Politics / Beyond Chief Olu Falae's Kidnap By Femi Falana by foxe(m): 10:12pm On Oct 12, 2015 |
In October 2010, a traditional ruler and a college provost were abducted in Ekiti state by a gang of kidnappers. While the bandits were taking the victims to a hideout in Delta state, a fatal accident occurred at Kabba in Kogi State. Both victims were killed while the kidnappers were seriously injured. The criminal elements were promptly arrested by the police and charged to court by the Kogi state ministry of justice. Although the trial court ordered that the kidnap suspects be remanded in prison custody, they escaped last year during a violent attack on the Lokoja prison by unknown gunmen. Shortly after that, the wife of the Speaker of Osun state was abducted in Osogbo. She was later found by a vigilante group in Ogun state. In Lagos, the chairperson of Ejigbo local government was abducted. He was released upon the payment of a ransom of N15m. Since then several persons have been kidnapped and released upon payment of ransom negotiated by their family members. Notwithstanding such incidents of kidnapping the south-west zone was considered relatively safe. But the crisis of insecurity of life and property in the region became exacerbated after the 2015 general elections following the retrenchment of hundreds of armed political thugs and the escape of a number of prisoners at the prisons in Ado Ekiti, Akure and Sagamu in the last couple of years. The few kidnap suspects who were arrested were not charged to any court by the police while the prison management did not declare any of the prison escapees wanted. No doubt, the kidnap of Chief Olu Falae, a former secretary to the federal government in his farm in the outskirt of Akure, Ondo state last month added a new dimension to the kidnap saga in the region. Embarrassed by the development President Mohammadu Buhari directed the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase to secure the release of the Chief. Barely 24 hours later Chief Falae regained his freedom after the payment of ransom by his family. Upon his dramatic escape from captivity, Chief Falae disclosed that his abductees spoke "good English". Based on such disclosure it is doubtful if the criminals who kidnapped Chief Falae are Fulani nomads. However, Chief Falae announced last week that his farm had been invaded vi et armis and taken over by a group of Fulani nomads. In a classical display of impunity, the Nigeria Police Force has failed to dislodge the lawless group. Instead of calling on the security agencies to enforce the law by arresting and prosecuting the group, some Yoruba leaders threatened that the south-west region would secede from Nigeria if Fulani nomads are not banned from entering the region! It is unfortunate that the senior citizens who issued the threat did not address the legal implications of their demand. It ought to be pointed out that every Nigerian has a constitutional right not be expelled from any part of the country. Leaders of the various ethnic groups should be worried over the involvement of educated young men and women in the menace of kidnapping throughout the country. Chief Falae is likely to be pained that the illegal occupation of his farm by a criminal gang may degenerate to civil disturbances between Yoruba farmers and Fulani nomads. More so, that Chief Falae was at the 2014 National Conference where it was unanimously agreed by delegates that "In the long term cattle routes and grazing reserves be phased out to lay emphasis on ranching " and that states which have large livestock populations should "endeavor to maintain grazing reserves." It was further resolved that "An integrated development and livelihoods modernization program should be designed and implemented to address the issue of settling nomadic herdsmen into settled communities based on established cattle ranches with fodder development technologies, and including abattoirs, processors and other businesses along the livestock value chain." The recommendations have been ignored by the Federal Government. > It is on record that not less than 10,000 heads of cattle are consumed in the south- west daily. The majority of the heads of cattle are brought in malnourished having been made to walk hundreds of kilometres from the northern part of the country. Instead of issuing threats the Yoruba leaders ought to have mobilized the south-west state governors to set up ranches and abattoirs for the production and distribution of meat in the region. For instance, through a PPP arrangement a modern abattoir, the largest in Africa, was built in Ibadan, Oyo State in 2011. But due to some inexplicable reasons the state government has refused to allow the abattoir to function. The Ekiti state government once had a ranch. It was established by the Adekunle Ajasin government in the second republic. But it has since collapsed due to lack of maintenance. This is not the time to resort to diversionary or escapist solutions to man-made problems. The ruling class should be compelled to address the challenges of establishing livestock, grazing reserves, ranching and modernization of pastoralist or nomadic livelihood in line with the aforesaid recommendations. In conclusion, the police should move speedily to dislodge the armed bandits who have seized Chief Falae's farm. The Yoruba leaders should consult with the south-west state governors with a view to addressing the increasing wave of insecurity of life and property in the region. All prison escapees should be declared wanted and fished out by the police. Governments should embark on the massive creation of jobs for the army of unemployed youths. In addressing the crisis of policing the country, state and local governments should be allowed to set up security outfits. Since northern governors are worried over cattle rustling, their southern colleagues should link up with them with a view to having a holistic approach to the establishment of grazing zones, ranches and abattoirs. Unless these measures are adopted, the country will continue to witness insecurity of life and property. You are not so blind with patriotism, that
