 TV/Movies › Toronto International Film Festival Features The Best In Nollywood by fourpoints(op): 6:20pm On Sep 08, 2016 |
All focus will be on Lagos this week as the eighth City to City TIFF program comes into play. The aim of the program which is to showcase the works of the film’s producers working in a city will beam its light on Nollywood. Nollywood which is known for constantly churning out a heavy amount of Indie movies year in year out will have the opportunity of showcasing its works to the world on this platform. Nollywood is also being rated as one of the fastest growing movie machine in the world which rakes in about $5 billion yearly. Despite the low quality of movies being produced in recent times, some Nollywood producers have set themselves apart by producing breath taking movies and TFIF artistic director Cameron Bailey said this year’s program will provide a big picture of the amazing works of these producers. ‘The Wedding Party’ which features tops Nollywood act will be the first movie to open the show. The executive producer of the movie, Mo Abudu is sure that her movie will stun the audience as it boast of one of the best performances from Nollywood. She confirmed the TFIF is an opportunity for Nollywood to showcase its talent to the world. She concluded by saying she is happy that Nollywood is finally finding its place on the international stage and every moment of the program won’t be wasted as it is a platform where the world will see what we can offer. The TFIF will also showcase interviews from top notch producers and actress, Kunle Afolayan and Genevieve Nnaji. The program which has in the past been a stepping ground for Canadian Actors will hope to provide a leap for promising Nollywood act like O.C Ukeje and Somkele Iyamah-Idhalama. When you reach a certain age you become a goal getter and always be result oriented. You tend to leave your old habit and begin catering for your responsibilities. You also start seeing life differently and your goal is to achieve more with less stress. Today I will be writing on traits real men show Matured men will never show up at work looking tired after a hangover. They understand that it is their job that pays the bills so they will prefer to show up at work with their heads clear, ready to give in their best. It is only youngsters who will show up at work after a hangover the following day. The difference between a youngster and a matured man is that matured men knows the meaning of days off and will prefer to hang out with friends during these periods. Matured men gives due attention to their partners, meaning they don’t joke with them. They recognize that they are more than their friends so they tend to give them more time and affection. None matured individuals will always place their friends above their partners. A real man will always go home to always see his parents. He knows deep in his heart that they won’t be around for long and the best way to pay them back is to constantly drop by and spend time with them. He does not see this as a chore because he has outgrown that phase. Matured men always put themselves first. They don’t try to please others at their expense. They know when it’s time to hang out with the boys and when it is time to stay put. At that stage of their life they realize how important it is to satisfy themselves before spending on their friends. Immature men will always want to use anger to meet any confrontation that comes their way while matured men will always calm down and look through the situation before responding. They know the adverse effect of anger, so they try to avoid it by all means. Matured men always see difficult situations as a challenge to them. They will fight such situations until their is assurance that they have dealt with the situation and have learnt from such situation but non matured men will always run away from such situations and will not even try to confront them. As we grow older in life, our responsibilities increases. Matured men will embrace this responsibilities, they don’t shy away from them and they will make sure they are on top of the situation. Immature men will pretend like as if those responsibilities do not exist and will prefer his leisure time to owning up to such responsibilities. While boys will always look towards the weekends as a means of lounging away their time, matured men make the best use of non-work hours. They make sure, they get the best out of every day and able to learn something new. Matured men have reliable friends not friends who they just hang out with together during Friday nights. They realize they don’t have to keep a big group of friends but a small group who are reliable and dependable. They don’t mind losing friends who add noting to their lives. Matured men are not scared of their weakness and they don’t mind displaying it in front of their partners. They know it is more beneficial to display their emotions than keeping them. They realize that showing their emotions to their partner makes the bonding process between the two of them perfect. Matured men are not scared of starting a family, it is only weaklings that will shiver when the topic of starting family is brought up. Real mean are ready to start a family. Matured men don’t live in the moment because they realize that it does not pays the bills. Though it’s fun to take advantage of life now and experience every moments with joy it is important to realize that being reckless today can lead to a liability in the future. So everyday right here in my little town in Africa, I take a jog around my area. There is a playground in the corner of a school. Every time I jog by this school I see this old man sitting at a corner of the playground with a bucket sitting beside him. On this Thursday, I was curious and I wanted to know what he was up to. So I cancelled my jogging session for the day and walked up towards him. When I got closer I noticed that the bucket was filled with grains. The man had a beautiful baby pigeon in his hands which he curled gently. “Hi”, I said. “I jog pass here every day and I noticed that you are always here. I really love to know what you enjoy sitting down here all alone with these pigeons”. He Chuckled. “Can’t you see am feeding the pigeons”, he replied. “An hungry man is an angry man, same goes to these pigeons. If they go hungry they would eat anything which might be poisonous to their body and then they would die in a painful way”. Puzzled and did not know what to say, I just stood there looking at the man as he dipped his hands inside the bucket and he released the content in his hands away to the pigeons. He continued. “I spend my mornings with these fellas out here feeding them. That’s my own insane way of a making a difference”. Then I asked “But most pigeons live there life as hunters hunting for earthworms and snails and will eventually die because they will someday eat the wrong thing”. “Oh yes, unfortunately they will eat the wrong stuff at a time and will die”. He agreed. Looking