I thought it was due to the financial burden of the roads that he could not complete the other projects he started in his first term such as the Anambra ICC hotel.
What is annoying is that everything is about what is reigning and not what is crucial for the state’s development. For instance Anambra’s airport in Oba was abandoned since 1982. Anambra’s economic and industrial growth was stunted due to lack of airport until Asaba and later Umueri airports were built recently. All of a sudden the reigning thing now is airport, airport, airport! While we still have so many other highly critical areas where we are lagging behind.
Part of the reason I supported Soludo was because I hoped he would reason like a well-seasoned professor and not a local trader. How is it possible that a whole professsor of economics would reason that even if Anambra needs 5 airports by 2070, we must build all of them all at once, without first developing our industrial base that would make the economy which requires 5 airports possible? It is simply called the “Theory of Comparative Cost” which Soludo himself must have taught his students. It simply means, use your advantages to develop your economy.
Now Anambra sits on vast deposit of natural gas that can easily be used to produce electricity, petrochemical companies, fertilizer companies to boost agricultural production to power that future which would require 5 Airports. When Soludo spoke about stopping Anambra being a “departure lounge” and creating jobs in Anambra to keep its youths from running abroad, I thought he must have figured a good strategy to use the massive gas deposits in the state to support petrochemical companies setting up in Anambra.
Globally, countries are plotting how to pipe Nigerian gas to Europe or elsewhere so they can build more power plants, fertilizer plants and petrochemical factories to support their industrialization and economic growth. Anambra sits on a massive gas deposit, does not need to pipe anybody’s gas to Anambra to support industrial growth. But instead of thinking how we can bring in companies to set up in Anambra and use our gas to fuel prosperity, we are fixated on building airports that we neither need nor really even have enough funds to build very good ones that airlines would prefer to use the new airport compared to the currrently existing ones. It is a case of putting the cart before the horse that I didn’t expect a sound mind like Soludo would end up reasoning like the usual dumb politicians in Nigeria and Africa that made Africa the richest continent in resources, yet has the poorest people.

It is very very clear that Soludo and his urchins want to use the airport as a smokescreen to loot. If work were indeed going on, he would have been sharing the pictures the way he did during the Awka to Ekwulobia road. Unlike Soludo’s trial and error style of starting one big talk about a project today, hype it to high heaven’s, and quietly abandoning it tomorrow. Then quickly jumps into another empty talk about something else.
Soludo’s style of talk talk talk with very little real achievement is very very worrisome. After a lot of talk, he quietly abandons the project and shifts to another one. When people raise concern about this lack of focus, he calls on jobless hoodlums like Chino to insult them. Well the jobless Chino knows from my history here that I neither respond to him nor change my opinion due to his insults. I am glad that Soludo has recently gone back to reconstructing main market after months that we feared he had abandoned that one too, after all the long talk talk talk and 3D pictures. We are fervently praying that the final structure of the Onitsha main market resembles the 3D drawings he boasted would be the new Onitsha main market.
All I can say is that if it is an airport in Aguata that Soludo thinks is the most strategic developmental project he could do, then he should do it and ensure it is at least of Obiano’s airport standard, with at least 3.5km runway to accommodate wide bodied cargo planes. If he abandons that project after spending state resources there as he abandoned the Anambra ICC 5-star hotel, my lawyers will personally submit an EFCC petition for a full investigation into this strange airport project, and proper punishment to be dished for wholesale financial indiscipline.

