PoliticsNavy Again! Rating Stabs Prisons Warder.wonders Shall Never End by foshola(op): 4:19am On Nov 30, 2008
Not a few would have thought that the hullabaloo and outright condemnation that trailed the recent assault by naval ratings attached to Rear Admiral Harry Arogundade on Miss Uzoma Okeke in Lagos would serve as a deterrent to the men in immaculate white uniform.

Okeke had been beaten to a pulp and almost stripped naked for ‘obstructing’ traffic as the convoy of the naval officer passed by.
Yet again in Lagos, some ratings have brutalized one Isaac Oseteru Timilehin, an Assistant Inspector of Prisons attached to the Arms Squad Unit, Nigerian Prisons Service, Lagos Command, Kirikiri.

Sunday Sun learnt that the problem began when one Chinedu, son of a Prisons official, Anthonia, who resides at the Medium Prisons Barracks in Kirikiri, beckoned to a commercial bike rider. His alleged rude response to the fare proposed by the Okada rider was said to have provoked an argument, which attracted other colleagues of the bike man.
Unknown to Chinedu that the rider was a military personnel, he was said to have replied: “What is my business with that? Is this Navy Barracks?” when one of his colleagues queried him (Chinedu) for arguing with the other man.

So the Okada man, identified as Shaibu Suleiman Oseni, a rating attached to the Naval Air Station, Navy Town, Ojo, alighted from his bike and reportedly slapped Chinedu. This resulted to a fight before passersby intervened.
But no sooner had Chinedu gone to his mum’s apartment at the Medium Security Barracks than the Navy rating allegedly brought out his phone and called three other of his military colleagues and the four of them in mufti were said to have marched to the residence.

As they tried to gain entry into the apartment, there was an uproar which attracted a neighbour, Mr Timilehin, an Assistant Inspector of Prisons. He, however, drew the ire of the naval personnel when he queried their audacity to come into the Prisons barracks to start a fight and for preventing their entry into the flat.
An eyewitness said before they knew it, Shaibu had brought out a dagger with which he sliced the left side of Timilehin’s stomach open. Immediately his intestines bulged out, the naval ratings reportedly bolted.

Timilehin was lucky not to have died as he was rejected by six hospitals where he was rushed to, with his intestines in his hands, until the Lagos General Hospital accepted to treat him.
According to our source, Timilehin would have died but for the prompt attention of doctors and nurses at the General Hospital, who were said to have performed surgery on him from 5pm to about 1am the following day. He would still undergo further surgery as the doctors said the injury affected the intestine leading to the anus.

At the Divisional Police Headquarters, Kirikiri, Sunday Sun gathered that the naval authorities had rebuffed a letter requesting them to produce Shaibu for thorough investigation of the matter. Rather, the naval authorities have set out to investigate the incident.
Sunday Sun also learnt there had been several face-offs between naval personnel and residents of the Kirikiri area, prompting the residents to call for help. When contacted, the Director of Naval Information, Commodore David Nabaida, confirmed the incident in a telephone chat but denied that the naval rating stabbed the Prisons official.

According to Nabaida, the attack could have been carried out by one of those that thronged the scene when the fighting broke out.
He, however, said they were collaborating with the police in the investigation, and assured that the culprit would soon be apprehended.
Meanwhile, at the General Hospital, where he is receiving treatment, Timilehin insisted that he was actually stabbed by Shaibu Suleiman Oseni.

“He actually stabbed me and admitted in front of my younger brother Kunle; the Deputy Controller of Prisons and Madam Anthonia, Chinedu’s mother, that he did it.”
Timilehin further described the assailant as being dark in complexion and stout with a scar under one of his eyes.
Sources at the hospital told Sunday Sun that “the patient (Timilehin) urinates via a pipe which the doctors passed through the wound.”

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Chelsea (1) Versus Arsenal (2) by foshola(m): 3:53am On Nov 30, 2008
This is not the best of times for Arsenal. After two successive defeats, their glory seems to have departed. Even their title aspiration looks to be up in smoke. Yet there is no let up to their many woes. Tomorrow’s evening, they face another trying time as they visit Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in a tie the Blues are favoured to win.

