DeLaRue:
Hmm...it's a little complicated.

Even after her brother offered to put in N3.5m, your wife could have told him, that's very nice of you. I will discuss it with my husband and get back to you since he's the one providing the N1.5m balance.

It's just a respect thing.

But that didn't happen so the next best thing is for your wife to ask his brother to call you and discuss the purchase.

Again, that'll be a subtle way for your wife to send a message to her brother that her husband's participation in the decision to buy the car is necessary.

You calling your brother in law is not the right thing to do.

Tell your wife to ask his brother to call you.

If he calls, thank and appreciate him, and inform him you will give your wife the N1.5m to add to the purchase price.

If he refuses to call, then clearly your wife should not continue with the purchase.

You need to assert authority in a sensible, and considerate manner.

You sound like a gentleman and I appreciate you want the best for your wife. But certain things must be done.

DO NOT CALL THE GUY. YOU WILL LOSE RESPECT.

Thank you.
My thought exactly.

To what end would you want your contribution to the purchase of the car noted?
Do you anticipate issues in the future that would warrant a refund to you or that you won't be given credit for the car eventually?
Is this ego induced?
My take is you want her to get a car, then go ahead. Whoever contributes doesn't matter to me, cos the whole point is that it is your wife's car. Or we go back to the questions.

Well, this is it, the car i bought that was sold was for me, the 1.5 i got after selling is still for me to save more to buy a car for me(not for my wife), even dou I'm still gon tag it family car, we both using it.

Now if i drop the money. How long before i save again to actually get a car of my own, considering there are other responsibilities, also the he brother will think he got his sister the car, making him have some kinda say on how the car is used... You know humans can be funny.. I know my wife to some extent but the boy is just my in law, I don't know what he's capable of.

Simple phone call... " ring ring... Ah my inlaw, happy new year, how family? My wife told me that you want to give her a surprise gift for the new year... that if I bring the 1.5m I got from the sale of that mumu car I bought last time, you will top it up and get her something more reliable... thank you o, may God bless you real good. Do I give her to send to you or should I just forward it myself like this? ... ok, will do. Thanks so much! Bye! "
Shikenan, story don finish and your family will be blessed with a good car in no time. A good wife from a generous family is a blessing to you and not a threat. You are not competing with anyone.

Thank you.

You said your wife told the brother she has 1.5m, that is where the issue is. The right thing for her to say is that we have 1.5m (you and her) from the sale of our car. By so doing, the brother will know you have contributed to the purchase of the car.

So, you don't really have to interface with the guy. Just tell your wife to clarify the issue with her brother.

That was my question when she told me. I asked where she got the 1.5m she told her brother she had and she said she's talking about my 1.5.

Well, i can boldly say, none of what's in your first paragraph is the case. The boy is comfortable to some extent and i believe i know my wife to some extent.

My only worry is your last paragraph.

My wife loves the comfort that comes with a car(i mean, who wouldn't) , she talks about it everytime. Last year, i made some savings and decided to get a car buh unfortunately, with the help of a trusted mechanic, i made a bad buy which i sold at a loss shortly after i bought it.

This morning , my wife told me her younger brother wants to get her a car and she told him she has 1.5 million naira ready (she was asked dou). The guy promised to get the car for her this weekend as long as the 1.5 million is readily available.

Now my issue is, this 1.5 million she told her brother she has is the money i got from the sale of my bad purchased car. The boy did not know the source of the money and probably think his sister actually have 1.5m to add to what he has to get the car.

I really do not know what to do rn cos i know getting the car will make her very happy and i do not want to hinder that, but I'm not really comfortable with the whole arrangement. I really don't know what to do.

The car he wants to get, according to my wife is valued at 5m.

Good morning Mr gazzuz, i recently bought a naija used Hyundai Sonata 2010, the car stops while on motion after driving a few distance, brings out smoke from the oil tank in the bonnet.. When the bonnets opened, a mixture of water and oil is also noticed on the bonnet body.

My engineer is saying he needs to ring the engine.

Kindly advice

Am glad to be here.
I use a sonata Hyundai 2008. NF. Limited. 2.4.
Being using it for a little above 2 years now.
I have being using Total Quartz 5000. 20W-50. I hope it's ok. If not which one?

The car has being serving.
I wanted to change the back coil spring. The inability of the 19 bolts to put out easily, I had to change the sprinkle, back chamber and fix broken nuts in the process of removing. I wonder why the nuts and bolts became so hard that the panel had to put fire on them.

Hello sir, can you please recommend a good Hyundai mechanic that handles your car .. I'm in Lagos

That's the best advice I can give. But look for a technician for second opinion. But those Kia engines eennnhhh, I reserve my judgement.

Please don't reserve your comment o, tell me abeg.

When you say it smokes from within the bonnet, I assume it's oil leaks from the valve cover thats dropping on the hot exhaust. If that's the case, a valve cover seal and generous silicone should do the trick.
For the coolant leakage, your mechanic needs to identify where it's leaking from.
As long as the engine never die (at least not yet) you can fix those leaks without issues.