Following the completion of the Prof. Nnenna Oti Bus Terminal in Umuahia, work has commenced on a larger, world-class bus terminal in Aba. The administration is also pursuing the development of a seaport at Obuaku to facilitate the import and export of goods, enhance trade, and support businesses operating in Abia State.
Yet, Abia receives lower federal allocation than Anambra. Official FAAC allocation records for the first half of 2026 show that both Anambra and Imo received higher allocations than Abia.
The real difference in Abia's performance lies not only in the amount of revenue available but in how those resources are managed. Effective leadership, prudent financial management, and a strong commitment to transparency and accountability are essential for translating public funds into visible development projects.
I particularly feel disappointed in Soludo because I massively campaigned for him believing that he was a prudent person. So if he stubbornly wastes Anambra's resources in building 1 or 2 abandoned "airports", he should remember that after 17 March 2030, our people will use the Freedom of Information Act to demand for how much was wasted on those smokescreen projects used for looting.
The era when people stubbornly looted state resources and called it "by-gones" when they left office is over. If Soludo prefers to build 2 or even 3 more mushroom airstrips instead of helping Anambra to develop industrially and create good-paying jobs through building railway line to connect Onitsha, Awka, Nnewi, Ekwulobia and Aguleri, or building gas-power plants and refineries he should go ahead.
We shall also do what must be done to enthrone good and transparent leaders who treat the state's money the way they wouldn't waste their own personal money. Our Governors no longer view impeachment as an impossible outcome because we have instances where it happened in Nigeria. Similarly, that example of ensuring a former Southeast governor goes to jail for corruption and misappropriated public funds is a critical example for our democratic journey, that must happen for our people to also learn that a breach of trust in misappropriating public money entrusted unto them is indeed a punishable crime.
Anambra is a hub state by design, not by accident.
Look at the map. We sit at the center of the Southeast, South-South, and North-Central. We have the manufacturing base, the trading networks, and now, the logistics ambition. But if we do not build the structures to match this status, the future will be chaotic. A hub without rightly placed infrastructure collapses under its own weight.
By location alone, it is positioned to become the busiest airport east of the Niger. It is not a standalone project. It is the aviation anchor of the Aerotropolis, and it sits directly beside the Anambra Mixed-Use Industrial City, AMIC, already approved by the FG as an Economic Free Trade Zone. That is the difference between an airport built as a monument and one built as an economic node.
This is what it unlocks: Businessmen in Orlu, Imo will have no reason to commute over 45 minutes from Owerri Airport to his base. Traders in Oji River and Udi, Enugu will bypass Akanu Ibiam. Communities in Isuochi, Umunneochi, and parts of Okigwe now have a closer, more efficient gateway. Three of the four new cities Anambra is developing will be directly served by this airport.
This is not guesswork. It is planning. Anambra’s Vision 2070 projects about 35 million people living here by 2070. With our natural land constraints, we cannot afford to wait until then to provide critical infrastructure. We have to lay it now.
The concerns raised are valid. But they were taken into account before this airport was conceived. This is not about prestige. It is about positioning.

Dualizing roads makes sense for population centers not remote towns. Ever gone from Nnobi to Nnewi? Thats a lonely road. The UK is filled with one lane roads that they dont dualize bevause its not worth it.
Secondly, Gas masterplan is just a PLAN. Soludo also has a rail MASTERPLAN and many other plans collecting dust. We are talking implementation and you are showing us plans.
Here's the reality. Plans cost money. To connect Anambra to the Nigerian gas network will cost $10m per kilometer or 14 billion naira. Do the math from the nearest route into Onitsha to Awka you are talking trillions of naira. Its not a state project. Its a federal project or an NNPC project.
The best is that what Anambra should be doing is partnering with Imo/Abis and building transmission lines with interconnectors to take power into the state. Alaoji power plant can be expanded to 1,000MW as can Egbema to 750MW. These plants belong to NDPHC which has FGN and states as shareholders. Anambra can be an offtaker buying power and injecting it into the state. Transmission lines are far cheaper than gas pipelines.
Ideally, the SE states of Anambra, Imo, Abia, Enugu and Ebonyi should create a regional transmission grid company to run across these five states to wheel power from power plants in the gas basin to major cities. They could also co invest in power plant expansion which can be funded with bonds.

I urge the state government to wake up and start catalyzing power investments. Start with solar mini grids to supply areas like government quarters, schools, hospitals, business districts. The problem is that when a state government is constructing a project they need to do basics like conduct feasibility studies, perform cost benefit analysis and weigh their decisions against competing projects. Then you get away from sentiment and deliver critical infrastructure.
You mentioned power. That should be number one priority. Currently, the whole state gets less than 100MW from the National Grid. Thats less than 1kw per household. What industry can you develop with that kind of power supply?
Next time, you go to any market or shop in Nigeria look at the labels of anything made in Nigeria. Anambra barely registers. Thats why Anambra youths troop round Nigeria and the world. Little manufacturing = few services = few jobs.
Soludo claims he is building the airport for an industrial park but if thats the case why didnt the promoters of Lekki Free Trade Zone not build an airport in Lekki? No the first thing they built was a power plant:
Imagine three 10MW power plants supplying industrial areas in Onitsha, Nnewi and elsewhere which costs roughly $30m or N42 billion. The scale of investment it would attract from industrialists and jobs it would create would be more meaningful than a shiny airport that sees one or two planes land in a day while the other 6 hours the runway is empty and the staff are fast asleep.

