Obaseki Approves Employment Of All Physically Challenged Applicants In Civil Service Recruitment Exercise

…as Edo develops database of civil servants with special needs

Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has approved the employment of all 25 physically challenged applicants who participated in the last recruitment exercise by the Edo State Civil Service Commission.

In a statement, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Communication Strategy, Mr. Crusoe Osagie, said the governor gave the approval after a review of the last civil service recruitment process showed that a number of persons with physical challenges were screened out either because they applied incorrectly or the system didn’t make provision for their special needs.

He said that the affected applicants include all persons with visible disabilities who appeared for interview irrespective of their level of performance, noting, “These persons were not initially invited for the Computer-Based Test conducted by the Information Communication Technology Agency due to the fact that they did not apply correctly during the online application stage.

“These persons were however screened out by the Computer System which had no means of identifying them as persons with visible disabilities,” he said.

According to him, the governor also approved the employment of two physically challenged persons to work at the Information Communication Technology Agency, who fell below the Commission’s established standards and one-visually impaired person, into the civil service.

Osagie said the governor has mandated the State Civil Service Commission to develop a database of persons with physical disabilities who are employed by the state government.

He said the 25 persons with disabilities whose appointments have been approved will be evaluated by the Commission based on their academic qualifications and the approved scheme of service for placement into the civil service and provision made to take care of their special needs.

He said plans are also in place to provide appropriate facilities that will enable the physically challenged persons to carry out their roles effectively.

Education / NGO Embarks On Reconstruction Mission In Lagos Primary Schools by frayozzz: 6:09pm On Nov 25, 2018
A Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) which has as one of its set objectives, the restoration of the dignity in living, TrueAid International Foundation, is living up to its name of giving true aids by offering pupils in Lagos primary schools something to be really glad about.

In a pilot scheme to touch the lives of pupils, TrueAid International Foundation has successfully reconstructed a block of toilets which was abandoned after it got dilapidated at Bethel Primary School, Ota-Onu in Ikorodu, Lagos State. The ready-for-use ‘new look’ block of toilets will be officially handed over to the school on Tuesday, November 27, 2018.

According to an official of TrueAid International Foundation, Mr. Martins Duweigha, the block of toilets was restored from being a refuse dump (which it turned into after being abandoned) to a block of now usable and descent toilets, all at no single cost to the school or to pupils’ parents.

“Actually, the idea to reconstruct Bethel Primary School’s block of toilets came on the day we visited the school to obtain data for our Free School Bags and Exercise Books Scheme. But the site we met there, what we saw of what was used to be the school’s block of toilets was so touching that TrueAid penciled it down as a priority project’’ narrated Mr. Martins Duweigha

“And having seen the need for proper hygiene as it concerns the life of children, TrueAid took up the reconstruction project as a pilot scheme which will be replicated where necessary, such as what we met at Bethel Primary School” said Mr. Duweigha

When asked if what he termed ‘where necessary’ includes private schools, Mr. Duweigha had this to say;

“Our priority for now is public schools, but that does not stop us from assisting private individuals in need, which is what our mission is really all about.”

TrueAid International Foundation will officially be handing over the reconstructed block of toilets to the administrators of Bethel Primary School on Tuesday in an event scheduled for 10am at the school premises. The event will also have in attendance, members of the school’s Parents Teachers Association (PTA) who are delighted by the project.

A lucky South Carolina resident could wake up a billionaire this morning.

One winning Mega Millions jackpot ticket was sold in somewhere in South Carolina, the state’s Education Lottery announced early Wednesday.

Lottery officials are scheduled to release more information later today.

The numbers for this week’s historic Mega Millions Jackpot were announced late Tuesday night.

The jackpot numbers were: 28, 70, 5, 62, 65, with a Mega Ball of 5.

Up for grabs is $1.6 billion in the Mega Millions lotto. The cash payout? $913.7 million to a single winner.

The odds of winning the $1.6 billion jackpot are currently 1 in 302,575,350, but that hasn’t stopped thousands, if not millions, of people from playing across the country.

Those slim chances don’t seem to be putting a damper on the excitement for some folks, including Marissa Kagan, who waited in line at a store near Primm, Nevada.

“I’ve been waiting an hour and a half,” said Kagan. “Once you’ve made the trip from Vegas, you might as well just stay for the duration.”

“I never play, but we just kind of figured ‘why not?'” Kagan added, noting that if she wins, she said that she would buy a school and build some homeless shelters.

Christina Nagar, a Las Vegas resident in the same line, said she would “buy a few penthouses” as well as some “new cars, a bunch of sneakers.”

Andres Ojeda, also in line at the store, had less firm plans for the jackpot.

“I don’t know,” Ojeda said, “but I’d like to find out!”