An encounter involving the two sides any day is a thriller, capable of producing all the excitements and fireworks. In the past two seasons, four of their Premiership encounters ended in two wins for Chelsea, one for Arsenal and then a draw.
Interestingly, none of the score lines in the victories exceeded 2–1. And that clearly suggests the strength and character of the two belligerents.

But there is a cloud of doubt over Arsenal tomorrow, as they file out to confront Chelsea. Their poor run begun a fortnight ago when they were rubbished 2–0 at Emirates. Even as their fans were keeping faith that reprieve was at the corner, they got massacred 3–0 last weekend by Manchester City. Now, the big question is ‘will they survive Chelsea?’

Indeed, the Gunners can bounce back and surpass expectations in one magic moment, especially with the recent change of guard in the team’s captaincy. The appointment of Cese Fabregas as captain, might be the new dawn the team had waited for.

Manager Arsene Wenger may be bringing in Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Adebayor, who missed last weekend’s outing at the City to see if he could grind out some good result.
Tomorrow’s game is a most-win for Arsenal if they want to prevent their title chase from further crashing down the cliff. Now, fifth on the table with 23 points, 11 points clear from leader, Chelsea, there is no guarantee they will remain at the same place if they lose.
Hull City, who are a point behind the Gunners, look set to smash Stoke City today to shoot themselves ahead. That is why Wenger must play his best game, praying that something descent should come out of it in the end.

On paper, Arsenal look able to take some points from this game, but given that Chelsea, their hosts, are desperate to go three points clear from Liverpool, Arsenal’s chances of victory look every inch remote.
Last weekend, the Blues failed to score, ending their encounter with Newcastle barren. However, they may not allow the same mistake to recur, meaning that they are likely to go real hard on the Gunners.
Luiz Filipe Scolari may have learnt a bitter lesson after going down 1–0 to Liverpool on October 20 at the Bridge. Now that they are enjoying a five-game unbeaten Premiership run, they will do everything to seal victory as this season keeps looking like theirs.

Crime2 Kirikiri Inmates Fail In Escape Bid by foshola(op): 6:25pm On Nov 29, 2008
A brave warder on Thursday has arrested two inmates who wanted to escape from Kirikiri Maximum Prison, Apapa, Lagos.
The inmates were said to have used a long rope to climb the high fence of the prison and used same to come down at the other side adjacent to a swamp from where they took off for escape.

Our source said some warders were watching the inmates as they were escaping through the swamp until a brave one among them identified simply as Baba Egun pulled his trousers and went after them.
Baba Egun was alleged to have held one while the other on seeing that the other warders had blocked his colleague surrendered himself for arrest.

The two inmates were alleged to have received the beatings of their lives for having the effrontery to attempt to escape.
Saturday Sun gathered that some years back, six inmates used their blankets to climb the fence of the same prison.
Five succeeded in escaping while the fat one among them could not as he fell like a log of wood.
Public Relations Officer of Nigeria Prisons Service, Lagos State Command, Mr. Ope Fatinikun, told Saturday Sun that it was just a foiled attempt.

Fatinikun said for the past two and half years the command has not recorded any jailbreak. The two inmates whose names he did not mention attempted to escape through the swamp but the warders thwarted their efforts.
He disclosed that the command would be celebrating the two and half years of no-jailbreak on December 3, this year.

Crime“i Did Not Murder My Wife, We Only Quarrelled Over N40 Chop Money” by foshola(op): 6:23pm On Nov 29, 2008
.laments man accused of beating his wife to death

Homicide detectives at the State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, Lagos are battling to unearth the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of a middle-aged housewife and mother, Justina Mebele of Number 2, Oremeji Street, Oshodi, Lagos.

The death of the housewife is more intriguing as a result of allegations that it was her husband, John Mebele that beat her to death inside their room on November 17, 2008. The report made at the Police station after the woman gave up the ghost was that the couple had a disagreement over feeding allowance and during the struggle that ensued, her husband started beating her.