at him in disbelief, I asked “Then why don’t you invest your time doing something meaningful? You do look like a good guy but believe me there are over a million pigeons over the world which dies every day and these pigeons don’t have people like you who are ready to feed them. So……how do you feel your little efforts here is really making a difference?” He looked at me in amazement and smiled. He then dipped his hands in the bucket, and released a handful of grains to the pigeons. “Kids will always be kids”, he replied. “Son, if these pigeons could talk, they would tell you how I made their day every morning”. MORAL: We can make an impact in the world with our small deeds, they don’t have to be at once or big but with a good heart, a person an animal, and one good deed at a time, we can make a difference. Get up every day and behave like what you do make a difference. It really does makes a difference. Sometimes we think that our small actions are irrelevant and only big decisions have the power to make people like us but we need to know that our lives are shaped by a moment-by-moment basis which are all made up by the small actions that we do. Mark Cuban with an estimated net worth of $billion is currently one of the most successful basketball club owners. He owns the Dallas Mavericks which runs in heavy bucks into his accounts every year. Apart from being a basketball owner, he owns Magnolia Pictures, Landmark Theaters and AXS TV. One will find it to believe that he was used to be a bartender though some people will say he was lucky to have quickly cashed out from the market in 2000 at an early stage but luck is when opportunity meets success and we just believed that he cashed out at the right time. There is so much we can learn from Mark Cuban and here are some tips for you to doing it the Cuban way. Tip number one, do not persuade. For you to be a successful sales man you should not persuade buyers in buying a product but you should be able to let them know that by buying the product, it will go a long way in helping them. There is a big difference between selling a product and persuading someone to buy a product. Cuban realized this very early and as he once said “selling is not about convincing but it’s all about helping”. If you want to be a successful sales man, try to put yourself in the shoes of the buyer from this point you will be able to map out strategies in convincing the buyer that the product will fundamentally help them. Tip number two – Always work smart. If you are an ardent follower of Mark Cuban, you will have heard him say hard work is the key to success but he will quickly make you realize that hard work is useless if it does not breeds out useful results. What shall it profit you if you put in hours in a task and then accomplish nothing, it will have been better if you did nothing at all. The key to working smart is for you to be organised and begin each day with a list of task to be done and make sure every task is accomplished. Working smart is also about seeing an opportunity and utilizing it. Mark realized these when during the newspaper strike in Pittsburgh. He and his friends will drive all the way to Cleveland to buy Newspaper and then sell them at an high price thereby making a good profit. Tip number three, learn to save money. Mark Cuban will always say there is nothing like getting rich quick, to him, getting rich takes time and involves a lot of sacrifice. For you to become successful, you must be willing to live below your means and avoid buying things you don’t need. Cuban endured a lot by shunning the good things of life just to become rich, so same as you, you have to cut off some trivia things which you don’t necessarily need. All these will allow you to save money and have something to fall back on when an opportunity arrives. Living below your means is not something you will do for just a week or a month, it lasts for years until an opportunity springs up. Tip number four, avoiding going into debt. Mark Cuban will always advise young entrepreneurs starting a business not to borrow money to finance their business, to him it is not the best. He believes with a small capital and a great idea you can have a great business. Cuban believes if you can put in effort into your business and your product satisfies your consumers, then your business should be able to attract people to invest in it instead of you worrying of how to service your loan. Tip number five, Consumers are the king. Mark Cuban always advises entrepreneurs to always listen to their customers because if they feel respected then they will also reciprocate that respect back to you. One good thing about your customers is that they will always talk about the bad side of a product but a smart business owner will see this an opportunity to grow and will work on them. There is no sure way in knowing if a person cares about you but there are signs you can read to see what’s on your friend’s mind. If you want to know if they love you, you will have to watch what they say, what they do and how they react when both of you spend time together. First on our list is opening up. If your partner or friend tells you things about themselves that no one has information of or find it okay to display some stupid/silly stuffs with you, then you should be rest assured that they are cool with you and hold you in high esteem. It takes a lot for people to start showing their goofy side of them to others. They will only do this to people who they trust and feel confident to hang out with. Same goes with sharing personal information. We as human always have days in which the cards will turn against us but such days are meant to be short-lived when our loved ones are around. You should always observe how your loved ones react when they are having a bad day when you are around. Your presence should always lighten them up irrespective of what they are going through. If your presence does not make him/her happy then you need to take a walk away from the relationship. You also need to check out if the person gives you that am happy to see you stare whenever they see you. You know that stare and you also know it when someone gives it to you. You don’t get this look always but when it comes it gladdens your heart. If your loved one shows traits of being hyper active when you are around, they might be crazy about you. This means that your presence lights them up and they are always filled with uncontrollable energy when they are with you. Also, some may even laugh to your dry jokes. When you are in pain from emotional situation or ill due to flu or any type of disease, this should affect your love one too. If he/she cares about you, then they will want you to get out of that situation and come back to who you use to be. Though, we don’t except them to be down as you are but they will be willing to help you out of that situation. Observe how your loved one talks about the future. If they picture you in their future, they will always talk about you and make