Politics / Shortage Of Marijuana Hits Canada 2 Days After It Became Legal by frayozzz: 11:48pm On Oct 20, 2018
Canadians were so excited about getting their hands on some legal recreational marijuana that the country is reportedly experiencing a shortage.

Police were called to help shops struggling to handle long queues and with frustrated people unable to buy cannabis.

Bill Blair, a former Toronto police chief who has led the government’s legalisation programme, told public broadcaster CBC that the country was unable to supply enough to meet demand.

“We expected, you know, certain strains might run out and there would be a bit of a run on supply,” he said.

“But, you know, they’ve got a pretty good infrastructure in place and I’m confident it will work.”

On Wednesday Canada became the first industrialized nation and only the second country in the world, after Uruguay, to legalize recreational cannabis as part of a controversial experiment in drug policy.

Under the new law, citizens will be allowed to carry up to 30 grams of cannabis in public and each household will be able to grow up to four marijuana plants.

Politics / Chinese Drugs Made From Dead Babies: SON Confirms Being Alerted by frayozzz: 9:35am On Oct 19, 2018
The Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has confirmed the receipt of a letter sent to alert the organisation to watch out for Chinese Drugs reported to be made from human flesh.

National Intelligence Agency (NIA) apart fron alerting SON, also alerted the National Agency for Food Drugs and Administration Control (NAFDAC), as well as the Nigerian Customs Service on a Chinese drugs made with human flesh.

The Technical Assistant/Head, Public Relations of the organization, Mr Bola Fashina, explained that his organisation is on the lookout for the products even though he explained that it is the primary responsibilities of both NAFDAC and Customs Service.

Investigations revealed that the capsules were filled with powdered flesh from dead babies.

They were made in North Eastern China from babies whose bodies were chopped into small pieces and dried in ovens before being turned into powder.

Thousands of the drugs were first confiscated in South Korea in 2012.

However, according to NIA, “the South Korean Customs Service, on 30th September 2018 revealed that it has seized 2,751 Chinese drugs/capsules, containing human remains from fetus, infants and flesh imported into the country by some Chinese nationals.

“The manufacturers claims that the drugs/capsules can boost stamina, cure cancer, diabetes and some other terminal diseases.

“The capsules were smuggled in suitcases and through international mail.”

The agency revealed that South Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety indicated that 18.7 billion viruses, including hepatitis B virus were found in the capsules.

It stressed that the making of the human remain drugs and consuming them are crimes against humanity, which can also lead to serious health challenges.

NIA explained that it was monitoring the situation for detailed information.

“However, it is important for all relevant health regulatory agencies in Nigeria especially the Federal Ministry of Health, NAFDAC, NDLEA and SON to sensitize Nigerians of this development and warn them of the inherent dangers of patronizing drugs imported from China.

“The Customs Service, NIPOST and other mail delivery services should also step up monitoring of cargoes and packages with drugs imported into Nigeria.”

In 2011, Chinese officials launched investigations into the production of drugs made from dead fetuses.

The capsules were disguised as stamina boosters and some people believe them to be a panacea for disease.

35-year-old New York-based tech entrepreneur, Mr. Chike Ukaegbu, who emerged as the presidential candidate of the Advanced Allied Party (AAP), has promised to defeat all the other presidential aspirants including President Muhammadu Buhari, come February 2019.

Ukaegbu, whose candidacy was affirmed by the party in Abuja said on Monday that AAP was poised to win the presidential election.

He said that AAP, nicknamed the Golden Spoon Party, was also committed to taking care of all Nigerians when entrusted with the governance of the country.

He said the party was the first to take advantage of the recently enacted Not-Too-Young-Run Act by producing the youngest among all the presidential flag bearers that have emerged.

“The party was extremely delighted that Nigerians, particularly the younger generation, have embraced the vision and desire of the recently registered party to give them a platform to rescue the country’s political leadership from years of misrule.

“I am not afraid to unseat President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019.

“My interest obviously aligns with the objectives of my party, to give political platform to youths, students and other younger Nigerians to participate in political leadership of the country.

“Many might say I am too ambitious at my age. But that was how France produced a young man as president,” he said.

Ukaegbu was born in Owerri, Imo State to civil servant parents who are now retired. He schooled in Nigeria up till his second year in the University of Lagos before proceeding to the United States where he studied Biomedical Engineering at City College of New York.

Edo Govt Plans Photo Exhibition To Amplify Call For Return Of Stolen Artefacts At EDOFEST

The Edo State Government has concluded arrangement to organise a photo exhibition to amplify call for the return of stolen artefacts from the Benin Kingdom, as part of activities lined up for the 2018 edition of Edo Festival of Arts and Culture (EDOFEST).

Commissioner for Arts, Culture, Tourism and Diaspora Affairs, Mr. Osaze Osemwegie-Ero, disclosed this during a chat with journalists in Benin City, the Edo State capital.

