I read different comments as to why we were added to the list, but most were flawed. I felt compelled to create this thread as to clear the general misconception that we were added because of Nigerians who travelled with NIV’s and decided to overstay.
The recently published Entry/Exit Overstay Report by Homeland Security for Nonimmigrant Visitors admitted to the United States for
business or pleasure via air and sea POEs for VWP(Excluding Canada and Mexico) shows of the 195,785 Nigerians that entered the US, 29,723 overstayed. Meaning 15.18% of Nigerians overstayed their Visits. At such figure, Countries like Burundi(21.52%), Chad (30.78%), Djibouti(44.67%), Eritrea(26.46%), Palau(20.59%), Syria(17.62%) and Yemen (27.92%) all recorded higher overstay rate than Nigeria. What then justifies Burundi, Chad, Djibouti and Palau not making the list? while Brazil with 36,289 far exceed Nigeria in Total Overstays still did not make the list.
Trump, in a proclamation issued Friday, said the countries were chosen after an extensive evaluation that examined travel security and measures, and national security threats in dozens of countries; those that made the list were chosen from a recommendation that U.S. officials made in January.
Officials with the Department of Homeland Security and the State Department who briefed New York Times reporters on the condition of anonymity said While Nigeria has partnered with the American military, the officials noted an “elevated risk and threat environment in the country,” when justifying the travel restrictions.

You are right. This video should provide more clarity for those who do not read to understand. This ban has nothing to do with security or visa overstays. That is just a smoke screen.

Please go and read the ban carefully. Visitor visa hasn’t been banned!!!! US will still continue to issue B1/B2 visas. So that won’t fix the problem! or scam as you call it.

Nigerians are poor and lazy and i reserve no apologies.

I would keep hitting this fact, the GDP per capita of Nigeria is 2000 dollars.

You fly into America on a visitor's visa and overstay to the level of 12% whilst those other countries you wish to talk about have an average of 1.2% overstayers.

Cry blood.

Scream about ineptitude of the government of the day.

Continue to hide your head in the sand.

Then it will make sense to ban the visitors visa, won’t it? But that visa will still be issued (the ban doesn’t affect that class of visa), so the overstays will still continue.

Ok. This is my two cents.

This is quite an oxymoron.

So US bans NIGERIA from obtaining immigration visas, but will allow students, medical and tourist visas. All this because of insufficient security measures, visa overstays, etc.


Now, the immigration visas like H1, H4, Spousal Visas, family visas, etc. obtained from the embassy are for legitimate reasons like work, relocation, running from persecution and the likes. This is for legitimate stay in the US at least until the expiry of the visas. About 8,000 such visas are issued each year. The conditions for obtaining these visas are strenuous and undergo rigorous scrutiny.

Medical and tourist visas which i think is where the challenge seem to be, only allows for a short time, e.g. a max of 6 months for the B1/B2 Visa, and very prone to overstays. Over 100,000 of these types of visas are issued every year.

So banning H1 and H4 for Nigerians because of B1/B2 overstays but you still allow B1/B2 makes for a head scratching moment.

So basically US is saying we want your money, pls keep coming to visit, spend money on your medical bills, education, travels, holidays but You must go back. We don’t want you migrating to live here.

I don’t see how this will curb B1/B2 Visa overstays.

For those who put kids first, and who give reasons of infidelity of the man and all sorts, You are assuming the man will be a bad man and the kids will be wonderful,

OK, Consider this, lets compare like situations.

If you had very stubborn nasty unruly kids, who don't care about you and who cause you so much pain and anguish ( we all know the type), and a man who is is as nasty as you say he is! who would you put first,

Also if you had a wonderful, fantastic & dotting husband, the envy of your friends, who put you first above all, except GOD, even his job,, etc, who loves, worships the ground you stand on, and you had kids like him, loving wonderful angels, who would you put first,

desthan , you hit the nail on the head, If one has that mentality, that the kids should come first (whether you have kids or not), please think it through, search the Bible for the truth about marriage and kids, Your partner SHOULD come first (you should love, cherish, adore, etc, ), the kids a very close second(you should love and TEACH them about God, life, respect) , Remember that your kids WILL learn about these things, relationships, respect and love as they OBSERVE how you treat their dads and others, so please be wise, Eventually all the kids will leave home, to start their own families with the lessons you have taught them "knowingly and unknowingly", and you will be left with the man you have relegated to the background, what will you do then, will you keep interfering in your kids life
