Obaseki Too Busy Developing Edo To Be Interested In The Criminal Prosecution Of PDP Members

The disingenuous and irresponsible move by the Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chris Nehikhare, to unjustly pass the blame for the predicament of the PDP leaders who are being tried for fraud has caught our attention and we by this medium condemn his action in the strongest possible terms.

We are very aware that it is in the character of members of Edo PDP to live in denial and blame others when they confront the nemesis of their own actions.

We, however, want to advise them that for once, they should take responsibility for their actions and direct their energy towards soul searching and character reforms.

We wish to place on record that Governor Godwin Obaseki, is too busy transforming the fortunes of Edo people destroyed by the PDP, to be interested in their travail with the law.

For the past 72 hours, Governor Obaseki has hardly had up to six hours of sleep, from organising a Technical Roundtable on Managing Migration in Nigeria through Development Transformation Programme, in collaboration with the European Union, United Nations and other stakeholders, as well as signing the Edo State Trafficking in Persons Prohibition Law 2018, the governor has received a high-powered delegation of the World Bank and held marathon meetings with two federal ministers on how to add more value to the lives of Edo people.

The present predicament of the embattled leaders of the dying Edo PDP, is the least of Obaseki’s worries at the moment.

We advise them to follow the due process in fulfilling the bail conditions of their members and wish them the best in their date with justice.

Signed

Crime / Court Sends Ize-iyamu, Orbih, Others To Prison Over Money Laundering by frayozzz: 4:50pm On May 24, 2018
A Federal High Court sitting in Benin City has remanded Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, Chief Dan Orbih, a former Deputy Governor, Mr, Lucky Imasuen, a former member of the House of Representatives, Tony Azegbemi and Efe Anthony to prison custody.

They are to remain in prison pending when they meet their bail applications.

Pastor Ize-Iyamu and others were arraigned on Thursday by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on eight count charges of laundering the sum of N700m.

Justice P.I Adjokwu remanded them to prison custody after rejecting a plea by Counsel to Ize-Iyamu, Charles Edosomwan that they be kept in the custody of the EFCC.

Meanwhile Protesters besieged the Federal High Court in Benin City to demand unconditional release of leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party who were arraigned for allegedly laundering the sum of N700m.

They carried Placards with various inscriptions which reads : “Nigeria belongs to us all”, “Free Ize-Iyamu”, “EFCC release Pastor Ize-Iyamu”and “No gentleman in corruption.”

In the suit, former Chairman, Board of Trustee of the PDP, Chief Tony Anenih was listed as being at large.

The suspects were arraigned on an eight-count charge of money laundering.

They however pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them.

Counsel to the suspects, Charles Edosomwan (Ize-Iyamu) Dr. O.G Izevbuwa (Imasuen) Kehinde Ogunsumi (Azegbemi) Ferdinand Orbih (Dan Orbih) and Prof. Jim Akhere Akhere in their bail applications pleaded that their clients be granted bail on self recognisance.

They urged the court to grant their clients bail on a liberal and non-stringent condition because they willingly submitted themselves to the EFCC.

The Counsel said their clients were known members of their communities and would not jump bail.

They also argued that their clients have been in EFCC custody for 11 days.

But the EFCC Counsel, Larry Peters Aso, argued that the bio-data of the suspects have not been captured and urged the Judge to direct stringent bail condition and money to ensure the defendants are in court.

The presiding Judge, Justice P.I Adjokwu, in her ruling said she exercised her discretion to grant them bail.

Justice Adjokwu granted bail to the five accused persons in N10m each and a surety in like sum who must be a public servant in the rank of level 16 and above.

The sureties. according to the Judge, are to deposite the C.of O of their building with the Deputy Chief Registrar of the court.

Edosomwan however pleaded that the accused persons be remanded to the EFCC custody pending when the bail conditions are met but Justice Adjokwu said it was beyond her powers.

Justice Adjokwu therefore remanded them to prison custody pending when they meet their bail conditions and adjourned sitting to July 4th, 2018.

As at press time, supporters of the PDP were still at the court waiting for the bail conditions to be perfected.

