Talk2Bella: Update:
The embassy called me this morning.
According to them, my document is suspected of being manipulated. They would not explain how they arrived at that conclusion, said the case is closed, and informed me that I have one month to appeal.
They also stated that when a document is suspected of this nature, it is not returned. I am sincerely hoping the document has not been destroyed, as that would be extremely detrimental.
Honestly, this all feels surreal. Like I’m watching it happen from outside my body.
In the meantime, I’ve contacted an immigration firm in Germany, and I’ve asked my university to issue a formal verification letter on my behalf to include in the appeal.
If anyone has been through something similar or understands how this appeal process works, I would really appreciate any insight or guidance. Wow, was there any physical alterations on the certificate? What was the advice from the immigration lawyer? Hoping this is resolved soon. |

Talk2Bella: I honestly wish they had explained how they arrived at that conclusion. I am completely confident in the authenticity of my certificate, which is why I asked them to contact the school directly and why I was comfortable reaching out to the university myself. This is Ahmadu Bello University, after all.
I included my MBA because my professional background and intended work are in marketing, which has been my field for many years. My MBA is also in marketing, so it is directly relevant to my career path and application.
What remains unclear is how they concluded that the certificate is not genuine without first verifying it with the issuing institution. That is the part that raises the most questions for me.
At this point, my immediate priority is the return of my original MBA certificate. Depending on how they respond and whether the verification is properly handled, I will then decide on the next steps regarding an appeal. Please let us know the outcome of this and will advice to follow to the end... cos as someone here said, it could affect your future shengen visas. To all, pls I would like to be in contact with an immigration lawyer in germany. If not for anything, let me hear his/her opinion. |

Talk2Bella: I have already reached out directly to the school, and they have confirmed that there is nothing wrong with my certificate. They also advised that the embassy contact them directly for verification. In my response, I included the official email addresses of the school to facilitate this process. I am unsure why this verification was not done initially by the embassy.
I sincerely hope that my original certificate is returned and that it has not been misplaced. Now, how they arrived at the conclusion that the certificate isn't genuine is the big question. And might I ask, why did you include your MBA in the application, was your undergraduate degree different entirely? Are you looking to appeal the decision or you just want your MBA certificate back? |

Received my passport today; visa denied. Reasons: - I didn't show that I have been applying to jobs or/and shown that I have been called for job interviews or correspondence at any sector. - I've not demonstrated competence in my field of study through the administered test at the embassy or through my experience. Although I can appeal this decision not later than 1 month from the date of this letter.
Now, it is true that i didn't present any evidence of job applications or evidence that I've been having correspondence with any company for job opportunities. The second part: I read chemical engineering for my undergraduate degree but I have not even picked up my certificate since 2016 if not for this Chancenkarte application. Since 2016 to date, I have been in the solar energy sector. Yes, it is possible that I didn't do well in the given test at the interview, but I made it known to the interviewer that this is not the sector I am hoping to get a job in germany. That was further demostrated in my motivation letter and CV. I presented all my training certificates and also my trade test certificate. She told me not to worry, that I should just try my best in what I was presented as the test (might I add that the test wasn't even chemical engineering related per se, out of the 10 questions, about 6 was on tensile stress and strain... I agree, this shouldn't be an excuse). Pls should I appeal this decision or just move on, cos to be honest, I am tired. I have actually put my life partially on pause cos of this application for close to a year now. (Started this application April 2025) |

Hi, to understand your question well.... are you talking about the expatrio app itself or cardremit app? Susu25: Hello, Please I need your help. I’m trying to make my payment to Expatrio, I selected the “pay in naira” option and the invoice it generated to me specifies the beneficiary as “Flywire” with a “Wema” bank account number, please I just want to confirm if it’s safe to go on with this transaction? |

Hello all, someone gave us a breakdown of how his/her interview went sometimes last week where he/she had to email the Consulate twice I think for some reasons. I can't seem to find the post again, would have quoted it. My reason for looking for the post is to ask the person what email address he/she used when writing them. I need to write them urgently. |

PhilexOG: Thanks so much for the breakdown. There’s one bit I’m still confused about. When I want to generate the account from Expatrio, they first asked me where the funds will be coming from, selected Nigeria, then after they asked if the funds will be coming directly from me or someone else. What should I pick in this scenario is my question or am I doing something wrong ? Ok, so the question is straight forward... since the cardremit account you are going to be using to send the funds will be in your name (I'm assuming you opened the account yourself), just pick the option that the funds will be coming directly from you. NB: make sure the cardremit account name, tallies with the name on your expatrio account. I think I was asked thesame question. |

PhilexOG: Hi boss good day, I have some questions please as I’m in a similar situation as you, trying to fund my Expatrio account and I’ve setup my CadRemit account. Did you end up using CadRemit to fund your BA ? If using CadRemit , when initiating the transfer from Expatrio, would the country the fund is coming from still be Nigeria ?
What of the who is transferring the money ? Myself or someone else ? how long did it take for the money to reflect in your BA ? Yes, I used the cardremit app to transfer my funds to my BA on expatrio. Yes,the country of origin is Nigeria, I don't even think you need to worry yourself about that. Once the funds are in your cardremit account, you just go to the transfer section and input the amount you want to transfer in either the euro or naira box, and the equivalent (based on the exchange that day) will automatically appear in the other box. Input your Iban from expatrio and automatically too, your details (name and all) will appear in the receiver's box. Then hit transfer. It actually took less than a minute in my case for it to appear on my expatrio dashboard, I was so happy. I should probably have come back to thank @Sid57 for the advice. So yea, it's seamless. |

