rebekah2011:
I just checked the Q1 of Japaul Oil and Maritime Services Plc. Who are the banks that this company is owing?
Bank overdraft 2,167,932,000
Long term borrowings 412,996,000
Finance lease - current - 2,446,373,000
Non current borrowings - 17,501,015,000
Finance lease - 3,675,428,000

Total 26,203,744,000

Technically this company is dead. I am not mad that my investment in this company is lost but I am mad against managers of banks that see a dead or dying company but keeps throwing good money at them. Very soon the banks will have to write off all of these as bad loans but the Directors that approved these facilities will still maintain their exalted positions collecting fat pays and bonuses and the poor workers that mobilised the funds thrown out of jobs. Corporate Governance has to be strenghtened in listed companies, it is currently non existent in any company in Nigeria. I may be wrong though but I am sure that I am right.

These are the type of companies that FRC was established to monitor. But what do they do, they are busy chasing private companies all over the place.

IMO, I think there result will only affect there stock (Skye), and besides they are a marginal player. Serious banks have released there result since.

On the hand, Nigerian investors dont really punish public quoted companies for non performance. Bad result stock will start to go up...

Do your DD.

I beg to differ but stand to be corrected. grin It is neither a downgrade nor does it have anything to do with the companies' performances. The index is composed of stocks that give a close representation of other stocks within the same sector on the exchange. What is considered is attributes of the "stock" and its trading pattern on the exchange not performance of the "company".
................. if a company is removed from ...as you say "stocks that give a close representation of other stocks within the same sector on the exchange"....what does that say about the company in respect to the others in the industry.....?....

WSTC Financial services Limited --- Inflation spikes further to 15.6%
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please click the link " http://www.wstc.com.ng/uploads/reports/May%202016%20Inflation.pdf " to access our report on the May 2016 inflation figures released by the National Bureau of Statistics.

Highlight:
Headline inflation, measured by the Year-on-Year (YoY) change in the All-items Consumer Price Index (CPI), surged by 1.9 percentage points (pp) to 15.6 per cent in May from 13.7 per cent in April; over 6-year high. According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the upsurge in the headline index in May was due to increase in general price levels across all divisions that contribute to the headline index..

Analysis:

The Headline index maintained its uptrend for the fourth consecutive month with a steep rise to 15.6 per cent as a cocktail of cost-push forces continued to exert upward pressure on general prices. According to data supplied by the NBS, the highest price increases in the month were recorded in the Housing water, Electricity & Utilities and the Imported food sub-division which we attribute to increases in electricity & other energy prices and foreign exchange volatility.

Expectation:

We expect inflationary pressure to persist through the year. We believe the prevailing inflationary forces which include the recent 67 per cent hike in PMS price, increase in electricity tariff and other energy prices, as well as foreign exchange volatility will continue to drive increases in general prices in the near term. Thus, we expect inflation to remain at elevated levels in the months ahead.

Please follow the link " http://www.wstc.com.ng/uploads/reports/May%202016%20Inflation.pdf " to view the whole report.

Thank you.
