and Benue governments have to step into the incessant clashes between the Fulani and the Agatu.” Recall that one of Nigeria’s most respected traditional rulers, the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar lll has commented on the ongoing nationwide attacks by Fulani herdsmen. Sa’ad Abubakar lll who is also the president-General of the Jama’atul Nasir Islam cautioned Nigerians not to brand terror attacks with in religious and ethnic garments. He however said perpetrators must be apprehended and made to face justice and to forestall a recurrence. www.naij.com/817247-reprisals-attack-fulani-herdsmen-gunmen-kill-20-persons-83-cows-nasarawa.html?source=index_main |

YORUBA HISTORY:- The royal dynasty could be traced back to over 500 B.C and was pioneered by Ooni Odùduwàwho is the ancestral father figure for all Yorubas. Ooni Oduduwa was succeeded by Ooni Osangangan Obamakinwho was also succeeded by his son, Ooni Ogun. Following the demise of Ooni Ogun, Ooni Obalufon Ogbogbodirinascended the throne as the 4th paramout ruler of the ancient city, "Ile Ife" and was succeeded by his son, Ooni Obalufon Alayemore. [ 4 ] Oranyan Omoluabisucceeded Ooni Obalufon Alayemore. Oranyan was Ooni Oduduwa's last born and one of Oduduwa's principal ministers and overseer of the nascent Benin Empire. He was the father of the pioneer Oba of Beninand first the Aláàfin of Oyowas one of his sons. [ 5 ]Oranyan was succeeded by Ooni Ayetise. Ooni Lajamisanascended the throne following the demise of Ooni Ayetise as the 8th Ooni of Ile Ife. [ 6 ]Lajamisan was succeeded by Ooni Lajodoogunwho was also succeeded by Ooni Lafogidoas the 10th Ooni of Ile Ife. Ooni Odidimode Rogbeesinascended the throne as the 11th Ooni of Ile Ife and following his demise, he was succeeded by Ooni Aworokolokin, the 12th traditional ruler of Ile Ife. Ooni Gboonijioascended the throne as the 15th Ruler and was succeeded by Ooni Okanlajosinwho was in turn succeeded by Ooni Adegbaluwho preceded Ooni Osinkolawho was succeeded by Ooni Ogboruu. [ 11 ] ORANMIYAN HISTORY:- Oranmiyan Omoluabi Odede, Great Prince of Ife, King of the Yoruba, also known as Oranmiyan, was a Yoruba king from the kingdom of Ile-Ife [ 1 ]and although last born, he was heir to Oduduwa. [ 2 ]According to Yoruba history, he founded Oyo as its first Alaafin at around the year 1300 and one of his children, Eweka I, went on to become the first Oba of the Benin Empire. [ 3 ]Following the Oba Oranmiyan's death, his family is fabled to have erected the commemorative stele known as the Staff of Oranmiyan -Opa Oranmiyanin the Yoruba language- at the place where their father died. Radiocarbon tests have however shown that this royal marker was erected centuries before the start of the Oduduwa dynasty, during what is known as the "classical" Ifeperiod . [ 2 ] Oranmiyan at Benin[ edit] the Bini chiefs, who had earlier requested for spiritual and political direction from Ife after the death of Ogiso Owodo of Igodomigodo were led by Oranmiyan. He however met opposition from the kin of the Ogiso, and was refused entrance into the City. Oranmiyan camped at a place called Uselu. His foreign style management didn't go down well with the chiefs and they usually spied on him, all this made Oranmiyan declare that only a son of the soil can cope with the attitude of the Igodomigodo people and called the land "Ile - Ibinu" meaning Land of Vexation. On leaving Ile-Ibinu(later Ibini, and corrupted to "Benin" by the Portuguese), he stopped briefly at Ego where he had an affair with Erinwide, the daughter of the Enogie(Duke), Eweka I was the result of this affair but by now Oranmiyan was far away never to return. |

History of Benin Empire:- The original people and founders of the Benin Empire, the Edo people, were initially ruled by the Ogiso (Kings of the Sky) dynasty who called their land Igodomigodo. The rulers or kings were commonly known as Ogiso. Igodo, the first Ogiso, wielded much influence and gained popularity as a good ruler. He died after a long reign and was succeeded by Ere, his eldest son. In the 12th century, a great palace intrigue and battle for power erupted between the warrior crown prince Ekaladerhan son of the last Ogiso and his young paternal uncle. In anger over an oracle, Prince Ekaladerhan left the royal court with his warriors. When his old father the Ogiso died, the Ogiso dynasty was ended as the people and royal kingmakers preferred their king's son as natural next in line to rule. The exiled Prince Ekaladerhan, who was not known in Yoruba land, somehow earned the title of Oni Ile-fe Izoduwa which is now corrupt to yoruba language as Ooni (Oghene) of Ile-Ife Oduduwa and refused to return, then sent his son Oranmiyan to become king. Prince Oranmiyan took up his abode in the palace built for him at Usama by the elders (now a coronation shrine). Soon after his arrival he married a beautiful lady, Erinmwinde, daughter of Osa-nego, was the ninth Enogie (Duke) of Ego, by whom he had a son. After some years residence here he called a meeting of the people and renounced his office, remarking that the country was a land of vexation, Ile-Ibinu (by which name the country was afterward known) and that only a child born, trained and educated in the arts and mysteries of the land could reign over the people. He caused his son born to him by Erinmwinde to be made King in his place, and returned to Yoruba land Ile-Ife. After some years in Ife, he left for Oyo, where he also left a son behind on leaving the place, and his son Ajaka ultimately became the first Alafin of Oyo of the present line, while Oranmiyan himself was reigning as Oni of Ife. Therefore, Oranmiyan of Ife, the father of Eweka I, the Oba of Benin, was also the father of Ajaka, the first Alafin of Oyo. Oni of Ife and Alafe of Oyo is a Bini spoken language all the Kings title in Southerner are Edo Language. In Nigeria Edo has the greatest and rich culture and most influence in West Africa and powerful King in Nigeria. Allegedly Oba Eweka later changed the name of the city of Ile-Binu, the capital of the Benin kingdom, to "Ubinu." This name would be reinterpreted by the Portugueseas "Benin" in their own language. Around 1470, Ewuare changed the name of the state to Edo. [ 2 ]This was about the time the people of Okpekpemigrated from Benin City. |