The beating allegedly continued unabated in spite of passionate pleas from neighbours until the woman collapsed and died later in a hospital. She was said to have kept on vomiting blood after the husband who fought with her left their compound. Reports said, their neighbours did not pick up the courage to rush her to hospital until some of her relations were contacted and they rushed her to hospital. Unfortunately, efforts by a team of doctors to save her life failed as a result of the quantity of blood she lost after the beating by her husband.

After she was confirmed dead, the family members reportedly brought her corpse back to their house and dumped it there for the husband. It was gathered that as soon as her husband was summoned to rush back home, he came only to be told that the wife he was fighting with few minutes ago had died. He was said to have disappeared to an unknown place prompting police to declare him wanted. However, few days later, he was picked up and is presently being detained at SCID Panti while investigations into the case continues.

In this encounter with the embattled husband of the dead woman, he stated categorically that his wife has been sick for a long time and that they only disagreed over the provision of money for feeding. The Delta state born husband of the woman who is from Abia State gave vivid details of what took place before his wife died.to Crime Guard;

“I have been married for five years and we have one child aged a year and six months. On Saturday one of my brothers came to my house and gave N1000 to my wife and I was there when he gave her the money. He gave the money because he knew our condition. My wife has been suffering from pneumonia for about five months and her family knows about it. I informed her elder brother when she went for test that cost N1,500 and we got drugs that helped stop the coughing of blood. She coughs and urinates blood and that is why she wears pads.

“Somebody directed us to a woman who claims to be a specialist on pneumonia. When we contacted her, she told us that the drugs were very expensive but we should start with those we can afford so I asked her not to use the money my brother gave her on any other thing but for the drugs. Later around 5 pm, I instructed her to take the money to the woman which she did immediately. Around 7pm, she returned with bad news that the woman lost her brother, but that she collected her numbers from her children. When we called her, she told us that she was with the rest of her family at Ajangbadi and they are meeting over her brother‘s death but promised to stop over at our house while coming home. However, we waited for her but she did not come.

“On Sunday we went to church. My wife did not go with us. She went to Chosen with our neighbours who worships there. On Monday when I wanted to leave the house, she asked me for money but I told her that I only have N60 with me and I asked her to take N40 for our son’s breakfast assuring that when I return later in the day, I will get more money for food. After my pleadings, she refused to listen to me but rather blocked my way insisting that I must give her more money. At that stage, I had no option than to push her out of my way because I had to go out and find how to get money for them. I have been unemployed for two years now I must go for jobs on time to be able to get something for all of us. As I was going out, one of our neighbours who heard when we were arguing came to intervene but I left him with my wife.

“ Few minutes later while I was with a friend at Oshodi, I received a call from a woman who told me that my wife had fainted. I took a bike home only to be told that she had been taken to Ikeja General Hospital. I went straight to the hospital and when I got there, they said she was not there and I went back home. The next thing I saw was the police. They said I murdered my wife”.

The visibly shaken husband who could not control his tears lamented to Crime Guard, “Why must I beat my wife to death?. Who will look after my small son? It was a minor disagreement and you know women, she wanted to vent her anger on me but I rather insisted on going out to get what we will eat for the day. If I had known that the whole thing will end like this, I would have quietly left her alone and stayed in the house because I know that when she starts feeling hungry, she would definitely get out of my way. What kind of devil caused this. She must have died because of her state of health and not as a result of the push I gave her”.

FamilyIncredible! Woman Delivers After 8 Years by foshola(op): 5:40pm On Nov 29, 2008
After eight years of moving about with pregnancy, Helen Oluwatoyin, 33, eventually gave birth to a baby girl recently at Christ Apostolic Church, CAC.When the news was heard, people trooped to CAC, a.k.a Oluwayamilenu at Kolawole Asade, Iju-Ishaga, Lagos.

Until she gave birth on November 8, 2008, she slept inside the church for four years expecting a miracle to be delivered of her baby. For eight years Helen was pregnant and all efforts to deliver her of her baby proved abortive.

