Lagos government announces fresh route ban, restrictions against Okada, Keke Marwa

Some commuters who were stranded on the Badagry-Lagos Expressway following the ban of motorcycles and tricycles on the highways, on Tuesday, called on the Lagos State Government to extend its palliative measures to residents who lived in the area.

A massive riot has erupted in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria following the ban on okadas and tricycles from plying certain routes in the metropolis by the Lagos State Government.

The protest has led to a clash between the police and okada riders in Ijora area of the state as the police tried to stop the protesters.

The protesters, in their large number blocked the expressway and burnt tyres on the road. The police, in a bid to stop the protest led to the riot.

The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has said it is not under the jurisdiction of the federal government to tell state governments what to do as implementation of transport policy is essentially to a state affair.

Nigerian Jollof Rice: Many Nigerian homes will not be able to cook it for Christmas as rice, ingredient prices shoot up

Many Nigerian homes may have to do without their favourite jollof rice delicacy this Christmas.

Jollof, a mixture of rice, tomatoes and spices, is practically a dish loved by Nigerians and is particularly coveted by the poor at Christmas and other festive periods, when increased demand for its ingredients contributes to seasonal price rises.

The cost of imported rice, the main ingredient in Jollof, has already almost doubled since the Buhari administration shut Nigeria’s borders with neighbouring Benin and Niger in August in a bid to curtail smuggling. Domestically produced grain prices are now up by 70%, said a report by Bloomberg reporters in Nigeria.

“I cannot afford to cook rice for my family this season,” said Olatunbosun Bosede, a 30-year-old mother of three who sells candy and groundnuts on the streets of Ado Ekiti for a living.

Angry youths have burnt down a church in Akure, the Ondo State capital after the corpse of a 12 months old boy was allegedly exhumed from the premises.

The one-year-old boy, Gold Kolawole, was declared missing on November 10, during church service at the children’s section of Sotitobire Praying Ministry in the Ondo State capital.

The situation turned violent after news filtered that the corpse of the missing one-year-old was found inside the church premises.

An eyewitness told Channels Television that rumours had filtered onto the streets that the body of the missing boy had been exhumed from the church premises which triggered the attack.

Kolawole’s mother, Modupe raised an alarm after he went missing during a church service in November.
