Nairaland / General / Please , What Is The Full Meaning Of Mr Or Mrs We Attach To Our Names ? by Fortunehunter(m): 7:06pm On Apr 27, 2022
Often people address themselves by many titles, these titles have different origins and different meanings depending on the individual's origin or tribes. Most common among these titles are " MR or MRS" which majority of us here proudly attach as our titles. But the irony of it all is that most of us do not even know if opinion is sampled the origin or meaning of these common initials.

I had interaction with someone who informed that the real meaning of MR. is Matured & Responsible.

While the real meaning of MRS is Matured ,Responsible & Submissive.
Another interaction with someone else said MR is the short form of "Master "
While MRS is the short form of "Mistress "

MS Means "Matured & submissive " FOR MATURED BUT UNMARRIED LADIES.
So someone should help us out here which of the above is correct and also let us know the real meaning of
"MISS"

My experience with Phcn in this month of October 2020 is so frustrating. imagine that a civil servant like me who is finding it difficult to get paid of my monthly minimum wage of #30,000 living in Lagos and coupled with a lot of other challenges of transportation to work and catering for my kids and other needs being handed over a light bill of #21,000 for the 2bedrooms apartment, when I don't even have a working television for the past six months and since two years I parked into the street of I do no have any refrigerator nor airs conditioner. what I use is only 2 fans and 4 bulbs 1 for parlour, 1 for each of the two rooms and 1 for the kitchen making it a total of 4 bulbs.

I have called on several locations for them to do proper evaluation in my house, but they keep posting me.

When I thought I had seen it all, I saw in this same street SALAWU LAWAL STREET, OLODI APAPA LAGOS, Six flats in a building where each of the tenants was given #75,000 for only this same month of October 2020. That was the time I really understood the meaning of the word "CALM DOWN"

Please , someone should help us to tell phcn that we are not running factories in our homes, they should fear God o !

I really need your help on what I should do next.

Atlantic Shrimpers , a fishing company located inside Nigerian Ports Authority Phase 1 Apapa Lagos went aflame this afternoon at 12.15 pm 25th January 2020.
All efforts made to put off the fire by the workers could not yield any result as the fire had gone beyond what ordinary hands could quench. The efforts of the nearby company yielded but little efforts but because of the volume and violence of the fire it was not easy.
Unfortunately, the Nigerian Ports Authority that harbours the company around that has station in the premises with fire engine and workers in uniform who are being paid to fight fire in the Port premises were no where to be found. their fire fighting engine which had not been operated for the past one year is parked with dust covering the whole vehicle.
As at the time of filling this reports, the fire is still going more higher. Our government should wake up please.

Transgender man who gave birth with the help of fertility treatment loses court battle to be registered as the child's 'father'
A transgender man who gave birth with the help of fertility treatment lost his legal fight to be registered as the child's father in a UK High Court.
Born female, Freddy McConnell transitioned to become a man and was legally recognized as male when he became pregnant in 2017, giving birth in 2018. The 32-year-old took legal action after a registrar told him that UK law required people who give birth to be registered as mothers on birth certificates.
This establishes the first legal definition of the term "mother" in English common law. In ruling with the government, Andrew McFarlane , the president of the High Court's family division, deemed that being a "mother" referred to being pregnant and giving birth, regardless of whether that person, in law, was a man or a woman.
"There is a material difference between a person's gender and their status as a parent. Being a 'mother,' whilst hitherto always associated with being female, is the status afforded to a person who undergoes the physical and biological process of carrying a pregnancy and giving birth.
"It is now medically and legally possible for an individual, whose gender is recognized in law as male, to become pregnant and give birth to their child. Whilst that person's gender is 'male,' their parental status, which derives from their biological role in giving birth, is that of 'mother'" McFarlane ruled.
McConnell, a multimedia journalist for UK newspaper The Guardian, started taking testosterone at the afe of 25 and a year later had surgery to remove breast tissue. In 2016, he stopped taking testosterone and subsequently his menstrual cycle restarted before he became pregnant using sperm from a donor.

I’m saddened by the court’s decision not to allow trans men to be recorded as father or parent on their children's birth certificates.
I fear this decision has distressing implications for many kinds of families. I will seek to appeal and give no more interviews at this stage

Culture / A Brief History Of The Igbo Tribes In Jamaica by Fortunehunter(m): 4:07pm On May 12, 2019
Wah gwaan bredrin, everyting ire? Ever heard the word “red eboe” in Jamaica? Your suspicion is true. “Red eboe” was used to refer to the Igbo slaves in Jamaica because of their light skin.

Jamaica witnessed the influx of the Igbo race between 1790 and 1809, a time when the British had just passed the Abolition of the Slave Trade Act. The modern Igbo race dwelt in the Bight of Biafra in Nigeria. It was from here that the Igbos who were kidnapped and sold as slaves by the Europeans were taken to work on plantations.