Obaseki Assures Edo Workers Of Timely Completion Of Labour House, Industrial Harmony

Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has assured workers in the state, that the construction of the Labour House Complex would be completed in record time.

Obaseki gave the assurance at the foundation laying ceremony for the proposed State Labour House Complex, in Ikpoba Hill, Benin City, Edo State, noting, “the state government will work closely with workers to ensure that we do not record strikes in the state.”

He said the state will work to ensure that the edifice is completed by meeting its obligations, stressing, “This beautiful edifice would be completed in record time. If there is delay in completing the building, the contractor should be held accountable.”

He commended the foresight of his predecessor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole for the steps taken to ensure the State Chapter of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) gets a befitting complex, adding, "I am here today to execute what Comrade Oshiomhole started."

Obaseki noted that Comrade Oshiomhole allocated the land for the project, completed the building design and came up with a plan to source fund for the project.

“It was his vision that, since the state has produced great labour leaders for the union in the past, it would only be befitting to have a beautiful edifice to serve as the Labour House.

Chairman, Edo State Council of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Emmanuel Ademokuo, commended the Godwin Obaseki-led administration for his worker-friendly policies, which have improved workers’ productivity.

He thanked the former governor of the state for taking the bold step to ensure that Labour as a body in the state, has a befitting building to call its own.

Ademokuo expressed appreciation to the former governor Oshiomhole for uniting the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and NLC in the state, noting “In developing the plan for the proposed labour house, the former governor insisted that the complex should accommodate both groups.”

He assured Governor Obaseki of workers’ support and assured, “We will continue to support your administration to ensure that it delivers the dividends of democracy to the people of the state.”

Chairman of the State Council of the TUC, Comrade Marshal Orhue, said members of the TUC are confident that the Obaseki-led administration’s developmental strides will deliver expected benefits to the state and her people.

Politics / EDO STATE WATER PROJECTS - THE PDP IS IGNORANT OF THE FACTS by frayozzz: 5:12pm On Apr 11, 2018

By Chris Azebamwan, State Publicity Secretary, APC Edo State

At page 13 of the Vanguard Newspaper of Monday 9th April, 2018, Chief Dan Orbih was quoted as saying that there are no water projects being executed by the Edo State Government in collaboration with the European Union. In his characteristic haste to wail and accuse the performing government of Governor Godwin Obaseki of all sorts of imagined crimes and lapses, he said the ongoing and highly profitable engagement of the Edo State Government with the EU was fraudulent.

If Dan Orbih had taken the pains to go to the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources, or the EU contact person, he would not have publicly embarrassed himself as he has done. It is indicative of the lacklustre and visionless leadership that he has foisted on the PDP for their State Chairman not to be aware that the EU is an international body that will not be swayed by partisan considerations to engage in a cover-up or subterfuge with the government of Edo State.

The water projects are on ground and verifiable. The APC-led government of Edo State will not indulge Dan Orbih in his planned jamboree of touring the State at public expense. He can take all the press crew and civil society organizations that he can afford on a verification tour. The locations and technical specifications of the various water projects are in the public domain. All that is needed is for Dan Orbih and his PDP wailers to avail themselves of the facts. Their campaign of calumny will not repair or reverse the damage which they inflicted on themselves in all their years of misrule in Edo State. They betrayed the peoples’ trust and the people of Edo State will not be fooled a second time. The downhill slide of their political fortunes is irreversible.

Politics / Obaseki Unveils Plan To Facilitate Steady Power Supply To Industries, Residents by frayozzz: 3:51pm On Apr 04, 2018
The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has revealed the state government’s plans to strategically develop industrial layouts away from residential areas to ensure proportionate power supply to help actualize the state’s developmental plans.

Obaseki disclosed this during an interview with journalists in Benin City, Edo State capital.

According to him, “We have developed plans to help overcome the challenges of power distribution to industries, residential buildings and other users. This includes building areas of use, that is, developing industrial parks, housing estates and other clusters that can be directly connected to generating plants.”

