HealthBad Breath, Mouth Odour, Big Deal! by fredraf(op): 3:53pm On Mar 08, 2015
Many people (of all ages) have bad breath.
Sometimes it is only for a short period, and with
others it is persistent (always). It is estimated that
up to 50% of people have smelly mouth all the
time. You can develop halitosis even if you brush
and floss regularly – in fact, in most cases, bad
breath is caused by the gums and tongue – not
the teeth!
Bad breath is one thing that you might not notice
yourself, and no one finds it easy to tell you.
People will avoid you, and you can loose friends
easily. It is therefore important that you look out
for yourself every morning before you step out...
and yes, look out for your good friends too

What causes bad breath?
Bad breath can have several causes:
Most people's mouth do not smell fresh when
they wake up from bed. This is normal. If you
brush your teeth before going to bed, the early
morning smelly mouth will not be too bad, in fact
some people don't smell at all.
In most cases, bad breath is caused by bacteria
in the mouth breaking down bits of food.
Persistent bad breath is often a sign of gum
disease.
Eating strongly flavoured foods, such as onions
and garlic, can cause your breath to smell
unpleasant.
Smoking and drinking a lot of alcohol can also
causes bad breath.
Occasionally, bad breath is the result of an
infection or illness, or taking some kinds of
medication.

What can you do.
1. Good oral hygiene is usually enough to prevent
and treat bad breath. When you brush your teeth,
try to brush the back of your tongue, where it is
harder to reach.
2. Your dentist can advise you on how to improve
your oral health and can refer you for further
investigation if they think there may be another
cause for your bad breath.

How to find out if you have bad breath
1. Get a very good friend to be absolutely honest,
but do make sure they are a true friend.
2. A simple test you can do yourself is to lick the
inside of your wrist and wait for the saliva to dry.
If the area you licked smells unpleasant, it is likely
that your breath does too.

How to prevent bad breath
Steps you can take to prevent bad breath are all
outlined in your TOOTH CARE Page. If you still
have bad breath after ensuring that you are doing
your best with your teeth care, you definitely
want to speak to your dentist immediately,
because there could be an underlying problem
that needs immediate attention… So… call your dentist.

CelebritiesOscar Pistorius Refusing Prison Food. by fredraf(op): 11:37am On Mar 08, 2015
It is claimed that he has received death threats
from fellow inmates, who threatened to poison
his food.
Prisoners say that he only eats tinned
chakalaka, a spicy South African vegetable stew.
The Paralympic star, 28, is living in a solitary cell
in the prison’s hospital wing and stays away
from fellow inamtes, You magazine claims.
A prisoner told them: "He has no contact with
other inmates... there where people fight and
stab each other."
He was sentenced to five years in prison for
manslaughter following an incident on
Valentine's Day 2013, but is expected to serve
as little as ten months.
Pistorius’s lawyer Brian Webber claimed
however that Pistorius has told him nothing of
the alleged threats.
He said: "He has lost weight, there’s no question
about that, but he is in prison."
Pistorius went on trial on March 3 last year, in
Pretoria, South Africa.
He was initially charged with the murder of his
girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, but was convicted
of manslaughter.
During the 2012 Summer Olympics, Pistorius
became the first amputee runner to compete at
an Olympic Games, taking second place in the
400m race with a finishing time of 45.44
seconds.

SportsWelbeck: I've Improved Since I Left Manchester United by fredraf(op): 5:15pm On Mar 07, 2015
The 24-year-old has scored just seven goals in 27
appearances for the Gunners this season and has
regularly been shifted wide to accommodate
Olivier Giroud
Danny Welbeck insists he has improved as a
player since swapping Manchester United for
Arsenal in a £16 million deal last summer.
The 24-year-old left Old Trafford in a bid to find
more regular opportunities as a central striker,
but has often played second fiddle to Olivier
Giroud in north London this season, scoring just
seven goals in 27 appearances in all competitions.
But Welbeck insists he is happy to play wherever
Arsene Wenger puts him and says he is happy
with the progress he has made at Arsenal.
“I think it’s gone okay," he told reporters. "I wish
to do a lot more, definitely will do and it’s
something I want to build on and keep
progressing.
“But I feel like I’ve improved. It’s different going
from one team to another, settling in and once
you get past that stage you want to keep pushing
on and get a second to none understanding with
team mates on the pitch. Once you build that
relationship on the pitch, things will only get
better.
“There’s so many good players at Arsenal.
Obviously training every single day, you get to
know them better. You get to know what they like
to do, what side they like to go on, where to play
passes through and so on.
“I play football, I can play across the front three
positions, depending on who is available, what
formation, coming up against different
opponents. The manager is going to select who he
thinks is best for the game.
“The last few weeks we’ve not spoken about
different positions. Once I get out onto the pitch I
will just give it 100 per cent."
Welbeck played just four minutes as a substitute
in Premier League victories over Everton and QPR
this week but Wenger is adamant the England
international remains an important part of his
plans.
“He’s very important and has played many, many
games since the start of the season," the
Frenchman insisted on Friday. "I think he’s played
in nearly every single game. His position is one of
the three up front, central, left of right. He can
play anywhere.
“If you check the statistics, you will see he is one
of the players who has played the most games for
us - just not in the last couple of games.
"You can make an individual debate on every
single player, that is always a possibility, but what
is important is that you have moments in the
season where some players play a bit less. Most
of the time it’s up front, because not every single
player can play every game in the biggest part of
the season.
“You have a player like Olivier Giroud, who is
playing at the moment but he missed four
months [of the season through injury]. During
that period, Welbeck played every single game.”