Family members, relations, and those who saw her big stomach all these years thought it could be fibroid. Within the period the pregnancy lasted, Helen had undergone series of medical tests, and scan tests could not prove she was pregnant. Native health practitioners also failed her until she gave birth at Christ Apostolic Church .

On the day of the naming ceremony when Saturday Vanguard got to the church, she was inside one the mission's rooms where some women helped to tie her hair gear. She looked blissful, and the expression on the faces of those around was enough to tell the story.

Speaking to Saturday Vanguard she said : "My life was full of bitterness, but I thank God that today, it is celebration on my behalf. After my marriage, I had several miscarriages until year 2000, when the pregnancy finally stayed . I'm happy that my effort was not in vain.

Unfortunately, it was another problem. The pregnancy that I thought would bring joy to me became a thorn in my flesh.
After nine months, I couldn't deliver the baby.

On the 15th month, I planned to wash my stomach since tests did not show the baby, but I was advised not to do so. At times, I noticed that something was moving in my womb. The doctors could notice that the baby was breathing, yet they couldn't see it from scan.

All the places I went to confirmed that a baby was in my womb, but how it could be delivered was the problem. According to them, "this baby cannot come out easily except for God's intervention". And each time, God confirmed that He will perform his miracle, but I have to be patient, so I kept on waiting and believing God for His promises. In 2005, I finally got to Christ Apostolic Church, and the pregnancy was already five years old, but with patience and much perseverance, God perfected His promises in 2008 "

Narrating one of her past experiences, she said, "before now, I had one Alfa whom, my husband introduced to me and for three year, the man could not do anything. After using all his strength and knowledge on the case, he gave up and told me that, he saw one Baba Agba (old man) who told him that he wouldn't be able to do the work.

The man also took me to one Iya Adua (Prophetess), but there was no positive result.
Although my husband stood by me, at the end of the third year, he left. He told me, he couldn't continue, so he left the home for me".

"This time, I felt rejected. We both struggled before I took in. We spent so much money, but it was a pity that he was discouraged. So, in year 2005, I left his house. God revealed to me that he had married another woman who was also pregnant for him, so all I could do was to leave his house."

At this time, "My health had deteriorated and I was uncomfortable. Sometimes I had to call people for help since I found it very difficult even pick up something from the next table. It was so terrible, the stomach was abnormal ( much bigger compare to a normal pregnancy).

There were times that I felt it was better to die than to live and continue to go through the horrible experience.
"But, when I got to this church and was told that I would deliver my baby without any problem, I believed.

Today, I thank God that it has become a testimony. the baby came out exactly 8.40pm on November 8,2 008.
On how God delivered her she said, "On April, God revealed that the baby was hidden , but that He (God) was going to bring it out,

So, on May 25, I did another scan test at one hospital at Latona in Abeokuta. There I was told that the baby was in my womb.

Today, I'm happy that my baby is healthy, he is alright. Everybody is testifying to the glory of God that this is the Lord's doing. My parents are in Benue State. My father retired few years back. They all knew about the case, and they tried their best but all to no avail".

For Evangelist Michael Ogunleye, the General Overseer of Christ Apostolic Church, Oluwayamilenu, the testimony was awesome.

Sharing his testimony with Saturday Vanguard, he said, "On the day Helen gave birth to her child, a man, by name Alhaji Asore of Asore Area of Akute, who claimed to have managed her pregnancy came to my church and confessed that, he had managed the woman's pregnancy for three years. But according to him, he said, "one Baba Agba appeared to me and said that I couldn't manage the pregnancy, rather she could be delivered of the baby in the church", that was in 2004.

" One Aladua who also thought, she could manage her condition tried her best to no avail. "This man still came to me the second time and said, Baba Agba, came to me again and said that, the baby will not be delivered by any man."

On why, his church members took the responsibility to accommodate her, he said, "in 2005, the Holy Spirit spoke to us through a prophesy and said, "a woman with long time pregnancy would be coming to the church, that she must be accepted by the church. That we should be patient with her as the glory of God will come upon the church through her".

