It actually failed quite horribly in the gameplay department. It had clunky controls and underwhelming generic shooter mechanics. And do I even have to mention the never-ending, poorly executed quick time events? The only highlights of the game were the impressive visuals and that one decent weapon that has a muzzle the size of a redwood log, which still weren't enough to save the game. sniperwolf: |
And you're, without doubt, my favorite Internet user of the day. cocoduck: |
To be quite honest — and I'm not trying to rile anyone here — the COD series has barely made any significant leap since the first in the Modern Warfare line of the franchise. The yearly release policy means games are rushed into production, so we get the same increasingly bland title every year with half-baked campaign modes and laughable plots. Now, the best FPS I've ever played will have to be Bioshock. It innovated the FPS genre and had nearly as much of an impact as DOOM. Great gameplay mechanics, detailed environments, engrossing atmosphere, etc. I can't wait for its rumored current-gen remaster. |
I'm pretty sure it's not an Apple-esque ploy to rip people off. Some developers find it almost impossible to upscale to 1080p and lock down 60fps on the current console. The new PS4 model will have a stronger GPU, making it possible to attain higher visual fidelity. Besides, the PS VR will be released soon, and the current console is not strong enough to render the VR experience at a steady framerate. cube2012: |
Take-Two is the parent company with titles spread across RS and 2K, right? 2K Games has its divisions - 2K Sports is one, and it consists of a development studio, Visual Concepts, which handles the NBA and WWE games. Now, my point is centered around divisional IP developers like 2K Boston (they handle the Bioshock series, I believe). They're notorious for delays. hakinze00: |
Visual Concepts actually handles the development of NBA and WWE, not 2K. 2K in turn publishes both games. I was referring to 2K's policy as an AAA developer. The Bioshock series is a great reference for my point. And Take-Two's acquisition of Rockstar did not include a team overhaul, so Rockstar still has its team of developers. Now 2K games as a developer — not the publisher this time — is as much a pain in the a** as Rockstar. hakinze00: |
I don't think they'll have anything new to showcase/announce at E3 this year. By the time E3 is here, Uncharted 4 will have been only a month old, and they'll probably only be working on expansion packs. Their working principle is in the same vein as 2K's and Rockstar's, with our patience getting the blunt edge of it. hakinze00: |
I'm all for a reboot of Crash Bandicoot (I mean, look how well R&C's reboot is doing). Bring back the nostalgic Kart days! And I'm pretty sure I read an interview with Bruce Straley and Neil Druckmann where they said TLoU is not something they've been thinking about and would love to follow up. hakinze00: |
I might be wrong, but I'm guessing your slight disinterest in Bloodborne has more to do with the combat than anything else (I mean, the deep Victorian lore is pretty much consistent across the Soul series and BB, so it can't be that). BB is fast-paced and less strategic, which can be disconcerting to a Souls purist, whereas the earlier Souls games are punishing in their demand for calculated attacks and defensive schemes. On the subject of HZD, I think it will get a delayed release. Guerrilla Games mentioned that they're creating a vast single-player experience (meaning an online multiplayer mode is unlikely), so I think they'll try to buy more time to develop the open world. Besides, we haven't seen much of it since E3. Macrophage: |
They're both great games in their own ways. - If you want a game that rewards you for being creative (on account of its ever-present demand for thought-invested and tactical approach to missions), get MGS V. It has a beautiful world as well, which is arguably as detailed as Sucker Punch's depiction of Seattle in InFamous: SS. - GTA V... Well, GTA V's world is one of the best and most diverse in gaming history (right up there with Elder Scrolls), and it never feels convoluted. The side quests, unlike most open world AAAs, never fail at injecting some bit of novelty into the game. They both offer you multiple ways to complete a mission, thanks to the expansive level designs, so it's hard to place one's gameplay over the other. It really boils down to what you think you might like. |
As we pretty much all know, UC4 will be the last in the series (side note: UC2 is my favourite) - what new IP do you think Naughty Dog should work on now? I know virtually everyone will say a sequel to The Last of Us, but I think TLoU is one of those games that is fundamentally satisfying only as a standalone. The creative designers at Naughty Dog have a flawless track record, so I'm pretty sure whatever they make will turn heads once again. I want to hear (edit: read) your crazy ideas. |
That makes you the millionth person who has had that to say about SFV. The single player mode is laughably as rich as NES' SFII. On the other hand, I don't have a problem with Hitman's episodic release format - If anything, it favours both the consumer and the developer. The developer gets more time to improve on next episode's level designs based on reported feedback, and the consumer more or less fashions some kind of trial with an episode (the monetary loss is minimal), as opposed to shelling out the full amount for a new IP and then not liking it. cao: |
I'm currently playing Bloodborne. Yes, guys, I know I'm a bit late to the party - I held back on getting it at launch because I'd never really been a fan of Souls-type games (DS2 made me want to carve wooden voodoo dolls of From Software's lead designer and stab it repeatedly for every single time I got my ass humbly handed to me by a gruesome boss). Well, I found a good deal for BB earlier in the month, so I decided to give it a try, and it's not been a bad experience thus far. [Drifting away from the topic] As far as games I'm dying to get my hands on/most anticipated releases go... - Horizon Zero Dawn (I mean, who isn't excited about Guerrilla's new IP?) - Ratchet and Clank (I believe it's out already, and its visuals and gameplay have been getting glowing reviews) - Uncharted 4 (two words: Naughty Dog) - Mirror's Edge (EA's Frostbite engine = stunning visuals) |