We all know it, and talk about it every year. The fact that BET International Award winners are given their awards backstage, and don’t have a chance to receive their award live or give a live thank you message (usually pre-recorded). Considering that most of the artists nominated for the international award fly in various countries in Africa or Europe it kind of seems unfair. But no artist nominated has ever been vocal about it even when their fans are. In the past years, some have even defended BET and claimed they didn’t receive their award backstage even when it was clear they did. Fuse ODG just proved he’s bold enough to put an end to all that with a tweet he directed at BET saying that he didn’t come for the award show because he feels disrespected to receive his award backstage. see tweetbelow;

Floyd Mayweather has agreed to fight Manny Pacquiao in a rematch fight in a year's time, according to reports in the United States. The American fighter beat the Filipino on points in a hotly-anticipated fight in Las Vegas on the weekend. And now Mayweather is said to have told ESPN journalist Stephen A. Smith that we would be willing to fight Pacquiao again - once he recoveres from shoulder surgery to repair a tear in his rotator cuff. "I will fight him in a year after his surgery," Mayweather is reported to have told Smith in a text message. The move is something of an about turn for Mayweather, who said after the fight: "My last fight is in September, and then it's time for me to hang it up." Meanwhile Pacquiao's legal woes continue as he is being sued in US court for allegedly not disclosing his shoulder injury. Two people in Nevada filed a lawsuit on Tuesday against Pacquiao, alleging the boxer defrauded ticket buyers, television viewers and gamblers by failing to disclose a pre-bout shoulder injury ahead of his fight against Mayweather. The lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court in Nevada and seeks status as a class action. It asks for all relief allowed by law. The fighter could already be in legal hot water after failing to disclose his shoulder injury before his fight. The Filipino lost Saturday's clash in Vegasby unanimous decision, but complained of a shoulder problem in the aftermath of the defeat. In a pre-fight questionnaire, one of the questions read: "Have you had any injury to your shoulders, elbows, or hands that needed evaluation or examination? If yes, explain..." Pacquiao ticked 'no'. The only things Pacquiao disclosed in the questionnaire were the medicines which he had taken in the last month. |
The election in Oyo State recorded 40 per cent voters’ turnout. When we start to review the elections, a lot of things will be revealed to the public. How many eligible voters had PVCs? That is where things went wrong. Many of the PVCs were stolen by people who denied others of exercising their rights to vote. How many card readers were used? These were the problems during the elections. Jega should not be congratulated for conducting free and fair elections. In Nigeria, we are not sincere with ourselves. We want to take advantage of every situation and make a lot of noise about it. Do we have to restructure the INEC to solve these problems? I don’t know if the array of professors we have appointed as INEC chairmen is what the commission needs to perform better. The fact that the chairmen are professors made them behave arrogantly in some cases. It does not show that a professor is a better manager. We should look for people who know what the job is all about. The ability to manage is what is important in the position. You can find a non-professor who will do the work better. I would have preferred a chairman who will give INEC in the states the right to print the cards in their states, buy the card making machines for them and supervise the process using the State Security Service to check fraud. When the process is complete, he can come out and announce his election timetable. We should solve local problems locally. We don’t know how many cards are outstanding now. INEC did not compare the cards received with the number of registered voters. In Afijio Local Government of Oyo State, one-third of the cards were not received by eligible voters who registered. It is not compulsory that a professor must head INEC because they have no knowledge of what is happening at the grass roots. They are far from reality on the ground. When are you going to the tribunal with evidence to support your claims of rigging in the Oyo State. governorship election? We have about 20 days before the allotted time expires for the filing of petitions. We will do so at the appropriate time. Are you optimistic of victory at the tribunal?. If we are not optimistic, we will not be doing it. Take a tour of the state and look at the people’s mood. Go to Oyo, Iseyin and everywhere else in the state. The people are mourning because they are saying that we did not vote for him (Governor Abiola Ajimobi). I don’t know where he got the votes. That is what we are going to ask the tribunal to find out. |