"Barely two months after, she surfaced and she told me that she was just passing by when she heard an unfamiliar voice that, she should come to my church, but that she was not pleased with the building and the environment generally". Probably, she was expecting a mighty building and well-furnished church, he added.

According to her, "The voice kept saying that I should go to the church, but I refused. For two weeks, I struggled with my spirit. I kept having different dreams about the church and why God wanted me to go there until I finally succumbed, she added".

When she came, I told her what the Holy Spirit had said concerning her and the prophesy of her unborn child, and how positively it would affect the church.

"But I also made her know that, there was no accommodation in the church. We were just building the church then, ( no window, door, ceiling, even the ground was not cemented). Describing the church he said, "it is about 15ft by 105ft, and not up to half a plot. "But she told me, "there was no problem, I know, the Holy Spirit was the one who brought me here".

Nobody, not even her husband accompanied her to this place, the Evangelist said. "I asked after her husband but she said, "my husband left me when he saw that the condition was not improving. I accommodated her based on Holy Spirit's directive. Since that time till November 8, 2008, when she delivered she has been sleeping on the bare floor because there was no room available in the mission house.

"I remember vividly that I got a lot of confrontation from people especially the landlords in the community. Some even told me, "we will arrest you if this woman eventually dies", they continued, "Can you defend yourself or is there section in the Nigerian constitution that approves of a pastor to be doing the work of a doctor ?"

"Then I suggested that, she should bring her parents or any of her relations at all cost but I'm happy today that her mother came all the way from Benue State to rejoice with her daughter after eight years of pregnancy", he added.

"For her husband, he was nowhere to be found until 2006, when he finally came to the church in the night. He was also around on November 9, but, as I'm talking with you, the man has not shown up.

"Unfortunately, Oluwatoyin could not wait for God's time, the pastor continued. Probably, he did not have the supernatural strength to sustain the situation. "I would not blame him because there is always a limit to what human beings can endure.

If he endured for three years and could not persist, that is how far he could go because he is a young man". May be, he was afraid of what people would say he added. But, I tell you that, the baby is alive, not deformed, hail and hearty, not even with a single tooth. It is very difficult to believe.

Confirming God's work, he said, "She had gone through series of tests but the result she got from the Abeokuta hospital, revealed that she was pregnant. She brought the copy of the result in one big envelop, but I told her not to open it. So I addressed the envelop to the Almighty God until November 8, after the birth of the baby that the envelop was opened.

At about 7pm that day, she vomited, so we felt she was under labour and we started praying. Around 8pm, she was tensed, we took her to a nearby faith clinic. On getting there, just by the door, the baby came out. Even before then the placenta and the baby came freely, nobody mid-wived her, but Jesus Christ himself.

When asked to explain what could have resulted in the delay, the Evangelist said, it was to the glory of God.

"Today, some of the people who had mocked her in the past are now witnesses to this great miracle".
For Mrs. Joy Ogunleye, wife of the Evangelist, the miracle was God's confirmation to bring glory to the church. "I'm full
Image
Miracle baby
of joy that such miracle took place in my husband's church.

"What I could remember was God's confirmation that the woman would deliver safely. Today, everybody is happy that she had delivered.

For Evangelist Efe Vigo, assistant pastor of the church, the miracle was to the glory of God. According to him, "there are certain things that Christians should accept. When God is ready to manifest His glory, number of years do not arise. What is important is seeing the hand of God and that is what we are experiencing today. This is a confirmation that God resides in this place."

Some of the neighbours also spoke to Saturday Vanguard on their relationship with the Evangelist. Engr. Attah Abubakar, one of the landlords in the community, said, "I'm a Muslim. I don't allow any Christian programme to hold in front of my house but today because of what has happened, I allowed them.

The case was a complicated one but today, it turned out to be a miracle.

For me, this man is a genuine servant of God. I have known him for four years and all he has been doing is prayers. At times, he disturbed me and denied me of my sleep because of his prayer but today, I'm happy with his testimony. If God was not by his side, I don't think he would have gone this far".
