BS. This third pregnancy was the most difficult if my pregnancies. On the 24th December 2024 I woke up in high spirits because it was my DH's birthday and the children and I had plans to surprise him. He planned to go to the market to shop clothes ahead of a new work year while I wanted to dash to the hospital for a scan the doctor requested on my last antenatal appointment against the next one which fell on the 1st of but would be shifted till the 8th . We had earlier gone to the hospital at 5:30 so I could get a spot at the scan unit. After breakfast I settled the children and assured them I'd be back soon and even told hubby I'd return before him because hospital is just around the corner. I got to the hospital and everything was good until it was my turn and the Sonographer kept staring at the screen and asking me all sorts of questions. "Are you being managed for diabetes, high blood pressure, or any other condition"? I repeatedly replied in the negative. "What's your occupation?" I said I was a teacher and she went on about how I "always shouted àbí" and the next thing she said was I might want to show them the results at the emergency room just to be certain everything is fine and alarm bells began to ring in my head! I branched at the antenatal unit to show one of the nurses (Nurse Jegede) the result and she called out to the matron. They asked me to head to the emergency unit. Nurse Jegede handed me over to the team on call and left. My vitals were done and I was told to lie on my left side. I tried to consult Dr Google while at it and what I read about Fetal Tachycardia wasn't enough to get me scared yet. It was around noon then and I was getting impatient because the children were alone at home. I started chatting my husband to find out if he was home already and he responded in the positive,I told him I'd be home soon because I was just being observed for a while and didn't think it was anything serious. After lying there for what seemed like a lifetime I requested the Dr's audience and she came over. We spoke about what was happening and after she asked how far along I was,she said I would be allowed to go home but I should rest properly but she wanted her consultant to see me. While waiting for the consultant I realized I'd made an error, I'd told her I was 36 weeks 4 days instead of 37 weeks 4 days and informed the doctor. She said "Madam, this new information changes everything" and went to get the consultant. She came back to attend to some other patients and it felt like I was abandoned and I called for her again. She went on to ask for my occupation and I told her after which she said her consultant asked her to counsel me before he came as they needed to explain everything going on. After we discussed she asked if my husband was close by and requested his audience and I told her not to worry,I'd handle it. I called baba and explained that baby was in distress and told him to drop the kids at his brothers' and come with my hospital bag. He arrived at around two pm and the consultant spoke with us and it was unanimously agreed that baby had to be out ASAP. A call was made to the theatre and hubby went to get the theatre pack while I was shaved and had a catheter inserted. He was asked to take my blood sample to the lab for PCV test and it was 24%. Dr Onigbanjo called the consultant and it was decided that I should be transfused with a pint of blood and go into the theatre with another, latest by evening. The transfusion went into late in the night and they decided to wait for some hours to allow for blood circulation to reduce blood loss. I was scheduled to go into the theatre at 6:00 am on the 25th December but while I was having my bath a more severe case was brought in and I waited at the theatre entrance and gisted with hubby and even received gifts from some people on outreach. At about 11:00 am I was wheeled into the theatre and within minutes I heard my baby cry. I was cleaned up,i thanked the doctors and was wheeled out to the post surgical ward....
And that,my dears, was how I had my Christmas baby. Tankiyu. BA submitted, January Cappo take note. |

Ekabobo: Am going to be as open as I can with this writeup... firstly I know it would help smone in future... Secondly writing is therapeutic for me.
In 2020 Wen I lost my dad... I was heavily preggy. they hid the news from me. Thinking I'd lose the baby. Wen I found out, I cried all day stopped eating n sleeping but I carried to term.
Fast forward to this preggy...I happened to stumble on hubby's chats late September...my world crashed...even more painful was the fact dat I had been caving in to his demands for sex even with a cerclage stitched jus to curb his yearnings... N every antenatal my doc wud say... Don't av sex till 37 weeks please... N I'd reply... Of course doc.
My world crashed after I saw those chat... I stopped eating... Stopped sleeping... Stopped laffing... Cried all day for weeks...every one said remember your condition...I didn't care... Didnt even remember I was preggy. My job starts at ten am.. But I wud go by seven am...jus to avoid hubby... I'd sit on the steps n cry till d security come by 9.30.. after work I'd roam around till nine pm, head back home n straight to bed...no food no shower... I was slowly loosing my mind.
I didn't even notice the baby wasnt kickin as befo.. I felt if I didn't lose a preggy from crying Wen my pop died... Den I wudnt now... Besides how does crying affect a preggy sef... Dats ridiculous.
October 18th after I roaming about n crying my soul out, got back home around 9:30 straight to guestroom soon as I laid down hot fluid gushed out of me .. I tot it was pee at first... I was jus 32 weeks n edd was December 5th... I started screaming Wen I realized my water had broke... Hubby rushed me to hospital dat night... Emergency scan showed d cerclage had broken and baby was weak wit very minimal activity....had to have a CS asap... The chief doc wasnt around so I had to wait till the next day... I kept begging God please let this baby live biko... If I lose her I'd run insane..I had the baby d next day... October 19th...She weighed 1.9... very fragile n tiny but strong. All the oxygen tanks n poking n pricking her for veins, her head one side sef come swell...phototherapy etc is another story on its own.
We got discharged fourteen days later...hmm.each time I look her...i shudder in fright at what my life wud be like if I'd lost her...am jus glad dat out of all this pain... Smtin sweet n priceless came forth... May our joy never be cut short... Amin... Congratulations Mama, may your joy be permanent!💐💐💐 Please, for your sake and that of your children just try and take care of yourself. Your sanity and well being is paramount. May God be with you! |

I see other women looking fine during pregnancy, rocking their bumps in different nice outfits. ino understand this my own. Thanks Story of my life, sorry Mama. For the blood pressure you can get Obron 6 alongside your prenatal vitamins. For food, eat whatever it is your system and palates tolerate till your options become vast. Lesbihornest: BS
Sorry I didn't do this earlier. As a first time mom, everything still dey shock me and I am in the newborn trenches.
I gave birth at 39 weeks and 6 days. Just one day left to be 40 weeks.
I read that first babies always take their time. In fact I was ready to go for induction if she reaches 41 weeks.
I started purging a day before contractions started and by the next day night, I woke up to contractions. They were not painful, just uncomfortable and I couldn't sleep. I assumed that since I was not crying and wailing, that it is not labour. I went about my day.
My mother finally convinced me to go to the hospital and when we arrived, they checked and said that I was at 3cm. That cervical check dey pain sha I used FMC Jabi and they said they only admit into labour ward when it's 6cm. So I was admitted into general ward. The contractions kept coming and I started begging to be checked. Nobody took me seriously because I could still laugh and crack jokes.
Finally they checked again and said I was at 6cm. They immediately got me a wheel chair. I laboured for hours and when I got to 7cm, the doctor augmented the labour.
Once the drip started, I was finally relieved to enter 10cm and be ready to push.
To me, contractions are the worst. Pushing was a relief. I almost bite nurse ear when the contractions got intense. I pushed maybe 5 times and I heard the doctor say my birth canal was too tight before giving me a lateral episiotomy. After the episiotomy, my baby slid out at once. I had a baby girl at 11pm. She weighed 3.8kg and she is perfect.
They spent hours suturing my episiotomy and finally I was taken to recovery.
It was a relatively easy pregnancy and easy birth but still, I rate the whole experience 3/10. Will not recommend and definitely not doing this again. I am still traumatised
Wishing all the preggy moms a successful birth Congratulations on the birth of your princess! Lol at "definitely not doing this again". I'm sure someone will remind you when you embark on your next missionary journey. May God bless and keep the little one! |