My engineer says he'll have to ring the engine, that it will be okay after that.

Please do i need start looking for ways to buy new engine or what... I need help please.

The car is Hyundai Sonata 2010.

Good morning all, i just bought a Hyundai Sonata 2010 with a very bad engine with the help of a mischievous mechanic i thought i could trust. I've tried to return the car but to no avail. Now it seems the only option i have now is to fix the car.

The engine smokes from inside the bonnet and also leaks oil and water together (all dese we didn't see when we checked the car)

Can anyone recommend a sound Hyundai engineer or tell me the best advice on what to do. Thank you

Properties / My Landlord Wants Me To Move Out Before My Tenancy Agreement Expires. by Freethought(m): 3:55pm On Apr 25, 2023
I came here about a month ago to complain about the excessive nepa bill my landlord wanted me to pay, after much deliberation, he paid part of the bill and we settled the outstanding debt.

The pumping machine for the house is on his meter, now that we will not be paying him nepa bill again, he asking for 1k per month from each tenant for pumping of water once a week.

I questioned how we will be paying 2k monthly and get water only once a week ( we are 2 using one small tank, we both are married).

Now he said i should move out if i cannot pay effectively from this month end, that he'll return my balance since my rent expires by June.

The thing here is, i can move out by the expiration of my current rent which is June buh i can't move now, too early to start looking for apartment.

I have never argued with the since since i entered the house until the issue of the outstanding bill. I really don't know what to do now.

Dear Nairalanders,
I’m in a dilemma and need your advice
There’s this friend of mine who out of the blue contacted me last year October asking for a favor to come stay at my place a couple of days since she had an interview in Abuja. I allowed in her without hesitation since I thought it was just going to be a few days. Fortunately, she got the job.

When she got the job in October, she asked me to pls allow her stay for two months before getting her place. My people, it’s been five months already and she’s still not making any moves to get her own place.

The problem really is I am currently jobless. She doesn’t contribute anything to the house. I am responsible for our feeding, gas, electricity, everything! And I do not have money. The little money I have is from my generous elder sister who has been my helper since I lost my job. Weekends she sleeps all through while I clean the house. I also do all the cooking. She doesn’t cook.

I am a light sleeper so I get up at any slight movement. This lady gets up between 3 to 4 times every night to use the restroom thus keeping me awake all through the night. This really has a toll on me. During the day she goes to the restroom between 14 to 16 times. She doesn’t contribute to buy foodstuff but she eats 4 times a day

What have I gotten myself into. Please how do I politely ask her to leave without hurting her feelings and savaging the relationship I use to have with her. I am tired, depressed and jobless!

The fact that she knows you are jobless and still stay comfortably in that house eating your food shows how wicked she is... You don't worry about ppl like that's feelings. Just tell her to leave that you are tired

Properties / Prepaid Meter: How Do I Handle This With My Landlord? by Freethought(m): 6:38am On Feb 13, 2023
I have been on the same prepaid meter with my landlord since i came to this house 2 years ago, he charge 5k monthly for electricity and I've paid deligently for the past two years.

Last week Saturday he brought an electrician to the house to install the prepaid meter he got for both of us (me and the other tenant). We were not informed about this step until that saturday they brought the meter.

Long story short, we discovered there's a debt of 53k on the meter (estimated bill since he registered for the new meter)

Now, he's asking us to pay the bill ourselves since he collected the meter for us. Mind you, he never for once stopped collecting the 5k.

I want to believe one or two nairalanders have been through something similar to this, that's why I'm here to seek help on how to go about it.

rexandyke:
OP, my reply will be long, very long and this is because of the fire that burns in my heart whenever I see such posts.

I have seen 4 of my cousins die of SS and one is still living with it. We know he will die, but not sure when it will be. The pain the family suffered taking care of them and seeing them die after they have lived so long is unbearable.

Two died when they finished secondary school (19 and 20 years respectively). One of them died after she completed her master's program at the university while the last one was after graduating from the university and waiting for NYSC.

I happened to be close to most of them and the pain you could see from their eyes knowing they will die anytime soon. I was pained too because I couldn't stand losing them to SS.

I have been advocating for couples who are AS or SS NOT TO EVER MARRY EACH OTHER.

The pain that will result in the nearest future could be reverted by finding another soul partner. There are millions of other men and women you can link up with and get married to.

Some people are advising you to marry and then use medical interventions to prevent having SS kids. The idea is nice, but I don't advise that, sincerely. This is an avoidable havoc man! The cost of such medical interventions is always high and the money can be used to venture into some kind of business.

Why waste that money when it can be prevented? Also, it is not 100% guaranteed as you can do everything and still give birth to SS. We have seen it happen, not once or twice.

The stress and pain of taking an SS patient to the hospital during their crisis and having their blood changed aren't what you will ever want to experience. I don't even pray for my enemy to have that kind of stuff happen to them.

I beg you in the name of God in heaven or in the name of anything you believe in. Please! This comment is from a passionate heart that doesn't want to see another family suffer from this pain.

Have a great day!

Thank you sir.. I appreciate