Anambra is not interested in any state creation or partitioning. There’s no part of Anambra that’s interested in joining any new state. Leave Anambra out of any state creation because it won’t work. Soludo is interested in advancing the state more far from what he met on assumption of office. I have never seen you guys question why should Abia even build an airport at all since it’s with 30mins distance to Imo state airport. Ebonyi wasted billions building airport, but none of you took it serious to question why would Ebonyi even attempt to build airport. But some of you at the time were here hyping Umahi as the best thing to happen to Ebonyi state. It was clear from the beginning that Ebonyi airport won’t work because we already know their economc status.
Imo and Enugu state airports are not the major southeast airports as you mentioned. All the three airports in Anambra, Enugu and Imo are all major in their respective place, the only difference is that Anambra own is the most modern as it is the newest.
Anambra second airport will serve Anambra industrial city being built close to the airport, large population in Anambra south is also another boost to the airport, the airport is also strategically located in an area that’s in close proximity to the neighbouring Enugu, Imo and Abia state.

This raises a fundamental question: why is Anambra pursuing a second airport when the existing Chinua Achebe International Airport has not yet reached its full commercial potential?

Given these existing and planned airports, the question becomes: what specific regional gap is this new Anambra airport solving that cannot be addressed by improving and expanding existing Chinua Achebe International airport?
A more difficult question must also be asked: does Anambra realistically have the financial strength and passenger demand required to build an airport that can compete with established facilities such as Asaba International Airport or even its own Chinua Achebe International Airport?
Airlines do not choose airports because of political announcements. They choose airports based on passenger demand, profitability, operational efficiency, infrastructure quality, and convenience. If a new airport cannot attract airlines away from existing airports, then taxpayers may be left funding another expensive infrastructure project with limited practical value.
There is also a painful historical precedent within Anambra itself. The state previously pursued an airport project at Oba, which was eventually abandoned and later became associated with severe environmental problems, including erosion challenges. This history should encourage caution. A government must not begin another ambitious airport project without a clear, sustainable plan for completion and operation.
The deeper concern is whether large infrastructure projects are being prioritized because they genuinely serve the public interest or because they create opportunities for political visibility, financial expenditure and even opportunity for treasury looting. Across Nigeria’s history, poorly planned “white elephant” projects have consumed public resources while providing limited benefits to citizens. Indeed, many are abandoned after massive resources have been wasted on them.
Public officials who misuse government resources must remember that accountability can extend beyond their time in office. Nigeria’s anti-corruption agencies, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), have previously investigated and recovered assets linked to former public officials accused of corruption. The case of former Attorney General of the Federation Malami, whose assets were targeted in corruption recovery efforts, serves as a reminder that questionable government transactions can continue to face scrutiny long after administrations leave office.
Anambra deserves development, but development must be guided by evidence, economic reality, and long-term sustainability. Anambra deserves light railway systems linking the major cities, Modular refineries and use of its massive gas resources for a power generation to make the state self-sufficient in electricity and support massive industrialization. Before committing billions of naira to another airport project, the government should first maximize the potential of Chinua Achebe International Airport, invest in roads, healthcare, education, industrial development, and improve existing infrastructure that directly affects millions of citizens.
The central question is not whether Anambra can build another airport. The question is whether Anambra can afford to build another airport that may never achieve the economic justification required to sustain it. While so many critical projects that will boost industrialization of the state, support stable electricity in the state, improve IGR & good-paying job creation through modular refineries and light rail projects are overlooked due to "lack of funds".
A responsible government must not measure success by the number of projects started, but by the number of projects completed, utilized, and delivering measurable economic benefits to the people and the state.
You are the one that’s most concerned about the Anambra second airport even when you are not from Anambra. Soludo is on track with his projects and the airport is ongoing and not amount of deception here can change it. There’s nothing Otti is doing that should be copied by Soludo, instead Otti should come learn work from Soludo.
You can never compare a state like Ebonyi like Anambra. Economic size of Anambra is almost 100 times bigger than that of Ebonyi. The purchasing power of Anambra is more than 100 times higher than that of Ebonyi. While Ebonyi should pursue human capital development and educational development instead of airport and flyovers, while Anambra should continue to advance its economy through provision of more enabling infrastructure like airport, bridges, flyovers, expansion of more roads, etc.
So there’s no basis for such comparison between these states. Anambra is the economic capital of the eastern Nigeria and deserves all the major infrastructural development like the Aerotropolis, industrial city, etc

