Since he has completed his two years IT, his admission depends on the oral screening that will be conducted.

Although, he has a higher chance of getting admitted if he applies for part-time.
I learnt that companies don't honour the part time. besides 3 years instead of 2 years. anyways he'll try his luck

Good morning nairalanders,

I know a lot of students here applied for admission in federal polytechnic auchi for the year 2017/2018 section. Please I really want to know the total amount spent both for acceptance fee and other charges

Gracias.
Why is it that Auchi does not accept OND without jamb?

A thoughtful one, I said it earlier your success and satisfaction depends on your talent, personality and passion. You already have the talent like you said, your passion will readily be channeled there with Joy, however the last thing here now is your personality, do you have the balls to take that decision?? A lot of time what fails people is their personality, they are timid and scared. Life is meant for the braved and daring ones.
I know of a friend who quit Engineering at the 3rd year to study medicine even though Engineering is lucrative but that was not his passion, can you see clearly where the personality comes into it. Today, he is doing fine in the medical line, ensure you take the best decision. If it will require you to write Jamb and start afresh, then do it with determination, dedication, diligently and prayerfully. Trust me success is sure to come.

Let your personality comes into play.
Pls sir sorry for disturbing you. I'm always glad to find out things from someone who knows better than I do.
pls what if I go for HND then I do direct entry.
that will take 4 years. now I'll have ND, HND and Bsc degree. instead of doing 4 years for Bsc and at the end I'll have Bsc and ND. plus jamb stress.
is it a good idea? Hoping to hear from you. Thank you

Firstly, I will advice you to drop and dump the HND idea and let's focus on something else. In life three things matters when it comes to living purposefully, your talent, personality and then passion. You have already discovered your passion, that is what a lot of people won't discover throughout their stay on earth. Passion cries for expression, it shows the potentials, skills, talents that one carries and time flies when you are fulfilling it. There is difference between success and satisfaction, when you follow your passion and work hard, you will surely be great and get satisfaction.

Now to your issue, please get a Jamb brochure and study it very well, some universities accept ND Distinction/upper credit in Mathematically based courses for their Computer science programmes e.g. IMSU and UDU and since engineering is mathematically based, you will surely be considered. If however you don't have an Upper Credit or don't meet the requirements for these schools then you can sit for another Jamb, this is your passion and what you love to do, you won't be the first person to finish ND and take Jamb again into the university . Don't think too much about the age factor, I have an uncle who spent three years at home just to get into the university for EEE, today he is successful and already made, that was his passion and he followed it passionately.

If you still want to go on with Marine Engineering, then apply for DE into AKSU, RSUST, FUPRE or NDU, but I will love you to follow your passion.

This is the best and genuine advice I can offer. I hope it helps. I wish you success in your future pursuits.
Thank you very much sir. This is very helpful. I'm grateful.
like I said if I wanna consider university I am going for computer science. Maritime Academy is the well recognized maritime institution in Nigeria. Some of those universities are not well recognized by IMO.
But the industry is crap now. no jobs. the little ones available is based on man know man. that's how Nigeria labour market is. I want an entrepreneurial course and computer science is one of it. I can start earning money on my own without working for any coy if I am good in what I am doing. most important computer technology is gaining ground now and I want to take a chance. I can't bury this talent. maybe what I am facing today is a guidepost to return and do what I love. my only regret in life is not studying computer science when I finished highschool. in highschool I used to be very good in computer and internet stuffs but I lacked mentorship. that's why I ended up doing what I know I don't love bcoz I thought the course was lucrative.

A good question. The modalities for admission for DE and Jamb are quite different. For Jambites, most universities set a uniform cut off mark as Jamb has given them the autonomy for all courses and do the same for post UTME before announcing aggregate scores for each department later on. The DE admission is however different, candidates are required to have O'level and then lower/upper credit minimum as the case may be, some schools conduct Post UTME for DE students too in order to ascertain them so failure in that means rejection.

After admission into the university either by Jamb or DE, you guys are all in one department and as such will work together. I don't think there exist any discrimination at least during my undergraduate programme, we didn't have such occurrence as everyone is now a university student and will all be issued degree after graduation though sometimes we make fun of the DE students.

Also, I will say entering through Jamb is better but, that however is a personal view and subject to arguments but if you are already doing your ND plan for DE, if you are just done with secondary school or still at home, plan to enter through Jamb, don't just rush to polytechnic because you want to leave house, someone said up there it is good to pay now and play later, it is a meaningful parable.

Thank you sir. I'm asking this question bcoz I'm considering it. I did my OND in marine engineering at Maritime Academy of Nigeria Oron. I was about going for HND this year but the school has suspended admissions till further notice.
I have passion for computer and I would like to study computer science if I am to go to university. the school didn't do computer science cos the only focus on maritime related courses.
I don't think if university will accept marine engineering for computer science cos it doesn't relate anyway. I'm thinking of starting afresh but it's not funny cos time has been spent already. I'm confused.

A topic for another day.
This one is another subject entirely.
But it is not that serious like HND and Bsc wahala.
Passing through jamb or direct entry which one is better? hope no discrimination?

So much hard truths in one post. If polytechnics want to measure up with the University, they should make their entry requirements same as well as many other things that have been said. For now, it is more like a dumping ground for those rejected in the University, unless you still intend to acquire a degree which would give you an edge.

I remember how I wrote Jamb several times and struggled to enter the University, I knew my mates that went to the Polytechnic after a trial out of frustration because of "My mates are all in school" mentality. Polytechnic is good for technical and engineering courses as it can get you self employed. Even at that, an Engineering University graduate is still ahead of you because he gives directions while the technicians carry out the practical duties.

In conclusion, get the fùcking degree!!
What about the federal university and state university discrimination?

Any laptop can serve except if u want to design phone app, then u will be needing android studio . If u use mini laptop for android studio ur system will cry (literally). Even on normal 2gig ram system , your system will likely hang if u start up the AVD. But u can avoid the problem by downloading alternative virtual device like gene motion.
150k laptop can do everything right?

What's your budget? If you want start with web development (php/node.js/general javascript). A regular laptop with 4gb RAM and minimum of Intel pentium(R) process will be more than ok.

Avoid Amd processors. Even if it's QBASIC you intend to learn.

I feel you have a misplaced priority, how can you study in iron and want to come to Yabatech to study, aren't you suppose yo go to somewhere like maritime university of Ghana, study more in your Field and become a successful Chief engineer in a ship or more..... Why killing a dream that has begun??
I understand Bro but I think it wasn't meant to be. It kills me inside. It's too bad I can't fight for this dream. financially do you know if I can afford to study in Ghana? Though Maritime Academy of Nigeria Oron is costly but Ghana will be a different thing.
I think I have a failed career. It has happened to many. Early in life I discovered my talent. I have always been passionate about computer. I did magical things. I was always needed especially by phone users. I solved many problems for people. Many people advised me to study computer science after highschool but I didn't see what they saw. Now it's clear to me.
When life tells you “no" ask yourself honestly
What am I capable of?
This dream of becoming a marine engineer and being a chief engineer someday is dead but I must find another outlet and that's doing what I love. doing what I have passion for.
I hope you understand. Thanks for your concern.

Hello guys.

I am a OND holder in Marine Engineering.
The school I did my OND are currently under restructuring and repositioning. Because of that admission has been suspended for two years. I can't wait.
I wanna go for HND in another school. I have passion for computer and I would like to do computer science in my HND.
Please how do you see it? Is it possible?
Marine Engineering - Computer Science.
Hope there won't be any repercussion tomorrow.
Thanks for your advice.