Where do you think history will place President Goodluck Jonathan in Nigeria? I commend him because he fought well for re-election. When the game was up, he acted as a statesman. Have you ever seen a presidential candidate in Nigeria since 1999 who lost an election and did not head to the election tribunal? In 1999, Alliance for Democracy and the All Nigeria Peoples Party presented Olu Falae against Olusegun Obasanjo. Falae lost and went to the tribunal. In 2003, 2007 and 2011, Buhari headed to the tribunal to challenge his loss to the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidates. Hence, Jonathan is the first to congratulate his successor- to-be. I am sure that there are reasons for Jonathan to go to the tribunal. In a situation where we had 1.9m votes without anyone of them void or nullified being credited to a person, how do you explain that? There are reasons that everything did not go well during the election but Jonathan just accommodated peace by accepting the loss so that Nigeria can move forward. He should be commended for showing us in Nigeria that we can do things differently. Some have advocated for the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega, to be placed on the same page as Jonathan. Do you think Jega is worthy of statesmanship status? I don’t think so because Jonathan is bigger than Jega in all standards. What has Jega done? He conducted an election which was fraudulent by all standards. It’s just that people are saying that we should just accept the elections. It was not credible. In many places, voters did not get the Permanent Voter Cards. The number of PVCs that were not given was enough to change the course of the election. Are you saying that Jega has done a good job? He had the opportunity of mapping the constituencies with the 2006 census. We conduct a census every 10 years with a view to using it for national planning. He did not do it. In Oyo State, constitution supports that we have 40 seats in the House of Assembly but he did not obey the court order and the constitution. We have 32 seats and the state challenged it and got a ruling which Jega ignored. Please, do not compare Jonathan to Jega, Jonathan is far bigger in personality. During the elections, we had polling units and wards where accredited voters were not up to 50 per cent of registered voters and less even voted. Do you think the total votes cast during the election were enough to say that the people trooped out to vote? If we have 50 per cent of voters coming out to vote, then we can celebrate an average turnout. |
What is your view on the victory of Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd) at the presidential poll? I wish him good luck and hope that he is the right man to make Nigeria better. He is not starting afresh because Buhari is not a new comer in government. We have seen him before and we know him as a disciplined person. We believe he will be able to put some sanity where necessary. What kind of people would you advise him to accommodate in his government? The President-electshould accommodate only people of like mind who can help his mission when he gets there. He should make sure that he works with people who will make him achieve his objectives as a president. The president is free in his choice of cabinet members. He is not bound to pick politicians alone or people from just one political party to run the government with him. His objectives are to redress Nigeria, bring peace and development better than what we have now. The only way he can do it is to provide employment for the youths because that is the major developmental challenge. A lot of youths are out of the universities without being gainfully employed. It is necessary to address that. Another major challenge to our nation’s growth is the issue of power. If he can make electricity stable, it will enhance development. Many companies have packed out of Nigeria because they cannot have access to stable electricity. Maybe Buhari can move faster in terms of power and the companies would come back to Nigeria. Will it not be asking too much from Buhari if we expect him to tackle the problem of electricity in four years? It is possible to tackle the problems associated with power in four years. The power ministry has a lot of information with it. They know what to do exactly. We have been talking about coal power generation system, hydro-electricity system, solar-powered electricity and other forms of power generation. If Nigeria moves straight and confronts the problems facing power generation immediately now, it should be able to solve them in four years. Don’t you envisage a major financial challenge for the next government because of the dwindling income being generated from oil? Our problem does not come from how much we generate from oil but what we spend the money on. Why is Nigeria spending so much on food importation? If we are serious in this country, we should produce our food here and export for foreign-exchange generation. With this, we can create a lot of jobs and solve employment problem. Our problem is not too much money or too little money but wastefulness. |
If lies worth a degree I think Ajimobi deserves one. - Technical University couldn't be completed due to Boko Haram destructions in the North. -Five star hotel is nearing completion. Pix one is that of Osun state Obas pointing their staff toward Osun state governor and APC guber candidate in last Osun guber poll, Ogbeni Raufu Aregbesola giving him their blessing while endosing him for 2nd term in the Osun guber poll; Pix two is that of Yoruba Obas pointing their staff to GEJ giving him their blessing while endosing him for 2nd term; To the APC and its apologists, OSUN Monachs who prayed and endosing Ogbeni Aregbesola were not bribed and their endosement and prayers for him was right. but reverse is the case for GEJ, as APC and its apologists accused Yoruba obas of taking bribe and lacking integrity. Nigerians, is this type of change they preach? It will be a great mistake for NIGERIANs to entrust their futures in the hands of a party of hypocrities, liars and propagandists.
