FOOTBALLERS: CRAZY HAIRSTYLE IS FOR THE BLACKS, WHILE TATOO IS FOR THE WHITES: WHAT DOES IT INSPIRE? I NEED HELP; I have taken good time to observe this in the ongoing FIFA CONFEDERATION CUP even though they had been there among our footballers. Our Black players, particularly Africans, wear crazy hairstyles in the field of play. But for their Jersey, they could pass for the madmen we see in our streets and at the market place. What is this madness for? What does it inspire? Does wearing the hairstyle of a mad man make a footballer play better and score goals? How many of them displayed impressive soccer artistry and scored goals for Nigeria in the Confederation Cup? One of them reminds me of my days in Secondary School when we were making 'guy' with bushy hairs and once we were 'captured' by our teachers after several successful escapes, the bushy hair was cut side by side, leaving an island of hair in the middle of the head to the back to compel us to barb it. Certainly, your ugly appearance as a student must force you to barb the whole hair and appear neat and civil in school the next day. It is this ugly hair that one of our Super Eagle players proudly displayed in the field, yet Nigeria was defeated by Uruguay and Spain. Is there no way FIFA and CAF could put a stop to this nonsense? How can players, representing their country in such prestigious tournaments like football, look like mad men in the field and it is allowed? What does it inspire? Now, White Bodies are equally made ugly by tatoos. I see so many of them in this CONFEDERATION CUP and when they remove their Jersey at the end of every match, I feel like throwing up; I mean I develop stomach upset and feel like vomitting. And when they exchange their Jerseys with co-players at the blast of the final whistle, I pity the recipients of the Jerseys from tatooed bodies. Watching Spain vs Italy, my little daughter in Nursery 3 asked me why their bodies look like that of Eke(Python)? I told her they call it "tatoo", but could not explain further. What are these things for? What do they inspire? What do they signify? I'm asking because I do not know and I need help. |

The publisher of E24/7 Magazine, Biodun Kupoluyi, has alleged that the Senior Pastorof Household of God, Chris Okotie, has banned him from attending his church, after he did a story about his relationship with a certain undergraduate named Miss Naomi Hoffman. Kupoluyi, who before now was a not-too-regular member of the Lagos-base ministry, in an interview with Encomium Magazine, told his side of the story. Excerpts: I received the news from a man claiming he's representing the church that he has been directed by the pastor of the church and members of Household of God church that I should not come and worship with them. His reason, he said, was premised on E24-7 magazine's expose - pastor Chris finds new love, says I will not get married again, but may opt for surrogacy soon. I found it shocking that a day after the publication hit the streets, his media department sent a release out and it confirmed our story. He actually made those statements and we reported it. I think he did not think anybody could have known about his romance with the girl, Naomi. He was caught off guard..but as a journalist, I owe our teeming readers that responsibility. I feel fulfilled, though I will miss his theatrics, his stage performances and verbosity. My perception of the church and my respect for the man has changed. He is not a serious preacher of the gospel. The job of a good shepherd is to seek a lost sheep, not to ban a sheep or send away a sheep from the fold. It is only in our environment that these kind of things happen. Because I worship in a church, I can't write the story of the pastoreven if the pastor is doing what is wrong? But the pastor and the church will hail me if I praise him or do a PR story for them. Despite the ban, if journalistic duties calls I will go there. In fact we were there the following week after I was barred. It was the week he claimed Christians can do tattoos and plastic surgery. We went with a whole crew, looking forward to a show down. I'm a free citizen. I can not be cowed. And I stand by my story on Naomi. That is not disputable! |

NIGERIA will be 100 by January 1, 2014, a date that marks the British amalgamation of the Northern and Southern Protectorates, some say for administrative convenience, to form the country called Nigeria. Activities are lined up to celebrate the centenary. They would stretch from next month to October 1, 2014. Some would be wondering what we are celebrating. Others remain strident about what they call "the mistake of 1914" which lumped parts that were never in union together. Calls for different ends of Nigeria to go their separate ways have not ceased. These are different ways of expressing the same frustrations about the poor progress Nigeria has made in critical indices of human development. Away from politics and the tendencies of the opposition, Nigeria at 100 should be a celebration of enduring achievements that have improved lives and firmed the sustenance of Nigerians in an overwhelmingly competitive world. Blames on leadership and docility of Nigerians to challenge their leaders have been listed as factors in the Nigeria's deteriorating state. None of the positions provides answers to the more disturbing question of what to do with the country and its peoples. Individualism shows in all we do. Those who lead, use the instruments of their offices to enrich themselves and constrain others -with such astuteness - from attaining power - that power becomes all there is to their leadership. Barely a year to the centenary, our people still doubt the bases of our nationhood, a legitimate inquest with the rashes of polices that do not mobilise our people for the greater good of the country. The crippling poverty that has found affinity with diseases, hunger, unemployment, injustices and illiteracy do not call for celebration. Education and health are key factors in the improvement of the human development indices of any country. They deserve more importance, no matter what else governments intend to do. They are also about our future, which appear to be of little consequence as we wobble towards 100 years. A country with dim consideration of its future is doomed just as a future hardly exists where leadership is about access to the common wealth for individual use. We must act in ways that can sustain the country on keen awareness of the importance of being Nigerian rather than sectional in our decisions. In addition to the planned elaborate celebrations, the centenary provides vast platforms to examine ways of making Nigeria work better. We should explore them for their relevance to our struggles to attain stable nationhood. When the fireworks of the centenary die, we should have commenced the construction of a nation bound in freedom, peace, unity, and abundances they bestow. |
drnoel: is it not best we hear them out first and hear what they have to say. Look, we are all learned men and women and once an accusation is made, we owe the accuser and accusee our ears. At the end of it all, after we have filtered all their rubbish from all their accusations and misaccusation we will then agree on what to believe. I respect madam Ezekwesili and I know we all do but would suggest we all hear what the GEJ counter attack has to say.As long as I would like to hear JEG, There's No amount of documention his committee wil formulate wold make me to believe them because JEG came up at ending of 2011, and start saying that there was No money in our federal account and even our oil reserve account could not maintain Subsidy where as the money hidden inside our oil revenue account is enough to build six refineries and at the same time bring the price of petroleum to N25 per liter.............what a hard hearten administration. Nigerian cannot get well without you voicing against all these shit. |
