A Lagos-based legal practitioner, Mr. Liborous Oshomah, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to investigate those responsible for the ongoing budget switch in the National Assembly. Speaking to The Guardian yesterday in Lagos, Oshomah stated that the budget switch has become a national embarrassment, saying that the matter should not be swept under the carpet by the Presidency. On reason while the budget crisis should be investigated, Oshomah said: “If a document as important as the budget was altered and there is no proper and current investigation as what transpired and people brought to book, it really means that we are not serious with fighting corruption; it means we are just mounting anti-corruption and window dressing anti-corruption fight, because this is a part of corruption of need that encourages corruption of greed. If you do this and go free because you are in government, tomorrow you will do a bigger one, thinking you will still go free. “I think it should be properly and thoroughly investigated, irrespective of who is involved. We are talking of a forged document; it is like somebody forging, or altering a letter sent by the President to the National Assembly without the consent of the President. Except the President is aware of all of these and decided to do things through the back door; that is when they can sweep the matter under the carpet.” Oshomah stated that the budget switch might have been a result of the less effort put in the preparation of the 2016 budget. http://www.Gallantsms.com Send Sms for #1.30 across all networks. It has been learned that an official order from the Federal High Court in Abuja has been issued for the arrest of Mr. Government ‘Tompolo” Ekpemupolo in connection to a multi-billion naira fraud involving land contracts for the construction of a Nigerian Maritime University (NMU). It will be recalled that SaharaReporters reported on December 10th, 2015 that Tompolo was wanted for questioning by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and had refused to honor their invitation claiming he was in court against the anti-corruption agency. Tompolo, a former Niger Delta militant, had bank accounts belonging to him frozen by the EFCC. According to reports at the time, two companies linked to Tompolo, Mieka Divers Ltd and Global West Vessel Specialists Nigeria Ltd, had their accounts frozen by the EFCC because of their use in fraudulent exchanges. Specifically, the EFCC wishes to question Tompolo about the illicit sale of N13 billion in land from him to the Federal Government. According to reports, the Federal Government wanted to construct the Nigerian Maritime University (NMU) and had diverted public funds through the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) to the militant. Mr. Tompolo is reportedly hiding in the Niger Delta creeks; he rejects any insinuation that the land deal was fraudulent asking EFCC to contact former President Goodluck Jonathan for clarification.
