Anambra airport is just barely 5yrs old, but it is doing far better than other airports in SE that have been there for 30 and 50yrs. The new Aerotropolis international airport will be a game changer because it has FTZ incorporated in it. That’s how to measure his successful an airport is doing. Anambra airport generate over 50million every month and that’s the highest of any airport in SE. Bunch of envious bitter people. You people should go and focus on your states.

Achebe international airport will still be there and function, the new airport is an aerotropolis that comes with FTZ, mix industrial city, etc. they serve different purposes. All these is just to answer a simple question. Please take note that there’s nothing developed about Enugu. Most of Enugu is slum and also Enugu lacks water.

Cities are marked by economic, infrastructure, and population density. Only Lagos, PH, Onitsha, Kano and maybe aba fits into this.

Enugu is where people cannot live and make economic progress because it is not an economic inclined city. Cities like Enugu, Asaba, Awka, Owerri etc, are civil servants cities and not where people that want to do massive businesses like we see in Lagos, PH and Onitsha base.

On the other side, Enugu state as a state is not also among the top most developed states in Nigeria. Here are the most developed states in Nigeria: Lagos, Rivers, Anambra, Delta and Kano. You can also google it and confirm. Enugu state is not even on the list of the top ten most developed states in Nigeria.

Here are the indicators of development at sub national level: GPD, overall infrastructure, HDI, education, literacy rate, poverty rate, etc, in all of these Enugu state is ranking poorly. I can go on and on. Accept the truth and move on.

No matter what, MBAH is trying, not up to 4yrs and you're already seeing his achievements, I'm from Imo State, based in Aba, but I works at Enugu sometimes, at least I went their once in a month and stayed up to 3 or 4 days, and I telling you what I'm seeing not media propaganda, I knew how much he invested already in the water sector and its failed, even though the contractors are China company i think CCECC (i might be mistaken, but it looks like them) and he keep on doing it, Enugu water issue is very big, even the federal government supposed to collaborate with the state to find the unending solution of water crisis in the state.

We planned to use it for our conference and found out it is almost fully booked all day. This is great in terms of revenue including the tourism potential component.

It's really strategic. And now with the Conference International Hotel proposed to be managed by Marriots coming on board, the economic effect will be massive within that ecosystem.

I'm still regretting the former governors of my state (Abia) Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, T.A Orji and OUK, these people are worse than corruption, thanks to Alex Otti for rehabilitating the state now.

He is not planning, he is already constructing an aerotropolis international airport. The project has been awarded and contractors are already on site. Soludo has done well and keep doing; he has done many dual carriageways across the state to connect the cities, that’s the first state before building bus terminals, putting the necessary infrastructures on ground. That’s the mistake other states made, rushing to build bus terminals without necessary infrastructures to link up the state with dual carriageways and other necessary facilities.

Anambra already has the Chinua Achebe International Airport at Umueri, while Asaba International Airport is roughly one to two hours away by road for many parts of the state. Rather than building another airport in such close proximity, it may be more prudent to continue developing the existing airport into a fully competitive passenger and cargo hub with modern cargo terminals, maintenance facilities, logistics infrastructure, and better transport connections.

Major Nigerian commercial centres illustrate this approach. Lagos, Kano, Abuja, and Port Harcourt each rely primarily on one major international airport that has received continuous investment over the years, rather than building multiple airports within short driving distances of one another.

For example, Lagos has invested heavily in urban mass transit through the Lagos Rail Mass Transit system, including the Blue Line and Red Line, to reduce congestion and improve mobility. Addis Ababa transformed urban transportation by building the Addis Ababa Light Rail—the first modern light rail system in sub-Saharan Africa—which now serves hundreds of thousands of commuters. Abuja has also developed the Abuja Rail Mass Transit, connecting the city centre with the airport corridor and laying the foundation for future expansion. These examples demonstrate how strategic rail investments can stimulate economic growth, reduce traffic congestion, and improve the quality of urban life.

Anambra could similarly explore developing an urban rail or light rail network linking Awka, Onitsha, Nnewi, and neighbouring commercial centres. Such a system could significantly reduce road congestion while supporting commerce and industrial development.

Beyond rail transport, several other infrastructure priorities could have a transformative impact on the state's economy:

Dualize major highways and construct additional flyovers to eliminate traffic bottlenecks.
Develop independent power plants that utilize the state's natural gas resources to improve electricity supply for industries and households.
Encourage investment in modular refineries and downstream petroleum industries where commercially and environmentally viable.
Redevelop commercial districts by constructing modern shopping centres with adequate parking, sanitation, fire safety systems, and recreational facilities, reducing pressure on aging markets such as Onitsha Main Market.
Collaborate with neighbouring states and the Federal Government to improve rail connectivity between Onitsha, Enugu, and the Onne Port corridor, making it easier for imported goods to reach commercial markets.
Build modern intercity bus terminals in Awka, Onitsha, and Nnewi similar to those recently developed in cities such as Umuahia and Enugu.
Invest in world-class universities, teaching hospitals, research centres, and specialist medical facilities that can attract professionals and reduce medical tourism.
Upgrade Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University with modern laboratories, lecture halls, student accommodation, and research infrastructure.

Anambra remains one of Nigeria's most commercially vibrant states, but significant investments are still needed in transportation, healthcare, education, energy, urban planning, and industrial infrastructure.

For these reasons, if another airport is indeed being proposed, I believe the government should clearly explain the economic justification, projected passenger demand, financing model, expected return on investment, and how the project compares with other pressing infrastructure priorities. Transparent public engagement would help citizens understand why another airport should take precedence over projects that many may consider more urgent.

You have come back to this thread again after Achebe airport. The new airport is already under construction, so stop worrying yourself , because we don’t need your input on anytimg concerning Anambra. Anambra is not interested in any state creation of a sort in SE. If other SE states wants state creation, they should go on. Anambra is a monolith state and will not get involved in state partitioning.

The Chinua Achebe airport does roughly 300 passengers per day or roughly N1m in revenue per day. The yearly revenue of less than 400m yearly means that it is effectively subsidized by the ANSG because that is not going to be enough to run power, pay salaries and upkeep the tremendous capital costs of maintenance.

Building a second airport is foolishness or a looting opportunity. Some say Soludo is building it for a proposed new South East state promoting Ekwulobia as the capital but its grand foolishness.

If he wants to leave a fundamental legacy project there are far more impactful things he can do such as many that you suggest. Indeed, if transport is his concern its about time the state organizes transport with modern buses and phases out keke anx shuttle buses.

Where are the substandard Mbah bus terminals? Has it been put to use? If it was Soludo that invested in airline like Mbah, you all would still come here to post nonsense. But Mbah is hailed for wasting state resources on a refurbished aircraft, something Okorocha did in the past and we know how it ended.

Soludo has done more projects than any southeast governor and keep doing. Other states in the region should come to Soludo and learn work. Soludo is the best governor out of southeast.