While it is known that Virginia was the destination point of most slave ships from the Bight of Biafra, the majority of the slave ships from the Bight of Biafra that delivered the slaves to the
Caribbean Islands landed in Jamaica.

Cultural Influence
Jamaica’s history cannot be discussed without mentioning the influence of the Igbos. The Igbos influenced the culture, music, the pouring of libation, the “eboe” style, idioms, language and way of life of the Jamaicans. While a large number of the Jamaican Patois is from the Akan language of modern-day Ghana, the Igbos, due to their inability to speak the language, the introduced some of their words which have now become infused into the Jamaican Patois. Some of these words include:

Unu – You people

Ima osu (Jamaica) Imu oso (Igbo) – to hiss by sucking your teeth

Akara (Jamaica) Akàrà (Igbo/Yoruba) – bean cake

Soso (Jamaica) Sọsọ (Igbo) – only

Their yam festival, the Jonkonnu (A masquerade festival attributed to Njoku Ji (yam -spirit cult),
Okonko and Ekpe masquerades”, was arguably introduced by the Igbos. Most of the Igbo/Akan -concentrated areas are found in the northwestern and southern sections of Jamaica. Some of these are Maroon Village, formerly known as Cudjoe’s Town (Trelawny Town), Montego Bay and St. Ann’s Bay. In Maroon, there are some songs called “Ibo”. The Jamaicans are akin to the ways of the Igbos such that it is not uncommon to see Jamaicans watch Igbo Nollywood films.

Some photos of fully air conditioned keke Napep have been trending online recently.
The keke is a sophisticated version of the regular ones the ply many roads across Nigeria.

It looks more of a mini car away from the regular tricycle which has gradually taken over the role of motorcycle popularly called okada.

A lady was spotted test driving a gold colour tricycle as the machine comes in varying interesting colours away from the yellow and green popular ones.

The Painful Death Of ‘The Gods Must Be Crazy’ Star,N!Xau- The Truth You Never Knew
thekenyanweekly.co.ke May 6, 2019 6:49 AM
gods must be crazy
The tiny Kalahari desert bushman known as N!xau, who charmed millions of cinema-goers worldwide in the 1980s with his exuberant performance in the box-office hit, The Gods Must Be Crazy, died near the place he was born in the remote Tsumkwe area of Namibia, south west Africa.
N!xau was thought to be about 59, but said he never knew his birthday. The odd spelling of his single name was used for his film work, and the exclamation mark substitutes for the clicking sound in his native tongue, Ungwatsi, that cannot be rendered in English. However, the English-language newspaper, The Namibian, spelt it Gcao, and added a surname, Coma.
The details of his death are unknown. He went into the bush to gather wood on July 1 but did not return. A family search found his body, but the police did not confirm his death until July 5. He had suffered from tuberculosis. But according to the latest information from a relative,he was swallowed by a python at night.
His unlikely fame derived from the remarkable success of The Gods Must Be Crazy, which played all over the world from 1981, and without pause for three years in the US from 1984. It made nearly $100m. It was a disarming comedy of errors about the unsettling consequences of an empty Coke bottle dropped from an airplane on a bush village. N!xau, as the tribesman Xixo, is told to throw the troublesome item off the edge of the world, but his journey involves him in hilarious contact with white civilisation.

A sequel was released in 1989, and he went on to an even stranger career in Hong Kong, making three action films before his movie career ended in 1994. By this time he had made enough money to build his family a brick house with electricity and piped water, and he also owned a car – but never learned to drive it.

Nobody who saw The Gods Must Be Crazy will forget his slapstick driving of an open Jeep. Its windscreen is down and the accelerator stuck, but N!xau jumps on the bonnet, grabs the wheel, and careers off facing backwards and driving wildly in reverse.

The film was written, directed and produced in Botswana by the late South African film maker Jamie Uys, who also appeared in it. He discovered his star in his ancestral village with his people, the San, living in huts and surviving on a few cultivated vegetables and cattle, without electricity and only scanty well water. N!xau was illiterate, although obviously very bright. He had previously seen only three white people, knew of no settlement larger than his village, and had no notions of modern society.
When he received his first wages of $300, he let the notes blow away because he did not associate paper money with value. But he learned fast, and demanded 600,000 rand for the sequel. Uys arranged for him to be given some cattle – the tribal capital – and drew up a trust fund.

Uys said that the bushman was a natural actor, but admitted that the white man’s ways had two corrupting influences on N!xau: he learned to drink alcohol and smoke.

He is survived by his wife Kora, four daughters and two sons.

· N!xua, bushman and actor, born probably in 1944, died July 2003.
