There was a dramatic confrontation between Nigerian security forces in Ijaya, Apongbo, Lagos State this morning, as soldiers attempted to disarm a police taskforce. The police successfully defended themselves by deploying tear gas.
The reason for the conflict is currently unknown.

Obasanjo who was joined by the leadership of the old boys association, led by the National President, Prof. Kayode Oyesiku and large numbers of the current students entertained residents, motorists and passers-by on the walk.

A statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi stated that hundreds of residents and enthusiasts echoed and praised Obasanjo’s names for his prowess, energy and endurance to embark on the walk despite his age.

Among those who played host to Obasanjo and his team, were the Olubara of Ibara, Oba Jacob Omolade, former Finance Minister, Onolapo Soleye and the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo. It was at the visit to the palace of Alake, that some aged old school mates joined them.

They walked amid singing of the school anthem among other songs, through Oke Egunya, Igbore, Oke Igbein, and at Omida the palace of Oba Omolade.

Thereafter, the walkers moved to the Ibara Housing Estate, the residence of Soleye. Subsequently, the team took the walk again to Ake, the palace of Oba Gbadebo.

Shortly after the visit to Alake, the octogenarian still burstling with energy entered back on the road and headed towards Saje, a journey that took them through Isale Ake, Adatan, Kugba Road before entering the rehabilitated Saje Road into the school premises.

Oyesiku disclosed that the walk covered 18km stretch when added together, as he commended the old boys of the school for spirit behind the centenary annivesary exercise.

A second woman has died after sustaining injuries in a crush at the O2 Brixton Academy on Thursday night.

Gabrielle Hutchinson, 23, who was working as a contracted security provider during the sold-out concert, died in hospital in the early hours of Monday morning.

It comes after mother-of-two Rebecca Ikumelo, 33, from Newham, east London, died from her injuries in hospital on Saturday.

The Metropolitan Police also disclosed that a third woman, 21, who was still receiving treatment, was in critical condition.

Chief Superintendent Colin Wingrove, policing commander for Lambeth and Southwark, said, “It is devastating news that a second person has lost their life following the events on Thursday.

“I wish to express my heartfelt condolences to Gabrielle’s family at this unimaginably difficult time.”

Detectives from the Met's Specialist Crime Command are investigating the incident, and are continuing to appeal for witnesses to contact them.
The police cordons outside the venue have been removed, but cordons remain in place inside the building while officers continue to examine the scene.
The force said they had referred themselves to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, adding it is a 'standard national practice following all incidents where police have been in attendance and members of the public have died or been seriously injured'.