Despite the criticisms of former Governor Willie Obiano, he increased the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) by ensuring that Anambra became an oil-producing state, enabling it to receive the 13% oil derivation fund. He also promoted agricultural development by supporting the production of Anambra Rice.
Similarly, former Governor Peter Obi invested in SABMiller, creating a long-term source of revenue for the state’s IGR. He also established a state university and a teaching hospital, while carrying out a comprehensive renovation of public schools across the state.
If Governor Soludo does not wish to continue the legacies of Peter Obi or Willie Obiano, why not pursue a transformative project of his own? He could follow the example of Governor Alex Otti by encouraging companies such as Nestoil or Seplat to partner with Orient Petroleum Resources Ltd. to complete the long-abandoned refinery project at Igbariam. He could also harness Anambra’s natural gas resources to build a gas-fired power plant, similar to the Geometric Power project in Aba. Even a modest gas-powered plant supplying electricity to the industrial hubs of Onitsha, Nnewi, and Awka would significantly improve power reliability, stimulate industrial growth, create jobs, and expand the state’s economy.
If Governor Soludo wants to leave behind a landmark project that will always be associated with his administration, completing the refinery or developing a power plant would be a far greater legacy than abandoning another major project or constructing another airport whose economic value remains uncertain.
The experience of Ebonyi State should also serve as a lesson. The resources spent on building Ebonyi airport could instead have been invested in expanding agro-processing industries and reviving the Nkaliki Poultry Farm, once regarded as one of Nigeria’s largest poultry farms. Revitalizing such industries could have created thousands of jobs, reduced poverty, strengthened food production, and generated sustainable increases in the state’s Internally Generated Revenue.
Everyone of you always have ideas but even in your personal lives, you cannot even apply it, instead you people camp here to deceive yourselves. Soludo is working on many things including power projects, aerotropolis, industrial city, medical university, etc. Anambra is doing great as the most developed Igbo state. Gbogboski: Anambra state sits on a gas basin, which is the critical fuel for electricity generation. A power plant the size of Geometric Aba will have a steady source of gas to power it, which will be definitely,a game changer for for the massive industrialization if Anambra state.
If I were the governor of Anambra state,a 250 MW power plant will be by far more of a priority for me than a second airport. Especially now that electricity generation have been removed from the federal exclusive list.

Cjrane2: The same problem that has bedeviled development in Nigeria has become so intractable that unless wastage of public funds is severely punished, our politicians will continue to trap us in perpetual poverty and underdevelopment through wasteful expenditure.
Since independence, not a single hospital or university in Nigeria is of even South African standard because one government will start a university or general hospital, then the next government will abandon them and build their own equally substandard hospital without bothering to equip the already existing ones to basic standards. So we end up having multiple substandard facilities everywhere.
Why can’t Soludo focus on ensuring international cargo flights begin at the Chinua Achebe international airport by building standard cargo sheds and bringing in specialized heavy duty equipment and establishing a state agency to coordinate with Onitsha and Nnewi based importers to use chartered airfreight flights to cheaply bring cargo from China and Dubai even if it is a weekly freight flight? Many small African countries have such arrangements with Ethiopian airlines.
I think Soludo is likely looking for avenues to massively loot the state to build a war chest of funds for his presidential ambition after his tenure ends. Unfortunately for him, in Nigeria, when Igbo politicians steal, the full weight of the law will fall upon them.
One point about South Africans expelling Nigerians from their country is that they asked us to go back home and fight for your country. It is so accurate because we leave these politicians to waste our common resources that could be used to build good refineries, power plants and other good paying jobs at home using our God-given oil and other resources- to run to other countries to drag their own jobs and resources with them.
I have always been a Soludo supporter but I also know that he is frustratingly stubborn and always likes to prove a point even when he is clearly missing the point. So Soludo must be ready to forfeit all his Abuja and Isuofia properties as well as spend a long time in jail if he thinks he can merely waste resources and abandon some cleared bush paths somewhere and claim those were the billions of naira he spent on Anambra 2nd airfield. Personally I will ensure I submit multiple petitions to EFCC to investigate the veracity of claims made in reference of to this project if he abandoned it after claiming to spend billions of state funds on a clearly white elephant project