“I am excited about the photo exhibition of our stolen artefacts. We have over a thousand pictures of the stolen artefacts that are kept in museums across the world.

“If you go to the Metropolitan Museum in New York, there is a space for Benin artefacts. Go to Liverpool in the United Kingdom, Berlin, France, Canada and other museums across the world, we have our artefacts that were looted from us in 1897,” the commissioner said.

He explained that “The Ministry of Arts, Culture, Tourism and Diaspora Affairs has the pictures of the artefacts. We are planning to have a 2x6 metre size photos of the artefacts that will be shown to the world. The exhibition will take place in the palace of the Oba of Benin, Hi Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare II, who is leading the campaign for the return of the stolen artefacts.”

Shedding light on the cultural event, Osemwegie-Ero said, “We are inviting ambassadors and the international media like CNN and BBC for the photo exhibition. The idea is to tell the world that we know where the artefacts stolen from the Benin Kingdom are located. We need the artefacts back.”

The commissioner lauded Governor Godwin Obaseki for supporting the hosting of the 2018 EDOFEST, noting, “The governor appreciates the value of our culture and tourism. That is why he made it one of the six thematic pillars of the administration. He has been very supportive. He knows that arts and culture bring unity among our people. Edo’s rich culture is second to none in the world.”

He further said that the 2018 EDOFEST, with the theme: Harnessing Arts and Culture for Sustainable Development, will be bigger, better and an improvement on the 2017 event, adding, “2017 EDOFEST was like a litmus test. Despite the fact that we started preparing for the 2017 event late, the event was one of the best we ever had in the state. This year we have enough time to plan ahead.”

President Muhammadu Buhari and the Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, on Thursday on the side-lines of the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, the United States of America, met with Nigerians in the diaspora, with an assurance to sustain the tempo of development in Nigeria.

Buhari charged the Nigerian professionals to lend their voices to developments in their home country and be quick to condemn bad leadership characterised by corruption and other practices that can reverse the growth of the nation.

At a separate event organisd by Global Hope Coalition, Governor Obaseki represented President Buhari.

The event had in attendance the President of Niger Republic, Mahamadou Issoufou, and other global leaders.

According to the organisers, “Global Hope Coalition is empowering courageous individuals who stand up to terror and violence, preserve our heritage and build bridges across cultures.”

The coalition is a network of three not-for-profit foundations based in New York, Zurich and Hong Kong.

The foundation noted that “Violent extremism is one of the gravest dangers of our time—threatening to unravel the fabric of our societies, irreparably destroy invaluable cultural icons and jeopardise the future of intercultural relations.”

The foundation honours men and women who are everyday heroes around the globe, and “are taking great risks to oppose extremists–wherever they spread lies, bigotry and hatred.”

…as Orbih reaches out to APC chieftains for soft landing

As months give way to weeks, before the next court date in the N700 million money laundering case involving the Chairman of the Edo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Dan Orbih, it was gathered that the Edo PDP chairman has been making frantic effort to plead with chieftains of the Edo State All Progressives Congress (APC) to intervene.

One of the Edo APC chieftains, who would not want his name mentioned, said “He has approached some members of the Edo State APC to intercede for him and I have personally told him off and advised him to brace up for the outcome of the court case.

“I have told him that the Judiciary is independent of the executive and the legislature under the APC government and no individual can help him.

“Forget all the noise he is making and all the showmanship. He is distraught and really troubled by the court case hanging on his neck. But I am not the judge or the court or the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC.)

“Though we are from the same part of the state, but what really can I do? There is no where in the constitution that says that your village man can help you in a money laundering case. It is not a case of two family members quarrelling over community funds or village money. It is a case between Chief Orbih and the EFCC.”

Another APC chieftain who also pleaded anonymity, said Chief Orbih had taken his pleas to top APC leaders in Abuja.

“We have received reports of his fears over the money laundering case. Chief Orbih confided in me that his fears heightened when some former governors were recently sent to jail by the courts over money laundering charge. He hinted that he thought the whole EFCC’s fight against corruption would fizzle out somehow.

“Chief Orbih is more worried because of his health challenge and he fears he may die in jail. I have suggested he enters a plea bargain if is sure his defence is weak. I cannot really say more than this as the case in question is in court and would not want to pre-empt the outcome,” the APC chieftain said.

The Edo PDP chairman is facing an 8-count charge of laundering N700 million; fraud and corruption; an offence contrary to section 15(2)(d) of the Money Laundering (prohibition) Act 2011 as amended.”

Plaintiff: Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)

Status: remanded in prison and currently on bail

The above data vividly portray the current status of Dan Orbih, the chairman of Edo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Facts do not lie and Orbih’s falsehood and attacks on the Edo State government cannot obliterate the only truth that he is a potential convict, on trial for fraud and corruption.