you can’t face reality. Wrong is wrong, no
matter who does it or says it-—- Malcom X I AM one of those , who never wished that APC, with President Muhammadu Buhari, PMB, would lead this country. It was not because we supported the ways of the ruling PDP at that time, but because we had our fears, about that change slogan, some of which are now manifesting in PMB’s government. Our fears included first, that as Christians, the killings and burning of churches will continue under PMB, but will be seriously suppressed from the public. Today, we hear less of the wickedness against Christians in the north. We do not understand why this is so, while Boko Haram has continued to kill in the North East. Over three months of APC government, Chibok Girls are yet to be recovered, for example, confirming our fear that the whole noise about Chibok Girls was to push GEJ, out of power. Politics apart, we are all parents, and those parents, who chose to use the Chibok Girls as propaganda instruments should be hiding their heads in shame, because politics should be fair, and honest, with some integrity. Our second fear was that PMB has been portrayed as a hater of the Igbos, and that he would not only push the South East to the back bench in his policies as President, but would also initiate actions to Islamise that zone that voted massively for the PDP. In Imo State, which is presently APC, their Governor was generally regarded as having betrayed the Igbo man. Today, that fear has proved genuine, as Governor Okorocha, is the one calling for calm among Ndigbo, in the wake of the appointment by PMB of his Kitchen Cabinet members, to the complete exclusion of the the South East. Governor Okorocha, and his colleagues in politics without identity, would have seen by now that they backed the wrong horse as Ndigbo. If out of 42 appointments of persons who would have close contact with PMB almost on daily basis, not one Igbo man qualified, in terms of merit and confidence by PMB, what else do they want the man to say? Is the message not clear ? The best known method for Nigerian Leaders to kill any project is to subject it to what they call ‘a review’. The review of the second Niger bridge is to tell those who are honest to themselves that the project is dead under PMB, and no thanks to the Governor of Edo State, who may claim to be fighting corruption, but his attacks against that project has made him a manifest instrument in the hands of the enemies of Ndigbo. He may have his reasons for teaming up with Igbo haters, my only concern is for Ndigbo who have failed to read this hand writing on the wall. Our third fear was that PMB would islamise the South East. The first shot from him was the transfer of Boko Haram suspects from Maiduguri to Ekwulobia in Anambra State. In spite of the furore that followed that decision, we are yet to confirm what government has done to relocate those men. The matter seems to have died down, with the usual ignominy with which they treat issues that concern Ndigbo generally. The recent alert issued by the DSS and the Army about presence of Boko Haram agents in Lagos and the South East, leaves it up to the people to decide what to do to keep terror out of their regions, no matter what politicians say. Thirdly, we feared that PMB would kill the implementation of the Confab Report, simply because the South East among others has something to gain from it. It ought to be obvious that the whole efforts to swing power back to the north were to prevent power from getting to Ndigbo, who rather than weep, should brace up boldly, work harder to put their houses in order, and ensure that come 2019, their earnest expectations shall not be cut off, not even by the common sense revolutionists in the South West. Just like we say in Igbo land, the masquerade that blocks the road upon sighting me, will not shift grounds when he sees others too. Igbo haters will not change till their judgment by God comes upon them suddenly. Today, all we get are denials of electoral promises, ranging from the election campaign promise that the Price of Petrol would be reduced to N40/Litre if elected, the second Niger bridge for the South East, the provision of thousands of jobs for our teeming un employed youth within the first 100 days, to the promise of being the President for all Nigerians if elected. We are faced with the grim reality of petroleum subsidy removal, Naira exchange rates slides to all time low, while we wait for our mechanic to assemble his tools and men from the north, to come and repair the sick vehicle we call Nigerian economy. They will need 100 days to assemble tools, 100 days to remove the tyres, 200 days to remove and repair the engine, 200 days to sort out the gear box, 100 days for the electrical and fuel supply system, 100 days to panel beat the vehicle, 100 days to spray it with a new paint, then 100 days to find a suitable northerner to test drive the refurbished vehicle. Ndigbo, this brings us to a total of 1000 days, and that is two years and seven months, thus, the game will continue till 2019, with nothing in it for you, except noise, propaganda, fear, intimidation, denials and hardship. This type of change cannot favour Ndigbo, who must ignore it, no matter what is done or said, to provoke them. Let the changers face the terrorists, and don’t give them the pleasure to spill Igbo blood in the name of Biafra again. Even when their hirelings try to create social tension in your zone, just read between the lines and ignore them, because in this Nigeria, this phase shall pass away also, and Ndigbo shall prevail. Mr Clement Udegbe, a legal practitioner, wrote from Lagos. source: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/09/weep-not-ndigbo 9 Likes |

If Jesus was supposedly never crucified, or
never died, or was never buried, we have to
ask:
WHO WAS THE CRUCIFIED ONE?
