In many places in Igboland, the python is regarded as a ‘sacred being’ which no one is expected to kill, harm or maltreat. It is an age-long observance because to most Igbo communities, Eke or python is seen as the symbol of the sea or river goddess. It protects and provides for the people, both in terms of wealth, fertility and long life. To the people, eke is a harmless ‘being’ and it is actually harmless to those who do not kill it. To them, eke symbolises peace, prosperity and abundance, especially in the waters.

At Umuohi, Okija, in Ihiala local government area of Anambra state, a man called Ukata Nnanna in an interview gave a clearer picture of why the eke has come to be regarded as being so sacred and in some places is worshipped as a goddess.

"The story of eke we have heard is sacred and different. But before we go on, it is good to point out that the mystery surrounding eke is greater than most of us can actually understand. Our own case is quite peculiar. In the olden days, our people used to provide shelter for strangers. This was how the issue of eke became a symbol of respect and regards here in our village", Nnanna said, grinning and shaking his head repeatedly.

"There was one certain aged widow who was said to have been driven away by her husband people. She set out on a journey, a journey she did not know where it would take her. When she got to Umuohi, Okija, she stopped and begged our people to provide a place for her to rest her feet. She was by then too tired to continue on her way.

"Our people did not only give her a place to settle down, she was also asked to remain with us. Without knowing it, our people had given shelter and hope to a woman with plenty of mysterious powers. Before the woman died she made a lot of promises to our people. In the first place she asked that her house be built by the riverside. No one knew why she made that sort of request. But then at her death she decreed that no Umuohi woman should be maltreated by her husband people. And wherever she is married to, on the first night of her arrival, a python would appear to encourage and strengthen her. To date, this situation still exists; that once an Umuohi woman is being threatened at her husband’s place, a python appears, sometimes a very big one that would frighten people out of their wits. For this reason, a lot of people are sceptical about marrying an Umuohi woman.

"The woman did not even die. She turned into eke. She lives inside the Okpu stream or if you like river, which is along Owerri-Onitsha road, Anambra state. There you can see this big python and it comes out once the sun is out to suntan. This is what it does everyday. It is so huge that a lot of people are scared of it," Nnanna stressed. "But we the Umuohi people are not," he boasted.

The python which is called eke ogwugwu-mili therefore is said to be the mother of all the pythons that litter the length and breath of Igboland. Today, anyone who kills or maims eke either knowingly or unknowingly is compelled to buy all the necessary materials with which to bury it. These range from white cloth, to coffin, kola nuts, white chalk and so on. The coffin would be placed in a conspicuous place where passers-by are wont to pay condolences and show some sign of remorse. Where one fails to bury the eke in the traditional way, more stringent punishments will be placed on him and members of his family. Sometimes he would be ostracised or banished from the land depending on the circumstances of the death of the python. Some even have small pox sickness placed on them.

It is because of all these that eke does not bite the natives of Okija and other places where these observances are made. If eke bites one by error, all it does is to hiss, and then the bite will have no effect on the person. Even then, Christians also obey the law; they too do not kill eke. Why would anyone kill it when it does not harm him? Some people would often ask.

A 21 year old man, Abiola Olaniyi has been arrested by the Oyo State Police Command Area C for allegedly killing his parents, Mr Wasiu Olaniyi and mrs oluwaseun Olaniyi at their residence No, 16, Balogun Fadiya street, Molete, Ibadan Oyo State.

The suspect who disclosed he belongs to Eiye cult confessed to the crime “ i killed my parents because our leader told me to do so, i was initiated on the 17th of december 2019 alongside 4 others.

The Nigerian Army has found Boko Haram’s armouries that were hidden in underground cells in Borno that stretches from Bauchi to Jugawa and to the precincts of Sambisa Forest in Borno State. According to a statement by the Director, Defence Information, Major-General, troops who have been excavating various sites in the forest in search of hidden weapons, have so far recovered over 10 rifles along with parts and accessories as well as more than 8 General Purpose Machine, tubes of Rocket Propelled Grenades and Launchers, cables, wires and thousands of rounds of assorted ammunition.


Also recovered in the search are uniforms of security agencies including protective clothing.Meanwhile, suspects captured in Borno have been taken into custody and had started volunteering information linking the activities in the forest with other terrorist activities in the country.

There has been a reported case of CoronaVirus in Enugu. The case is of a 70-year-old woman who returned from the United Kingdom a few days ago. She started exhibiting symptoms of the virus and was quickly rushed to UNTH,Enugu. 

Upon arrival, she was allegedly rejected and the emergency ward was closed immediately. The report has it that the health workers (nurses and doctors) ran away for their dear lives due to lack of safety gear to handle the incident.


She has since been transferred to the Enugu State University Teaching Hospital (ESUTH), Parklane. A couple of tests have been carried on her, and her blood sample have been transferred to a Specialist Hospital in Edo state.

I have written a lot about how, without a Yoruba/Igbo Original African alliance across South and Middlebelt, the Fulani Afroasiatic hegemony can’t be defeated especially towards 2023. However it goes far deeper than uniting to gain control of the reins of power and destiny of Nigeria. It involves saving humanity.

