A four man robbery gang
yesterday, September 5, invaded
the residence of youth corpers
serving in Ogun state located
behind the Development Centre,
Presidential Boulevard, Abeokuta.
The robbery in the lodge which is
the third within five months
occurred at about 3.00am when
the corpers were asleep.
Valuables like money, laptops and
over twenty-five different types of
telephones were lost to the
marauders from the students
An eyewitness account report that,
the bandits used the porosity of
the vicinity to gain access to the
lodge ,and at gun point forced the
corpers to be awake at the odd
hours of the day, before
embarking on the raid, which
made the victims to be helpless.
Some of the victims who spoke
with our correspondent but does
not want their names in print said
the gang numbering about four
committed the crime, and escaped
through footpath after the
operations.
According to the victims: “On
arrival at about 3.00am, the gang
forced their ways into each flat at
gun point and thereafter embarked
on the raid,unchecked, adding
that, two of the bandits moved
from one room to other to
ransack, while the other two
stayed outside, to attack any
possible resistance.”
The Corpers said, they had earlier
reported the two incidents to the
police, and no action taken, until
the third strike. They appealed to
security agencies to come to their
aid in providing adequate security
for them, before the bandits start
to kill them.
According to one of the xorpers,
“We have earlier reported the two
incidents to the police,but no
action taken,and now the attack
would be the third within a short
distance of months. We are
begging security authorities in the
state and NYSC authority to come
to our aid, before the bandits start
killing us. ”
All efforts to get the state’s police
public relations officer, DSP
Olumuyiwa Adejobi on the issue
proved abortive, but sources
informed that efforts are ongoing
to provide adequate surveillance
in the area.
The sources, however hinted that
the residents have equally
resolved to established their own
security measure in tackling the
incessant robberies in the
quarters. |