The Crucifixion and the "chain-of-custody"
principle well help us identify. I received a question about the Crucifixion of Jesus, asking to prove: (1) that anyone saw Jesus dead, and (2) that anyone removed the dead body of Jesus from the cross, and (3) that anyone put His dead body in a tomb. These three questions involve the "chain-of- custody" of Jesus and his body. They seem to be best broken down into the following five parts: (A) Proof of Jesus being arrested, tortured, and hung on cross. (B) Proof of Jesus remaining on the cross till death. (C) Proof of the death of Jesus on the cross. (D) Proof of the removal of the same dead body from the cross. (E) Proof of the placement of that same dead body in a tomb. This study is from the documentation provided in the Bible by Matthew Levi, the son of Alphaeus, a servant of God and a companion and disciple of Jesus . The Roman government , the Jewish rulers and the disciples of Jesus were confirming witnesses of these events. If the Jewish people were deceived into thinking that they had killed Jesus, that would have still made it necessary also to deceive the Roman government and the very followers of Jesus; even his mother and closest friends and disciples. All of these would have had to believe a complete falsehood. (A) Proof of Jesus being arrested, tortured, and hung on the cross The "chain-of-custody" begins with the identification of Jesus by all twelve disciples (apostles) during the eating of the Last Supper at the Feast of Unleavened Bread on the night before the start of the full Passover commemoration. Afterwards, Judas left them (Mt 26:17-20). Then the group proceeded under a full moon with plenty of moonlight (the 14th day of the lunar month of Nisan) (Exodus 12:18) from the place of the Last Supper going east across the Brook Kidron and to the Garden of Gethsemane at the Mount of Olives (Mt 26:30 & 36). Judas Iscariot came and identified Jesus for the soldiers. Jesus also identified himself. Jesus healed the ear of the servant of the High Priest (Mt 26:47-56). Later Judas confirmed that he had betrayed an innocent man (Mt 27:3-. Also, the temple chief priests confirmed that the money given by them to Judas by them was "blood money" (Mt 27:6). Jesus went in the custody of the temple soldiers , to the house of Caiaphas. Many leaders were present including the whole great Sanhedrin (the 70 ruling men in the Council). Jesus confirmed that he is the Messiah and the Son of the God. Because of this statement of his, they said Jesus had committed blasphemy and was deserving of death (Mt 26:57-68). Jesus was transferred into the Roman custody of Governor Pontius Pilate in the morning (Mt 27:1-2). The wife of Pilate stated that she had a dream in the previous night hours that Pilate should have nothing to do with that "righteous man" (Mt 27:19). The Roman governor, Pilate, delivered Jesus into the custody of his own professional Roman soldiers (Mt 27:26). The Roman soldiers beat Jesus and put a crown of thorns on his head. This distinctively marked his body and the top of his head (Mt 27:27-30). These wounds, caused by the Roman soldiers, would help identify the body of Jesus all the way to the cross, on the cross, and in post-resurrection appearances. Jesus remained in the custody of Roman soldiers and was taken to the place of crucifixion (Mt 27:31-33). Matthew, who was one of the twelve disciples, records that the Roman soldiers crucified Jesus, which means putting a live person on a cross (Mt 27:35). (B) Proof of Jesus remaining on the cross till death Jesus remained on the cross under guard by the Roman centurion (Mt 27:54) and soldiers . Some sat down to watch him die (Mt 27:36-37). While hanging on the cross he was identified by: 1. The Roman centurion (officer over about 100 men) (Mt 27:54). 2. The Roman soldiers watching and who knew the wounds he had previously suffered (Mt 27:35-36). 3. The passersby who had heard him preach (Mt 27:39-40). 4. The chief priests (Mt 27:41). 5. The scribes (Mt 27:41). 6. The elders (Mt 27:41). 7. The two robbers who were also being executed (Mt 27:44). 8. The many women who had seen Jesus before (Mt 27:55-56). 