Not even the stage-managed dance drama amid a rented crowd can redeem his flawed character and his notoriety for propagating falsehood.

His woes could be further compounded by his actions that are clearly unbecoming of a man that is moving freely today because of a bail bond issued by his sympathiser.

But Edo people know who to believe, between a liar and an alleged launderer of N700 million, whose current fate hangs on a cliff-hanger, permitted only to see the daylight by a bail bond sitting in the court of law, and Governor Godwin Obaseki, whose transparent systems have been referenced by the World Bank and credible multilateral and domestic institutions.

Edo people know that the statements made by Dan Orbih on the Edo State governor are all lies, and are received as such each time he manufactures them.

Governor Obaseki has his eyes clearly on the ball and governance in our conviction, is about enduring infrastructure, safe, secure, ordered and a sane society, in which everyone can actualise his or her dreams and aspirations.

Politics / Edo Govt Raises Alarm Over Issuance Of Fake Mining Consent by frayozzz: 3:29pm On Jul 07, 2018
The Edo State Ministry of Solid Minerals, Oil and Gas, has raised the alarm over illegal activities of groups and individuals who issue mining consent to companies for mining, quarrying and borrowing of pit in the state.

In a statement, the Commissioner for Solid Minerals, Oil and Gas, Hon. Joseph Ugheoke, noted, “These groups and individuals go about issuing out mining consent on behalf of communities to companies interested in mining, quarrying and borrow pit operations without recourse to the extant rules.”

He said that the state government has identified such actions as the major cause of conflicts, disagreement, insecurity and breach of public peace in the affected communities.

“For the avoidance of doubts and as prescribed by the extant rules and laws governing the use of land, all requests for mining consent must first be brought to the attention of the State Government,” he said, noting the state government is the statutory custodian of all lands in the state.

Ugheoke warned that “No group, group of persons or community is allowed to give out mining consent to any mining company without due approval by the State Government."

He added that anyone caught disregarding the extant rules relating to issuing of mining consent to companies will be made to face the force of the law.

A 65-year-old, Matthew Omokhafe, has been arrested for allegedly defiling and impregnating a 13-year-old Primary Four pupil in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State.

Acting Chairman, Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Joan Osa Oviawe, disclosed this in a chat with newsmen in Benin City on Friday, noting that the board played active role in the arrest of the culprit.

According to her, “We took a course of action by visiting and ensuring that the case was transferred from the Akoko-Edo Area Division of the Nigeria Police Division to the State Criminal Investigation Department in the state capital, Benin City."

Dr. Osa Oviawe added that “with the collaborative efforts of the Child Protection Network (CPN), SUBEB was able to handover the child’s custody to the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development."

She assured that the case would be charged to court to ensure that justice is done.

Edo SUBEB has been at the forefront of the fight against child abuse and molestation, spearheading the arrest and prosecution of individuals that put children in the state’s public schools in harms way, especially as regards sexual abuse of minors.

The board has been working in tandem with the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in bringing succor to the affected children, ensuring their safety.

Useless press release. Instead of attacking the message, you are attacking the messenger.
Please Mr Okpere show the world the video of the Central Hospital. A huge structure was commissioned there sometime in 2015 by President Buhari that had been turned into a home by rats and rabbits. Three years after no equipment. Only building.

You are wrong man! He addressed the issue squarely in my own assessment. Just try and go through the press statement once again.

Obaseki]s administration is just one year plus mind you, and he has performed tremendously well within the short period in office.

Lets give it to Governor Obaseki!

Edo PDP That Ran Schools Aground Lacks Moral Rectitude To Pontificate On Education Reform - Obaseki's Aide

The Edo State government says members of the state's chapter of Peoples Democratic Party "lack the moral rectitude to pontificate on education reform" as "Edo PDP ran public schools in the state aground when the party was in power."

Special Adviser to the Governor of Edo State on Media and Communication Strategy, Crusoe Osagie, who was responding to what he described as "the lie by the Edo PDP," about the ongoing reform in the state's education sector, stressed that members of the opposition party neglected public schools when they held sway.

"For the umpteenth time, the Edo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that neglected the Edo State basic education sector lacks the moral rectitude to pontificate on education reform."

Osagie, added: "Edo people have not forgotten the images of the sorry state of public schools in Edo State, until the All Progressives Congress (APC) took the bull by the horns and replaced what was left of public schools with red roof buildings."

He further said that "Chris Nehikhare, spokesman for the Edo PDP acknowledged that the APC administration reconstructed some schools, but lied that only schools that are used as polling centers were reconstructed."

"Even if we want to accept his lies, how many public primary and secondary schools were reconstructed by the PDP-led administration? Count one, and we will count 100!", the governor's aide challenged Edo PDP.

He assured that "Holy Aruosa Primary school and other such schools will join the league of red roof buildings in the coming weeks."