plans for you when they are making theirs. A solid commitment means they will always see you as part of their future and will make you aware of it. Compliments matter a lot in relationships. If your partner gives you nice compliments just to make you know that she loves your character and personality then he/she might truly be in love with you. We need to let you know that it is the quality of the compliment that matters and not the quantity. You know when someone says I love you not because it’s the right thing to say but they really mean it. A true love will always say I love you not because that’s want you want to hear or they want something from you but because they really mean it. Whenever you and your loved ones are far from each other and she keeps on calling, texting or emailing you just to inform you of how much he/she misses you, then this means she can’t afford to lose you. If you are away for a very long time and you don’t hear from your loved ones it means you mean nothing to him/her. Someone who really loves you will be willing to point out your mistake and errors at all time because they want the best in you. If your loved ones does not tells you your mistakes and errors then you should be on alert because you want to be in love with someone who will be willing to bring out the best in you. Also, your opinions will matter a lot in the life of your loved ones, he/she will be willing to ask for your advice on any issue that is of concern to them. They will do it because they value your input on issues concerning them. If someone truly loves you they will be there for you to make sure you achieve your goals, whenever you look back you will always find them there cheering you up and telling you to keep on moving. Most times they normally sacrifice their own goals just to make sure you achieve yours. If you have this type of people in your life, then you know you are loved. They will always want the best for you if though it is not the best for them. Understanding breeds successful relationships. If your partners knows what you want, what you don’t want, knows when to cheer you up, knows when you want to be alone, does lovely things to you and knows your favorite meal then believe me you might be heading towards a successful relationship. Muhammad Ali no doubt has left his mark on earth. His death shook the world and accolades keeps coming in hailing his prowess on and off the boxing ring. Here, was a man who believed he was the greatest even when he was infamous and through the years that followed he rose to greatness. Today, we bring to you some of his quotes which we believe if you take on will make you distinct from your peers. Your action does not necessarily connotes that you are on the right part but the motives for carrying out such actions will determine how successful you will be. If the motive behind your actions are selfish it will be glaring and your integrity will be lost. The reason for taking actions must be in the general interest of all and not just for yourself. Find your purpose why you are here and work towards achieving it. Find your passion, develop it and carry out positive actions towards making sure that your passion is fulfilled to the maximum. While fulfilling your purpose make sure that you are not trying to make someone else’s dream come true. So you should find your purpose in life and work towards making them a reality. Whatever tasks or projects you are carrying out, aspire always to be the greatest. The second position should not be your target but the first spot should be. Try to put in all your effort in whatever you are doing and make sure the result from your effort supersedes what it’s expected. Always aspire to be a leader and not a follower. The only to remain rich is to be a cheerful giver. If you truly are the greatest giving should not be a problem. You should be an ambassador of wealth who is willing to always help others avoid being selfish. If you really want to achieve your destiny you must be able to break free from all chains and do what you are destined to be. You should never allow education, religion or the beliefs of the society pin you from achieving what you really want to do. You are distinctly made and for you to achieve that distinctiveness you must not conform to standards. Love is the greatest gift of all, always show love to everybody by doing this you are attracting love towards yourself. As you move in the journey in life you will get discouraged to push on with your dreams but with faith you can go a long way. On your way up, you might get tired or weary but you need to realize that it is the stones that you have picked on your way that are dragging you down. These stones might take the form of in discipline, holding on to grudges and living in doubt. You need to drop all this in other to move at a fast pace. You need to realise that you cannot know everything, you should never be ashamed of asking for help from your friends or those who knows more than you. Make them your ally and work towards improving your friendship with them. You need to realize that as humans we cannot know everything. You need to learn from your mistakes. Went to the zoo the other day and what I saw there really amazed me. At a corner of the zoo stood an house with “shark tent” written boldly on it. Curiously, I entered the house, there I saw some people shouting in amazement. I moved closer to catch a glimpse of what they were watching, and low and below they were watching how a shark was devouring little fishes. So this was how it works. A zoo attendant placed a shark into a pool and then threw several smaller fishes into the pool. The shark as expected was happy and ate all the poor little fishes leaving none to spare. Then, from above a thick piece of see through glass was inserted into the pool, thereby creating two partitions and allowing the shark to be on one side of the pool. The zoo attendant then threw smaller fishes into the other side of the pool where the shark was not occupying. The shark attacked but it slammed into the glass which bounced it off. Determined, the shark still continued attacking but was unsuccessful after forty-five minutes the shark gave up. Each time, the zoo attendant threw fishes into the pool the shark got more aggressive and wanted to break through the other side. Finally, the shark got weak and stopped attacking. Then, within a split second, the see through glass was removed and you won’t believe the shark did not attack. The shark still believed that the barrier still existed between it and the small fish and it did not bother swimming towards them. The smaller fishes swam in there area happily free from harm. Moral: A lot of us after facing huge setbacks tend to withdraw and stop giving our best. Just like the shark we believe that if we were unsuccessful in the past then we will fail, then we stop trying. We should stop seeing barrier because in reality no barrier exists between our present position and where we plan to be in the future.
