Enugu has come to a point where we don’t need leaders that will just dabble their way through for a whole eight years.

We need a leader who espouses a vision, which blueprint must be well laid out for us to see and interrogate. But as I write, Edeoga is yet to present any manifests, less than two weeks to the election. And even if he does so, there is no way the citizens can interrogate him.

His candidacy can be likened to someone, who is promising to build a mansion for Ndi Enugu, but has no building plan or architectural design.

Conversely, Dr. Peter Mbah of the PDP has not only marshalled out his vision of a new Enugu State in his detailed manifesto since October 2022, he has additionally gone round Enugu State to market his blueprint for a new Enugu in town hall meetings in the 68 development areas or centres.

He has made himself available during those engagements to be interrogated by community leaders, market women, youths, traditional institutions, women groups, and political leaders across the state on his manifesto.

He has had exclusive engagements with Enugu youth, women organisations, churches, professional bodies, the Chamber of Commerce, etc. to answer questions on his manifesto.

Dr Peter Mbah stressed that his government would prioritize science, technology, engineering and mathematics even as technical and vocational training centres would be made available to impart new skills in the youths in order to meet up with the demands of investors in the state.

Mbah also stated that his administration would build a tier-4 hyper scale cloud neutral data centre and incubation centres with high speed internet, unrestrained access to data, uninterrupted power supply and workstations to enable them operate in the cybernetics space.

He said, with the policies and programmes that would be set up by his administration, Enugu youths could easily fit into the world of robotic science, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, augmented reality, mechatronics, e-commerce and Fintech that would give them an edge over others.

Dr Peter Mabh also stated that through key targeted policies and programmes including agriculture that he will grow the Gross Domestic Product of Enugu state for the next three to four years, from the current level of $4.4billion in 2022 to $30 billion.”

Dr Peter Mbah promised to bring peace and security and said that it would be achieved “through a three-pronged intervention, firstly, an integrated programme to accelerate youth employment for all Enugu citizens.

Secondly, integrated rural development programmes and thirdly, community policing and inclusion of all citizens in the governance of the state.”

Dr Peter Mbah promise to make supply of pipe-borne water one of his government’s priority.

He noted that the major challenge facing water supply in Enugu metropolis was poor supply of power and his government would link power direct, so if we are able to get power supply and not rely on generators only,so our plans is to bring in private sector investment see how we can ensure through the power plant we have in Oji-River run a power line directly from that power plant straight to Oji-River water scheme, but it is only electrical it is also mechanical.

Mbah further said that water resource sector has three arms; upstream, midstream and downstream.

The upstream has to do with water supply.

The midstream focuses on how pipelines convey water from source to storage. We understand that this needs sufficient power supply to function effectively.

Enugu State, he said, had the capacity “to produce 130,000 cubits of water and this would be enough for Ndi Enugu and we would aggressively bring in private sector investment to revive the water sector, by addressing the mechanical and electrical concerns.

“Our government if voted, he said would set up boreholes in the rural areas. The proximity between the boreholes and the houses of the residents will not exceed five minutes walk.”

Mbah said, that he shall industrialise Enugu State, attract investors and change it from being a public sector driven economy to private sector driven economy.

He promise to enhance agricultural production in a special agro processing zone.

He also promise to transform dormant assets into productive assets, including the mineral resources.

Mbah promise to bring in private investors by creating a good environment for businesses to thrive without asking them for return on investment. These and many more will lead to wealth creation and job creation,” he said.

Dr Peter Mbah stated that they main focus would be on agriculture, energy and mineral resources, commerce and industry, rural and urban infrastructure, creative industries, information and communication technology and tourism development, insisting that the economy will be driven by radical innovation and departure from the incremental and nominal style of leadership.

He said that they objective here is to attract private sector investments by making the environment attractive to investors.

Ahead of the March 11, 2023 Governorship and National Assembly elections, former Governor of Enugu State, Senator Chimaroke Nnamani has embarked on ward to ward campaign in his Enugu East Senatorial District seeking the support of constituents to return to the Senate .

The Senator Nnamani ward to ward – Ebeano campaigns train went through major roads , streets , markets and neighborhoods structures in the Senatorial District canvassing for votes .

