In poultry business, we have meat and egg production birds.
*Meat production* : they are birds we raise for slaughter like broiler, cockerel and male noiler, the only way to get quick result on them to feed them both day and night with good feeds. Broiler birds will be ready for slaughter between 6-9weeks, if they are fed both day and night with good feeds. Also cockerel is 5 months base on good feeding both day and night.

Egg production : these birds that lay eggs either for consumption or hatching. Feeding them is strictly by measurement, they must never over feed or feed less in order to get excellent result on their egg production.

Let us talk about causes of egg production reduction:
1. Lice: they are small parasites walking around birds, they do reduce egg production. Solutions to this problem are to use any deworming drug that contain ivermectin (eg kepromec ) and to rub delousing powder on those birds, rub thoroughly to the skin(eg for delousing powder is ectopel).
2. Bad nutrient feed: less quality feed do cause reduction of egg production. Good feed for laying birds are new hope, breedwell and hybrid
3. Lack of accurate measurement of feed: there should be scale to measure accuracy of feed in the farm and farmers must know every measurement of feed for their birds from chicks to laying period which this help to maximise egg production.

Note: let us ensure we observe our medical routine time to time and have close monitoring on our birds and employees.

Let's talk about CORYZA
CORYZA is caused by heat, lack of ventilation and wet litters.
Let us talk about those 3 causes of CORYZA:
Heat : the height of the pen house must be high to avoid heat to act directly our birds. Congestion of birds in a pen house will generate excess heat and it is advisable not over stock in each pen house.


Lack of ventilation : 4 sides of the pen house must be opened for fresh air to go in and out, the air will blow off the heat and also resist the litters to get wet easily


Wet litters : It is good to pack the litters of our birds at time due, we should it to get wet before packing and leaving to get wet will trigger the disease we called CORYZA.

Chronic respiratory disease (CRD) is caused by lack of ventilation, congestion of birds in the pen house and wet litters
Treatment : we can use tylodox or pure tylosin and for chronic case for CRD we can use Tilmicoxin(pls don't use for laying birds because their eggs will be bitter)

For newly stocked day old birds, they do not need much heat for brooding because of the active hot weather and for brooded ones, pls let us generate maximum ventilation for them. Also let us avoid feeding them in the afternoon to avoid unwanted mortality.