He said, “When these plans are fully achieved, the state would have steady power supply to support businesses and other users. With time, Benin City and other towns in the state will be better planned and segregated so that industrial use of power can be separated from domestic use.”

“When this is done, the structural challenges along the chain of generation and distribution will then be reorganised and steady power supply will then be guaranteed,” he said.

He explained that steady power supply cannot be achieved overnight until the structural impediments are addressed, noting, “Even if the issue of generation of power is addressed, efforts must be made to address issues mitigating distribution and transmission.”

Obaseki said, “As long as we have determined people like the developers of Edo Azura Independent Power Plant (IPP), Edo state and Nigeria can become self-sufficient in power supply. As long as there is power generation, we will find a way to get it to users.

“If we have people who know what they are doing like the developers of Edo Azura IPP, we will overcome issues of power supply. In terms of generation, I believe, given the resources available, hydro, thermal and green energy, we can generate all the electricity to power the state and country.”

Education / Obaseki Lauds Poets, Writers On World Poetry Day by frayozzz: 4:08pm On Mar 21, 2018
…tasks students on effective communication skills

The Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has commended poets and writers for serving as the mirror of the society and amplifying beliefs, traditions and customs through their graceful and stylised works, written or oral, through generations.

Obaseki gave the commendation on the occasion of the World Poetry Day, marked on March 21 each year, to support linguistic diversity through poetic expression and to offer endangered languages the opportunity to be heard within their communities.

The celebration according to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) "encourages a return to the oral tradition of poetry recitals, to promote the teaching of poetry, restore a dialogue between poetry and the other arts such as theatre, dance, music and painting, and to support small publishers and create an attractive image of poetry in the media, so that the art of poetry will no longer be considered an outdated form of art, but one which enables society as a whole to regain and assert its identity."

“The beauty of the universe, its colours, diverse people and cultures and our common humanity, have over the years been communicated by poets and writers through various literary genres such as poems, plays, songs, music as well as dances, genuflections, salutation, signs and symbols,” the governor said.

He urged students “to develop their communication skills by devoting quality time to reading, writing, learning other languages, singing and appreciating literary works.”

Obaseki challenged technology-oriented young people to create applications for storing and preserving our history, culture, customs and creative works for future enjoyment.

“We are fast losing our cultural values and oral traditions. We need to preserve evergreen songs, poems, songs and other literary works that will be of great moral and entertainment value to the future generations,” he added.

UNESCO said that in celebrating World Poetry Day, "it recognises the unique ability of poetry to capture the creative spirit of the human mind."

The decision to proclaim 21 March as World Poetry Day was adopted during UNESCO’s 30th session held in Paris in 1999.

Dan Orbih's N800m Scandal: Nehikhare Face Your Accusers, Leave EDSG Out of Your Predicament

The Edo State Government is shocked at the unwarranted attack on it by the Edo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over a publication, in which the writers claimed that N800 million received by the chairman of Edo PDP, Chief Dan Orbih, to wage media war in the state was diverted.

The Edo State government's media team has always signed off on any article or communication material emanating from the state. We have no reason to hide under any mask when we issue press statements.

We wish to state that the said article that Chris Nehikhare ascribed to the Edo State government did not emanate from us. Nehikhare and his co travellers are just boxing shadows.

Edo PDP should check elsewhere for who their accusers are and leave Edo State Government out of their predicament as the state government has better things to do with its precious time.

However, a second look at the said article and a scientific perusal of the intentions of the writers suggest some infighting within the Edo PDP. If the brewing crisis is over fears of the possible diversion of N800million media war receipt by Dan Orbih, then the fears are founded as the Edo PDP has a long and sustained history of diverting money. Are we suddenly on another planet? Have we not heard and read tales of billions of naira diverted by members of the Edo PDP?

Perhaps, worried that the party is a type cast for misappropriation of funds, the lesser devils in the opposition party may have feared that the said N800 million media budget would go into private investments, hence raised the alarm.

Evil haunts the doers and the wicked runs when no man pursues. Nehikhare, face your shadow and deal with it. Leave Edo State Government out of your internal issues.