The campaign train distributed customized exercise books , T-shirts and face-caps to constituents along the roads, streets, markets and neighborhood structures in Enugu North, Enugu south, Isi Uzo, Nkanu East and Nkanu West local government areas.

They listed some projects attracted by Senator Nnamani to the constituency in the last four years to justify why they should vote for him in the forthcoming election in order to continue his quality representation and more dividends of democracy.

These includes but not limited to installation of all-in -one solar powered street lights in the Senatorial District; markets , parking lots, schools , hospitals , streets and roads in the local government areas .

They also listed the construction of 154- meter drainage line and development of rural access roads for farmers in the Senatorial District among others .

Senator Nnamani had also sponsored 3,991 female students in the Senatorial District for their West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) as well as entrepreneurship skills acquisition and empowerment of 100 unemployed women and youths with deep freezers and sewing machines .

Senator Nnamani has been an advocate of gender parity and women emancipation in the Senate . He believes that an educated and empowered female folks would be an advantage to the quest for development in the country.

He has been unrelenting in the battle to eliminate all forms of discrimination such as women right to inheritance, denial of access to education, under aged marriages and some harmful cultural practices like female genital mutilation against women .

Senator Nnamani promised to consolidate and attract more dividends of democracy to the constituency if elected again .

The PDP zonal chairman Nwafor noted the achievements of Nnamani from his days as governor to the present tenure in National Assembly and submitted that he is the best choice for them.

I have also been accused of having hands in the killing of Chukwu, a former chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association whom was set ablaze at Amechi- Awkunanaw in Enugu south local government area on Wednesday after unknown gunmen suspected to be working for ESN or IPOB opened fire on his convoy during an ambush during the enforcement of sit at home order by Simon Epka. He said again I strongly condemn the senseless killing of the unknown gunmen, I deeply sympathies with all the bereaved, and urge the security operative to fish out the tractors. I'm not a Killer he said, they only want to spoil my name and turn me against my people and constituency. But God pass them. They also attack a PDP and APC member. Please vote for me. His constituency all agreed to vote for him ward to ward.

Enugu NPC releases salary, allowances for 2023 population, housing census ad hoc staff in Enugu State Nigeria. From Foxxymobile Nigeria.

The National Population Commission (NPC) has outlined the salary and allowances structure for its ad hoc staff who will be involved in the conduct of the 2023 Population and Housing Census.


The remuneration is divided into two categories – allowances and main salary.

In the category of allowances, according to the Director of Census Department, Mrs Evelyn Arinola Olanipekun, the NPC ad hoc staff will receive three types of allowances, namely; feeding allowance: (a) Specialised Workforce (SWF) – N2,000 per day x 13 days (three days of SWF and 10 days of state training). However, states that did not observe the first three days are exempted. Total N26,000. (b) State Facilitators: N2,000 per person, per day x 10 days. Total: N20,000

For the transport allowance it is N20,000 per person. Training allowance: (a) Trainer: N15,000 per day x 13 (SWF) and 10 (state facilitator) (b) Trainee: N10,000 per day x 13 (SWF) and 10 (state facilitator).


The commission said payment will be made twice for all categories, as follows: transport and feeding: N46,000 (SWF), N40,000 (state facilitators). Training allowance: trainer (SWF) – N195,000; trainee – N130,000; state trainers (facilitators) -N150, 000; trainees – 100,000.

It added that the above allowances would also apply to other categories such as enumerators and supervisors, but with a shorter number of training days and a slight reduction in the amount. On average, the total allowances for specialised workforce, facilitators, enumerators, supervisors, and other census functionaries range from N50,000 to N100,000.

NPC said that the main salary for NPC ad hoc staff will be paid after the completion of the census exercise. The average basic or main salary for each census functionary ranges from N50,000 to N250,000, depending on the position.

It summarised the salary and allowances for NPC ad hoc staff during the 2023 Population and Housing Census as follows: facilitators – N150,000 to N300,000; field coordinator – N140,000 to N280,000; quality assurance assistants/rovers – N130,000 to N280,000; supervisor – N130,000 to N230,000; enumerator – N100,000 to N220,000; monitoring and evaluation officer – N150,000 to N300,000.