Diceman8: Hey bro. Congratulations, let us know how long, preliminary review to interview takes.
---- for the reference : the "reference" line is just a standard field on many embassy forms.
It's meant for applicants who already have someone in Germany - like a friend, employer, or host - but it's optional for those applying independently
You can fill it in like this (any of these are fine):
Option 1 - If you have no one there:
Reference in Germany: None (I do not have a contact person in Germany yet.)
Option 2 - If you have a temporary accommodation booked:
Reference in Germany: [Hotel or Airbnb name] Address: [Address of accommodation] Email/Phone: [If available]
Option 3 - If you plan to stay in a specific city but haven't booked yet:
Reference in Germany: Not applicable Planned city of stay: [City name, e.g., Berlin, Munich, Hamburg]
Just make sure not to leave it empty Ok, thank you. There's actually a space for you to reply(explain) to thier request different from the form space. I have already stated there that I do not have a reference in Germany. I'll see what thier reply to that will be... so it's thier move now. I dont think there should be any waiting period to interview again after preliminary review + corrections... I know immediately they are satisfied with the corrections made, you are allowed to book your interview date. Now that depends on the available dates. @JIGGERNAPPY can tell us what dates were available when he tried choosing one for his interview. |

JIGGERNAPPY: You are still in preliminary review step? When did you apply?
I am April 27th and I was asked to book appointment yesterday, after a series of corrections. foonshur: Yes, I'm still under preliminary review. Applied April 30th, then submitted my documents Sept 10 What corrections were you asked to make? Ok, so I woke up around 6am this morning to my own set of corrections . Was asked to make an affidavit of declaration of age and also write a motivation letter. That shouldn't be a problem. But my biggest worry is the reference page. I provided a reference that stays here in nigeria and for the corrections, they are requesting I provide a reference that stays in germany. I do not have anyone that stays in germany let alone use as a reference. How did you go about this in your case? How many days were you allowed to make your corrections?? |

Kingsadviser: Not yet. Still waiting for Decision from the Consulate in Lagos. It's over 3 months now. Praying for positive outcome On another note, this is getting worrisome. 3 months just for visa decision, and we were getting worked up for being under Preliminary Review for up to a month now. Do we not need to organise a prayer session for this as it stands?? I pray for a favourable outcome for you tho. |

Haliimmaa: Hey Hey. I've been okay. So the first thing I did was to find my way to the city center and got a number with telekom and paid for a prepaid subscription. I then proceeded to open a Revolut bank account. I looked for appointment dates to register my anmeldung and couldn't find one close to me so I booked an appointment in another district. Went for the appointment and got my anmeldung in under 10 minutes. I recently got a job and realized that the DR Walter's health insurance does not provide you with an SVNR(social security number) so I had to register with a public health insurance(registered with TK) and government office sent me my SVNR. I currently need to switch from the opportunity visa to a Blue card so I'm running around looking for an appointment before my start date which is next week. Anyone who can help should please reach out.
I did not use a blocked account so I can't help with that.
As for accommodation, I had it all sorted out before I even got to Germany. The landlord has to put your name plate on your mailbox so you can get letters like your tax id, SVNR, insurance number, insurance card, deliveries, e.t.c
As for my job search, I was fortunate to get a job with the first company I interviewed with. I'm an iOS developer so the interview was first a HR interview, a 90 minutes live coding session and "meet the team". I got a job in 6 weeks of being here. If I could do it, you can as well.
Let me know if you're curious about anything else Wow, getting hired from your first interview. Congratulations!!!. Is switching to a blue card a requirement for the job, or this is just a strategic move from you? For your question, this is where Hannania would have been most helpful. And also, switching from Dr Walter to TK, how smooth is it, and any financial requirements? I'm also on Dr Walter's insurance. Then lastly, since you said you used SL, I'm guessing your sponsor helped with your accommodation then? Glad to see you are doing well, pls don't forget to find time to come give us tips on surviving there. Are you taking any language classes or you don be expert already? . Wishing you the best once again. |

Not that you owe us one, it will just help "us" (yet to come) prepare for what we about to face when we finally arrive. Your first 1 week, geting your phone number, activating your blocked account, accommodation, etc. And above all, how's the work search? Anything that you feel might help us settle quicker. Wishing you luck tho. Haliimmaa: Hi guys, please how do I go about cancelling my Dr Walter's health insurance and getting a refund? |

Just edit the amount and input the figure you are sending. Yes, got confirmation that I can send twice or more from expatrio. But can't download the "06 confirmation" until I have transferred the full amount. Omo, na the address verification me and dem cardremit dey drag since morning o. Hannania: You have to get a job in a "skilled" field. Meaning educational training is required. You won't get approved for menial jobs like Warehouse , delivery etc.
For Blue card, it has to be a job that matches your degree. Unless you're into tech and have lots of experience.
If you want to change fields, make sure you submit adequate proof. Because all these are checked when you want to submit your contract for a work permit in Germany Thank you so much for your insight. Talking about changing fields, I do have a trade test certificate to backup the training. Should I go ahead and evaluate that, and when and how do I submit that since I'm using my professional qualification to apply. Pls a little bit of heads up... do you know if our trade test certificates in nigeria are evaluated positively in germany? |

Pls house I really need your views on this; I'm applying for the opportunity card using the skilled worker route instead of the point based system (which eliminates the need for ielts and co). Now my professional qualification is in the "bottleneck jobs", but I don't have any experience in that field. What I have is 7 years+ experience in a vocational skill. My question now is, must I find a full-time job in my professional qualification or I can change to a work visa if I find a job (full-time) in my vocational training?? |