A few times especially about 50 000 years ago, following the Indonesian super volcanic eruption, the Sun was blocked and the world dried out into an Ice Age, whereby humanity could only survive in Southern Nigeria and the Central Eurasian cave complex, where we became white people. Humanity only survived in Nigeria. Now once again we are reaching another epoch with global warming and we need to save the last vegetation, the true Eden.

Putting religious and ethnic agenda aside, the Fulani herdsmen are heading south because the North has dried up. Lake Chad and many rivers have dried up, and humans will do everything to survive. Due to their Abrahamist mindset, they justify their aggresions in the name of God. As I have always stated, I don’t hate any group of humans no matter what atrocities they have committed against my people.

I see everything clearly as interests, and there are no permanent friends or enemies but permament interests.

Now, some may argue that the poverty and Islamic agenda are enough reasons to justify breaking up Nigeria into Odua and Biafra, but fail to realize that borders can never stop a hungry and thirsty people from beating immigration walls. They will enter dig a tunnel or jump over it. Instead of sitting down to die of thirst, they would rather die fighting for their survival – shout down the walls of Jericho. So we must look for a win win situation or be guaranteed of Mutual Assured Destruction (MAD). Make we no go Mad oo, hmmm!

Therefore what can be done. First we must take control of the country and put some major changes in place which the Fulani can’t do themselves. Cow meat has too much of a carbon footprint and must be stopped urgently. Already, the Fulani herdsmen have moved the cows into our rainforests and if care is not taken our rich forest from Ogun state into Ondo state and Delta to Cross River will become barren. Now, our lowland rainforest supplies a significant percentage of the oxygen required by the world. If those forests go, we will be in serious trouble which will grow exponentially.

So, the question is what will the Fulani and other Afroasians in the North survive on? Unfortunately, the misguided Northern leadership is fixated on crude oil, which in itself is also part of the world’s ecological problems. The right thing to do is to cover most parts of Northern Nigeria with solar panels which will supply energy needs of the world and bring in huge returns greater than herding.

Most important is that the solar panels covering the desert soil, would keep away the heat and reduce lost of moisture, which will enable the growth of vegetables.

This would eventually bring about more rain, the energy will be used to bring up water from deep inside the Earth crust, and the ecosystem will change. The North neither has the resources, political will as invaders or knowhow to do this and would need the help of Southern Nigeria to make this turnaround.

And even after this we must ensure our water supplies are not poisoned with electronic waste by our smartphones by 2041.

There was pandemonium at the Ugbowo main campus of the University of Benin, on Friday when a graduate was gruesomely murdered by suspected cultists.

A source in the institution, who pleaded anonymity, told our correspondent that the body was later taken away by school authorities who came after the incident.

Another student who doesn’t want his name to be mentioned confirmed the incident, adding that there has been tension on campus since the incident.

“Yes, I can confirm it. The incident happened few minutes ago while the celebration was going on.

Efforts to reach the university’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Michael Osasuyi for comments proved abortive.

But a source close to his office, who confirmed the incident, said that the case had been reported to the Ugbowo Police station while investigation had commenced

Cameroon has confirmed its first case of the novel coronavirus , a French national who arrived in the capital Yaounde in February , the government said on Friday .

The leader of a Christian sect in South Korea is facing criminal charges, including murder, for allegedly obstructing efforts to control the virus spread.

Lee Man Hee, the founder and spiritual leader of the Shincheonji Church of Jesus, and 12 of his followers are accused of withholding the names of sect members who may have been infected with the virus.

South Korea has seen the number of confirmed coronavirus cases explode in the last week. The number jumped again to more than 4,000 on Monday. So far, twenty-two people have died.

South Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday said a total of 81 countries have imposed entry restrictions on the country over fears of the new coronavirus.

South Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in charge of the country’s foreign relations as well as handling matters related to overseas Korean nationals.

According to the ministry, 37 countries are barring the entry of South Koreans and foreigners who have visited the country in the past few weeks.

Buratai says it'll take up to 10 years to de-radicalise the youths Boko Haram have indoctrinated.

Since the Nigerian military killed Yusuf Muhammed, the founder of Boko Haram in July 2009, the Nigerian army has not been able to wipe out the terrorist group, but the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai has an explanation for the resurgence of the terrorist group.

Explaining why it’s been difficult for the army to end insurgency in Nigeria, Buratai said Boko Haram leaders and recruiters live in communities and also mix with the local population.

He said the terrorists have been able to operate for many years because of their mode of operation; use of propaganda and hardcore ideology.

In an interview with Daily Trust, the army chief believes the war against Boko Haram has improved from what it used to be years ago, but admitted that there has been a ‘minimal resurgence’ lately.

Police in Ogun have arrested a man who sat his five-year-old son in a heated pan for stealing fish.

The Police were alerted by neighbours in Oke Soppen area of Ijebu Igbo who reported that Idowu Sikiru was about to kill his son, Segun.

Authorities of the OsunState Police Command have arrested a 42-year old man, identified as Adesina Adeniyi, for allegedly being in possession of two human skulls and a decomposing liver.


He was said to have been arrested by mobile policemen along Ibadan-Iwo road during a routine stop and search operation.

The Osun State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Babatunde Kokumo, said the suspect was arrested on the 28th of January 2020 at 1:00 pm.