9. John, His disciple (John 19:26) 10. Mary, his mother (John 19:26). (C) Proof of the death of Jesus on the cross Matthew, a disciple, records that Jesus gave up his spirit, died (Mt 27:50). The Roman centurion (Mt 27:54) who was in charge of keeping guard over Jesus, refers to Jesus' life in the past tense after Jesus had died (Mt 27:54). The dead body of Jesus was later ordered by the Roman governor to be given to Joseph of Arimathea who wrapped it in a clean linen cloth and who laid the body of Jesus in his own tomb (Mt 27:59-60). The chief priests and Pharisees confirmed to the Roman governor that Jesus was dead (Mt 27:63-64). Also the chief priests and Pharisees confirmed to the Roman governor that Jesus' body was actually in a grave (Mt 27:64). Pilate, the Roman governor appointed a guard for the grave of Jesus’ dead body (Mt 27:65-66). An angel of the Lord from Heaven confirmed that Jesus had been crucified, and had been dead (Mt 28:2-7). The women to whom this message was given told it to Matthew and the other disciples (Mt 28:7-10). (D) Proof of the removal of the same dead body of Jesus from the cross The Roman soldiers had custody of the dead body of Jesus (Mt 27:54). Notice that not just anyone could remove the dead body Jesus, the executed prisoner, from the custody of the Romans. Permission had to be obtained from the proper authority who had ordered the execution. In this case, it was the Roman governor, Pilate (Mt 27:58). A wealthy Jewish man, Joseph of Arimathea, who was a disciple and who would recognize Jesus, asked the Roman governor, Pilate, that he, Joseph, be allowed to take custody the dead body of Jesus for the purpose of burial (Mt 27:57-58). More than 700 years before the time of Jesus, the holy Prophet Isaiah, son of Amoz, wrote about this death and the burial in the grave of a rich man (Isaiah 53:9). At the time of Jesus, the holy Prophet John, the Baptizer, son of the Priest Zacharias, told that Jesus was the sacrificial "Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world." (John 1:29 and Isaiah 53). Pilate gave the order that the dead body of Jesus be given to Joseph (Mt 27:58). Joseph of Arimathea took away the dead body of Jesus which had been ordered to be given to him by the governor, Pilate, and which was identified to him as such by the soldiers who guarded the body and also from his own identification of Jesus, because he was a disciple of Jesus (Mt 27:57 & 59). The chief priests, elders and the soldiers confirmed that the body in the tomb was that of Jesus. It was the same dead body of Jesus that the governor, Pilate, had ordered the soldiers to guard (Mt 28:11-15). (E) Proof of the placement of that same dead body of Jesus in a tomb Pilate gave the order that the body be given to Joseph (Mt 27:58). There is no evidence that any other body was given to Joseph. Joseph took custody of Jesus’ dead body which had been ordered to be given to him by the governor Pilate and which was identified to him as such by the soldiers who guarded the dead body and which Joseph must have been able to identify himself, because he was a disciple of Jesus (Mt 27:59). Joseph kept custody of the body of Jesus and wrapped the body of Jesus in a clean linen cloth for burial (Mt 27:59). Joseph laid the wrapped dead body of Jesus in his own new tomb (Mt 27:60). Mary Magdalene and the other Mary who had been at the crucifixion came to that very grave (Mt 27:56 and 28:1). An angel of the Lord from Heaven confirmed that Jesus had been dead and buried at that very grave. The angel said, "Do not be afraid; for I know that you are looking for Jesus who has been crucified. He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said. Come, see the place where He was laying. And go quickly and tell His disciples that He has risen from the dead ..." (Mt 28:5-7) The body of Jesus was wounded and marked by the beating and the crown of thorns before the crucifixion and it was further marked by the wounds in the hands, the feet and the side while on the cross. Identifiable marks in his hands and side, made by the Roman soldiers, were still visible on Jesus’ body after his resurrection. He appeared to the apostles "... to whom He also presented Himself alive, after His suffering, by many convincing proofs, being seen by them during forty days, and speaking of the things concerning the Kingdom of God." (Acts 1:3) The details of the miracles, teachings and prophecies made by Jesus are recorded in the Injil, the first four historical Gospels ("Good News" section) of the New Testament of the Holy Bible which are advisable to be diligently studied for great spiritual benefit. Thus, it becomes clear that the "chain-of- custody" principle affirms the historical fact of Jesus’ crucifixion. Of course, what is most important in all of this is why it was necessary that Jesus the Messiah be crucified. A study of the Scriptures of the Prophets (the Bible) clearly reveals that the Messiah’s death and resurrection was, from the beginning, the center-piece of God’s plan of salvation. Listen to what Jesus told His disciples on the day He arose from the grave ... "Then [Jesus] said to them, ‘These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.’ And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures. Then He said to them, ‘Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And you are witnesses of these things!’" (Luke 24:44-48) 1 Like |
